((sorry i had to start again my computer froze! :@))

Blindness isn't a disability, it's a curse.
Thats what Mai used to think every second of ever day, then she met Rin. And now she has bigger things too worry about.

Walking along the dusty road in the afternoon light of Hinamizawa, Mai Swung her stick to and fro and like all days, listened, and felt where she was going. Rin was walking beide her, along with Sunny. She had, once again gotten up way too late, the nightmares just wouldn't let her sleep anymore. So once again she had had to call Rin and ask her to walk her to school in her lunchtime. Mai absoulutly hated not being able to walk too school alone, not being able to do anything alone. She sighed, and tried to begain a hasty convosation to break the awkward silece growing between the three of them.

"So, did anything happen this morning?" She muttred. Rin shared a woried look with Sunny, being very careful not to make any sound. She knew that Mai could get really angry or upset when she thought somthing was happening around her, and depressed when somthing might be happening without her. Rin was the only person who really knnew that Mai had hated most of her life since the moment she woke up on that day on Wantanagashi.

Mai sighed at the reply. She would find out, "its hard to hide somthing from somone who can hear you from a mile away" she thought.
Her father had hit her again that morning, called her names, refused to help her cook breakfast. All Mai knew was that one day she would get revenge. One day. And with a terrible smirk on her pale face, and her cloudy eyes lost in an evil dream, she arrived at school.

Sunny walked down that dusty road with Mai. When Rin mentioned it to her, she couldn't exactly refuse. She was the kind of person that had to help, and she had to help her friend out. Mai had asked a question that worried Sunny deeply. After a few minutes of silence, Sunny finally spoke in a low, deep voice. “Miu-nyan has been troubled.” Sunny said. That's all she had said to Mai, since she didn't exactly want to explain what Sunny and Rin had been up to earlier.

Once they reached to school, Sunny helped her handicapped friend into her seat at the table and sat down in hers.

Miu laid in that dark informatory. Bandages on her wrists, shoulder, neck, and head. She looked over at Suzuki, who had came in. “Hey, Suzuki-kun.” Miu said, weakly.

Suzuki took hold of Miu's hand. “I won't let anything happen to you, Miu.” Suzuki said, serious. “We're friends. I won't let anything happen to any of you that sit at that table.”

Miu smiled weakly. “Thank you, Suzuki-kun.” She said. Her smiled faded as she fell unconscious again. Suzuki looked at her, worried, but he sighed and exited the room, walking back to the classroom, he silently took his seat. “Morning Mai.” He said, quietly to his friend.

Mai walked cautiously into the classroom, and was guided to her seat by Sunny. She hated that, being 'guided' places. She sighed, and swollowed. School was when Mai could be happy, was treated like a real person. So in school, she decided, she would be happy. She sighed, shoving all the un-happieness out of her head, and smiled. "morning Mai" She heard a voice say quietly, she knew the voice, it was a good friend of hers, Suzuki. She grinned, " Good morning Suzuki!".

Somthing about his tone worried her though, he seemed, upset. And there was Sunnys dark answer before on the dusty road to school. Even the cheerful, happy Rin seemed a bit... off today. She listened around the table... listened for the voices of the friends she knew so well... She heard Sunny...Rin...Suzuki..Matsu(which was odd, Mai thought, because Matsu usually sat on the next table)Alex.. Cho.. Kou.. and a new girl Mai didn't know. It didn't tke her long to realise somebody was missing.

Every voice in the class was hushed, and quiet, like somthing terrible had just happened. Mai started to get parranoid, a thousand questions started running through her fair head, " Why is everybody being quiet and hushed?", "Why did Sunny give me that dark answer?" and, "Where is Miu?" She sighed... ' There go's my cheerful mood!' she thought.

Then she tured to Sunny and Rin (or at least she hoped) and said in a tone to match Sunny's earlier dark one, "What happened this morning? Tell me now, because you know I'll find out. And where has Miu gone?".

Sunny simply looked down when Mai looked at her. She didn't like explaining these sort of things. "I.." She started, but Suzuki had his hand on Mai's shoulder, saying that he had it. Sunny nodded and watched as Suzuki raised his hand.

The teacher turned around and looked at Suzuki. "Yes?"

"Mai says that she feels a little dizzy. She needs my assistance to go to the nurse." Suzuki said.

"Alright. Go ahead." The teacher said. Suzuki nodded and helped Mai out of her chair and outside of the classroom. Once they were outside, he began to speak.
"Miu saw a purple butterfly. You know how she's so superstitious about everything, so she thought it meant death. She told us that one of us are going to die, and the other two are going to go missing. She threw a fit, and started to throw things around, and, a light fell down on her. The pieces of glass ended up cutting her and she's lost so much blood that she's falling in and out of consciousness.." Suzuki explained. "But, she doesn't have a family to go home to.." He opened the door to the infirmary, letting Mai enter first. Miu groaned a little, and moved. She was sleeping this time, not unconscious, but she could fall unconscious at any time.

Mai jumped when she felt a hand on her shoulder, and then Suzuki's voice asking the teacher for the two of them to be exused. As he lead her out of the room, Mai could feel the tension rising, and the prickle on her skin that always meant someone was watching her. As they stood outside the class, Suzuki explained what happened to Miu. Mai was shocked, and although she felt all that depresion creeping back to her again, she pushed it away, or at least for now, for the sake of her friend. As Suzuki retold the story, Mai listened, and put her hand to her mouth, with barely a word to say.
"Oh no, Poor Miu..." Was all she managed.

Suzuki lead Mai to the infermary, where Miu was lying in bed. Mai had no trouble finding her, and they made their way over to the bed. Mui's breathing was rugged, and she was struggleing... but she was conscious...' there was that at least'... Mai thought. Mai sat down next to Miu and found her hand, it was cold, too cold she found, as she held it and squeezed it.

"Oh Miu, what have you gone and done now?" Mai said, smiling through her dry humor.
"You know, anything that follows that butterfly and that storm... anything that means death, Miu, is pretty stupid. For one, nothing will kill you. And two, do you even think they'd stand a chance getting to you?, through all your wonderful, crazy friends?" She squeezed her hand again. Then frowned,
"But Miu, you've lost so much blood... you need somebody to look after you..." then, without any warning an idea came into Mai's head.
"You know... My father is a scrict man, but next to my room, in my house, there is a spare room... a bedroom, that is completly unused. I could look after you . If I tell my father I will denonce the family name if not... you see, I'm the last heir... he would allow it."

Mai thought she heard Miu move, and she smiled.
"You don't have to be alone, Miu. Let your friends look after you. Even if they can't see you" She said.
Mai thought, after she stopped talking, being ther for Miu while she struggled through a dream:
'Father will let me. He really wants the Kimiyoshi name too live on... one of the three great families of Hinamizawa... and so help me, I can't see, but I can make a differance. If father won't let me look after my friend, then I won't be 'Mai Kimiyoshi' anymore.'
She smiled.

Miu felt somebody take her hand. Despite this, she didn't open her eyes. She was too scared of what she would see. Miu listened to the soothing voice that belonged to Mai. She struggled a smile of some sorts, at Mai's 'joke'. “I'm surprised nobody has hit me yet..” Miu replied. Miu tried her best to sit up, but winced at the pain, falling back down again in the bed. “It's n-not.. s-stupid..” She choked out. “It's been happening for years now. No matter how many friends the person has, no matter how wonderful or crazy they're friends are, a person dies. And somebody's going to die in two weeks.. So yes, I think they do have a chance at getting to me. However, in this world, I have no regrets, so the only problem I have is the dieing part...”

Miu really didn't want to leave. She wanted to stay with her friends, and be happy for the rest of her life, until she died of old age.. Isn't that how things were supposed to be? Wasn't that the promise they had made to each other?

Miu began to cry at the thought, silently though, Mai probably couldn't hear. As Mai tightened the grip around they're linked hands, Miu looked down at them and smiled, closing her eyes once again as another wave of pain surged through her. She listened to Mai's words and more tears fell down her cheeks. Mai was blind.. Miu should be the one looking after her, but despite her disability, Mai still offered to help her out at this time. Mai was truly an incredible girl. It was then and only then did Miu realize what wonderful friends she had. Friends to joke around with, and friends to put up with her, even when she did get crazy, friends that loved her no matter what, and friends that would look after her... Friends that were family. Miu sniffled. “Thank you...” Miu said, her voice breaking. She'd never had anybody be so kind to her, not even her family. She didn't know what to do in this situation, so she just cried.

Rin was scared to tell her blind friend what happened, so down the dusty road, she let Sunny answer. Rin walked silently until they got to the school. Then, she looked around for her younger sister. She was still silent, but she had to make an effort for Mai, it wasn't fair if her one bestest friend was kept in the dark.

*Short, but I gotta figure out a way to get Kona there XD*

"It's okay, Miu." Mai replied, hearing her friend sob softly.
"None of us will let anything happen to you."
"Anyway," Mai said, trying to cheer her friend up, " What I said before, it wasn't a request, I'm going to look after you. No matter what my father says."
Miu was still sobbing, so Mai just took her cold hand and stayed with her freind.

Time passed, and if Mai could of seen the clock next to her, she would of known that she had been there for a whole two hours, but of couse she couldn't. When she knew that it was nearly time for the school day to end, she picked up her stick and stood, then started walking aroung the walls of the room. It didn't take her long to find what she needed, so she carefully took it back to Miu.

Somone walked in then, it was Suzuki, who had been checking on the pair of them through the last two hours. Mai gulped, knowing what Suzuki's reaction would be for what she was trying to do, but she also knew what a good friend Suzuki was, she knew he would help her.

"Erm.. Suzuki... Can you help me get Miu into this wheelchair please? I'm going to look after her. Please help me..." She said to Suzuki.

Two hours had passed.

Suzuki walked down the long hall to go check on Mai and Miu. He had been asking to go to the bathroom for a while to check up on the two. Once he got into the nurse's office, he found an unconscious Miu, and Mai trying to help her. “Mai?” He called her name, as if questioning what she was doing. As Mai explained, he swallowed nodding. He walked to the side of Miu's bed, carefully picking up the brunette, as if she would break at any second.. And she really did look like she would.

Miu moaned softly, regaining her consciousness again. She could feel that she was being put in a chair, and slowly, she opened her baby blue eyes. She looked around at her friends. “H-How'd I get here?” She asked, weakly, holding her head.

Suzuki looked at Mai. “Are you sure you want to take care of her?” Suzuki asked, quietly.

Mai was releived when Suzuki helped her, Now she had her friend's support there was only one more obstical to dodge.. Her dad. Hearing Miu's frail voice make her even more sure of herself, She was absolutley going to help Miu get better.

"Of course I want too, Suzuki... She has no family, and I have the space. I'm blind, but I want to look after my friend, and I can, I'm sure of it." She replied, not completly sure of herself.

They walked (and wheeled) back too class, where Mai took a deep breath, felt her way over to Rin and Sunny, and explained. She hoped they would be just as understanding as Suzuki.
"I'm taking Miu home with me. You know the state she's in, she needs somone to look after her, she has no family. I'm going to look after her, please understand, and help me?"

"It's like de ja vu... how many more times do I have to do this so I can look after my friend?" Mai thought
