I've decided to begin the roleplay just to get things going :)

It was a fairly sunny morning at a quarter to 11:00 AM, and King's Cross Station was packed as always. Not just with the usual morning crowd of muggles coming to and fro on their way about the city of London, but various strange folk as well. Men and women dressed in unusual clothing which could only be described as robes one would see during Halloween or some such day. It was not only their attire which seemed odd, but the luggage they carried was rather strange as well. Most had various trunks and luggage, and quite a few had the peculiar addition of an owl or cat atop their trolly. Needless to say, these strange folk recieved quite a few peculiar glances from people passing by.

But this was nothing unusual in the eyes of Roselyn Cortez. In fact, she was quite used to it. But then, being a witch, it was not an odd scene to come by in her own line of work. She herself was dressed in velvet robes the color of royal blue, her wand tucked safely in her belt. Her dark hair was pulled back halfway, with a few locks interwoven into tight braids and tied with beaded bands. A few loose strands hung low in her face, and her hazel eyes looked around cautiously as she stood before the column which divided Platforms 9 and 10. By her side stood a young girl, no older than 11 or so. Her dark hair was pulled back into a ponytail, with a few bangs pushed to the side. She was dressed in simple jeans and a button-up t-shirt. Her own hazel eyes darted around anxiously.

Roselyn glanced down at the young girl, and gave her a reassuring smile, "Relax, Evie. You'll do fine."

Evelyn said nothing in reply, but secretly hoped that Roselyn was right. The two looked so similar in appearance, one might mistakes them for mother and daughter. Of course, this was not true. In fact, Evelyn was Roselyn's neice. Roselyn looked down at Evie's hands, which were gripped rather tightly to her luggage cart. She could see the girl was nervous, to say the least. But after all, this was her first year away from home. The small tawny owl whose cage was perched atop her luggage gave a small chirp of excitement.

Roselyn looked about, "Where on Earth is your sister? We need to get onto the Platform while no one's looking!"

"I'm right here, Rose," said a rather annoyed voice. Both Roselyn and Evelyn looked behind them to see another young girl approaching them. She stood fairly tall, looking roughly 15 or so. Her dark hair and hazel eyes revealed that she herself was related to them. Dressed in faded jeans and a tank-top with a plaid unbuttoned shirt over it, her expression was a mixture of boredom and relief. Pushing her cart forward, she passed both her Aunt and sister and disappeared through the brick column without saying another word.

Roselyn sighed heavily. Lenora was always this way, but it ceased to surprise her years ago. Catching Evelyn's confused look, she gently directed the child further.

"Now, just keep a steady pace through the brick wall, just like Lenora," she said calmly.

Evie glanced back at her Aunt with a hint of doubt in her eyes, but Roselyn just gave her that same reassuring smile. Taking a deep breath, Evelyn followed in her older sister's footsteps and passed through the column onto the Platform of 9 and 3/4. It was considerably louder and more bustling than the Platform she just passed from. But then again, school was about to start. From where she was standing, Evelyn caught glance of the beautiful scarlet steam engine locomotive, with various students saying their goodbyes and boarding.

"Evie!" she heard her sister's voice above the masses. She watched as Lenora came closer, apparently having sent her luggage to be loaded aboard the train. In her arms she carried Archimedes, or "Archie", her black cat. "Come along, don't stand too close to the entrance. You'll get run over!"

Hastily distancing herself from the entrance way, she watched as Roselyn stepped through the barrier and approached both her and Lenora.

"Now then," her aunt said with a smile. "Are you ready Evie?"

The young girl gave a rather timid nod, reflecting her own insecurity in the matter. Lenora rolled her eyes, "You'll be fine, sis. I'll be there with you."

Roselyn cupped Evie's chin gently, forcing the child to look up at her. Her aunt kept her smile, "Your sister is right. You'll do just fine. Just remember what we talked about- Keep out of trouble, do your schoolwork, and keep in touch!"

Evelyn gave a small smile before hugging her Aunt.

"I'll miss you," she managed to say finally.

Her Aunt's face lit up, "I'll miss you, too. Both of you!"

"Right, well, let's be off," Lenora said hastily, deciding not to bother with the sappy, long goodbyes. It's not like they would never see each other again, honestly! It was just bloody school! Taking her little sister's hand in her own, she pulled her away from her Aunt without even a second glance, heading straight for the train.

Roselyn watched as the two left. Evie managed to look back and give a small wave. She smiled and returned the gesture, and blew a kiss to her. When the two girls were out of sight and on the train, Roselyn made sure that Evie's luggage and owl were loaded before she stood near the wall, waiting for the train to depart. It seemed like only yesterday that her own older sister was holding her hand as she boarded the Hogwarts Express for the first time. So much had changed since then...

She couldn't really blame Lenora for being so distant. The girl lost her own mother after all. But it frustrated Roselyn that she could never seem to get through to the girl that she was there for them! She sighed heavily to herself. These were troubled times though. As an Auror, she herself was no stranger to the dangers of the war brewing beyond Hogwarts' borders. She only hoped her own nieces would never come to know the experience of war first hand. But then, was there really any way to avoid it?

*************

Lenora managed to find an empty compartment near the back of the last Coach, which suited her perfectly fine. She no longer held onto Evie's hand, but she kept her close. She was protective of her baby sister by nature. She carried a suitcase, holding both her and Evie's robes to change into once they come closer to Hogwarts.

"Len...you could have at least said bye to Aunt Rose," Evie spoke up softly, taking a seat near the window. Lenora said nothing, instead taking a seat opposite of her.

"Len," her baby sister continued. "You could at least be a little nicer to her. After all, she really does care about us."

"Look, Evie," Lenora said irritably, "It's just school...it's not like we'll never see her again! Don't make such a big deal about it!"

Evelyn did not persist, but instead heaved a resigned sigh while looking out past the window. She knew Lenora had a hard time with accepting their mother's death. And even harder accepting Roselyn as their caretaker. She never truly understood why her older sister was such a handful for their aunt, but knew it was better to let her temper simmer down. Besides, she herself had more important things on her mind. Like what House she would be sorted into, if she'd make any friends. She didn't have the confidence that Lenora seemed to have possessed. But hopefully, things would turn out for the best.

To most people, cyrus hawkins was a cold, grim man-and they'd be right for the most part, he was'nt one for games or needless stupidity. However, since this would be the last totally free day he'd have for a while, he decided to indulge himself in a hobby of sorts. He offhandedly cast a muffling charm at his office door, and leapt over his desk to grab a very unique & fun gift he'd gotton in the states after helping squash a rather messy demonic cult. It was a magically modified guitar, neither electric nor acoustic and able to do things no guitar should be able to do. His dour face split into a wicked grin as he began to play an old favorite of his-the guitar allowing his limited ability in duplicating other instument noises as he began.

I see the bad moon arising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightnin.
I see bad times today.

Chorus:
Dont go around tonight,
Well, its bound to take your life,
Theres a bad moon on the rise.

I hear hurricanes ablowing.
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

Chorus
All right!

Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like were in for nasty weather.
One eye is taken for an eye.

He came to the end, smiling-it was a favorite of his and painfully appropriate considering the recent events with the rise of the possibly insane dark dark voldemort & his death eaters boasting of pureblood supremacy. He set the instument down, and began preparing for the welcoming feast.

Lily Evans had made her way to Kings Cross station on her own, possibly annoying her taxi driver with the screeching of her owl. She had tried to quieten up the gorgeous white and tan barn owl, Astartae, but to no prevail. But the red haired teenager couldn't help it if her owl didn't like enclosed spaces. The taxi driver couldn't do anything about it though, and was just muttering to himself about ' why parents taking their own darned kids. ' That was Lily's question too. Surely, her leaving to go to a magic school was more important that some stupid little thing that Petunia had to do. However, her parents, like always decided to listen to their fist born, and packed her off with out even so much as a hug goodbye.

Oh well, at least I'm free for another year.. Lily thought, as she dragged her trunk on to the metal cart and placed Star on top. She paid the over priced taxi guy and watched him screech off. Walking on to the platform, Lily looked at the barrier that divided platform's nine and ten. She wondered what the non wizarding community would say if they found out about the secret doorway, but she didn't dwell on the matter. She slipped through it unseen and smiled at the familiar steam train. This would be the start of her fifth year at Hogwarts, and she loved it. There was only one downfall in the entire school: James Potter. That guy was a pain in her backside, and just persisted to bully her friend Severus.

She pulled her luggage and her owl on to the train herself, not trusting any other person. When she had finally got it on, she made her way to an empty carriage, as she hadn't spotted Severus yet. When she had put her trunk above the seat and put Star next to her, Lily sat down with a small sigh. She felt truly at home when she was at Hogwarts, as she could be her witchy self. It wasn't the same when you had to hide who you are inside, keeping your magical abilities a secret. Dropping her head back on the chair, she let out a content sigh. All she needed now was her friend, and then she could be happy.

One could say it was a perk of having a professor and Head of House as a grandparent, and Theo was definately on that list. He sat in the schools library and flipped through an advanced Charms book, his grandmother had brought himself and his sibling early in the morning to the school for unknown reasons. It seemed there house was just too insecure for even her. He was always on the top of the list of students who were being watched for Honor's and such, and hoped that this year he would be chosen for Ravenclaw Prefecture this year. To be honest, it was like the light of his year if it did so happen. He broke his thoughts off as he slowly flipped off of the page he was on and onto another beside it. It was about a basic spell named Waddiwasi, which he had already learned quite easier before-hand, and simply shrugged his shoulders as he turned another page. "Hmm-hmm. I think I might know most of the spells in this book off by heart already.." he grumbles, blinking down at the books as he continues flipping the pages.

Wondering what his grandmother was actually doing bringing them to the school before it had even opened, but also not wanting to try and restrict her method's in the slightest was rather hard for him, so he simply shook the thoughts away from his mind and disappeared back into the reading of the book. He turned to the side and slowly drew his wand. As he slowly pointed his wand towards a small door leading to the next part of the library, he began to stand. As he did so, he turned his head back a bit and began to practice the movements of the spell on the pages, which was named the Imperturbable Charm, which placed an invisible barrier around an object. "Impertulous!!" He shouted, which formed a small blue aura around the area, but simply fizzled and disappeared. "Not back for a first try, I guess.." he sighed, before flicking his wand in a full circle once more and crying out the name again, causing an actual barrier to appear this time.

With a smirk and a gratified tilt of his head, Theo turned back and picked his book up off of his desk. He turned away towards the other doors leading out of the room and quickly walked out of them.

The faint sound of humming was audible down the seemingly abandonded fourth floor corridor. A rather tall, thin figure could be seen walking past the library. It was none other than Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, He wore a long velvet robe with a matching pointy hat the color of dark violet, with a golden sash wrapped around his waist. He had long silver hair and a long beard, his half-moon shaped glasses sat upon his crooked nose, which appeared to have been broken once or twice many years ago and never truly healed.

As he passed by the Library entrance, Dumbeldore thought he heard someone and so he took a quick glance to see Theodore Hatch, a 5th year Ravenclaw inside. The Headmaster wasn't surprised to see the young man before any of the students. He had grown accustomed to the Charms Professor Sophiana Hatch bringing her grandchildren herself at the start of the term.

Instead of interrupting the boy, the Headmaster continued in his little stroll through the Corridors, nodding to the moving figures of the Portraits politely as he passed, his hands clasped quietly behind his back. He found solace pacing through the hallways of Hogwarts, a small escape from the war outside its walls.

James rushed off towards platform 9 and 3/4. Like always, he was running behind. Hardly even stopping to make sure no one was watching, he rushed through the solid brick wall. Once on the other side, James sent off his luggage and Owl, and hurried onto the Hogwarts Express. Right infront of him he saw Severus Snape. He smirked. Looking around, he finally caught sight of his friends. He opened the carriage door and took a seat beside Sirius. Across from him sat Remus Lupin and Peter Petigrew. "Ready for another year mates?" James questioned. They all nodded and cheered. It was always great to be reunited on the train with his three best mates.

The threesome had become known at Hogwarts. Now, going into their fifth year, they were able to strut about the school like they owned it. Most of their favourite past times included picking on poor Severus. And this year likely wouldn't change.

"Seen Severus yet, James?" Asked Sirius.

"Yah, reckon he is going to sit with Lilly like always. He got on the train before me. Didn't speak with him though," James smiled at the thought of talking to Severus. Too bad he was always with Lilly. She was a pretty girl. She just doesn't know how to pick friends. Soon after James became settled, the train took off on its journey to another brilliant year at Hogwarts.

Severus Snape slipped through the passage onto the platform, his mother right behind him. For once, he didn't have his father around and it was nice. He thought he actually saw his mother smile, though her heavy eyebrows stayed straight, leaving her expression stoic as she sent him off. Wand, baggage, he was set. A short 'good-bye' and Snape hopped on the train, loathe to leave his mother behind with his father for another 10 months, but part of him thought that if she couldn't stand up and defend herself, then she may as well deserve the hell he put her through.

No, he wouldn't think about his family, not now. The school year had started-as far as he cared- and now was the time for study...and Lily. That lifted his spirits. Hopefully she wouldn't be surrounded by all her Gryffindor friends when he found her, and he got his wish. THe only thing beside her was her owl, as usual. He quickly slipped out of the way, half diving into the compartment, half pushed by someone with a 'watch it!'. He straightened himself and closed the door. He was used to it by now. He spared a smile for Lily, though.

"Hey, Lily..." he said quietly. He would have asked how her summer was, but with them living so close to each other, he basically knew already. He still wore that old, overly-large coat, though now it fit him much better despite being clunky. Faded shorts and worn out shoes completed his raggedy ensemble and he pushed a lock of his slightly greasy hair back behind his ear. He had actually remembered to shower in the last couple days.

"Hey, Severus."Lily said with a smile. She liked being friends with him, as he'd always listen to her if she needed it, and they would both help the other out if one was in trouble. Now, Lily was ecstatic. She had finally gotten Astartae off to sleep, and she sighed happily. That bird never did shut up, and liked to hoot all freakin' day and all freakin' night. However, when a loud cheering came from a nearby carriage and Star woke up, Lily frowned. Now the once quiet bird was hooting loudly, and she groaned. Standing up, she flung open the door of the carriage with a quick "I'll be back" to Severus, and walked to the carriage with the four boys in it. It didn't take a potions geek to know that they were the ones that made the noise. No-one would take the carriage, because they'd see Star and know that Lily was there.

Lily opened the door and glared at the five boys: Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and James Potter. She didn't understand why girls fell for Potter so easily, and why they worshipped the ground he walked on. Yes, he was on the Quidditch team. Yes, he was the typical 'bad boy'. Yes, he was good looking...wait...]I just thought that? She thought to herself before turning back to the boys. Mental lists can wait until alter. "Please can you shut up?" She asked, tilting her head to the side with an pretend innocent smile.

Cyrus walked through the nearly empty halls of hogwarts, heading to the libraries restriced section. He passed the headmaster on the way, nodding a respectfull greeting-he and dumbledore rarely saw eye-to-eye on how the war should be fought, but they had mutual respect since cyrus's hiring & initiation to the order was started after the powerfull old man had seen cyrus's response in an attack on diagon ally. Thanks to cyrus's actions, several death eaters would'nt be returning to thier lords side-or much else for that matter-and that was with his "borderline" curses-none illegal by ministry protocal but dangerous enough to be looked into. Soon enough he'd arrived outside the library..and was mildly suprised to find a young man already in it "Err..hello there, I take it your one of sophia's gradkids?..tim-no-theo,right?" He asked the last part, hoping he was'nt sounding too stupid. He gave what he hoped was a pleasant smile and held out a rough & slightly scarred hand with a slight grayish tinge "Proffessor cyrus hawkins, im the new dada teacher." He introduced himself-and hoped that his reputation did'nt precede him as his actions a few weeks ago in diagon had drawn a bit of attention, not all of it positive. He might be a skiiled user of the dark arts, but he did'nt want the kids or thier parents thinking that he was some kind of rouge maniac out for kicks.

As Theo's eyes drew themselves from the book he was still reading, even whist walking towards the doors to get a snack before breakfast, it was obvious that he knew who the Teacher was simply from his rather prestigious, and some would say extreme, way of fighting the Death Eaters which plagued the school from which almost all of the students felt a connection as-if it was their second home, one with just as much presence and significance as their first.

Their hands shook, and for a moment the teen felt a sort of electricity, similar to that which he had felt the very first time he had met his hero, his idol even, Albus Dumbledore, and when he realized just how famed his own Grandmother was. He smirked slightly, nodding his head eagerly, one of the only things he did with such energy or enthusiasm. "Cyrus Hawkins!" He beamed with added vim and vigor, as he cut off the man's sentence and actually introduced the new professor FOR him.

"So, your the newest Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, I don't doubt you will do a spectacular job in that spot. You seem to be a tad lost, is there anything I can help you with, sir?" Spoke Theo, as he blinked a few times, his teeth nibbling into his lower lip as he tries to resist the harsh yearning to read the rest of the tomb he had under his arm, a small sweat appearing upon his brow as he almost draws blood from his lips, his upper lip quivering.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sophia sat upon a lightly stitched effort of a chair behind a white-silken table topped with a small silvery vase which itself had inside it five large, red roses which were sprinkled with a light silvery material that twinkled like the stairs themselves. She sighed with contentment as she stood from her chair, a slow turn and a push of her right hand would replace the chair under the desk as she goes about a leisurely walk across the grounds. Starting outside the door to her office, she would turn and descend the three sets of stairs leading from the top of the Ravenclaw tower, also known as her own office, to the fifth floor of the school.

After this, she would re-route herself to descend the stairs from the fifth floor down to the fourth, where her eldest grandchild's favorite haunt just happened to be. She knew by now that he would be here, where as her other younger grandchild would most likely be eating or sleeping as per usual. Her footsteps ran quick as she spotted the unmistakable aire of authority, before she also spotted the cloak and lopped hat of a certain Headmaster of the school escaping from the room. She turned herself into a side passage which allowed her to hasten her journey, and just a moment later she would appear behind the man her grandson was currently shaking with. "Greetings, Professor Hawkins, I believe? And you've met my eldest grandson, Theodore" She spoke, to with the boy grumble and hissed a "Granma! Don't call me that! It's Theo". He may have been highly intelligent for even a Ravenclaw, but he was a teen.

Cyrus was a bit taken back at the young mans entusiasim, it was alot like him when he was younger and more naive about things. "Not at all, just taking a look at the famed hogwarts library.." He trailed off for a moment "I've been all around the world and seen-and done a great deal, so naturally i'd want to see whats seen by some,at least, as one of the largest & best kept public libraries in europe." He took a few steps, heading towards the restricted section when he heard a soft, female voice behind him. He turned slightly, and blinked at his colleauge a few times while she talked to her grandson "Hello madame hatch, how are you doing?" He said, smiling.

"Well! I do say~" Started the older lady, bowing her head to the elder of the two males as a smile appeared on her face, which some might have said for her age would be downright ravishing. She leaned backwards, her head righting itself as she took his hand and gently shook it. After this, she finished her sentence with "- It's just spectacular to have such a handsome man on the staff. It's quite true that we truly need some young blood in our ranks. I mean, Albus and I aren't going to be here forever, as much as you'd love that!~" She joked in the end, a smile appearing and show her pearly white teeth.

------------------------

Theo sighed as he watched his grandmother act more like she was his age then one who was almost a century old. He grumbled to himself lightly, his head whirling a little as he thought of things that would cause him less pain; like being kicked in the crotch for instance. He blinked a few times, before clutching the book tightly and hissing "Well, I'll leave you two love-birds to yourself now. Bye..I'll come back when it's a bit more..quiet". After this, he quickly exited the area and followed the Headmaster through the hallways. Something was on his mind, and he truly needed to ask the ol' sage of Hogwarts about it.

He darted through the halls, knowing that he could catch up to the professor if he did so seeing as the old man was walking as slow as...well a hundred and ten year old man, really. He gasped for air for a moment, before darting back out of the hallways and towards the large, near completely white-covered figure at the end of one of the halls, as he cried "Headmaster! I need to speak with you!!"

Cyrus blushed deeply at her compliment, considering his numerous scars and pasty complexion, "handsome" would'nt be the word he's use to describe his appearance "Ghoulish" may've been more appropriate, but he left it-twisting compliments was hardly the way he wanted to be seen. "Your quite pretty yourself-besides, age has it's benifits, expeience..and authority, generally" He gave the older woman an appraising look. She really was quite beautiful, he could'nt belive she was in her 90's early or mid forties maybe. He raised an eyebrow at the last part of her comment "Now why on eatrh would I want you and dumbledore to not be here?" He asked, genuinely curious, considering he was'nt a real leader type-and these two had that kind of experince & mentality.

Sophia, in her scatterbrained state realized what she had said at the last moment, and also realized what a complete fool she had actually been to say it out loud. "Oh, I do apologize, it was just a bit of a bad joke. It's just that I..seem to see a great future ahead of you, that isn't to say you have not had a brilliant life so far, but one could always hope for more, correct?". She chuckled lightly as this, before breaking the mood by dipping her hand into her purse, which was light yellow and was tightly gripped in her right hand, to retrieve a chocolate frog, which she presented to the man after saying "Chocolate Frog?" as-if to ask him if he wanted one, though both knew that she indeed was going to have him take it whether he wanted to or not.

Cyrus shugged, nonchalant about his skills-he knew they were impressive, but aquiring such power came at a cost " Honestly, i'm more suprised that im still alive considering how I learned the things I know" He said quietly, not wanting his rather lurid & shady past to come to light too quick. He smiled at the older womans offer of a chocolate frog, taking the animated sweet and biting it's head off before it went and got lost "Thanks..sophia" He told her. "Ahh, forgive me if this seems a bit blunt, but would you like to have dinner sometime? It seems my reputation either overawe's or horrifies most people-and since you seem to be one of the handfull who dont go to pieces around me.." He left off, hoping that he made sense.

Sophiana blushed a tad bit at the request of her senses, as she realized how the mans statement might just have sounded. He hoped he did not mean to say his words in the way and tones that she heard them, her head turning to the side a bit as she pondered the mans request. "A-are you..?" She stuttered a bit, rather confused and perturbed by the man for quite a short while before she was able to actually complete a full sentence. "Are you asking me out on a date, Mister Hawkins? You are indeed are AWARE of the fact that I am in fact old enough to be your mother, and in that fact, your grandmother?~ I mean, on an odd occasion, I could be your great-grand mother- Oh goodness, now I truly feel old" The senior witch spoke in perfect elocution and with precise toning, though with still a hint of confusion hidden partly in her voice.

Cyrus stared at her for a moment, his mind racing "Honestly, no-unless you'd like it to be?" He gave the older woman a rougish grin, happy to be having some fun "As for age-it only means what you want it to, if you think old you'll be old-and somehow I doubt you think old." He went and stood close to her, loking into her eyes "Friends or more, eithers ok.." He told her, and winked before finishing the frog and browsing some of the more acceptable magic, leaving his real intrest for another time when he was'nt under such tight observation.

Re: Hogwarts: The Era of the Marauders ((IC Board)) ( )

Postby DCLXVI on Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:49 pm

Sirius yawned. He hadn't had to get up this early since... well, since last June.

"You know, Prongs," he said, "I know this isn't your style, but perhaps," he put out his hands as if suggesting something radical and crazy, and gave James a serious look, "Perhaps you should find... now, don't take this the wrong way---"

A shout of "Get on with it!" from Remus forced a smile onto Sirius's face, and he continued. "Perhaps you should, you know, obsess over some other girl for a while? One who isn't, like, you know, insane?"

James didn't really obsess over Lily Evans, but it did seem that he mentioned her a lot. I ask him about Snape, and the first word out of his mouth is "Lily." That's unhealthy. And she obviously had a thing for the greasy little twerp. If Snape was her kind, James didn't stand a chance. He was too smart, too popular, too clean, had friends who were too cool... Perhaps he should put some cooking oil in his hair. That'll turn her on.
