The RP if run would be open to people both familiar and unfamiliar - as by design the setting works exceedingly well with people who don't know it or do.
A basic run-down however is that a bunch of people are unwittingly pulled into a reality altering game that determines the fate of their world quite literally. Its a setting that directly plays off of RPG elements - inventory management systems, levels, etc.
