How do you define your style? ( )

Postby Syren Song on Thu Sep 11, 2008 8:16 pm

Do you consider yourself preppy, nerdy, dorky, indie, emo, punk-rock, country, nothing, or something else? How come? Have you always had that style?

I suppose I consider myself preppy-indie-adult. I watch a lot of What Not To Wear, and I agree with Stacy and Clinton's fashion sense. Being 21, it works out well for me. I wasn't always into fashion. I don't think I really started getting more in tune with the way I dressed until about my Junior year in high school, but it hasn't been until probably a year or two ago that I became a complete fashion nut. xD

I am a complete and total nonconformist. I hate being labeled and I do not label others. Even in my writing, and especially as pertinent to my genre (crime fiction), I never refer to my characters as good or evil, the hero or villain. I just consider it all to be so highly subjective.

I listen to music no one has ever heard of. My three favorite artists are Vienna Teng, Julia Ecklar, and Sara Groves. I also really like Farewell June and Enigma. (Heard of any of them? If so, cool!) I write music too, for piano and voice, and it's rather depressing!

My writing delves heavily into philosophy and all my characters are presented on a level plane, equally sympathetic and tragic.

I've never been into fashion and quite frankly, never will be. I dress however I feel, which is usually pantsuits or long skirts. :D

As for my political views, I am a total nonconformist. I am NOT liberal, conservative, and definitely not moderate. I am extremely religious and extremely open-minded, which has led to a lot of hateful comments from both the Far Right and Far Left.

I'm a square peg that can't be jammed into a round hole. :)

Sketchy writers... All of us are somewhat cuckoo at heart.

I'd label myself as a severely depressed philosopher with issues that people think I'm older than I am... which isn't bad, until I'm 40... Anyways, I listen to Pink Floyd, Metallica, Billy Idol, and I think that Richard Matheson is the single most brilliant short story writer to be born. Oh, and did I mention? I'm a commie. Try to fit that down democracy's throat.

That was pretty freakin awesome! haha

That's a really interesting viewpoint. I admire that. And no, I haven't heard of those bands, but somehow I've found I haven't heard of a lot of bands lately, which is sad. (I've been on the search for more music lately, so maybe I should check them out?)

I adore philosophy and psychology, too.

As long as YOU feel confident in what you put on your body and you can walk out the front door feeling pretty, then that's really the most important thing. It's sad when people attempt to convince themselves that they are happy the way they are when they simply aren't, but they're too afraid of change. I myself am ridiculously into fashion, but I just don't have the money to ever buy myself any clothes or accessories, so I'm left with mediocre outfits or wearing clothes from one or two years ago. I just feel wonderful when I find that perfect shirt or pair of pants that really emphasize all the right parts of me. I always know when I don't feel right or confident in my clothes. I just become less social.

I do consider myself liberal though. I'm not widely into politics though myself, although I have been keeping up with the presidential election this time more so than ever. (I vote Obama!)

I label myself as an alternative goth.

I am very very into going to raves, however, I refuse to indulge in illegal substances, or drink. I may hang with people that frequently get baked, and I refuse to participate. I'm the responsible driver, per say.

I am a complete eyeliner and eyeshadow junkie. I enjoy creating new looks, and adjusting old ones. I must ALWAYS match my eyeshadow to my outfit of the day. I love helping others, and I am commonly seen helping someone adjust or fix it in the bathrooms or in class.

I also love shopping. Whether it is for myself, or a friend, it is so fun. I enjoy going through shelves and store racks. I've actually broken my hand from loading so many hangers onto it =p

There are days where I choose not to wear any black besides my eyeliner. I usually wear a pair of faded jeans, and a normal shirt, most of the time not black.

I became more so goth when I entered high school. I went really really hardcore into it, but during my sophomore year, I started to miss the things I used to wear and do, so I backed out of it slightly. I still am goth, but I don't go really really in depth to it. I used to be preppy, skater, and a complete nerd. Star Wars FTW =p

umm, i'd go with goth for myself as in the true definition (that I find for it at least not the stereotype most people know) of my personality. But if you want a stereotype of how I dress it depends on what day it is. Normal or bizarre (things like 2 belts and a chain, a top hat, and a mask made of wood that actually fits only my face [made it myself] so that it looks a bit better)

Note: if when you hear "goth" you think instantly of people wearing all black worshipping satan you should be forced to go read up on what the goth community really seems to consist of. I think someone submitted a really good recap of it on deviant art I'll link it if I find it.
Some things are far worse then those that go bump in the night.
The things that don't.

Communism and democracy are not mutually exclusive.

Which is why the cold war happened. So a lack of government and voting for a government aren't mutually exclusive?

If you are on a website like this one, you automatically disqualify from being called "normal." Normal people don't do this kind of thing--or are even more than dimly aware of it.

Dude. Do you even know what communism is? Just because the people who were running the country during the second world war were a dictatorship, that doesn't mean that all communists are. That's like saying all cheerleaders are whores and all Christians are Republican. Just because it is frequently occurring, doesn't mean one necessitates the other.

n. often Communism a theory or system of social organization in which all property is vested in the community and each person contributes and receives according to his or her ability and needs. (This definition is according to answers.com) Many people get democracy and capitalism confused nowadays, or so it seems to me...

My style is oddball. Many layered skirts with tennis shoes (different one on each foot, depending. My feet are different sizes...) brilliant colors or stripes (just black and white) with splashes of one color.

I often wear all black, but that's because I did a lot of clothes bartering with my old roommate who was a goth girl and I liked the fit of a lot of her clothes and she needed stuff she could wear to a job interview. Also I am a klutz so I wear black because it shows stains the least.

Oh, and Naked. I wear naked a lot to. I like to call that my super comfy style.
The apple falls far from the tree
she's rotten and so beautiful
I'd like to keep her here with me
and tell her that she's beautiful
She takes the pills to fall asleep
and dreams that she's invisible
Too many dreams she stays awake
recalls when she was capable...

Dude, I know what communism is. The end result is supposed to be a lack of government. I never said anything about totalitarianism... what made you think I did? I've read the damn manifesto, it's the reason I follow communism. And anyways, those people weren't communists, they were oppurtunists. It's like saying that Nationalist Socialism is socialist... it's fascism, just because it calls itself by one name doesn't mean it is that.

My style is all my own, I take what I like from other labels and mix it in with my personal taste. My fashion? A cross between hip hop, alternative, and rock. Musical taste? It's very wide, from Madonna to Bullet For My Valentine, Macy Gray to Hoobastank, Vyncent Flaw to Princess Superstar, so let your brain exploded thinking on that one. My political view? Keep a death grip on every dollar you get.

Like Official-lightbulb, I'm a loner. LOL no I'm not anti-social, I just keep to myself and don't dip in other peoples kool-aid. I'll talk to anyone, just because someone is preppy, goth, or polka-dotted red doesn't mean their a bad person or less than. They have their style and I have mine. ^_^
