Invictus (OOC) ( )

Invictus IC Thread

Rather than come up with a thoughtful introduction about this RP, I am going to let it flow like a true story and give it a beginning post that will be expanded on with additional posts. However, while I have already thought up a great portion of the story's concept, I would be honored to accept ideas from those participating in this RP as well. Rather than having a story created solely by me, the story would prove far more interesting if its whole community would participate in creating the story.

The following is what I have come up with thus far:

The story is that of fantasy, although the story is set in the modern day. In it, the human species is split between three factions, that of normal humans, espers, and mediums. In addition, there also is a faction outside the human race known as ghosts. In the city of Winchester, the "humans" have forced all espers to live in the Slums, an abandoned part of the city that is essentially falling apart and is subject to the cruelty of time. Despite efforts to make espers and mediums equal, they remain second class citizens to this day. Meanwhile, espers and mediums are warring against one another in order to claim territory in the Slums, and all the while both esper and medium gangs are fighting amongst themselves. However, ghosts have also proven useful to espers as well, and esper-ghost groups have become a popular method of dealing with the mediums who threaten their territory. Whilst all this commotion follows, a group of espers and ghosts have created an organization known as Epoch, which serves as a place of peace and communication between the human and esper world. Epoch also runs a service in order to finance their efforts. The human police force employs Epoch to solve supernatural mysteries which surface around Winchester that can range from the banishing of ghosts to the removal of menacing mediums and wayward espers.

Normal humans are those without any sort of abilities outside the range of the average human. They call themselves the elite, yet are known by the espers and mediums as "blue bloods." Within the society of normal humans are those known by all factions as the "Hounds", who serve as a force to repress espers and execute mediums and rebellious espers, as well as those who assist them. Hounds are equipped with an assortment of state of the art weaponry, and carry with them a vial filled with "tonic," a mixture of ectoplasm capable of repelling the powers of espers and mediums.

Espers are essentially humans who possess supernatural abilities, generally awakened after coming in contact with ghosts. Espers are known by humans as "freaks" or "mutants", despite the fact that they are not physically different in appearance. Espers are able to not only detect ghost but also influence the human mind in various ways. Espers may possess the ability of telepathy, psychometry, dream walking. or a myriad of other powers. In addition, espers also utilize in specialized techniques in order to combat Hounds or mediums. One of which is making a contract with a ghost, who will then lend their services to the esper in the form of a weapon capable of physically severing ghosts and the souls of the living. An esper who has made a contract with a ghost is known by the esper community as an Operative.

Mediums are the offspring of espers which seperated from esper society in order to indulge in dark and disturbing techniques. Mediums are known by average humans as "cultists" or "satanists" regardless of religious practice or beliefs. The most popular techniques used by mediums are Soul Harvesting and Soul Crafting. Soul Harvesting is the collection of souls from dead bodies, meanwhile Soul Crafting is a ritualistic practice which creates a physical body for the collected soul, thus creating a ghost. The physical construct may mirror in appearance to the body the soul possessed when alive or the form the medium desires the ghost to take. Mediums are capable of destroying ghosts they have created, though it is possible to destroy other ghosts ritualistically.

Finally, ghosts are the children of mediums created from Soul Crafting. Ghosts are capable of existing forever, despite the fact that most are under the service of a medium for only a short time span. After a medium no longer requires the service of a ghost, they either destroy it or tether it to an object that the ghost will haunt for the rest of their days. When tethers, ghosts possess full control of their surroundings within a 50 yard radius and become invisible to average humans. The tether may then be broken by an esper or medium who is capable of agreeing to a contract with the ghost, or simply allow the ghost to roam free. If agreed to a contract, the ghost will possess three forms, a condensed form, a full body form, and a weapon form. The condensed form allows the ghost to become the shadow of either its Operative or a normal human, as espers and mediums cannot serve as hosts without consent. Hounds can be "possessed", however only when not having a tonic on their person. A full body form is a form visible to even average humans, and is the ghosts most comfortable state. Finally, a ghost's weapon form serves as an offensive weapon which an Operative may wield in order to defend itself. Each ghost turns into a distinct weapon that suits their personality.

This is as much as far as I have gotten so far. Soon, I will post the beginning of the story and we can get started, but before that let's discuss any sort of ideas or changes you would like to see in the story's idea.

In the meantime, PM me your character concept for this RP for approval. It doesn't have to follow any sort of character form; simply give me a few brief sentences about who your character is and, if you like, what he or she looks like. I will reply with whether or not your character is approved, and you can get started in story making magic!

By the way, I have set up a few rules to make things less chaotic:

1. Please do not make your character too powerful (god-modding)
2. If you are an esper, only give yourself one power.
3. If you are an esper, make sure your power focuses on mind manipulation (no pyromancy or telekinesis)
4. If you are a ghost, please give yourself only one weapon form (otherwise it gets confusing)
5. Please make your character unique (Please no stereotypical villains or confident protagonist characters)

Thank you, I have been thinking about this for a while now, so I hoped it would be acceptable.

By the way, I changed the name from Prudence to Invictus because it seemed more attractive and was symbolic for the idea of the story. I tend to be overly compulsive anyway, so it is likely that the title will not be static.

Anyway, Anyone who has been approved may begin talking here. This will be the place where you can meet up with potential partners and discuss any plot ideas publicly. For example, if you are a ghost in need of an esper or vice versa, this is the place to look.

I would also like to mention that anyone is playable in this RP. Espers, mediums, ghosts, Hounds, even normal humans are possible, so don't feel like you have to be any particular person.

This tale is all about personal expression. If you want to be more social or if you want to do battle or anywhere in between, you can. I also tried making each faction possess a stereotype of each class, so that way each character has an existing knowledge and stereotype of each faction and expands from that.

I guess we should have a bit of a character profile here so we can all know who we are, huh?

Name: Dhyan (Pronounced DEE-yan) Roberts.

Description: Dhyan is an averaged-sized, nineteen-year-old, african american girl with straight black hair that barely reaches past her ears. Her eyes are toned brown, but the shade of brown varies. It can be absolute pitch black at times at others dark brown, then hazel, up through shades of tawny gold, and finally pure white. She is usually very thin with not many curves at all. She's about five feet, five inches tall and has a wide, oval-shaped face.

History: Dhyan was adopted at two months old to parents who were very rich and a bit older from Jamaica. She was always considered a strange child, but then her parent were a bit eccentric so no one was bothered. She never told anyone about the voices, the music, that she could hear and no one else could. They were barely a whisper to her and easily ignored. Once she began middle school and puberty though, all of the stress on her body and mind caused her trait as an esper to explode in intensity.

Her parents, important people, were horrified at having an esper in the family. They searched desperately for a way out until they found a small organization known simply as Gentle Nudge. They believed that being an esper was something that could be cured by the very mental capacity espers were famed to have. So Dhyan was shipped off to what was basically an insane asylum. She spent seven horrible years there, alternately drugged into oblivion and tortured.

At eighteen there was a mass breakout at Gentle Nudge. She wasn't an instigator or a warrior in the rebellion, she just saw an oppurtunity and ran. Now, at nineteen, she's quiet, introverted to the extreme and the slighted bit insane.

I heard that there was a ghost who needed an esper? What's up?

My character is a ghost, but I have an esper ^^

Name: Shiori
Age apperance: 18

Description: In full body form, he seems to be a 5'9 school boy. His hair his short and light blue with bangs that tend to get into his eyes which are an icey blue. His face is slightly angular and childish. In weapon form, he chooses to be a long double edge sword with silver dragon hilt.

History: Shiori was created by a Medium to be a spy on the hounds. Shortly afterward however, the medium lost interest and tethered him to a statue of two dancers. He had been forced to stay there for 10 years before (Insert Ernest's character here.) came and signed the contract. In the begining of the role play however, he will be tethered ^^.

Yes, I will be Damien's esper. However, Sweet DK, if you are in need of an ghost, and Damien would like you as his, feel free. I won't make my character appear until I know what we need.

At the moment, this is the character list.

Ernest: Unconfirmed

Damien Silverwing: Shiori the Ghost

Sweet DK: Dhyan the Esper

Gautama: Avicenna the Alchemist (Hounds)

So, if there is a position that needs to be filled, I will take that position. ^w^

Oh, and I have put the In Character thread in the opening post of this thread for easy access.

I don't mind. I could be Dhyan's ghost if she is willing. I am up for anything.

In the meantime you can go ahead and make your first post. It doesn't have to be long, but a good solid introduction into your character's condition and personality.

It's difficult to draw people's attention for some reason; maybe because it doesn't have a straightforward title?

Either way, with four people we can begin and show everyone how much fun our RP is! 8)

I read the intro post and this RP looks cool. I will make a character profile for sure, just have to read the intro again to make sure I have a good understand of everything.
Socrates once said........ To fear death, my friends, is only to think ourselves wise, without being wise: for it is to think that we know what we do not know. For anything that men can tell, death may be the greatest good that can happen to them: but they fear it as if they knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. And what is this but that shameful ignorance of thinking that we know what we do not know?

Re: Invictus (OOC) ( )

Postby Gautama on Fri Jul 03, 2009 5:28 pm

Well, I started the Avicenna/Hound plotline. I intend to show that not all Hounds are vile, through their abuses of a diamond in the rough, allegedly one of their own. Hopefully, there will be an opportunity to draw Avicenna into the main plot. I found that I couldn't easily introduce this character earlier or later in his development without telling too much, and showing too little.

There's not too much more I should say about him here. I'm on the fence of whether he should be a hero or villain. His internal voice is rather cynical: I'm not sure whether he would judge the other races more sympathetically than he judges his own. I'll just flow with the RP.

I did decide, however, that he is in his mid-teens rather than mid-20's. If anyone wants to engage him, he is currently residing in a maze of secret passages beneath the metropolis called the "Labyrinth". It seemed like a good lair for the more dastardly of the elites to hide and plot, and the brains to perform their experiments.

The Labyrinth is an interesting concept that I look forward to in later plotlines. At the moment, we just need Sweet DK to make her first post, and Orion Vyrce to make his character description. After that, I can get a good feel for what we need and make my character in that fashion.

Most likely, Sweet DK will make her choice between the two ghosts (Damien Silverwing and myself/Orion Vyrce) and I will be the esper/ghost of the other person. Once we can get two teams going, more teams can join in later on.

I'm glad we were able to make it this far, and am thankful for all of your help in expanding the story

You're welcome. I guess I can hold this side-plot on my own for a while. It's inevitable that this bubble of villainy will bump into the protagonists' world.

Edit: On the other hand, it might help if you took control of a Hound in Avicenna's life. That way, he could make a transition into a hero, and you'll have the reins to a major villain. RP-wise, it makes sense that the Perfect Villain is controlled by the guy running the game. The comings and goings of villainy leads the plot. I just gave him one setting he could appear in.

Besides, Avicenna has too many flaws to make a Perfect Villain.

Edit2: Never call on me to make a decision. :?

You have an interesting point. Perhaps I could work out a good villain from your subplot. I'll start on it as quickly as possible to get you into the action. I'll probably make two characters, as it would be difficult to solely make villainous posts and stay within the action.

Works for me. I guess I can keep my character villainous if I'm not just talking to myself.
