Pulling up outside the house, he waited until Hayley got out of the car before tossing her his house key through the window and driving off again, heading for his spot beside the lake. He hadn't been there on his own in ages, but right now it seemed the only place he could go. When he got there, he cut the engine and rested his head against the steering wheel, feeling the tears that he had been fighting since they had left the hospital finally pouring down his cheeks.
Luke had been standing concealed by the corner house across the street for the past half hour. He knew from Hayley's mum that this was her scan date, and he wanted to know how it had gone. He didn't care that he probably looked like a psycho stalker, or that Liam wouldn't like him being here. He was confused, however, when Hayley got out of Liam's car only to have him speed off in the opposite direction. She looked hurt.
He crossed the street without looking, and was rewarded by some pretty hefty curses from the taxi driver that had nearly hit him, but he didn't care. "Hayley!" he called, approaching her somewhat cautiously. "Hey. You okay? Where's Liam gone?"
