Joplin Beach (Open) ( )

Postby KissnerCreator on Sat Apr 03, 2010 9:07 pm

The town is a small beach town named Joplin Beach. The place is rather rundown and grungy. Most of the people who live there are surfers, druggies, and generally poor people. It has long ago lost it's reputation as a beautiful and sparkling retirment and vacation beach for the wealthy. The water is greenish and the sand is mostly orange coquina. Not somewhere most would want to live....but there is something unusual going on in this humid and lazy place. For unexplicable reason it seems to be a magnet for the supernatural. Half-bloods, weres, and occasionally a vampire or two. This can make for some interesting situations.

Cat sat on the creaky park swing, her legs numb from pushing herself up and down for hours. As far as she could see the old park was empty of people except for herself. It had been all day. Parents wouldn't bring their children to a rusted, falling apart, and honestly, a bit dangerous, park when theres a nice, new one right over the bridge near the suburbs. So Cat often had this place to herself except for the occasional homeless person sleeping under the pavilion. As she brushed some knotted hair off her neck she looked out towards the beach a couple blocks up. The sun was finally setting and the heat was going down some. She should probably go home sometime soon. It could be dangerous at night here, especially for a girl her age. Then again it wasn't like anyone would notice her absence. It would be days afterwards that anyone would realize if she was missing or not. So instead of heading towards home she continued to sway languidle back anf forth, listening to the creaking of the chains and letting her dirty hands get coated with red-brown rust.

She sat silently and looked out over the ocean. She listened to the sound of the waves and the constant noise of the seagulls crying to each other. Night would come about soon, and with night came all the creatures. Those other freaks. Sure, Linea wasn't totally normal herself, but at least she wasn't like them either. She wasn't sure why she found comfort in that thought, but no matter what, it seemed to make the night a little less frightening, and that was good enough for her.

She hung her head a little, and allowed the brown hair to fall down in front of her face to hide it once more. A sudden gust of wind suddenly came and at once the brown locks of hair was moved once more. Linea didn't bother to move, she only sat there and stared at the setting sun, that dyed the sky such a wonderful orange-red. She had no doubt that she liked this, she much preferred sitting there over wandering around when it was night. She didn't think that a whole lot of people would show up, and bother her with their presence, if she just stayed where she was.

She pulled her jacket a little tighter around her as her hair settled once more. She crossed her arms across her chest, and looked up at the birds above her as there suddenly was an awkward moment of silence. She wasn't sure, but right at that moment, she couldn't even hear the waves. When the noises returned, a smile curled her lips, and she sighed in relief. With that, she reached down to her side and grabbed a hold of the bottle that was just about half empty. She held it firmly in her hand and held it up to the setting sun, as she whispered to it.

"We salute you!"

Her smile turned into a wide grin as she put the bottle to her lips and then drank. When she removed it again, she was still smiling but this time the smile was not as wide. No matter what, the taste a booze would always make her feel weird about herself, but that was usually only until she'd had enough.

She took another sip, and then stared back out over the ocean. "Guess it's time to loose my mind again." she then snickered.
Ich bin deiner Macht erlegen
Ich verliere den Verstand
Endlich kriechst du mir entgegen
Halt mich fest für immer
Immer dann, wenn du einsam bist
Wird dich mein Herz befreien
Immer, wenn dich der Wahnsinn küsst
Werd ich tief in dir sein
Tief in dir...

Makoto woke up a few hours ago and set up where he was going to go tonight. There was supposed to be a party going on at one of the abandoned parks but there were a few around and he did not know exactly which park they were going to be at. He tried to got some more info from some people he had met over the years but no one knew any more then he did. There was going to have to be a 'net stake' to find it. Everyone picked a park that they would stand. The first one to find it would send everyone the info. Makoto picked a park that was farther away but gave him a chance to free run along the building tops. He went up to the top of his building and mapped out his route. In no time he was flying across the gaps between the building wind rushing by. After twenty minutes he was just a block away from the park. To Makoto time stopped as he ran but he slowly snapped out of it as he ended his run. He looked around the park, and noticed a girl sitting on a swing. Makoto approached the girl hopping that she might have some information on the party he was trying to get to. "Excuse me miss, do you know anything about a party going on here?"

Cat startled at the appearance of the young man and almost fell backwards off the swing into the dirty sand but managed to catch herself in time. It took a few seconds for his question to register in her mind, before stuttering out an answer.

"N-no. I don't know anything. I'm sorry." Cat brushed some locks of dirty hair out of her face as she gazed up at the boy from where he sat. He looked fairly familiar.....it was probably someone she'd seen around town. Or maybe he had attended one of the parties that David and Anna-Molly threw at their tiny shack of a house. People here tended to all run in the same circles or they'd overlap a lot. A party was a party here. It didn't matter where it was or who had planned it. She pulled away from the boy a little more, cautious in case he was an enemy of David's. Generally they only picked fights with him but there had been an instance where one guy threw a beer bottle at her head and Cat wasn't taking any chances.

"There may be one tonight...I heard the police are keeping tabs on the one over the bridge." She offered politely.

"Dang, means I got the dummy park" Makoto said, mostly to him self. He looked around, he needed to stay here until he got a call telling him where the actual party would be. Makoto decided that he would hang around the girl for a while, after all some conversation is better then beating himself up for not picking the right park. Makoto sits on a swing with one between him and the girl. He could tell that she wasn't all to comfortable so he was giving her some space. As he sat looking up at the sky he tried to start a conversation with the girl. "Thanks for the help, I'm Makoto by the way." he looked at her for a second and gave a sweet smile when he said his name then looked back up at the sky.

Matthew glanced out the window of his third-story apartment at the setting sun. He was just getting ready to go out for a run. Always good to keep in shape, right? Plus, he wanted to see this new city at night.

As he laced up his favorite high tops, he thought about the circumstances that had brought him here. Quick flashes of images ran through his mind in a blur. There was his dad, yelling about his party boy lifestyle. There was him, yelling back. And there was his suitcase, sitting by the door, packed and ready to go.

Matt shook his head, not wanting these memories to ruin his night. He grabbed his iPhone and college sweatshirt and ran out the door of his apartment (nearly -but not quite- forgetting to lock the door), down the stairs, and out the door. There was a cool breeze in the air, and it made him shiver. A hobo was leaning against his building, and Matt felt bad passing without giving him anything. Sure, there were hobos in New York, but this just felt different somehow. Matt wasn't sure how.

He turned left toward the park to begin his exploration of Joplin beach's night life.

"Oh, " She kicked up some sand with her barefeet. "I'm Cat. It's nice to meet you Makoto." She gave him a small smile. The sun was almost completely down, the sky a dark grey with a few slivers of orange and pink in the West. The boy seemed decent enough, pleasent even but then again you never did know what went on in someone's mind. She played with a rip in the faded red baggies she wore. "Where are you from?" Cat glanced up through her snarled hair curiously. She did like to meet new people.....and keep tabs on potential danger and protection.

"To be honest I'm not exactly sure. My parents moved around a lot and when I was 12 the got divorced, I moved here on my own and they have been giving me the money I need to pay for my apartment. Before the divorce though I don't remember much, apparently I had some sort of problem with my memory." Makoto watched as the sky turned into different hues of colors in the setting sun, Counting the stars as they popped out. He loved the stars, couldn't remember why but he had a feeling that they were attached to a happy memory that he sheared with someone he loved a long time ago "What about you? From here or move here?" He looked at her this time as she talked.

"That's unfortunate." She commented. "I used to live over the bridge, in the nice suburbs. Then my parents died a couple years ago and I moved here with my sisters, Brigit and Anna-Molly, you've probably heard of them." Her young voice was matter-of_fact, as if she was talking about a school report. Cat only told him what everyone already knew around here, he seemed nice but she didn't think he needed to know everything. At least not yet but she was keeping an open mind and ear. She needed a new friend for protection. There was Hunter, a boy who she knew wasn't human, he would come to Joplin every week or so and she would stay in his apartment to avoid going home and dealing with her drugged up and drunk sisters and their boyfriends. He protected her, he acted like an older sibling should. Hunter was gone though, something had happened and he left Joplin for good several weeks ago. Cat no longer had anyone to protect her. No one to run and hide to. She was alone again.

Matt jogged until he reached the old park. He saw two figures talking, and decided to introduce himself. Friends are good to have, right? He walked over and leaned against a slide, quickly standing back up again when the rust came off on his UAlbany sweatshirt. Brushing the rust off as best he could, he said, "Hey there. I'm Mattie. I just moved in a few blocks down, and I was wondering what there is to do here." He smiled nicely.

Makoto thought about the names. They sounded familiar or maybe it was the way she said them. As hard as he tried nothing came to mind, "The sound familial but I can't place them." He finally said giving up. After moving that from his mind a asked something he had been wondering sense he got here. "If you don't mind my asking, and I'm not trying to pry, but what are you doing out here alone?" he looked around noticing that there was not even the tell tell signs of even hobos being here for at least a week.

Cat opened her mouth to spout out some lie but another young man appeared. Saving her the trouble of explaining herself.
"Hello," She gave him the same smile she gave Makoto. "I'm Cat." Two new guys in one evening, that was unusual. This Matty boy looked very out of place though. Wearing nice clothes, clean clothes, rather than grungy second hand stuff that most locals wore. It was possible he had really moved here. It was even likelier that most of what he was wearing was stolen from a richer house over the bridge. No one moved here by choice if they had money like that.
"Hmmm...." She felt a bit vulnerable and small surrounded by two big guys. She shifted in the swing a little, making it easier for her to jump up and run if need be. "Not much"

"Nice to meet you Cat."
He held out his hand for her to shake, then thought better of it and put it back into his pocket. Kids could seem innocent, but in places like this it was hard to tell. A fourth grader had stolen his watch yesterday, so Matt was wary of the youth of Joplin Beach. "Too bad, I need something to do to keep me sane. Maybe I'll take up sewing," he joked, grinning. He looked to the other figure, and saw a guy, taller than himself (of course, everyone was taller than him), and just a tad more intimidating than the girl Cat. Matt looked him over thoughtfully. Not bad looking, but definitely not his type. A bit too pale...

Makoto looked at the new person in the soulless void that was the park. He smiled at the new guy " Hi Mattie, I'm Makoto." He stood up and looked at the man in front of him. He stood over the man by about five inches but they seemed to be about the same age. "If your looking for something to do, here in a few minutes I should be getting a call to the location of a party. Its going to last a while and I do some of the DJ'ing if you want to do that." He looked him over "Then again it might not be your thing."

Matt looked up at the other man, decidedly more intimidated than before. He wasn't about to let that show, though. "Hiya." His head was tilted pretty far back so he could look at Makoto's face. "What kind of party? It has to be more fun than I've had the past few days. Man, I miss people." He frowned slightly, recalling the party scene back home. He had been the life of the night clubs there.

Cyprian sat in a bench nearby the two young men, smoking a cigarette, listening to their conversation and contemplating. He had not been to a "party" in ages. He often smoked and drank, going unnoticed into local bars or pubs, but never accompanied by anyone. He pondered the thought.

Would I fit in at a party fitting today's standards?

He remembered when "parties" consisted of formal dress and live orchestral performances, wine tasting and speeches made in dimly lit ballrooms. Long gone were those days. He took in a breath and tasted the air, and the smell of herb, liquor, and tobacco cascaded down his throat. This was the normal smell of the town. He wasn't searching for these scents. He took in another breath and caught the smell of deodorant and cologne, and could tell at least one of these people took care of themselves, unlike most of the inhabitants of this run down beach-side town.

He stood, and looked hesitantly in the direction of the voices. Sighing, he gathered himself and began walking through the park, still wondering if he should attempt to converse with the two men.

Matt noticed another figure moving toward them. He smiled widely. More friends.
He waved and motioned for whoever it was to come over and talk. This was probably a bad idea in this city. Heck, this could be a some guy straight off "America's Most Wanted" for all he knew. He wasn't really thinking about that though. He smelled smoke and he could really use a cigarette right now. Blame his ADHD, but acting on impulse was what he did best.

The vampire saw the smaller of the two wave in his direction. The deodorant/cologne smell was strong now. He stopped for a moment, hesitating, but decided that there wasn't much of a chance that anything bad could come of speaking with the two, and walked silently toward them through the park, dead leaves falling to the ground from the trees around him. He had noticed that the smaller boy smelled slightly of tobacco, and could sense the tension that comes from a man craving nicotine.

When he reached the two, he quietly pulled out three cigarettes, placing one between his lips and lighting it. He held one out toward the shorter boy, and offered the other to the taller one, out of courtesy for the stranger. His black hair fell around his pale face, slightly shadowing his eyes, giving his composure an air of politeness and submissiveness.

"Evening, gentlemen. I'm Cyprian."

"Its a party, grungy, loud beats, glow sticks, x, party." Makoto said to Mattie noticing yet another man walking in the park. he thought to him self that it was odd that so many people were showing up to a park that was just a few seconds ago devoid of all but one life. When the man approached and offered a cigarette Makoto took it. He was never one for smoking but he almost always had something in his mouth. after lighting the cigarette he greeted Cyprian. "I'm Makoto" he said smiling "thanks for the cigarette." His mind started wondering to the party. He new the party could not be here dew to the cops just over the bridge. Most likely it would be one of the two near his apartment. Just then his phone beeped letting him know that the party was found. He wasn't to far off on his guess ether. He looked at the message on his phone:

PARTIES ON ME...FIVE BLOCKS SOUTH MAIN HOUSE

The message was from one of Makoto's group and was at the park near his first apartment. Makoto looked at Mattie "Well we have the location if your still willing to go." he then turned to Cat, "It was nice hanging out with you for a bit. You are very nice company and I would like to talk to you again." He gave her a small bow. Makoto was always taught to be very polite to girls. Then he turned and started to walk to the party.
