What would you do, if everything you'd planned fell apart right before your eyes?

This roleplay is based around the lives of six teenagers, who just finished high school. For years they studied hard to get good grades at the end of their school life, but for whatever reason, they failed their exams. Their last chances have fluttered away in the breeze and now they've been left without a qualification to their name. What will they do? That part is up to you.

-X-

Ivy groaned as her alarm went off. Loud pop music from the radio filled her room and she turned miserably on her side to hit the doze button. She thought she'd got rid of alarms when she'd finished school, but then things hadn't gone as she'd planned had they? In the next few minutes, Ivy managed to sit herself up, whilst looking around the room in a sleepy daze. She was sure she'd put her work outfit on the chair in the corner of her room and now it wasn't there. Hesitating slightly, the 18 year old pulled her body from her bed and made her way into the bathroom where she washed, brushed her teeth and ran a come through her golden waves. Once she was done, she stumbled out of her room, kicking away a bra that got stuck around her ankle. Her room was a mess; She'd not had time to clean it whilst working hard 8 hour shifts at the café.

Ivy wandered across the large landing towards the laundry room. Once she reached the door, she tiptoed in and proceeded to fumble around the basket for her work suit. Eventually she found it in a crumpled heap at the bottom. With a sigh, she took it back to her room and got dressed, before silently creeping into her little brother's room. He was fast asleep, his arm spread out across the pillow. Ivy smiled at him and kissed his forehead gently. The last couple of months had been tough on them both but they'd acted as rocks to each other.

Without saying goodbye to her parents, Ivy snook out of the house whilst grabbing her car keys. She hopped into her mum's car and gunned the engine. She'd gotten used to driving her mother's little beatle to the mall everyday and enjoyed the quiet ride there. She made sure to wind the windows right down and enjoyed the breeze that whipped around the car. It always woke her up properly.

Eventually she arrived at the mall; It was deserted being as it was first thing in the morning. She locked the door and then made her way inside, waving to the security guard as she went. She saw him every morning and whereas most people found his muscular build intimidating, Ivy just accepted it to be a part of him. Like failing her exams was a part of her. Supressing a sigh, she made her way into 'Stop n Stare,' mumbling a quick hello to the manager. She hung up her jacket and worked her way into the kitchen, where she fixed herself her breakfast before she had to head out to serve people.

7:00 A.M.

The clock on the wall, directly parallel to his bed, struck 7 in the morning; upon instinct, Jesse woke up to stare the two hands in the eye, standing still for the briefest second that his mind could process before moving on again. He gently pushed the blanket, covering him up to his chin, down to his stomach before sitting up and looking around his room; wondering if anything has been moved while he slept. With a sigh of relief and a small smile, he found none and rolled off the bed, feet carefully reaching for the pair of furry gray slippers just where he left them and perfectly aligned to each other.

Once he was up and awake, he then resumed to his morning rituals. He began fixing up his bed, fluffing the pillows back to the normal brand new appearance they had before he had used it the night before and then tucked in the blanket underneath the mattress, till it was smooth and clean against the bed. It was perfect. And the thought of it caused another smile to grace his lips. He then looked up to check on the time again, it was 7:20. It was time.

He walked to his bedside table on the left, where his black-rimmed glasses lied folded neatly next to a book that seemed to be untouched for years now but held no single spot of dust to prove the theory. He adorned his hazel orbs with his specs, pulling out his morning handkerchief from the drawer and wiping the glasses thrice out of impulse and closing the same drawer thrice upon returning it. He then walks off towards the window, eyes quickly scanning the street for any parked cars to reveal today's events. There was only one yellow car right across the street - which meant it was going to be a better day than yesterday and it caused another smile to grace his lips.

He closed the windows shut, the drapes gracefully falling towards each other and meeting at the center to hide any ray of the morning sun to enter his room. It was grimly dark, just as it always was at 7:30 in the morning. He walked towards his door, unlocking the knob and listening to the bolt's unlocking sound echo through out the hallway. He peered his head out curiously, one hand fumbling for the light switch on the wall and stepping out of his room. He turns around and closes the door behind him, three times and fixes his glasses twice, like he always does.

He casually walked towards the last door at the end of the hallway, opening it without knocking where his father lied on the bed, occupying most of the space while his mother sat on a rocking chair, half-asleep through the rocking. He smiled at her sleeping figure, opening the door two more times before walking in and quietly walking towards his mother. "Mom?" He asks aloud as he tapped her frail and cloth covered shoulder.

The woman shuddered a little into consciousness and pulled her taller son into a tight embrace, like she wasn't used to her son's twenty four hour lock down whenever a bad day stumbles into their midst. And he freezes at her touch, something that doesn't occur often. He pulls away as soon as he realizes that his mother had held him far too long than he liked. "Come on Mister Jesse Miller, I know you're hungry by now," She told him with a smile when he pulled away. And though he wasn't quite comfortable with the full name mentioning, Jesse knew she was right.
All I'm hoping for is one

Alice groaned as she awoke to the sun streaming directly through the one small window in her bedroom and into her eyes. She struggled to untangle herself from her blankets and got out of bed, dragging herself zombie-style to her tiny bathroom and fumbling for the shower taps. The hot water helped her force her eyes open, and five minutes later she was on her way back to her room, binding her unruly red hair into a large bun. She dressed quickly in dark-grey skinny jeans and her favourite purple t-shirt and returned to her bed, reaching beneath it and pulling out a glass bong and wooden bowl. A few cones later and her head comfortably clouded, she returned to the kitchen for a strong cup of coffee and a cigarette. After her second cup it was back to the bathroom once again for eyeliner and mascara, and a couple of eyedrops each side to prevent them turning bloodshot.

An hour or so later she emerged into the street, her eyes unconsciously narrowing against the bright sunlight. She strode down the road, not bothering to lock her front door. No-one would bother attempting to break into her tiny, dingy flat and there was nothing in there worth stealing anyway, unless they found her stash. Deciding she'd like one more coffee, she started in the direction of the mall which housed her favourite coffee shop. Pulling her wallet from her bag she counted the contents quickly.
"$43," she mumbled to herself, "I can afford it."
She checked the time and swore, realising that the mall wouldn't even be open yet, and stopped at the park a few blocks away, seating herself on the swing to roll a joint. She rocked slowly back and forth, letting the thick smoke drift from her mouth slowly and watching it as it spiralled upwards and away. She leaned back further to see how high it would go before dissaparating, and felt herself overbalance. She made a grab for the sides of the swing, missed, pinwheeled her arms, failed to stop herself from falling and landed with a thud on the bark chips that covered the parks surface.
"Ugh," she groaned, picking herself up slowly and sweeping the bark from her back and legs, "I don't know why the hell they cover the ground in this stuff, it's so not soft."

Deciding that parks were dangerous and not a cool place to hang out, she started toward the mall again, figuring if she wandered there slowly enough it would be open by the time she arrived.

Ethan's eyes fluttered open after the sunlight had begun dancing over his lids, making his sleepy vision orange. He shifted, turned over, and relaxed. For a long moment, he wasn't comprehending where he was. He certainly wasn't at home. Then his arm touched warm flesh, and he opened his eyes and turned his head to look next to him. A gorgeous blonde was sleeping soundly, her bed-head dominating the pillow beneath her head. Alright, so he couldn't remember last night, except sharing a few drinks with the girl at some party.

"Lianne!" An elder woman's voice called from behind the closed door, which made Ethan's body shot up into a seat. Immediately his hand slammed on his forehead, muffling a hangover headache.

"Shit..." Ethan hissed, jumping out of the bed in all his nude glory. He managed to grab hold of his jeans and t-shirt and bundle it in front of his package before the old woman opened the bedroom door, and found him standing there, embarrassed as all hell.

"Oh god..." The woman muttered, slamming the door closed again. And with the slam, Lianne began to stir awake. She raised her head and glanced over to where Ethan was hastly slipping in his jeans and buttoning them with nervous fingers.

"Where 'you goin'?" She purred, grinning up at the handsome guy.

"I'll call you, 'kay?" Ethan lied, he didn't even have her number. But before she could realize that, he was off through the door.

By the time Ethan reached his usual Mall cafe for a refreshing coffee and waffles, he was laughing about the whole incident. He pulled up into the parking area, found a spot and jogged to the door. When he was inside, with his messy hair, and last night's clothes, he was relaxed and pretty damn glad that he didn't have work today. Although it would benefit him to work more, he was rather sick of the laborous work. His father wasn't pleased with him, even though it wasn't really his fault that he failed the exams, his mother, though, understood that the swine flu had a big impact. Well, maybe it was the reason why, recently, his parents haven't been getting along.

Ethan positioned himself in the line to get his breakfast, while fishing inside his wallet for perhaps a little bit of cash to cover this. When he did find a ten and a twenty, he replaced the wallet in his back jean pocket, and ran his hand through his messy spiked hair. Damn, what a night, he mused.

Forty minutes later Alice had reached the mall, prolonging the time it took to cover the fur blocks she'd had left to travel via a long conversation with a rather ragged man she'd passed sleeping on a bench.
"You look like you could use a joint," she'd commented, taking in his tired and worn appearance, and he'd readily agreed. They discussed the meaning (or lack thereof) of life or a time and she'd continued on her way.
The cafe was open when she reached it, but clearly hadn't been for long. A few customers were scattered through the booths but the place was mostly empty, just the way Alice liked it. She drifted to the counter and ordered something that sounded highly caffeinated with a piece of cake and retreated to one of the corner booths, pulling her iPod from the pocket of her jeans. She leaned back, her head bopping gently in time with the music and had almost fallen asleep when a beaming waitress brought her coffee over.
"Thanks, love," she gave the woman a smile and sipped, a sigh escaping her lips as she set the cup back down.
"That's alright," this woman seemed incapable of removing the wide and rather forced looking smile from her face, "Is there anything else?"
Alice shook her head, letting her eyes drift away from the woman and around the room. The woman nodded and left her to her thoughts.

Once she'd finished her portion of waffles and tea, Ivy pulled on her apron. She stifled a yawn, still not fully awake yet and then made her way out of the kitchen. She saw the ever growing que at the till and with a groan made her way over. She loathed till work, but the girl who was on it currently, only started work here a day ago. She was holding people up and arguing with an old man. Supressing a frustrated sigh, Ivy walked over to them.

She lay her hand gently on Fran's shoulder. "It's ok, I can take up your spot." She nodded at her and watched as the girl slipped away, leaving Ivy to deal with the old man. She looked at him, an invisible smile on her face. "Good morning sir, what seems to be the problem?"
"I just want a cup of coffee." He groaned and flopped his hands to his sides. Ivy nodded at him with a smile. "Ok, one tea. £1.45 please." She took the coins he handed her and wrote down his order, sticking it on the side for the kitchen staff. "Please put this number on your table." She handed him the plastic number and then watched as he shuffled away. "Next!"

Ivy watched a young man come to stand infront of her. Her eyes took in his messy blonde hair and she shifted in her seat slightly. "Good morning, what can I get you?"

Ethan raised his head up from his thoughts, the line had moved up. Was it really taking that long for the old man to order some damn coffee? Well, the argument subsided when the cafe-girls switched, and Ethan found himself being next. He stepped up to the counter, flashed the pretty blond girl a charming smile but didn't proceed to flirting with the girl, he just wanted a quiet breakfast without the worry of not getting her number. He has seen her before, though, at school maybe. With that thought entering his head, he shook himself out of his mind, he didn't really want to think about school or the failed exams.

"Uh, coffee, with cream and sugar, I guess," He looked up at the menu above her head, "And a cream-cheese bagel," With that he dropped his dark gaze back down on her, whipping his worn brown leather wallet from his back pocket, to take out however much she'd say it cost him for what he ordered.

Alice swirled the last of the dark brown liquid in the bottom of her cup and gulped it down, reaching into her bag for a cigarette.
"Oh, to have reached mature age in the days when you were allowed to smoke inside," she muttered as she stood, sidestepping a scowling old man as he made his way to his table. She headed for the far door of the cafe that led outside, and seated herself on the bench against the outside wall, pulling a lighter from her bag with one hand. She lit her 'vile, disgusting, cancerous suicide stick!' as her mother had often screeched whenever she found Alice sitting in her windowsill. Thank god the stupid woman never suspected it was more than cigarettes Alice was smoking, or she probably would have dobbed her in herself.
Well, anyway, no point in thinking about it. There was nothing the old bitch could do to stop her doing anything now. Alice rarely pondered the direction her life was heading, preferring instead to live in the moment. She was well aware the moment wasn't going to change without any sort of thoughts for the future, but right now she was content.
"Or I will be in a second," she said quietly to herself, her eyes flickering once up and down the empty street before she reached into the hidden pocket of her bag. Perhaps something a little stronger than a cigarette...
She glanced up toward the closed door of the cafe, and saw no-one approaching. More than likely if they did, they would only want to share it anyway, she told herself, and rolled a large joint, switching it with her cigarette, which she crushed beneath the heel of her shoe quickly.
"Ahh," A sigh escaped her lips unconsciously as she took the first long drag.
"Yep. Definite perfection." For now.
Another puff on the joint chased the doubts from her mind and she leaned her back against the wall, letting her eyes fall shut under the suns' warmth.

Ivy nodded and wrote down his order, once again sticking it onto the side for the kitchen staff. She tapped it into her till and then looked up at him again. "That's £5.60, please." Ivy opened her cash register and then got up to make his coffee. With a sigh, she switched on the hot water machine (Sure there's a more professional word for that..) and ground come coffee granuals into the bottom of the mug. She filled it to the top and then proceeded to pour a jug of cream and added a pot of sugar with a tea spoon. It was almost like she was on auto pilot, not even bothering to look at what she was doing properly. So many people came here for coffee, she got sick of pouring so many cups! 'Should have done better on your exams then.'

Ivy batted away this thought and then pushed the tray towards the boy infront of her. She placed a plastic number next to his cup and looked up at him, waiting for him to give her his money. She studied his face quietly and then realised that he seemed somewhat familiar. "Hey.. Have I seen you somewhere before?" She asked, still not able to place his face.

Ethan fished out a ten and handed her the bill, leaning casually on the counter. The guy can seem comfortable in any environment he's in. He watched her work with the machinery in the cafe, noting that she knew her way around, like he knew his way around at his own job. He'd be stuck with that job for a while, and it proves he's not very motivated lately. Since no one was standing behind him, he continued to linger at the counter after she had asked if she's seen him. He could place it.

"School?" He shrugged his shoulders, gazing down at her. Upon mentioning school, he remembered about his tests, and with that, even her. "I think you sat next to me during the exams," Ethan admits, then as if the question was meant to follow, he voiced it, "How'd you do?" His charming smile has faded into a smaller one, one that didn't indicate he wanted into the girl's pants, which was the more usual case. Now living on his parent's necks, doing hard labor, and certainly wasting money shamelessly, he knew he had to get it together, and make something else of his life, but he couldn't. The life he was leading now, even with the negatives, was pleasant for him. Of course, his dreams were to go into college, be the star athlete, star student, but he's been dropped from the colleges that were looking into him. It's like he's been dropped off the face of the earth, and although it may seem like a bad thing, he sort of enjoyed his parents not pushing him into their ideal dreams anymore. He liked this lowlife, but for how long would he?

Danyelle sighed and rolled over in bed - resulting in her falling out. "Fuck." She groaned quietly, holding on to her head. Somehow, she had been invited to a party, in a house that she didn't know, and she had gotten paralytic. She could barely walk last night, and the alcohol was taking an effect on her now. The whole of her body hurt, but her head mostly. And the falling out of the bed hadn't helped much. Gripping her forehead with one of her hands, and the bed with the other, she hoisted herself back up so that she was in a standing position, swaying slightly. "I'm good." She said to no-one, honestly believing that she was going just a little bit crazy now that she was talking to herself.

She showered, got ready, ate a piece of toast that didn't taste all of the good and grabbed her keys, before she knocked on her room-mates door. "Don, I'm going out, okay?" She said quietly, to the lump on the bed. A hungover groan came from his shape, and she shook her head softly. Her cousin, Donnovan had taken her in when she failed her exams, and she was so thankful to him for that. He had also been the one to take her to that great party, so she couldn't really complain. "By the way, you look like shit." She grinned as she took a glass of water over to him that she had been carrying, and put a couple of pain killers next to his bed.
"Thanks." He said horsely, before taking them and gulping down the water. His head hit the pillow straight after, and she heard soft snores coming from him once more.
"Men." she sighed and walked out of the house.

She arrived at a small café a little while later, the apartment that she lived in not that far away from where it was situated. She had sunglasses covering her eyes, as the bright lights of the outside world were killing her slowly, but she pushed them up to rest on the top of her head when she was inside the small shop. Danni stood behind a guy who was being served, pondering as to what she was going to buy with her minimal amount of money.

Ivy took the money from him and placed it in the till before counting out the right change. She handed it over to him. "That's it. School." She nodded slightly as she recalled him at a desk looking as dumbfounded at the test infront of him as she had. She winced as he asked her the dreaded question. "Honestly? I crapped it up big style." She sighed, ignoring the decline she felt her mood take. It was always the same when she thought about her exams. If her mother could have just waited for at least one month, she may have come out of school with at least one qualification, allowing her access to further education. She shook her head slightly, remembering the day her parents had found her results. They hadn't even minded. As she could recall, Phillip, her stepdad's, exact words were. "I'm rich, you'll survive."

Batting this thought away, Ivy looked at him again, wondering if she should ask the question that was lingering in he head. She did. "How'd you do?"

Ethan stuffed his change back in his wallet, taking the cup of coffee and the plastic number in his hand, he wouldn't take more of her time because someone, he felt, stood behind him, in line for breakfast. Ethan's brows rose up, he hadn't noticed her being uncomfortable during the test, like she didn't know what she was doing. He was just terribly sick during his test, and the fever had made him look rather dumbfounded.

"Oh yeah? That sucks," He mutters, looking down at her hands, then as she spoke again, he rose his dark eyes to her's. "Ahm... You don't wanna know..." He chuckled, his charming smile returning onto his features. And with that, the conversation was ended. He glanced back at the person standing behind him, flashed her a smile and turned back to Ivy. "I'll let you get back to work," He speaks, tapping twice onto the counter then raising his hand in a sort of a wave. He'd find his way to a booth with his coffee, situating himself so he was able to look out at the rest of the mall. The blond girl at the counter, even if they had a very short conversation, intrigued him; but it seemed every blond intrigued him lately. With a huff of a chuckle, he sipped at his coffee, hanging his head downward to tend to his hangover headache.

Alice jumped as she heard footfalls close by her, stubbing out the last of her joint in a swift, automatic motion, but the girl who'd passed her simply entered the cafe and went to stand in line, clearly oblivious to Alice. She turned in her seat to look at the somewhat more crowded stalls, taking in the conversations and connections between people. Alice loved to do that, to study in silence and she found it wasn't all that difficult to figure people out.
She stood slowly and made her way back to her booth, holding up her empty cup toward the waitress in a signal for a refill. She'd seen the blonde waitress here before, and assumed she'd know what the gesture meant. Since the whole school thing had bottomed out, she'd been coming here a few times a week, just for a morning coffee and to sit ad think and observe.
She slid to the far side of her corner booth where she would be concealed from most curious eyes, but where she could still observe most of the cafe's customers. People always assumed the worst when they caught you staring, and often felt the need to express their dislike of it in an extremely rude way. Somehow Alice couldn't see, 'I was trying to figure out your innermost dreams and desires, and the way with which you relate to each other person in this room' as being taken as a reasonable explanation. She pulled her iPod from her pocket once more, wedging the tiny headphones into her ears and spinning the volume knob almost all the way up. Conversation would only distract her from her observations, since most connections are formed and communication made without speech. This would most likely prevent anyone from trying to start a conversation with her as well. Not that Alice didn't like meeting new people, some of her most interesting talks had been had with complete strangers, but the type of people who frequented mall cafe's weren't generally included in that category.
She let her eyes rest momentarily on each of the people in the shop, allowing herself a small giggle at the old man she'd seen when she first arrived, still muttering furiously to himself in the corner.

Ivy watched as he picked up his coffee. "Tell me about it." She fiddled with a tea spoon and laughed slightly as he told her about his own exam. "Well, that makes two of us." She shrugged. Of course, the fact that she'd failed the most important exams in her life still bothered her, but what use was there in dwelling on it? It wasn't like she could go back and do them again. "Yeah, I'll see you around." She looked at him properly then a smile playing on her face. She waved back and then turned to the girl who wanted to be served next. It was funny how one person could improve her mood, but he had done and she was grateful, whether he knew that or not.

"Good morning, what can I get you?" She pratically beamed at the girl, her fingers twitching, ready to hop up and make her next coffee.

Danni watched as the male in front of her left, and she moved forward in the queue, resting her hands on the counter. "Can I have something strong please? I don't really care what." She said quietly, a pained smile on her face. She hoped that the blonde girl in front of her would see that she had a huge hangover, and would just comply to her order. She looked familiar, and although she couldn't place where she had seen her before, she knew that she had done. Also, the male that had just felt was also slightly recognizable to her, but her brain wasn't really working and she just didn't know where from.

Ivy studied the young woman infront of her. "Hangover?" She asked, whilst getting up from her seat and setting herself onto auto-pilot again. She flipped a few switches around and let the coffee machine do it's stuff. That thing could make a coffee stronger than she ever could. With a little sigh, she tapped the order into her till again, before jumping back a little as the cash register flew open. "I swear, that thing'll have my finger one day. Err, £2.10 please." Ivy smiled then and got up from the counter to retrieve the girl's coffee. She placed it carefully on a tray and lined up a couple of plain biscuits next to it. She could have sworn this girl was familiar too.

"Do I know you from somewhere?" She queried, trying to place her face.

9:00 a.m.

Jesse would have probably still be in his yesterday clothes by now, lying on his stomach in front of the television watching morning news or some random channel that caught his interest; he would have probably still had a bowl of cold cereal in his hands - only half eaten; and he would still be, probably, in a happy countenance than usual. He would also have been cowering in the corner of his room, if he had stayed at home where his father had, upon his waking, began shouting at him and cursing words irrevocably in his face. If his mother had not pushed the intimidating man he knew as his father, he would probably be bruised by now. All because he didn't take the exams he promised to Ace.

He sighed to himself, walking along the block the second time around that morning, hands shoved in his coat pocket and glassy eyes staring at the floor more than where he was going. He was carefully watching out for the steps, looking up only when he saw a gaze of an incoming person and stops so they wouldn't have the opportunity to touch him. After finishing his second round that morning, he got tired and stopped in front of a cafe, where he ended his walk along the block looking for a place to sit. He wasn't used to walking that much anyway. He looked around again, looking at the same places before conferring with himself and deciding to just take a seat in one of the chairs inside the cafe and walked up to the door, opening it twice before walking in. He looked around and fixed his glasses, looking for a table with only two seats before he could actually allow himself to sit. He finally found one at the opposite corner of the cafe and decided to sit there, wiping his seat with a handkerchief he brought with him before he went out.

"Unfortunately." Danni said quietly, her eyes closed momentarily, before she opened them once more. She listened to the girl in front of her as she almost got her finger severed off by a till, and she pulled out her purse. She handed over the money and then slipped her purse away, picking up the till with a small smile on her face. She had remembered who this girl was in front of her, and she knew that the other boy was from school too, but she couldn't remember his name. "You're Ivy, right? I sat next to you in French a year or two ago."

Ivy took the money and placed it into the till before shutting it again. "Yeah, that's me." She smiled. "I remember now! Danni isn't it? Well, it's nice to see you again." She smiled as she stood up. "I'm sorry I can't stand around and talk but if my boss sees customers sat at tables without food he'll flip." She sighed, wishing there were more than a few new waitresses working here. She was the only 'experienced' one and was usually left to do most of the work. "See you around." She nodded once and grabbed a small pad of paper before heading over to a young man who was sat by himself at a two seater table.

"Hello, can I get you anything, sir?" Ivy asked politely, before turning to check the till again. Flick was sat in her place now, wrestling with the till. Ivy coughed back a chuckle before turning to face the boy again.
