It's the nineteenth century, sometime after the Great Purge, in which religious fanatics chopped off the tails of mutants, which bled them to death. (You remember this if you were in I Want My Innocence Back. If you weren't there, you really ought to check it out.) This roleplay explores some of the crimes committed against mutantkind around the same time as the Purge, focusing on the horrors imposed on vampires and werewolves in the Desperatio Asylum.

Members of both species are rounded up and placed in Desperatio, the most notably cruel institution in Western Europe. Males, females, vampires, and werewolves are not separated. All are crammed into a large cage in the building's center, to fight over food, to fight over space, to fight when the werewolves lose their heads every month. 'Lunatics' at the asylum, locked up for nothing more than being supernatural, are subjected to gruesome 'experiments' and showcased for paying spectators to gape and throw things at.

As a prisoner, can you unite with your fellows, rise above the chaos, and organize an escape?

As a surgeon or guard, will you ask moral questions and consider the ethical implications of your work, or continue to ruthlessly experiment on your poor charges?

Name: Simon Laurel

Personality: Quiet from the shock, but that will wear off soon enough. Normally outgoing and friendly and is headstrong in his sense of right and wrong. Will help others before himself often, very benevolent, but very bitter about what happened to him. Still getting the hang of being a vampire, his views of non-humans are being radically changed.
History: A few months before his incarceration, Simon was human, and in love with a woman from a traveling troup. Her show had stoppped in his home city for a few months, and they hit it off right away. When time came for her troup to move on, she begged him to come with her and elope. He agreed. Unfortunately she didn't tell him she was a vampire, and she bit him as soon as his back was turned. Come to find out, her entire troup was actually a small group of profiteers who would turn humans into vampires and sell them to the highest bidder, usually scientists, collectors, and various church groups who wanted to disect, experiment on, or kill vampires and would pay handsomely for them. Simon's lucky buyer: A scientist from Desperatio Asylum who wanted a specimen that was in prestine condition, uncorrupted by the asylum. Now he's stuck in the asylum for the sole purpose of experimentation, and everyone he loved either betrayed him or thinks he's run off with the woman of his dreams.
Appearance: Simon normally has long, slicked back light brown hair and thick mutton chops reaching down to about mid-jaw. His eyebrows are thin and dark, perfectly lining his eyes; which are hazel. Simon is average size (5'10) but is well built and muscular.

Yayz! Someone joined! Well, here's my people. I kinda get tired of being evil all the time, too. So this time I'm only doing one evil character this time, and he's not that important.

Name: Viktor Nadel
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Role: Surgeon
Species: Human
Personality: Viktor is twisted and almost completely amoral. He is fascinated by superhuman anatomy and sates this fascination by vivisecting patients while they're conscious. He has no sensitivity for the pain of others and can't seem to comprehend the idea that superhumans have feelings. However, he is easily bribed, especially by the female 'patients', for the obvious reasons.
History: Viktor was always an odd child, torturing and dissecting small woodland animals for larks. It wasn't until his mother was bitten by a vampire that he began to explore mutant anatomy--you see, she couldn't control her bloodlust and attempted to kill her own son, and he had no choice but to stake her in the heart. Once she was dead, he explored her insides as she slowly turned to dust, and has since harbored a sick obsession with solving the mysteries of the supernaturally altered human body.
Appearance: Viktor looks like a typical creepy surgeon, with a long nose, thick spectacles, and a thin, slightly hunched-over frame. His hands are tense with arthritis and his brown hair is graying and thinning.
Preferred Implement of Torture: What's better than a sword and a whip? A WHIPSWORD, that's what. It's really just a whip with a little blade on the end of it. Yeah, when he's performing surgery, he'll use an old rusty scalpel, and the whip's just for keeping the caged crazies in line, but it's more fun to use.

Alright, and now I introduce a nice asylum guard. I know it's been done, but never by me. I'm usually the sadistic one. Well, let's see how I do...

Name: Vittoria Gottschalk
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Role: Guard
Species: Human
Personality: Vittoria is empathetic and kind, going against her supervisors to provide the 'lunatics' extra food, blankets, or just some company in the dead of night. She is a timid woman who will stand down and follow orders if she's ordered gruffly enough, but she has a strong sense of right and wrong and will do anything to keep her charges from suffering unnecessary pain.
History: Vittoria, Viktor's cousin, grew up on the poor side of the family. When she was sixteen, both her parents died of pneumonia, leaving her to provide for her three younger siblings. Without any skills, she was forced to turn to prostitution, until 'gracious' Viktor took her in and offered her a job as a night guard, with proper pay and housing for herself and the little ones. Little did she know, she was making herself an accessory to unspeakable horrors. She feels as trapped as the patients, but she has nowhere else to go, and even if she did, Viktor would keep her around for his own twisted pleasure.
Appearance: Vittoria is a short woman with a slight frame, about 5'2" and 109. She has wavy red hair, pale skin, and sad, brown eyes that always have dark circles from sleepless nights.

Personality: Hayley is very shy, and builds a wall around herself when faced with the prospect of new places or people. Hayley was bought up to hate vampires, but when faced with the prospect of living through pain with them, will she change her ways?

History: Hayley grew up in a small town in the country, where everyone knew everyone. It was such a friendly comuinty, they often held parties in the street and sometimes the farmer would open up his barn and let the childern sleep there and they would tell stories about wovles....
Hayley found out she was a werewolf when she was 14, and she joined the pack that constisted of her brother and her then lover......
Protecting the village was a much bigger job than living in it. For the first time, hayley actually respected the elders for all the work they did. One day, they came, in a white van. The scent was unfamiler and unwelcome so seth, her lover at the time, went up to investigate. As soon as he knocked on the window it opened and serval gun shots were fired, killing seth instantly. Hayley was in such despair, she ran towards the van, convinced that they were going to kill her. But instead, to Hayley's surprise the man got out of the van, and tied her up and gagged her with sickly impressive skill and bundled her into the back of the van. When Hayley woke up she was here in a big cell, filled her vampires.

Mutants are still around...probably laying low, so as not to be tortured or bled to death, developing their powers in secret, forming underground groups, et cetera. Viktor's probably got quite a few dried up, severed tails shoved into his desk drawers. Seeing as the asylum specializes in vampires and werewolves, they're a smaller part of the equation in this one, but I suppose the higher-ups wouldn't be opposed to throwing a mutant or two in with the rest, if one was captured.

I kinda picture the tail as a fifth limb, not furry or anything (sorry furries), and kinda translucent at the tip, so you could see through to the little bones and veins and things. But I'm open to ideas.

Meh, not that it matters much to me, but i always pictured Nightcrawler's tail (X-Men). Whatever though. Just as long as I know what the mutants are doing.

Alrighty, I made a character. Here's my sheet.

Name: Caroline L'moqueur
Age: 112, but appears 30
Gender: Female
Role: Prisoner
Species: Vampire
Personality: Not really caring where her life ends up anymore, Caroline is a prisoner who has accepted her fate and laughs in the face of death. She is mentally unstable and prone to nervous breakdowns, probably one of the only 'lunatics' who is truly mad. In her free life, she was manipulative and flirtatious, and once in a while, she'll still try and see how far she can get with another prisoner or keeper, regardless of gender. She is bold and thinks nothing of speaking her mind, unaware of the consequences. When assaulted and experimented on, she laughs, makes snide remarks, and lets herself get thrown back into the cage to sleep it off.
History: Caroline was born to French aristocrats, who were beheaded during La Revolucion. She fell into poverty, and, without guidance, she had to make her own way in the world. In order to regain her status, she romanced many prominent figures, including the Marquis de Sade. One of her affairs ended in her becoming a vampire, which was just fine with her--sure, the bloodsucking took some getting used to, but the extended life just gave her opportunities to collect inheritance off of her rich old lovers.

Her most recent relationship was obsessive and mutually abusive. She manipulated her lover to the point of breaking the both of them down, and when he showed signs of leaving, she became pregnant with his child to convince him to stay. Throughout her pregnancy, her crazy mood swings prompted her to lash out at him for the slightest things, breaking his bones and later mending his injuries. After she had a miscarriage, she sunk into a depression and slaughtered him, drinking him dry and dismembering and disemboweling him. She was found feeding from his dead body by the local constable, pronounced mad, found out as a vampire, and shipped off to Desperatio.
Appearance: Caroline is blonde, her elaborate curls untended and messy. Her once-beautiful face now looks quite deranged. She is sickly thin, her cheeks are hollowed, and her eyes are wide and twitchy. She wears a tattered black gown and bloody petticoats.
Theme song: I feel like a copycat for using Emilie Autumn, but Liar really works for her.

Personality: Klarissa is good at hiding her many emotions. Before her capture, she would hide behind a wall of flirting and sarcasm. She’s not and has never been evil. She would feed, but never kill, so she was a pretty good vampire (although her victim preference was young girls, so you could debate whether or not she was evil). After being captured, she became dark, sarcastic, and bitter. She now wears a solid poker face, never letting anyone see her pain to avoid giving them satisfaction. She is very self-preservative, willing to do anything to keep herself safe. She is not above using her sexuality to get what she wants.
History: She’s a pureblood vampire, born of the German vampires Traugott and Elsa Nacht. Her father killed her mother on her tenth birthday. He was abusive to her, and when she tried to run away he sold her to Desperatio Asylum.

History: Roaming the world freely, he is a cause of many disappearances. What he does to people can and probably will be revealed later on. Lets let his theme song speak for his character. He does transform but maintains his human cognitive abilities, and human speech.
He is very curious about how humans work and has been known to get under their skin, literally.

Appearance: white skinned human he stands about 4'5". Still has a body, and voice of a child. He has learned how to control his transformations, but when he does transform he is a silver furred 6'8" werewolf.

Name: Nemesis (Legion) Armada
Age: Unknown, looks 24

Race: Werewolf
History: Nemesis was born as a werewolf in a normal town with abnormal parents and friends, until she was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar Disorder and Tourette's Syndrome at a very tender age. Her parents and friends didnt want her to suffer, so they sent her to the Asylum and she has been there ever since. Nemesis speaks in an unusual manner, usually speaking in the first person plural when referring to herself. She suffers from Mania Episodes when she doesnt take her medication and can switch between Nemesis and Legion when she becomes schizophrenic. Legion being her werewolf personality, which only comes out and makes her transform when she isnt on her medication.

Nemesis Personality: Sheltered, calm, collected, shy.
Legion Personality: Ravenous tendency, easily Enraged, harsh, Seductive and aristocratic with her speech and movements.

History: Brooke was changed into a vampire one night when she was leaving her house, her boyfriend left her, screaming, she didn't even look back to see if she was okay or what the other guy was doing to her, through this she became depressed and at some point got dragged to the Asylum, she most likely will never speak to anyone ever again.

Personality: Eve is quiet and shy now. She used to be loud and bold and very flirtaous. She is now quiet from years of bein used and abused. She was never a killer always taking just enough to keep her alive but not enough to kill the victims. She will use her body to keep herself safe at the Asylum.
History: Eve was born to a vampire couple back in the 1600's. Her mom ended up killing her dad and using her daughter. Her mother eneded out pimping Eve out for her own protection. Whenever a vampire hunter came around her mother had her through themselves at them and do whatever she could to please them. When one of the guards offered to but her to take her off her mother's hands her mother jumped at the chance so she was sold to the Asylum by her own mother.
