Karato's Guide to Surviving in the OOC Chat ( )

Postby DemiKara on Fri Sep 03, 2010 2:18 pm

Hey! This is just a quick do and don’t guide for the OOC chat. I know it can be a get confusing, and sometimes you might find people shouting troll at you, or spam at you, and you may end up feeling like a lynch mob is forming about you, but don’t worry. I’m here to help.

So let me jump right in!

We have a small handful of blind users. This means that when you type in all caps, they hear each individual letter. The same with txt talk.

So when you say LETS GO!

The here Ell-ee-tee-sss space gee-oh.

You can see how that might be annoying. And when you say: i c wat u did thar

They hear:

eye cee double-you a tee you did tee atch a are

So as common courtesy we try to make it a habit of avoiding doing either. It gets a bit annoying, fairly quickly.

Accidents happen. Sometimes, you prepare you code in a long line, ready to put the text in it…and then you hit enter. Oops! Accidents happen, just be a bit more careful in the future.

When it comes it great pictures, link them don't show them.

Oh yes! About those links! We have a nifty URL button. Click it, put the url are the equals sign and put some text in between the brackets. Don’t worry. You’ll know what I mean when you click the button.

Oh! Those jokes you tell to your friends all the time are sure to work here, right? Not really. We lose a lot of tone in text, so often what makes a verbal joke funny doesn’t work on a text joke. Watch out for that!

And hey, remember you’re talking to people. You probably don’t like being insulted, made fun of, mocked, or laughed at. Remember, even in jest can hurt people feeling, especially if they don’t know you’re joking.

Most of all, have fun! Go RP! Ask someone in the OOC room to join you, if you think you won’t hit it off in the IC. Most of the times, someone will jump right in.
