Background Information:
Its the year 1374, the year of the Lightning Storms, that you find yourself. For one reason or another, your character is traveling in a land that, for the last year, has beenplagued by fierce lightning storms. This area was once the home of a small, but powerful, humanoid kingdom. Bugbears, ogres, and the like fought wars of conquest, and thrived in what is now wilderness. These all but forgotten kingdoms built tombs, and landmarks in their honor, but now they serve only as landmarks to passing travelers.
Your characters are located in a small area of Faerun, the world that you live in. You may be traveling together, or you may be complete strangers. You decide what defines you, what race you are, what you do, and how you do it. Who knows where your journey could take you, and through what perilous adventures? Remember: Survival is not guaranteed.

This campaign will take our adventures from level one, all the way to level 20, and possibly beyond. If your character dies, you will have the option to create another character and jump back into the Roleplay.

Rules:
1.) Obey all RoleplayGateway rules.
2.) Romance is partially allowed. PG-13, anything past that is not allowed.
3.) In the IC thread stay In Character, as the name suggests. No Out of Character stuff there. Post any questions, advice, etc in the OOC thread.
4.) Please, do not join this D&D Roleplay and then go inactive, or stop posting. We really need activity to keep this rolling, and in D&D this is especially important.
5.) Character Rules are listed below.
6.) Luckily I won’t have to worry about godmodding, or auto-hitting. Do not attempt to control another player’s character though. You can suggest things to them through your character, but don’t control them.
7.) I would like somewhat detailed posts. I know its hard to avoid saying “My character runs up to the goblin and attacks it.” but put some effort in to it. Describe the combat, how you swing your weapon, how you cast your spell, what your character is saying as he does this, etc.

Setting Information:
The backdrop is the Forgotten Realms, but we won’t be getting into very much of that until farther along into the campaign. For the beginning, we will stick to a custom created area, and advance from there. You do not need to know anything about the Forgotten Realms, nor Faerun. It won't influence your character very much, as it only provides the world and the backdrop for your character's life.

Character Creation Information:
(If you are unsure about how to create a Character, scroll down past this section, where I will guide you through the process. For those of you who know how to create a character, do so using these rules)

Ability Scores: We will be using the “Elite Array,” with one change. The new ‘Elite Array’ is 15,14,13,12,10, 9.

Absolutely NO Psionics.

Starting level: 1; create this character just like a brand new character. Follow the guidelines in the Player's Handbook, if you have one.

Playable Races: (Sorry, no subraces of these please. We’ll try to keep this simple in that aspect. Do note what I say about supplement book races below)

Alignment: Any Non Evil. Sorry, but I will not accept an evil character.

Playable Classes: (Supplement book classes will be handled on a case-by-case basis. PM me with the class you wish to play.)
Barbarian: A ferocious warrior who uses fury and instinct to bring down foes.
Bard: A performer whose music works magic-a wanderer, a tale-teller, a jack-of-all trades.
Cleric: A master of divine magic and a capable warrior as well.
Druid: One who draws energy from the natural world to cast divine spells and gain strange magical powers.
Fighter: A warrior with exceptional combat capability and unequaled skill with weapons.
Monk: A martial artist whose unarmed strikes hit fast and hard-a master of exotic powers.
Paladin: A champion of justice and destroyer of evil, protected and strengthened by an array of divine powers.
Ranger: A cunning, skilled warrior of the wilderness.
Rogue: A tricky, skillful scout and spy who wins the battle by stealth rather than by force.
Sorcerer: A spellcaster with inborn magical ability.
Wizard: A potent spellcaster schooled in the arcane arts.

Equipment:
Each class gets its own starting gold. From this, purchase the equipment that you need. Alternatively, you can choose the starting goods in the Player's Handbook class chapter.

They are almost the average listed in the Player's Handbook, some vary. If you have a Supplemental Book class approved by me, use the average starting gold for that class listed in the book.



For Beginners:
There are several things you are going to need to know to get everything out of this Roleplay. I will try to do all of the technical stuff behind the scenes, but there is some ample reading that you should do. If this is a turn off for you, then this might not be the Roleplay for you. I will keep up with your character sheets, but you should too. This will enable you to be able to play your character fully.

I will refer to it several times in this short synopsis of what you should know.

Character Creation:
If you are an absolute beginner, please PM and we can talk about what your character sheet should look like, what you should play, etc. I will guide you through the process of creating a character, and try to make it very painless. (I don’t bite) You can tell me what class and race you wish to be, and I can supply you with all the details, strengths, and weakness of each. Then I will help you in the hard part, choosing skills, abilities, feats, etc for your character. But you get to come up with the biography, and personality for him.

Combat:
Combat is a turn-based process. Each person acts in turn, and then once everyone acts, the round is over, and we proceed to the next round of combat. What you can do during your turn(A round is six seconds, so whatever you can do in 6 seconds): Free Actions-Things that take very little time to do. Like shouting to your friends for instance. You can virtually do as many as these as you want; Standard Action-You can do one of these per turn. An attack is one such example; Move Action- You can move your character’s speed once per turn or something similar like drawing a weapon. You can do both a standard action and a move action in one turn. There are also ‘full round actions’ that take up the entire span of a round for your character(These are relatively Uncommon). Your task is to tell me what you’re character is going to do. And I will do the necessary rolling, etc and return the result to you.

Skills:
Skills are basically anything that you can do in real life. All you need to do is tell me what you want your character to do, and I will make the necessary rolls, etc.

Save this to your computer, and then you can edit it using free adobe acrobat reader. Some calculations are automatic, so its much handier than doing it by hand. I prefer this method of sending me your official sheet. You can add a file in the PM, so this is a very handy method. You can also upload an attachment when posting replies, I’m unsure how well that works however. For beginners, I will either help you do this, or do it for you and PM you your sheet.

You do not need to do the above. Look at my post below for the exact details, but this way is a lot easier than attempting to download that character sheet and then send it to me. This post is located here.

We won’t always be doing combat. There will be a multitude of different type encounters, and plenty of roleplaying encounters. You’ll be able to develop your characters, and go off and do things that the party wishes to do in game. However, there is a main storyline, and we’ll be doing a lot of adventures that are in the storyline. Please try to play your characters the way they would behave, even if it goes against your better judgement. If you do play your character well, there could be Rewards!

If I have been vague in any of the above, please post and ask for clarification. I will gladly edit this post with more information, and let you know that it has been updated.

You know, for a while now I was thinking about how a *real* D&D campaign could be integrated into RPG. I'm going to join to see how this goes. I'll get to work on my sheet and have it to you tomorrow.

This is just the thing I've been looking for, since none of my friends can really get into a D&D campaign. Hopefully everyone that joins will stick with it, or at least leave properly.

I'm assuming you forgot to put half-elves up there. I hope you did, cause it would be a bummer to redo my whole sheet.

Loche Stratien (Lock Straight-ian)

Biography: Loche was born in a monestary in a remote valley far from heavily populated areas. His mother was a traveler, an human whose father went from town to village and sold/bought what he could to stay alive. When they were attacked by goblins heading into the valley, Loche's father, a elven monk, led a rescue and saved her and most of her family and friends. As her family moved on, she decided to stay with the monks, and as the monestary technically had no laws against marriage, she became the monk's wife.

Loche was born soon after, and grew up under the strict disciplines of the monestary's occupants. However, he did not resent being born into such a lifestyle, on the contrary he reveled in it's subtle ways of life and application of wisdom. He spent everyday in the monotonous routine of a monk, and was taught to focus his mind to reject all distractions and temptations, as well as harden his body to resist sickness and physical danger.

As part of Loche's official initiation into the monestary's Brotherhood, he had to choose to live under a vow of sacrifice. What these vows entailed were usually up to the individual monk so long as the Fathers approved, and ranged from a vow of silence and chastity to servitude and chivalry. Loche chose a vow of pilgrimage, to never rest, nor set foot on the land of his birth until he had obtained true enlightenment through his travels. The Fathers approved, and Loche set forth shorty after.

Personality: Loche is quiet, reserved, and meek. He will rarely speak to others unless spoken to, and never impose himself on annother's kindness. However, his silence in the face of kindness gives others the impression that he is rude and ungrateful, and will generally cause many missunderstandings.

His monistic lifestyle is a farcry from how the rest of the world acts: his day to day life is very regimented, eating, sleeping, and meditating at very presice times of the day. In addition to this, all monks of his order are sworn to poverty as well as non-agressiveness (With the exception of monks like his father who take a vow a chivalry). He will not harm any living creature unless it is in self defence.

Appearance: Loche has light brown eyes and bright copper hair that is maintained at about an 2 inches long. He is well built, and maintains his physique through daily excercise as well as sparring combat whenever he gets the chance. His clothes are normally grey and haggard, but still sturdy and form fitting. He will normally wrap his hands and feet in cloth, and will always wear a monk's robe given to him by his order, which is white with a hood and opens down the front.

I dunno about anyone else, but that link causes my browser to completely freeze up, causing me to have to restart it. And I obviously can't view the sheet, either...

Well it didn't cause my computer to freeze up, but it did tell me I can't download it...
Maybe we could just take screenshots of the completed file and post the links here? (Although that doesn't really help with not being able to view the unused sheet....)
But yeah, I'm going to give that a try if I'm aloud to join.
Also, I know this might be a little silly or something, but could you please post a few more example of what Full Round and Standard Actions are? I suppose they might just be the same actions you can take in one turn during non-text D&D, but I'd just like to be sure... (More so about what isn't a Standard Action.)

Edit: Okay, strike the above about screenshots. What would you prefer I do Krogen? I suppose I could just fill it out there and then type it all out here, but that might take a while and not come out the same way... Or I could do the screenshot-thing.

The Character sheet part is the hardest challenge that we face. Since the files seem to be too large to PM to me, or to post as an attachment we're in a bit of a 'pickle.'

Screenshots could work very well, and I would just copy that information into my own character sheet for your character. I was, however, able to download and view SlowlyCrazyIAmGoing's character sheet.

Which link were you guys referring to as not working? Mine, or Crazy's?

More about Actions!
A full round action would be something like 'Full Attack,' and some spells take a full round to perform. There are also full round special abilities, and if you attempt to withdraw from combat, this is a full round action (That way you can't attack then run away.) But withdraw doesn't just mean flee, it could be move from one enemy to another during combat. Free Actions are things like dropping an item, dropping to the ground prone, Cease concentration on a spell, or cast a quickened spells (Which you need a special feat for). Standard Actions consist of a normal attack, casting a normal spell, feints, 'Total Defense,' Using a skill during combat, sundering an object or armor via an attack, Dismiss a spell, and bull rush. On page 141 of the Player's Handbook there is a good list of examples for each of the different types of actions. If you don't have one; here is a link. On the page, ignore the text thats on the left, and look only at the tables on the right. You will have to scroll a bit, since they aren't grouped together just like the Player's Handbook, but they are all there.

An easy way to get around our character problem, You can, however, still make a 3.5e official Character sheet if you like. However, you can use this format to make one. It would contain all the necessary information.

Definitely be able to create another character.

Probably not. There is a chance we could when the characters reach a much higher level, but that is a maybe right now. In the beginning, you won't see any one like that.

he thing about having 5 hp is that if you reach zero you don't die... you're only knocked out. However, if you have at most -1 HP, you are dying and lose 1 hp every turn until someone stabilizes you by making a heal check, then you stop losing HP. It is only when you reach -10 HP that you die, and there are RARE cases of ADVANCED clerics bringing back the dead in exchange for ALOT of money/experience.

I know all that, Slowly. I've played the game for two years now. I only asked because death is a very real possibility for my character. Any blow that deals 15 or more points of damage will one-shot her. At this level, that kind of damage is most likely due to a critical hit, but fighting an ogre isn't out of the realm of possibility either. And for being a 3rd Level monster, they hit like Mac Trucks.

alright, seeing as how we should probably be working together, i am currently working on a human fighter, to be in the front lines to protect the mages in the back

Regardless, if you stay BEHIND a good party and AWAY from everything that does 15 damage in one hit then your'e fine. If you play your class well (and I'm not saying you won't) and others play their's well too (no promises) then 5 HP won't matter.

extremely long hair, which is strangely enough, very well kept. Roy also dons a lengthy beard, for fear he might kill himself while shaving (also very well kept). his hair is bright orange with streaks of a darker red. he has grossly pale complexion, and has a beer gut. he is naturally a big man, and is always laughing or giggling about something. he is always seen wearing layers of warm clothing, even in the most temperate of climates. another item he is always seen with, is ale. it could be in a waterskin, a clay pot, a flask, a mug, even the skull of a fallen enemy; it doesn't matter to Roy so long as it has booze in it. sometimes he is even seen with booze in one hand in the midst of a fight.

Biography and/or Personality:
Roy is first and foremost, a drunkard. secondly, he always thinks he is freezing for some odd reason, and is usually found wearing cold weather clothes. he is extremely loyal, although his gruff nature usually sends people in the other direction. in combat, he is faster than his alcohol usually permits him to be, and quick to defend any of his comrades, despite his condition. because of being perma-drunk, he usually has no idea what he is saying or doing (hence the low charisma lol). Depending on who is near, Roy's 'antics' can be seen as hilarious, or anger people around him. some people say he was born of a drunken woman in a bar, but there is no merit to this legend. Roy can't remember where he came from, partially to do with the injuries associated with barfighting, and partially to do with his large consumption of alcohol. all he remembers is that it was a cold place; probably why he wears such warm clothes. when he has found a person he likes, he will attempt to defend their honor at all times, regardless of if it needs defending. he is always cheery, and always seems to get in other people's personal space, attempting to tell a story; most of the time they don't even make sense. boasting about his sword which he cherishes (and named Clarice) is a hobby he can't get enough of. he also enjoys throwing things and setting things on fire(most likely in an attempt to keep warm)
