Rayn ran through the streets of Hollocity. Unlike most boys, Rayn had to grow up pretty early in life. Heartless were constantly overrunning the city, turning it into a dark and ruined version of what it used to be (Just picture a post apocolyptic Gotham City that's overrun by Heartless and you got Hollocity). Rayn had to learn to fight for life itself since he was about 9 or 10. At that age, his dad was finally killed by Heartless. Since his mother was killed years before, this left Rayn to fend for himself.
Rayn was being chased by some heartless. He didn't have anything to fight back with, and using one's fists was never a good idea. He wished Dragonheart would appear like it usually did when Rayn was in trouble. Dragonheart had once been used by Rayn's dad, but ever since the heartless got him, the keyblade had occasionally appeared to Rayn himself when he was deep trouble. Now was one of those times, but no Dragonheart, "C'mon ya stupid keyblade! Where are you?" he shouted as he ducked into an alley.
The heartless around here didn't seem to follow anyone in particular. They seemed to just wildly run in packs like wolves or hyenas or something. It wasn't natural, that was for sure. As Rayn tried rounding another corner in the allies it began to rain. The heartless weren't on his tail but Rayn could hear them trying to find him. Why were they so intent on killing Rayn? Was it because of Dragonheart? Speaking of the keyblade, why wasn't it coming to Rayn when he really needed it?
Rayn had ducked into a dumpster and slammed the lid over himself, "Leave me alone already..." he whispered softly as the heartless rounded the corner and stopped, wondering where Rayn had disappeared to, "Come on... don't find me... just go away..." Rayn mouthed as he tried to slow his heavy breathing from all the running. Of course, things would be different if Dragonheart would just appear. If only that keyblade were here, Rayn would have stood and fought from the get-go. But so far, nothing. "Remind me to find someone to teach me about keyblades..." he whispered to himself as he peaked outside.
The heartless had apparantly moved on, figuring that perhaps Rayn had ducked into an alley, "Whew..." said Rayn as he climbed out of the dumpster, "Pretty stinky... but it worked." he said looking at his hiding place. He glared at his hand as if angry at it, "Stupid keyblade... never around when I..." just then, Dragonheart appeared in his hand, "Oh sure... now you show up." he said, practically yelling at the keyblade. With no one else to talk to, Rayn found himself talking to inanimate objects like the keyblade or the dumpster he'd just climbed out of. Was he going crazy?
Then heard them, "Oh no..." the heartess were coming back. Probably heard him yelling at the keyblade and came bounding back, looking at Rayn with those savage yellow eyes, "I'm not running this time!" Rayn said, holding Dragonheart in a ready stance, "Bring it on, heartless!" he said as they charged at him.
The first one lept and tried to hit Rayn high, while another was going for Rayn's legs. An old tactic, and one Rayn could easily escape from. When Rayn attacked the airborn heartless, he simply jumped, allowing himself to jump over the low-attacker. The keyblade was lashed out in a horizontal arc at the airborn heartless, cutting the brute in half. The one on the ground skidded to a halt and turned around. The other 2 that hadn't moved yet, now closed in on Rayn. This was the only drawback to Rayn's strategy... he was now surrounded.
They all leaped at once.
Rayn only knew one tactic to survive, "Fira!" he cast the spell at the two and managed to get them on a cluster hit. Then he quickly brought the keybade into a samurai-style slash to kill the last one, "That's what ya get for attacking a dragon!" he said triumphantly as Dragonheart vanished. When Rayn's dad was killed, a heartless had managed to scratch his right eye, leaving blindness and a scar. Rayn's headband then began serving double as an eye patch, and when he discovered he could use Dragonheart, called himself the One-Eyed Dragon, or sometimes just the Dragon.
If God is so perfect, then why are his creations so imperfect?
