Yep - will do. You could still keep the fact that she had parents, bearing in mind that she is silver-haired and they allow human/Sagar-Morwen matings; it would also give the green-haired Sagar-Morwen a reason to kill her parents. Two females can 'pair' when one of them carries an asexual child to help bring up the offspring once it's born. :)

Possibly. But it's not that important since it won't play any role in the RP anyway, so let's skip the history and get to pos- oh wait nvm still at page 3 :X Posted.

Oh and thanks for putting the info on the first post.
Look down and see her ruined places
Smoke and ash still rising to the sky
She's happy that you're here but when you disappear
She won't know that you're gone to say goodbye

Lovely first post. :D And no worries about the info: I thought it was about time I neatened up the intro post anyway.

Now all I've got to do is wait for my legion to post (though I may post once more in the meantime). I really hope you haven't all left... that'd be twice I lost a legion now... :(

December's always been a busy month. Plus, there's always the pm option, not everyone bookmarks threads or uses the 'view your posts-option'. Wouldn't worry too much about it just yet.

Hopefully you're right (goodness knows, I'm busy enough as it is at the moment, lol). :) Out of about 20 or 30 roleplays I've created or joined, only one of them has ever finished, so I'm not too worried if it does crash and die; it'd just be sad because of the effort that everyone's put in. But hey, it's only been a couple of days: I've had RPs start up again after 2 weeks of no posting before! And like you said, as a last resort I could always PM people but I'll wait a bit longer before I do that, I think. Patience, SW... patience... ;) In the meantime, I have plenty of other stuff to do... *cringes*

Yeah and I'm partially responsible for that ;x (Really should remove that link from my signature) I'll try to continue my post later this week (which reminds me I still have to find a reason why Naradei can possibly get involved with dragon riders). But yeah, Chris Rea and Mariah Carey resound through every building, materialism becomes a daily subject, ugly ornaments and conifers are spread throughout the streets and gardens, and family fights have roared up once again. Thank God it's Christmas!

Well, actually that's going to become an issue the coming two weeks, right now I'm finishing stuff for college and making plans for the holidays. I'm not resigning, just saying it'll be a bit... slow.

No worries: this RP seems to be running a bit slow anyway. :) And as I said to my flat mate last week "it's not Christmas until I wake up with my s/o on the 25th" (like yourself, I've got a load of work to do :( )!

Well, the only way for the mages of Wordonat to get to Armiekai is by boat and actually the shortest route to the coalition is past a major green-haired Sagar-Morwen colony called Nactala (a collection of rocks upon a shelf between the SW coast of Wordonat and the NE coast of Armiekai). It's quite possible that they would come into contact with the mages pretty quickly. In my novel (which is actually the future culmination of this war), the green-haired Sagar-Morwen side with the mages (through a powerful mage called Gwendolyn - who I have to say isn't around yet) and turn against their silver-haired brethren in the process, who side with the other races (in the book, mostly the mortals and the Stars). So it's up to you what you want to do here (seeing as the RP is kinda like a prequel) but I thought I'd give you a glimpse of foresight anyway. :)

And honestly, don't worry if this thing does die... as much as I'd like to keep it going, I'm trying to balance it with uni work at the moment anyway...

Just a quick summary to prevent confusion; Until I can get a solid interaction with some PC's, unlikely to be very soon, I'm going to use Naradei's sisters for communication. They're not full-fledged RP-characters, but yeah... Still felt the need to flesh them out a little to prevent confusion (and because I just made this for myself and a c/p doesn't take up a lot of time does it?)

Silicai, oldest sister of the five. Bossy, cranky, demands a lot of respect and possibly the most violent and aggressive Sagar-Murwen you'll ever see. Even though she has never been very docile, she used to hold a relatively calm attitude in the vicinity of her sisters. Her mother entrusted her with the care of the family when she died (Naradei wasn't her own child), but Silicai can't deal with it very well. That and it appears she has been starting to show symptoms of the same disease her mother killed. She is very scared of this and it doesn't do her temper any good.

Naradei, second-oldest of the sisters. RP character. Is the one who's actually 'caring' for the family.

Thites, middle sister. Silent, background figure. Very adapt with poisons and alchemy which dominate her head and demand most of her every-day attention. She's the most cunning and fickle of the family. Pretty much ignored by Silicai and Undani because she's so silent, Naradei tends to give some talk to her, though the two usually can't keep a conversation up long. Mostly sticks with Menecly.

Menecly, like Thites, she's rather silent. But unlike her sister, she's not continuously thinking about something, but lost in these thoughts. She's rather insecure and a bit of a crybaby. Menecly tends to be the target to blame when things go wrong. Not to mention she's rather clumsy herself.

Undani, energetic, quick to act, naive and stubborn. A typical brat with her heart on her tongue. She sees the world through her own perspective and is particularly defensive about this. She's very quick to judge and possibly even faster to talk about what bothers her. But even though she doesn't like to accept it, Undani's not always right, far from, actually.

And now back to the post!
Posted.

EDIT: Just a few things. I assumed they are like dolphins, being mammals that live in the water, explaining their sleeping habits (underwater) and their underwater vision (sonar). Which is elaborated (a little) in the IC post. If it's a wrong assumption, tell me and I'll change it.

That's lovely Kestrel: you're kinda hitting this whole thing spot on. :D Shame it's slowing down so much. I'll give it a couple more days and then I'll PM people. :)

Hm right. Now I don't know much about 'em mages specifically (Reading the IC only gave me so-much info) and their relation to the other races, but the plan is to make use of them (it's either that or pulling unfitting deux es machinas) to get Naradei in the main story (because hey, roleplays are about interaction).

So could you provide me with some information? PM'ing is also a possibility if you want to keep the enemy 'alien' to the dragonriders.

Bear with me and I'll see what my little brain can concoct (I have to rummage around their past a bit as most of what I've focussed on is based on the book which involves a few important characters that aren't around yet). :)

I'll edit this post once I've come up with summut. Actually, it'll be nice to have it here so that the dragon riders all conform correctly (most riders should know about the mages either through being there in the last war or through history lessons).

Hopefully I'll have it up in about half an hour. :D

Here we go then:

The Mages of Syannath

Syannath: Syannath is a mage college on Wordonat – and though there are others – it is also the most prominent. Founded by the mage, Ronnath, in the Third Age (the third century since the dragons came and the one before the present century), the college started out initially as a select guild in which membership was only offered to those mages of the highest callibre. These mages were then let into the secret of Ronnath’s extensive power: the leaching – and thus pilfering – of magic from other beings, both mortal and immortal. Some say Ronnath was actually Surinder’s corporeal form in light of his unscrupulous methods of gaining power solely for his own desires; it was never known – and still isn’t – whether this rumour had any truth, for Ronnath died only thirty years after he founded his guild in a fire that destroyed most of the extensive manor that the society occupied. Syannath was rebuilt at the end of the Third Age by the remaining members - becoming a vast citadel that made itself the centre piece of the small village that the college was named after – and by the start of the Fourth Age, students were already being taken in and Ronnath was beginning to gain an almost God-like status, only re-affirming the belief that he had been Surinder’s ‘mortal’ form on Cirrian. All those living in the college and the village are very xenophobic, and any ship – merchant or pirate alike – is accompanied by a single mage from Syannath, to ensure secrets stay that way.

The Mages: The students of Syannath – like their guild ancestors – are only accepted into the college by invitation and have to undergo severe testing before they can be allowed to study. Though the methods are unknown, it is clear that the mages are taught some means of leaching magic from being into a vessel that stores the magic until it can be divided evenly. It has been noted that this means of gaining power is critically flawed: no mages live to more than fifty years of age, though the average lifespan is a lot less due to the high amount of rivalry that is encouraged within the college itself. The only time the mages have been seen to co-operate is during periods of war or when there is an attempt to gain magic from a superior being (the dragons, the Stars or the Sagar-Morwen). All mages are adept spell-casters ranging anywhere from elemental to necrotic magics. Rather than having healers, each mage is taught enough to heal their own minor wounds and those unable to survive more fatal injuries simply become no more than fodder for the scavengers. Mages of Syannath (or at least those that have accomplished a decent status) wear robes of deep purple overlain by an enormous, enveloping, hooded cloak that is black lined with a bright purple silk: mostly to hide their outward appearence, giving the impression that all the mages look the same. Both males and females are accepted, though it is often hard to tell which is which due to the latter comment. Those studying in Syannath even go so far in their xenophobia as to have their own language – Dohmnall – which is taught solely to those mages attending the college; this is again to ensure that secrets among the college stay secret – even to those in the village.

I'll also add this to the intro post on the first page for everyone. I may (if this doesn't pick up in a few days), start the RP again and allow anyone to join as any of the races, though I want to add detail to the descriptions before I do that. We shall see. Are you ok if I do that, Kestrel? You've obviously put a lot of effort into your posts, it's just a shame that this thing has virtually died just as you joined. :(

-------------------------------

Seeing as this RP has basically died, I've set up the same topic as a new interest check but that allows people to play more than just the dragons and riders. If you fancy continuing this topic but as a different race, then hop on in to the interest thread here: http://www.roleplaygateway.com/where-magic-power-and-the-stars-are-the-gods-t15293.html. Also, if you know of anyone who might find this interesting then let them know! :D
