OOC: Sorry for the slow reply on this.

A hectic rush of footsteps battered heavily into the sodden earth leaving behind a trail that would, if there were more men, have undeniably led to a great victory or immense travesty. But alas only two men were in the marshes today, one a head taller and nearly a man heavier than the other and the first to initiate combat. He was well versed in close quarters combat, having dealt with war since a young age bloodshed was comparable to chores. His sword was drawn as he began to run, the metal rings of his mail ringing as the mesh doubled over itself with every extension of his body, and held adjacent his body the point towards the horizon prepared for a horizontal slash at the foes bare chest or if necessary to parry a blow from his unique weapons. Shield head ahead and acting as a plow guarding and pushing away any ranged attacks from the smaller man, which at this time was still more than 60 paces away, meant that Gerval's obvious disadvantage in ranged combat wouldn't readily be as devastating as his first strike. If everything followed fates plans he would charge into the foe, avoiding any damage from his javelins and slamming the button of the shield upwards and into the gut of the gladiator. Were this tactic to fail, due to a preemptive strike from the gladiator Gerval would then parry the blow, sacrificing momentum for safety, as he tried to use the shield and what momentum remaining in his charge to unsteady his adversary.

(OOC: It's cool, Im busy too.)

It was damn cold. And it was damn wet. The area was a terrible place to fight, almost a swamp in it's excessive wetness. Small hillocks of earth and pockets of grass providing the only alternitive to wet muddy slime. To top it off the day was just getting colder. All in all a poor place for a battle; so there was one. It had raged on and off over this sad chunk of land for generations, no one wanted it per say, but the idea of someone ELSE having it was just to much. So there was battle.

Watching the large man run, wincing at near-misses of foot over root, splashes into nasty water crawling with who knew what, was Nox. The gap was closing, but it hardly mattered. It was like watching a rhino rush at a gazel. You knew if that lil bastard didn't move he was doomed, but that gazel just kept munchin grass. Standing on one of the few and far between patches of grass, all limbered up from hopping from dry spot to dry spot just to get here, Nox regards the charging warrior. Sword out, shield down..impressive, but slow.

The land itself would slow the charging man, uneven terrain...water...roots and such. It would serve as a deterent against such moves in the future. The man's weight also would slow him quite a bit, every step into watery mud threatening to be his last as the rotting vegatative goo was pressed under pounds and pounds of angry man. Each step would require the oppnent to strain..pulling his foot free with a wet suck...and send it out again for more running.

Weight was something Nox didn't worry about. Dressed lightly, though it was a bit COLD, his weight was easily supported by the clumps of grass and soft earth scattered about. To prove this, while still quite a bit away from the other man, Nox would do a simple cartwheel over and away to the left, pressing off with one powerfully toned leg, to press a carfuly placed hand on an exposed clump of dirt, springing over further to land on a seperate chunk of stone poking out of the muck.

The movement took but a moment, and already placed even more distance between the two fighters. Going from the estimated 60 paces to about 75. Not much, but it showed that if the huge man wanted to run..he would be doing it for a bit. Running in this muck would cost Gerval stamina, no doubt he would tire quickly sloshing about in this horrible swamp. His own gear weighing on him, mud sucking at each step, it was going to be a long day for the big man.

Just to be safe, as Nox tended to like to be, he would draw one of his lances, the round shaft of a pilum gripped in his hand comfotably. The guard, placed at the mid-point of the weapon allowed for it's use as a melee weapon, though with a twist and snap could be removed easily. Keeping the guard in place for now Nox watches the other man, sending out a shrill whistle to indicate his place, "That mud looks rather cold." he would comment, bouncing the pole in the palm of his hand to test it's weight. "Hell of a place to fight, eh?"
