Life in the City ( )

Life in the City
It's complicated...

Hello, and welcome to the roleplay, Life in the City. This is a roleplay brought to you by Isaiah, a former roleplaygateway roleplayer, whom joined back in 2008. This is my second time returning to the site, wanting to try forum roleplay again.

This roleplay takes place in the current year, 2009, and in the large city (made up) named Sytho-City, pronoounced Sith-oh Sit-ee. It's an extremely large town, but its not very populated. Most of the town is just a large construction area, never messed with. Basically, it's a city without the city. It requires people to help build and populate it, which is where we come in. We are one in the few to lve here in Sytho-City, and we are responsible for it's construction. The only buildings currently in the town is the apartment complex, where we all live, a small school, a few small businesses, and a swimming hole. Not much to do here but work, and whenever we're not working, we're swimminng or we're busy at school. So; I invite you all to take part in the construction of Sytho-City and welcome Life in the City with open arms.

Now, let me explain a few things.

The Businesses

There are only three small businesses in Sytho-City, ready to expand and sell; and here is what we have.

The Bakery
- Owner: Sally Burlington (RPC)
The Bakery is responsible for selling fresh baked goods such as bread, donuts, and other delicious treats. It's a small business and extremely comfortable, but with the lack of money, it's having trouble keeping up with the demand of the customers, even though there's only a few. A lot of the citizens wish the Bakery would expand into a cafe, or something more welcoming to everyone and also a fun place to be at.

The Grocery
- Owner: [ Vacant ]
The Grocery is where everyone and everything get's what they need to survive. It supplies general food, furniture, and other neccesities that others not only need, but want. It's a popular teen hangout even though it's only a store, most kids like the enviroment, and hang out with the owner and manager.

The Tool Shed
- Owner: Ted Turner [NPC]
The Tool Shed is the city's repair business, responsible for everything like construction; auto repair; and plumbing. Nobody goes here unless they have to, and I don't blame the, the place smells bad.

Sadly... the city doesn't even have a hospital yet, it's something that needs to be constructed, quickly.

Name: Matthias Aeren Marcai
+ Age: 24
+ Gender: Male
+ Height: 6'4"
+ Weight: 230

+ Sexual Orientation: Straight
+ Blood Type: O
+ Zodiac: Sagittarius
+ Birthdate: December 2nd, 1984
+ Occupation: Construction Worker, as of now.

+ Physical Description: Image

+ Personality Description: Matthias has a broad range of personalities, mostly depending on the situation. Sometimes, he is shy, introspective, and quiet. Other times, he is loud, humorous, and talkative. Again, all depending on the situation. However, as a native Saelari (Read below.), he always acts out of a sense of duty and honor. He tries to respect everyone he meets, even if he does not want to. He is always very loyal to those he befriends, and would stick with them to the end.

+ Inventory: Matthias, when not working, is usually dressed in a white dress shirt with the two top buttons unbuttoned, worn, dark-blue jeans, and black basketball shoes. However, like his personality, this is likely to change depending on the situation. He also carries with him a black leather wallet, a platinum wristwatch, and a platinum, chain necklace. However, he never speaks of the necklace. Whenever asked about it, he simply responds with a shrug.

+ History: Matthias comes from a (Fictional) island-nation in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, called Saelar. Saelar is much like Ancient Sparta, in that it's men are brought up to be loyal, honorable, obedient, and, above all, respectful. He was raised in this environment until the age of eighteen, when he moved to the United States. However, he has had trouble melding into the American way of life. For one, he originally didn't speak English. The people of Saelar speak (Creatively enough.) Saelar-Ai. Secondly, he couldn't wrap his head around the fact that American people wanted to get paid for working for the betterment of their community, and still doesn't. In Saelar, you worked, as stated, for the betterment of the community and, through that, the country as a whole. However, Matthias has done the best he can to meld into America, and came to Sytho-City to do just that.

+ Physical Description:

Image

+ Personality Description:
Xaio is extremely hyper, although he looks like depressing emo kid with absolutely no life outside of his poetry. Xaio despises stereotyping and he despises poetry, thinking that others (like him) are obsessed with only poetry. He likes to have fun a lot, and also tends to hang out at the grocery store, with all of his friends. He inherits his money from his deceased grandparents and is actually extremely rich, but nobody knows that. He doesn't brag about his money and could actually care less that he has it.

+ Inventory:

[] Basic Clothes []
[] Wallet []
[] iPhone []
[] MP3 Player []
[] Backpack []
[] Art Supplies []

+ History:
Xaio is one of the richest people in Sytho-City but doesn't flaunt it like a greedy prince or noble. Nobody even knows of his inheritance but they can only assume he gets his stuff from family. He lives in the apartment building like everybody else does, and he usually likes it to be quiet in his room, except during his parties. He enjoys to paint, especially abstract, and also enjoys to party with his friends and hang at the grocery store.

+ Weight: 210
+ Sexual Orientation: Straight
+ Blood Type: AB
+ Zodiac: Libra/scorpio
+ Birthdate: October 23rd

+ Physical Description:
Far right, minus the tattoos
Image

+ Personality Description: Ted is hard to explain, if he could be summed up in one word it would be metalhead. He is a big drinker, no hard liquors just mostly beer. Hes a nice enough guy, really easy to get along with. Hes a bit slow but when you catch him on a thoughtful day he could be one of the most smartest people you know (except in math).

+ Inventory: Knife (the folding kind), MP3 Player, Wallet. He dresses simply, black jeans, band shirt, boots. He isn't one for dressing up all fancy.

+ History: Since the age of 14 Ted has been a devout metalhead. He plays some guitar (rhythm), and is an avid Audio Technician. His neighbors often complain of his loud music that goes on until the wee hours of the morning. Hes pretty much a broke, beer drinking, metalhead. The only ting he doesn't like about where he lives is that bands don't frequent it.

Xaio stepped out from his small apartment, with his headphones jotted into his ears. He was listening to his favorite band, Panic! at the Disco. He moved down the wide hallway towards the stairs where he met up with his druggy friend, Rick Snider. Rick was an extremely thin person, with ghoulish hands and bags under his eyes... a clear sign of the drugs. He tried to deny doing it, and he didn't do it around Xaio, but Xaio knew he does it.

They both walked down the stairs and left the apartment buildings, slumping down the sidewalk. It kinda semmpt like they were in the middle of nowhere with all of the space in their city but no buildings, cars, or anything else. It would be a perfect place for, let's say, a bomb test site. Nobody liked to think like that, but they did. Xaiop was no acception to it either.
"What if we just blew up out of nowhere?" Xaio asked, looking towards his friend.
"Dude! Don't think like that! Seriously, you know how some people are around here." Rick scolded Xaio, flicking him with two fingers.
"You're right. Hey! Let's go over to the grocery store for a bit, maybe get some cancer sticks." Xaio suggested, and they both climbed on his cycle (motorcycle) and drove down the street.

Ted sat in his busted up old car in front of the grocery store, his car shaking with the violent sounds of one of his favorite bands, exodus. The parking lot was pretty empty, it always was at this time. This whole damn city was a desolate, dusty, construction site. But when the construction was done it would thrive so they promised. He didn't have much to do today, pick up a 6 pack of Budweiser, go get some doughnuts, some coffee, then...do nothing, and wait for someone to call about a job. He got out of his car and leaned against the front of it, his arms crossed. He tapped his foot to the rhythm of the song, and waited for the grocery store to open.
"Fuck man, I want some beer!" he shouted half to himself, and half to the grocery store. He had a habbit of personifying things.

He pulled his beanie more down over his head, he usually never wore anything on his head but this town got cold in the mornings. he continued to tap his foot to the song "Raze", while desperatly looking around for the owner of the grocery store. If he wasn't here soon he would just bail and go for some doughnuts.
"COME ON BEER MAN OPEN UP!" He shouted, hoping the grocer was somewhere inside.

Walking towards the grocery store doors were Xaio and Rick, who noticed the man standing there complaining about beer. They noticed the man and recognized him to be Ted, a drunk. He was at the store at this time about everyday, and th eonly thing he didn't know is that the grocery store was already open. Rick worked there part-time and now was his shift.

The approached the man from the back and Xaio shouted,
"Hey, idiot! The shop's open! It has been all day..."

They continued to walk and stepped past the man, walking to the large glass doors. They wouldn't budge. Then they took a close look inside, and noticed that something was wrong.

Ted turned around and gave the guy a funny look then looked back at the store. There was a long pause. The store had been open. He watched the two walk towards the door, and when the door didn't open he cursed to himself
"Well if there open then why the hell are the doors not opening, did that jagaloon forget to turn um on or something?" He said half jokingly. He glared at the emo lookin' kid, and his emaciated friend. He had seen them before, he didn't mind them, they never really gave him any problems.
"Hey don't you live where I live?" he said as he stared at the guy with kind of a blank expression on his face, the music from his car still blaring.

Sally had been up for hours, baking the daily donuts. She loved baking, but hated getting up so early to provide just donuts for a few dozen people. She sighed and took the last batch out and slid it under the glass counter that kept them warm for a few more hours. She quickly washed her hands and flipped her hair back then pulled it into a losse bun. SHe walked over to the door and unlocked it then flipped the sign around that clearly said "OPEN". She smiled a bit then went and sat down in the chair behind the cash register. She got tired of standing the whole day so she sat around when she could. She waited listening to the background music of her bakery. slightly humming along and tapping her foot with the beat.

Ted waved his hand dismissively at the door, and walked back towards his car, music still blaring
"Luckly I think ahead, and I keep a beer or two for on the road! Smart!" he said as he roared out of the parking lot, disturbing the morning peace before the construction started. He pulled up infront of the "doughnut hut" as he called it, despite the fact that it was a bakery, and it sold other things. He left his car running and music blaring and walked into the doughnut hut.
"Whatsup doughnut lady? Gimme one of those brown covered long ones, and a cup of coffee, straight up, oh and for the coffee do you mind only filling it up half way?" He asked as he leaned on the display glass and eye balled each and every doughnut.

Rick and Xaio continued to stand there, watching the building. Something was very wrong. They walked around the back to the staff parking lot and saw no car there. They had no idea what was going on.
"What do you suppose we should do?" Xaio asked with displeasure.
"Well, I have a spare key, so let's open up ourselves." Rick suggested, shuffling his hands into his pockets.
He flipped out a small chain of keys and walked up to the door, snapping it down and unlocking it. Then they both entered.

Upon entering, Xaio flipped on the lightswitches, which caused bright lights to flicker on throughout the store. Atleast it still had power. The two then moved over to the desk, to put some stuff up and prepare for opening, but they were shocked with what they saw. The current owner of the shop, Velmont Patrickson, was lying on the ground dead. He had three bulletholes in his chest and stomach, and a trail of blood that led from the freezers to his current location. "He..H-he, was murdered?" Xaio stuttered a bit, moving back.
"It looks like it. We gotta get out of here, and tell an adult." Rick grabbed onto Xaio's sleeve, and dashed out of the store.

They then leapt on the back of Xaio's cycle, started it, and drove down the road. They stopped shortly afterward when approaching the bakery. They got off and both ran inside, yelling to everyone there, "QUICK! MISTER PATRICKSON IS DEAD!" And they came to a hault when everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at them strangely.

Sally laughed a bit at the fact that he called her the doughnut lady. she then just smiled politely and said "good morning" back to him, then nodded and got him his doughnut and coffee that was only half full she placed the doughnut that was now in a little package type thing and his coffee on the glass counter making it fog up a bit, then she went to the cash register and said "that will be $5.47"

When they came into her bakery yelling she just looked at them for a moment and then finally came from behind the counter and said "are you alright?" she wasn't sure to believe them, or if it was just a prank that the young kids played every so often.

Ted watched the two frenzied people from the grocery store come running in. He thought for a minute
"WAIT! Beer guys dead?! aww brutal!" he said only half concerned. He took advantage of doughnut lady not being behind the counter and only put $5 there, he chuckled to himself at his great victory of saving $.47. He cracked open the budweiser he was holding in his hand and poured it into his coffee, he took a large gulp then a bite if the doughnut. "Good shit" he said through a mouthful of doughnut "so wait whats up with beer guy again? he trip and fall or somethin'?" he said continuing to eat his doughnut.

The two then exchanged glances, then looked back to the two, dumbfounded. Then they stopped and breathed a bit. Xaio stepped forward and told them the story. "After you left, Ted, Rick and I entered the store using his spare key and after we turned on the lights, we were going to check behind the counter and set up for shop. Then when we got there, Mister Patrickson was lying dead on the floor with three gunshot wounds on his chest."

Then they waited for their reaction.....

Ted took another gulp of his beer-coffee then asked "So theres like a killer or some shit out there? Thats brutal..." he said before his attention was turned to the speakers in the bakery. He broke his gaze away from the two and looked to the one directly above him, dull music was pouring out in monotone quality, as if didn't think to distribute the sound properly, or didn't set up the receiver correctly. 'possible business opportunity...awesome' he thought to himself. Then it hit him
"WOA WOA WOA WAIT A MINUTE! BEER GUYS DEAD?! AGGHHH!" He yelled as he threw his doughnut out into the parking lot in a fit of rage. "Who the hell would do that?!?!"
