MARY MADDON
twilight
- Full Name: Mary Maddon
Nickname: None.
Race/Species: Vampire.
Faction: None.
Age: 96
Apparent Age: Mid to late teens.
Height: 5'1"
Weight: 99 lbs.
Nationality: Caucasian.
Occupation: None.
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois.
Eye color: Red.
Hair color: She's bleached and dyed it so many times that no one remembers her natural colour, including herself. Once upon a time, it was light brown.
IC Plan: At this point, time runs into itself and stretches in every direction. Mary has no plan beyond what she might be doing that evening.
- Standing at just up and around five feet, this little slip of a girl could be anywhere between fifteen and twenty-something. She's a lean, wiry creature with a delicate, slightly bony frame, an exceptionally beautiful and ovular face with huge eyes, a celestial nose and a petite bow of a mouth, and dainty, angular features and extremities. Without exception, these eyes are always hidden behind sleek dark glasses, rendering anything beyond a vague outline of their shape invisible.
Thick, luxurious black hair with thin gold and white streaks falls all around her head in loose, messy curls, the cut and style meant to frame her whole head in a round halo. Arched eyebrows, expertly shaped, perfectly manicured finger- and toenails (almost invariably lacquered a deep red), immaculate makeup and completely hairless arms and legs speak to an almost obsessive grooming ritual; in addition, her skin is utterly devoid of any mark or blemish. It is also as white as milk.
At this time, her style of dress is very simple. She has an almost invariable uniform of dark jeans, band tees and black ballet flats. Finally, she wears an assortment of diamond rings on both hands and a pair of similar little diamond earrings.
- More than anything else, Mary is childish. In many ways, she is a child. Her way of viewing the world is very simplistic and straightforward; her mind is free of all the muddle that comes with having an adult brain. With the nomadic life, as well, comes a kind of feral, animalistic frame of mind, where it isn't particularly important to check one's emotions; because of this sense of abandon combined with years of being alone, Mary's social skills are flawed at best.
Obviously, she isn't very good at controlling her temper (which is short), and she is motivated very easily to sin and vice—rage, jealousy, greed, et cetera. Above all these, she has no qualms about lying (or biting) when necessity or boredom compels, and is an undeniable glutton. She thrives on human blood and tends to feed even when she's barely thirsty.
No one is all bad, though. When she's calm, Mary can be engaged in very deep conversations. Many have been surprised by the degrees of wisdom and philosophy that she can demonstrate at these times, and the eloquence that she uses to convey them. At the same time, however, her reason and judgment are a bit off—she has a wonderful ability to twist any scenario to suit and justify her preferences.
Few are more content than she is. Mary is, despite her flaws, all the more happy for being completely and blissfully free of the guilt that normally comes with her disposition, because of her aforementioned ability to vindicate herself. She is sometimes sweet, and although she likes to tease and bother people, she is occasionally, during her quietest moments, warm and pleasant.
- Chicago, the 1920's.
...Mary doesn't remember much before she was turned. She doesn't remember her mother or father, or if she even had any siblings, her neighbourhood or her friends. She does remember dancing, because that was all she did, day in and out, as far back as her memory goes. Where she went to school ... they taught dance there, and all the other girls seemed to want to learn jazz. Slouchy, trendy, erratic jazz.
Mary wanted to be a ballerina.
She doesn't remember when she started dancing; she might have been three or four. Every day, drills. Barre. Exercise. Practice. Arabesque. Brisé. Plié. Pointe. Her toes broke and bled. Her feet were hideous. (She has nice feet now.) She bound them up, but that only stopped the blood from pooling into the metal toes of her slippers. There were a few years of this. Ten. Fifteen. Ish. A relatively short time. More importantly she was strong. She was fast. She could bound like a deer and soar like a bird. Her body did things no one else's could. She was young, very young, but she was more powerful then than she would ever be.
She thought. At one point.
Greek legends said that Hades could only be accessed by travelling over a river of the dead. Mary remembers, in a fit of hysteria, thinking that she must have fallen in. Somehow she wound up caught between life and death in a rushing river of fire, and it burned her, boiled her blood right out of her, and no matter how she screamed or thrashed, no one would come for her. There was no relief anywhere. It lasted a very long time.
When she opened her eyes, a man was standing over her. His name was John. He told her that she wasn't alive any longer, but nor had she crossed over to Heaven or Hell; this was a sort of in-between state. He had given her this new body, this beautiful, strong, indestructible body, for her to keep as long as she wanted it, as long as she would agree to stay with him. He had been alone for a very long time. For a little while, a few decades or so, they lived together, attached to one another emotionally, intellectually and sexually, but Mary didn't love him. He seemed to be able to sense this; after a time, after he had loaded her down with extravagant gifts and all of his attention, he grew tired of waiting for her to reciprocate his feelings. He left for the Far East, bade her not to follow, and she never saw him again.
It was easy to make that change. She was surprisingly flexible and adaptable. In recent years it had become easier to control herself; that helped. If she had to, she could go among humans without killing them. Soon it became unsuitable to her to remain in one place, so she sold most of what John had left her and began to travel on foot.
All of the years since then have passed in a bit of a blur. Moving. Hunting. Feeding. Moving again. When she got lonely, she would seek out others of her kind who might be in the area, and stay or travel with them for a little while before going on her way again.
In recent months, she has been in Washington, Seattle, Aberdeen and then Port Angeles. At this current time, she has been hunting in the forested areas between there and Forks, waiting to come across campers that look like good potential victims for bear maulings.
- Mary has no special powers in the same sense as some others do, but she is exceptionally graceful, agile and strong even compared to others of her species.
Compared to Mary, a human may as well be blind and deaf; however, when held up against other vampires, Mary's hearing and eyesight is much less keen.
BEL THASRET
medieval fantasy
- Full Name: Arabela Thasret
Nickname: Bel.
Race/Species: Human.
Faction: None at this time.
Age: 17
Height: 4'11"
Weight: 126 lbs.
Nationality: Caucasian.
Occupation: Midwife's attendant/odd jobs.
Eye color: Hazel.
Hair color: Pale yellow.
IC Plan: Work hard, save a little, live comfortably.
- Enormous, round hazel eyes framed by long black lashes are the centerpiece of a childish face, which also contains fat pink cheeks, a freckled and rather impertinent upturned nose, and a full-lipped red mouth concealing fairly straight white teeth. Thin, arched eyebrows are the same pale yellow as her thick, fine hair, which is usually braided and coiled around the back of her head.
A long neck slopes into thin shoulders, which then go on to a tiny but robust body, more that of a girl's than a woman's. However, both her arms and legs are lanky and graceful, as though she's grown into them already, and her torso is short and neat. Despite her height and features, her form indicates that she has probably reached adulthood. She has a full chest, broad hips and strong muscles, and carries a little extra fat around her thighs and stomach. Excluding a smattering of freckles across her nose and her shoulders if they are visible, her skin is clear and browned by the sun. Her nails and teeth are usually extremely well maintained.
Simple blacks, browns and greys make up the majority of her small, worn, plebian, immaculately upkept wardrobe. A typical day finds her in linen trousers or skirt, cotton tunic or blouse and practical ladies' boots. Cosmetics, jewelry and other such finery are eschewed.
- Almost without exception, Bel is quiet and thoughtful. She's more of a listener than a talker, and although she's not necessarily secretive, she tends not to volunteer information without being asked. Perhaps most prominent is her work ethic, which is strong; although she doesn't really enjoy all of the tasks she undertakes, she's interested in learning new things, likes to have something to do, and enjoys making money. Material things don't have much hold on her, but she does like luxuries like good food and drink. Because she tends to work twelve to fourteen hours most days, she eats a lot for a person of her height.
She's naturally cheerful and enjoys good company. She is absolutely a girls' girl and seeks friendship primarily within her own gender. Although she is quiet by nature, it doesn't take much to get her involved in a conversation or a game--just don't expect her to initiate any such thing unless she has to.
- Arabela Thasret, of no real family and less importance, was orphaned as an infant (her father died of illness a few months before her mother died in childbirth). Since that time she has been passed around from household to household; ever since she can remember, she's been working for her keep. Proficient in many things, but mistress of none, and with only a sharp mind and an eager disposition to recommend her, she has tried her hand at a wide variety of jobs in being made to help out where she could since her childhood.
The aforementioned childhood was spent working as many hours a day as physically possible. That was fine with her, since Bel found cheer in being preoccupied, and resulted in strong limbs and healthy organs. Despite her diminuitive size, Bel is no weakling, and many years of mingling with the great unwashed have taught her a few things about hand-to-hand combat.
In recent years she's been living on her own and being paid an actual wage for her services, and although she still works very long hours, she has some spare time. Most of this time is spent reading or practicing with polearms, which she finds invigorating - although any staff she can comfortably wield, sheerly due to her size, is somewhat less massive than the average, her technique is good enough to make her a rather formidable opponent to a peer.
- This character is currently in use in the game 54 Cards. Her card is the 9 of Diamonds.
SIN SHARPP
modern/post-modern
- Full Name: Mélusine Sharpp.
Nickname: Sin. Mel if you're horrible.
Race/Species: Human.
Faction: None at this time.
Age: 19
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 119 lbs.
Nationality: Caucasian.
Occupation: Almost invariably a stripper or a prostitute.
Eye color: Blue-gray.
Hair color: Black.
IC Plan: Try not to die beautiful.
- Short and small-boned, this very young woman may not look like much at first glance. Closer inspection reveals toned muscles and very well shaped, if not exactly ample, curves; she is trim without really being skinny. Hands, feet, neck and shoulders are also splendidly moulded and usually shown off to the best of her ability. Skin is fashionably pale, contrasting extremely long, straight, thick dark hair; her face, on another note, is slightly irregular. The combination of a wide, full-lipped mouth, aristocratic nose and large almond-shaped blue eyes gives her an almost serpentine appearance.
The left eyebrow and labret, along with her naval, are pierced through with glossy black studs. Eyes are usually expertly lined and heavily mascaraed; likewise, her lips are usually covered with gloss. A relatively simple style of dress, taking heavily from the neo-Victorian movement in fashion, is offset by a collection of eye-catching bracelets, rings, necklaces and earrings. Very long nails are almost always painted black.

Sin has long since denounced all feelings of guilt or worry, choosing instead to live sheerly for her own pleasure. Regular adventures are always on the menu, and she finds herself gripped with the strong desire to somehow jolt herself into seeing the potential of each moment. She is young, smart and perpetually bored, completely unconcerned with her own safety, and cheerful and warm by nature, which makes her extremely suceptible to going where she shouldn't or doing what she really ought not do.
Although she often comes off as aloof or indifferent, say, on the train or while passing a stranger, the truth is that this uppity behaviour is a part of her natural deportment and no more a part of her actual character than, say, her hair colour. In reality, she is quick to smile and laugh, exceedingly coquettish and artlessly affectionate, as well as supremely self-confident, completely convicted of her own beauty and utterly and irrevocably immune to any attempts to dissuade her from whatever her objet du jour might be.
When she isn't working (which she does only when money is an immediate requirement), she is gleefully sociopathic, taking great personal pleasure in the little things in life - like covertly tripping a whiny toddler on the bus, tampering with condoms at the convenience store, or indulging in a little casual kleptomania. Mostly, however, she lives a relatively peaceful and self-absorbed life, preferring to be by herself, in a tiny crowd of familiars or, failing that, in someone else's warm bed.
- This is one area of her character that I would prefer to keep under wraps, or rather, to have come out through roleplay. It's largely irrelevent regardless.
- Powers, she has none. Skills, on the other hand, she has a few. When she was a little younger, Sin was very athletic. She took years of Judo and gymnastics, doing well in both, but hasn't practiced publicly in years. Regardless, she continues these pasttimes in private primarily because they aid her in her line of work. Physical stamina and endurance are the cornerstones of her abilities, combined with flexibility and grace. Above all, and perhaps most importantly, she is an amazing dancer.
Sin tends to be somewhat cool and aloof to strangers, making most people dislike her. She has a strong dislike for her own gender, viewing most other women as stupid, vapid or catty, although she never views them as competition. Perhaps her greatest weakness is her lack of physical strength or resistance; she will never be strong, no matter how agile she is, and she will never have much physical bulk. Because of this, she relies mainly on her speed and technique in situations that require her to defend herself.
