Dear Diary,
Today is one of those days where I can understand why my mother took her own life. My father is downstairs drunk again. I would move out, but I don't have the money to support myself, not even at the cheap motel down the road. And honestly, I couldn't leave my father. He is the only family I have left. Yes, I still mention him as family, despite him getting pissed every night, spending half of my wages and all of his 'wages' on money. I put wages in to apostrophes because it's not really a wage. Honestly, he's on the dole because he can't get a job so the government give him money to support me. Like I said, all of that money and half of mine goes to alcohol.
Maybe one day he'll change. I doubt that now though. My dad has gone past changing. He's completely lost himself and now even his own daughter can't save him. One day, when I'm strong enough, I'll get out of here and make something of myself. I promise to. Anyway, I have to stop writing now, dad's shouting for his dinner.
Ryleigh Simmons
X
Ryleigh Simmons is 17 years old going on 18, but in fact, it seems likes she's 17 going on 30 with the amount of responsibility she has on her shoulders. Living in a small council house, on a rough estate just outside of Salisbury, South West England, Ryleigh sees her life staying there. Having to drop out of school at 16 to take care of her father when he was discharged from the army because of the loss of his wife, Ryleigh now has to work at a small cafe as a waitress to earn money to pay the bills and feed her and her father.
Going to college now seems impossible for Ryleigh, especially as her father is spending most of her wages on alcohol. She needs a break yet she's too loyal to her family to just walk out on her father, dispite the way he treats her. Now that she can't seem to get a chance to go to college, she still manages to get time to do what she loves - photography and art. But, only can she take that so far and as the pressure builds, she has less and less chance and time to do what she wants, too tired from work and housework, to do what she loves. Will Ryleigh ever get the chance to get out there and go to college? Or will she be stuck with her drunken father for the rest of her life?

Ryleigh Simmons Character Sheet

Name: Ryleigh Simmons
Age, Date of Birth: 17, 14th September 1991
Sex: Female
Relationship Status: Single
Personality: Ryleigh is the quiet girl in the background, the one a lot of people don't see. She tends to keep out of people's way and go about invisible. She's very intelligent but tends to hide it somewhat now, resigning herself to the fact that she'll just be working in a cafe until she's old enough to retire. She tends to express herself through art and photography.
Ryleigh is a soft natured girl and wouldn't hurt anyone or say a nasty word against a person, not matter how much she may dislike them. She is quite shy and timid around people, though if anyone takes the time to get to know her, they find that she's just a normal kid, with a hard life that she dreams of escaping one day. Despite been shy and timid, when Ryleigh knows someone well enough to be brave and bold, she will stand up for herself and be stubborn and argumentative, something which she gets from her father.
Background: Ryleigh was born in London and moved to Salisbury when she was six. Her father was in the army and her mother just took up odd jobs here and there including bar work. Ryleigh's father started drinking heavily in the army and would come home most nights drunk. At nine, Ryleigh would listen to the arguements that broke out in the household between her mother and father. She knew that her mother was miserable, but didn't realise how much until her mother took her own life just after Ryleigh's fifteeth birthday.
Ryleigh finished senior school with five five C grades, three B grades and 2 A grades despite what happened that year, but due to her father's worsening drinking habits, she had to drop out of college and get a full time job to pay for the house and the bills. Now, Ryleigh's just as miserable with her life, stuck in a dead end job and no sort of future ahead.
Appearance: Ryleigh has redish-brown hair and ice blue eyes. She's around 5'6 and weighs around 125lbs. She tends to be found in jeans and a strap top, not one for wearing skirts and dresses, and if the weather is cold she is either in a hoodie and/or white puffy jacket. Ryleigh has pale white skin and in the summer tends to burn rather than tan. She has curves to her body and isn't one of those girls that are all skin and bones, she's proud that she has some meat on her and has a fuller figure than the celebrities in magazines.
Rules
Literate, Detailed Roleplayers
I've actually taken time to make this story and I'm hoping that it takes off. So, if you're interested this is what I'm looking for. Detail. In posts I would like a minimum of 4 paragraphs at least. I'll be aiming to hit this in my posts, so I hope you will to. Not all posts have to be long, so I think for paragraphs is good. It allows us both to have enough detail to write and answer back. Another thing I'm looking for is literacy. Please, please, please be able to spell correctly and use correct grammar. Odd mistakes are fine, even I make od mistakes but please don't make me get a translator.
Multiple characters
I'm going to be playing multiple characters so I hope that you can to. I don't need multiple characters all the time, but its nice not to be the only one with a long list of characters to play, but to share them instead.
Be active
If possible, a post a day would be great. If you can't post for a bit, then let me know and I'll be fine with it, but please don't just abandon the roleplay. Let me know if you're not enjoying it and we can either do something to spice it up, or abandon it. I know with timezones it can be hard to catch each other, so, a post a day will be fine, if more then great.
So, I think I've done everything explain the character that I'm wanting. I was thinking along the lines of a guy between 18 and 20 that enters where Ryleigh works, and shows interest in her and befriends her. Either a romance can develop, or just a friendship, but he teachs her to think about herself and go for what she wants to do with her life, and not just stick around for her father who is a lost cause. Of course, that is my idea, but been as it's your character, I'm welcome to all ideas, so tell me and I'll let you know what I think. Just place a character sheet below and I'll take a read.
Also, I thought as a last thing, I'd give a sample post of mine so you can see my writing style, but also see what I want as in post length and style. As for what person to write in, I'm now use to writing in third person, but first is welcome. So, here goes a sample post which I could use in the roleplay.
"Early as usual Ryleigh." Mrs. Griffiths smiled.
"Yea, you know me. Can't be late for work." Ryleigh smiled back.
"You know, sometimes a sick day or a holiday is healthy." She stated.
"I know, but I can't help that I enjoy working here." Ryleigh replied.
It was true. She did enjoy working at the cafe. It was so much better than been at home with her father who would sit and watch tv all day while drinking cans of beer. Work was her sanctuary. A place where she could relax. Mrs. Griffiths didn't know about Ryleigh's home situation, but then again, Ryleigh had told no one about any of it. Her co-workers didn't even know that her mother was dead been as she started working after her death.
Ryleigh moved into the back room and grabbed her black polo shirt and slipped it on before attaching her name badge. She then slipped on a dark green apron that had the starbucks label in the middle of it. Looking down, she realised how dull the colour was. It was dull along with her life. She was going to be working in a cafe that had a dull uniform for the rest of her life. It was probably worth just packing up all her art and her camera. She might as well just give up as she was positive that she was going to go nowhere further in life.
Candice soon showed up in the staffroom and smiled, dumping her shouldbag onto the empty chair in front of her. She grinned at Ryleigh and pulled her own top off before putting on the black shirt as well and then her apron. The black haired girl then pulled out her phone, it looked like a Sony Ericsson from her pocket and proceeded to text someone. She did this while starting up a conversation with Ryleigh.
"So, how was your weekend?" She asked casually.
Candice was from up north and had a slight scouse accent. For some reason, it always made Ryleigh smile. She shrugged, putting the strap top that was a pale blue and she'd worn to work, into her own backpack.
"The usual, just stayed at home really. Kept my dad company." She replied. It was almost the truth and not exactly a lie. "What about you?"
"Stayed at Brian's for the weekend."
Brian was her boyfriend. He was a nice guy actually, she'd met him a few times.
"Went to a party at one of his friends houses. Parents were away. It was actualyl quite fun, though Brian isn't much of a partier. Just went because it was a friend, ya know?"
Ryleigh nodded, glancing at the time and saw it was time to go back out. The cafe was now officially open at 8.00am, ready for people to enter so they could grab a cuppa and some breakfast before they started their own long day at work.
"Let's get to it." She smiled slightly, leaving the staffroom and moving behind the counter.
Promise that's it now. Sorry for the long post but hope it gives you enough information. Any interest just post a profile here and any questions PM me.
