I guess I'm up for it... it is kinda sad that the Chat isn't how I imagined it to be compared to other sites I've been to. So, yeah, I can do three sentences with perfect spelling and grammar. For this post alone I did it after all.

The irony of this group is that the majority of the people who joined it are the main reasons why chat RP sucks so bad and won't ever be better. Whenever you wish to have a unanimous vote against god-play and god-like play period and vote on when characters die in game that they stay dead, let me know. As for the chat RP, it's not going to get better because Remaeus allows babies on his website, and the population of chat Rpers are mostly young kids who barely have a grasp of English and refuse to write longer because they are unmotivated or just don't feel like it. The "literate" rper population quickly becomes unmotivated and remains dedicated to a goal for about two weeks before it becomes another shriveled up thread next to the hopeless idea waste basket.

Sonata, while your dose of realism may be refreshing to some, I see this as an actual movement by people to do something about what they know is the horrible quality of chat RP and make it more like a forum RP.

But I have to agree on a few points in that the problem lies with people siding themselves under the banner of "I'm great and everyone else sucks", which is part of an endemic war of newbies vs. veterans that we're trying to eliminate.

Seriously, guys, just suck it up and deal with whatever comes your way. You don't need to be part of an organization to do your part to try to make the chat a better place to roleplay. Just try to constantly outdo yourself.

As an example: The recent...how to put this..."de-modeling" of the bar is, to me, an incentive to get off our asses and explore the wonderful new chat environment Eric has worked so hard to create. The bar is the place where RP kicks off, but not necessarily where it's supposed to happen.

I don't really know why most people are in such a tiff over how some people roleplay. Admittedly, it is annoying when you spend a few minutes typing out a moderately sized post only to have it quickly wiped off the page by half-assed one-liners that are devoid of grammar, spelling or sentence structure, but that is just how it is.

I wonder why I really have to remind people of this, but is the site's 'motto' of sorts not "roleplay your way"? The emphasis there being on the word 'your'. It is nice that a group of people want to get together every now and then to try and do the opposite to the one-lining, grammar-abhorrent roleplayers by drowning them out with larger posts, but to suggest that those who RP with only a few lines, or perhaps even just the one, are 'babies' or are illiterate idiots is going a little bit too far.

Careful now. You're trying to point the finger at those who believe the one-liners are illiterate yet with your quote above, you just said the same thing.

Actually, this could just be a misunderstanding with my awful translations, but they way I would say it, I'm pointing out the one-liners that actually do appear illiterate, with poor grammar, spelling and sentence structure. I do know that there are some one-liners who are extremely capable of writing both good one-sentence posts and paragraphing. You appear to be assuming, as far as I can see it, that I believe all one-liners to be illiterate, which I clearly don't.

It is not an assumption, but a fact. Here, I'll prove it to you since it wasn't obvious.

Admittedly, it is annoying when you spend a few minutes typing out a moderately sized post only to have it quickly wiped off the page by half-assed one-liners that are devoid of grammar, spelling or sentence structure, but that is just how it is.

I bolded "one-liners" because you didn't say "some half-assed one-liners..." you said "one-liners" without distinction, therefore, you meant one-liners in general, which groups them all into the same "half-assed" majority. That is how my statement is factual and not assumed.

Now because you have denied being discriminate to all one-liners, and corrected yourself, it is now known that you didn't mean "all" one-liners even though your statement said so.

Back to the point of this group, I've actually seen more para-RP even before this group was ever created. Unfortunately, I see it mostly at night. Like QB says, you don't need to join a group in order to "start" paragraph RPing. You should just do it. If you were planning on writing a constitution that people have to vow to or sign, then that would be different, and at the same time probably just as ineffective.

If you guys make storylines and try to include people in it, people you would normally shun because they can't write more than two lines, then that would be more effective than this group. There is a role player known as livet who we often see one-lining in the chat, but when she was invited to join a storyline of Akita's, and they made a rule that they all had to post more than X number of lines, we saw her blow everyone away with this huge and well-written paragraph and she was so proud to see that she was capable of doing what most of those one-liners feel they can't do. Haven't we all seen them in OOC going:

Wow, I don't know how you guys write that.))

or

That's a huge block! I don't think I could ever write like that.))

They just need to be challenged.

We could go the Kingdom of Loathing route. You have to pass a basic English test to gain access to the chat.

*Begins singing Why Can't We Be Friends*

Lets face it, people who only write one-liners, are simply illiterate. You can't show how good your grammar is with only one line, nor can you really say or do much. Soooo as far as I'm concerned, newbish kids who are putting out one liners should put a little effort into what they type and at LEAST try to post a paragraph. I mean, c'mon, even when I first started rping I at least wrote a paragraph or two. Literate-Advanced Literate people are simply nicer to you that way, if you show effort and improve then you wouldn't have people like our Sonota bitchin about illiterate-gougeyoureyesout posts.

I find this to be elitist and silly. If your RP is of a high standard, you're going to RP well whether you're in a group or not. If not, why even RP?

I'll see you when I see you, good RP'ers.
As you recall, you know I love to show off,
But you never thought that I would take it this far.

Points of contention.

A) You can't RP without another person. Or else it's just making a story.

B) Most of the illiterates COMPLETELY IGNORE YOUR POSTS.

C) The illiterates that respond to your posts often react in such COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE WAYS THAT IT COMPLETELY TURNS YOU OFF FROM RP'ING WITH THEM EVER AGAIN.

D) Most of the literates, however, that see another literate, often RP with them. RP = the name of the game.

E) Such occurrences happening naturally are quite uncommon.

F) If, however, you planned such a thing, such occurrences would be planned and thus predictable, which means yay! More than one literate can be in the bar / other RP'ing area at one time.

G) The situation described by F is desirable.

As I said before-- Points of Contention. You are welcome to contest all and any of them.
