Machinima ( )

Postby sittingboob on Thu Aug 07, 2008 12:29 pm

ok I don't know if there are any fans of machinima's such as red vs. blue or arby n' the chief or anything like that but me and a friend might (if we get of our arses off the sofa) be making a machinima on halo3. I was wondering if any one else was making one or has one that they’d like to share? (only a basic plotline don’t want any one stealing any ideas)

any way here’s my machinima plot for the first episode.

NOTE: its not really supposed to be funny we just kept getting bored of seriousness and ended up salvaging stuff from the backs of our minds. (notice how the only serious bit is the word "plot")

A halo thing
Plot: two Spartans are sent to the planet hobo 13 installation 66.6 for heinous crimes. They are supposed to be dropped off by a boat but for some reason they are kicked off the boat and have to swim the rest of the way. The two Spartans head up to the base were they have a hard time getting in, when they finally get in they meet a crazy guy. This crazy guy then shows them around and introduces them to his imaginary sister. after finding out were the enemies are via "T.V." the two Spartans head out to try and find them thus ending the first episode.

its kind of crappy but hey we'd been up for 3 nights solid and it was the best we could come up with, still we have bigger plans for the second episode if there ever is one.

Machinima r good.

I'm not too crazy about yours, though.

And Arby 'n Chief is NOT a Machinima. Not at all.

I love "Red Vs. Blue" as well as the early episodes of "Arby & the Cheif" (later on, there are waaaay to many characters introduced for such a simple plot premise, and the creator seems to have trouble juggling them all.)

I've made a few machinimas. My Youtube channel is here: http://www.youtube.com/user/MoonIMover
Yes, "Angus the Warrior" sucks. I'll try to do better with Episode 2. Speaking of which.... *goes off to work on Episode 2*

As for your machinima idea: I have one problem. They are criminals being exiled to a faraway planet, correct? And they will be wearing power-armor, correct?

Why? Wouldn't the authorities have confiscated their power-armor?

I'd suggest using a game other than Halo 3, one where your characters can wear more normal clothing.

Last year I worked as art director with a group of undergrad and grad students for a group project dealing with making a machinima in SecondLife for a machinima-making contest, where you had to make a 3 minute movie with SecondLife in a forty-eight hour weekend. I think the contest was supposed to promote new features like SecondLife's newly released WindLight graphics engine, and you can definitely see how amazing it looks with the shots of the sky and sea.

Here's my group's final product: [m]u[s]eu[m] o[f] [t][h]e [m]i[n][d]

Unfortunately our entry was disqualified because of our use of live footage, but our argument upon submitting was that we were actually testing out augmented reality technology that has been an ongoing research project between my college's computer science and liberal arts schools. You can find out more about this project here. Along with art director duties, I got to control the girl avatar during the "live-footage" scene!

Augmented reality technology. Awesome.

Can we set it to increase the light-bloom? I don't think Real Life has enough light-bloom.

In the mean time, if you have any pretty-looking PC games, I highly reccomend making something with one of them. Software to capture video files from PC games is available free all over the internet, most games can be tweaked/modded if you have the technical skill, and if the game has enough variety in the enviroments and NPC's you don't even need multiplayer.

I do all my machinimating on the PC.
