McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden? Why? ( )

Postby Ylanne on Fri Sep 26, 2008 8:07 pm

Do you support John McCain and Sarah Palin OR Barack Obama and Joe Biden? What are your reasons for supporting that particular candidate? Try to show more of the why for one than why not for the other reasons. If you don't support either one, why?

I acctually dont really like either of them. John McCain is alright but I think if any of them I would have to choose McCain and Palin. I support them because Barack... I don't really like what he stands for, but McCain I don't really like everything that he stands for but I think he is better the Obama. I am not old enough to vote but if I were then I would go for McCain and Palin.

I like John McCain and Sarah Palin from a moral standpoint. While I'm a huge fan of the "live and let live" philosophy, I feel like I can't morally bring myself to vote for someone who agrees with partial birth abortions, even though I personally am Pro Choice in general. But Sarah Palin really bothers me. My family insists that she's "just like everyone else," meaning that she has every day problems, is in every day situations, etc. I don't see her as that. While I admire the fact that Palin does deal with every day problems, this can be a double-edged sword. Will she put the nation's issues on a back burner to deal with her own personal life, or vice versa? And sometimes, I feel like she parades around her son like he's a testament of her being "every woman," while at other times, I think she's awesome for doing it.

On the other side, I find that I like quite a bit of Barak Obama's economic plan, but not enough of it to actually vote for him. My biggest plus for him? His idea of offering tax breaks to companies who hire US workers. With our country in the economic trouble it's in, it sounds like a really good idea to make sure that as many of us as possible have the opportunity to find jobs. Where I live, we had a Ford plant recently shut down, which laid off thousands of workers. Our major population comes from two things - a ship yard and the military. If the shipyard were to be outsourced somewhere else (because, obviously, the military never would), I think a conservative estimate of the number of people who would be left jobless would be approximately 5,000 - 7,000 people. When you live in an area the size of mine, that's friggin huge. Especially if all of those people and their families were forced to move elsewhere to find employment.

I'm really at a stand still in this election. I typically classify myself as a Libertarian (if given the choice), or as a liberal Republican (if not). This is the first election in which I may simply vote for a written in name (at this moment in time, I'm thinking either Brad Pitt or Edward Norton, because their pretty faces would make the State of the Union address much more interesting).

Personally, I like Obama.

I look&listen at McCain while he's speaking, and I get freaked. I listen to him, and I hear George Bush. I will not trust that man with the country.

I look&listen at Obama while he's speaking, and I am agreeing with him all the way. I will trust that man with my country, thank you very much.

McCain, banning abortion?! No way. For some women, it is dangerous for them to carry the child, or they wouldn't be able to provide for it. Either way, women would still find a way to abort the child.

But those are just my opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own.

McCain is just telling us what we want to hear, Hilary wasn't Obama's running mate so what does he do? McCain gets Palin and wins over the female vote, and I have Issues with Obama (I have reason to belive he is the anti-christ) So what should we do? Stay in Iraq forever enforceing republican goals or die a fiery death? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm (lol)

Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Barack is much more realistic. And I like all that he stands for.

I HATE Sarah Palin. HATE HER. When she was governor of Alaska, she did so much bad things... I can't even begin to list them. And with McCain? We're going to go into a fucking Nuclear Holocaust!

Personally, I will vote for McCain/Palin. I mean they DO infact have experiance in politics. What with her being a mayor and McCain being a senator of Arizona. As for the other ones, ....Osama...I mean Obama and ..Bin Laden..I mean Biden. What is their deal? Doesn't bother me if he is a gimmick, just the lack of experiance is what bugs me. Would you put a fresh out of medical school doctor into the position of Chief of Medicine? ....I know I wouldn't. As for Biden....Sure, he plagerized that speech many years ago in his own campaign run, yet he is seen as an 'attack dog'. What if that said 'attack dog' were to get loose in the white house? ...I'd hate to think of that for the future.

Second thought, i'm not sure if I will vote. I'm Native American. So basically, our votes don't count. xD My own opinion.

Palin has less experience than Obama and McCain isn't likely to last out those 4 years. If you in prefer McCain over Obama, 'OK' (Although liking McCain as a person is a fucked up reason to vote for him. If you do this; Vote for ideas, not people!). But Palin? Go search youtube for 'Jack Cafferty' and 'Sarah Palin'. Sure it's biased, but it's a lot more believable than the pathetic 'too young and too inexperienced' excuse.

I posted on here that I was at a stand still.

I'm not anymore. I'm voting for McCain. I live 10 miles (as the crow flies) from a nuclear power plant and I love everything they stand for. A virtually invisible carbon footprint, large amounts of power, etc.

It's official.

And it's not just because my husband works at the plant that I've made this decision.

Well I'm not even American or would I be able to vote if I was American[18 is the voting age for you guys, right?] but I'm interested in American government because I'm a big fan of America and how sucessful it seems at time.

I'm not 100% sure if my facts are straight so don't hurt me ;] but I think I'm a McCain supporter because he is prolife. I'm a strong believer in having choices but I don't believe in abortion and that would fall under that category. I believe that McCain has more experience than Obama but it seems like Palin is getting more publicity than McCain and he's the one running for president so that seems a little strange. I do support Obama a bit too because he does have a good economical plan and educational plan for the US but really politicans these days say one thing and mean the other so I'm not sure who I would vote for if I was allowed to.

I believe Obama should win the election and lead this country into better places. "Senator Obama has been able to develop innovative approaches to challenge the status quo and get results. Americans are tired of divisive ideological politics, which is why Senator Obama has reached out to Republicans to find areas of common ground. He has tried to break partisan logjams and take on seemingly intractable problems. During his tenure in Washington and in the Illinois State Senate, Barack Obama has accumulated a record of bipartisan success." (from the barack obama webpage)
Obama supports women's rights and reproductive choice, and raising minimum wage. Both things i find important since i am a seventeen year old female.
“Our country's greatest military asset is the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States. When we do send our men and women into harm's way, we must also clearly define the mission, prescribe concrete political and military objectives, seek out advice of our military commanders, evaluate the intelligence, plan accordingly, and ensure that our troops have the resources, support, and equipment they need to protect themselves and fulfill their mission.”
— Barack Obama, Chicago Foreign Affairs Council, April 23, 2007
concrete reasons is something bush didn't do and mcCain will certainly not do either. And the fact that McCain wants to make it easier to get guns, well what happens when a psycho from prison escapes and is ably to purchase a gun when it becomes that much easier? think about it. America is mostly a lazy, deteriorating country due to our "we own everything, and if you don't do it our way then we'll just ignore you." well, how has that worked for us in the past? IT HASN'T. and the fact that he wants to spend a good portion of time on encouraging schooling, is a great idea, because then we will be educated enough to make rational decisions about the big world we live in. another thing i like about him is that he supports the use of newer alternative energies is great, because we are literally sucking this world dry in our obsessive need for not only oil but other fossil fuels. what will happen when its all gone and out atmosphere is screwed? it's already half way there people, and it's already for the most part, too late, but we could lessen the affects at least. hopefully. the day after tomorrow ring a bell? and if you're a racist reading this, GET OVER IT! there are so many other kinds of people in this world, so deal with the fact that we're surrounded by so many other types of peoples. I hope one can see the barack DOES know what he's talking about, and mcCain looked like a fool in the debates, and his running vp an even greater imbecile that he most likely picked at random just to get the womens votes. please think of these issues unbiased, and thank you for reading. i'm sorry if i offended anyone with my post, but i needed to say it.

I speak as a libertarian who really liked Ron Paul and is sad.

Here's the way I see my loyalties here breaking down:

MCCAIN
+Relaxing of gun laws
+Business experience
-Anti-abortion
-Imperialistic military policies
-suppport of domestic survailance
-neoconservatism
-overly-fearful foreign relations policy
-offshore oil drilling

OBAMA
+Permissive of abortion
+Relatively new (yes, that's a plus. Less time in Washington is less time being corrupted)
+Consideration of the possiblity of the opening of relations with nations that do not operate with the exact same style of government
+decidedly not a neocon'
+Wanting to focus war efforts on Afganistan rather than Iraq
+energy policy
-gun control

All in all, I find Obama the lesser of the two evils. But they still never talk about the Federal Reserve, therefore they suck. :D

Thanks for making this easy Village. (talking about your neat, organized lists)

While I agree with someone who said that Obama is possibly the anti-christ, I would go for another step forward in my conclusion: Obama is most likely a Manchurian Candidate under the guise of the cool "Fonzi-esque, I'll provide everything you can think of" black man who will do everything in his power to bring equality. That's a joke, plain and simple.

HOWEVER, I am all for abortion and stem cell research. So come on kids, (Mainly Sarah Palin's daughter), get preggo and abort your fetus so I can enjoy the pleasures of never having a broken back, never losing my eyesight, never dealing with brain damage, etc. I know Palin's daughter did not have an abortion, but wouldn't it be so nice if she had?

From your list of McCain, I would like to draw out the imperialistic nature and bring it into the light.

Why is an empire a bad thing? And before you say its not the American way, its not this its not that with a handsome "American" tag on it, look at the Roosevelt Corollary. We already have the power to police the globe, why not rule it as well? It would create an opportunity to unite and use all the world's resources to properly educate and advance the world as an entirety, not individual nations fighting for simple survival. If a conglomeration of nationalities, beliefs, and values were organized beneath one rule, secular fighting COULD decrease. Of course, there would be a lot of dead bodies getting there, but in another two-thousand years, those lives won't have meant shit (mine included).

Oh, the problem with the massive world war that would consume millions of lives and destroy cities around the globe? Humans over populate the Earth as it is, and the number of rising countries from 3rd world to civilization is falling into a stand still. The conditions surrounding the globe have regressed, for the most part. (With a few exceptions)

Then, if I support a global empire, how can I say that I want the troops out of Iraq? Because I was lied to. I refuse to support anything I was not told the truth about. You could tell me the cure to cancer was AIDs, and if it were actually HIV I'd have a serious problem with it.

Now, who am I going to choose? That's a much harder choice to make, considering the next four years of my life are going to revolve around starting my teaching career, preparing to buy a home, and paying off the loans I will have gathered by the end. I really do not know.

The final two: Palin and Biden.

First, I don't know much about Biden, so if anyone has -real- data on him, feel free to let me know about it. This does not include a generalization of his main points and beliefs: I could watch a speech to find out about that. But exactly what has he done and why he did it. Thanks.

Second, Palin. Oh Ms. Palin the things I would like to hit you over the head with. Truthfully, I don't even want to discuss her politics, because she as a person disgusts me. Riding on the back of her daughter's pregnancy and the fact that she is a woman. If that were the case, then my mother could have become the vice president. Only her politics are more vicious and any candidate I've seen. I reject her as a human being on the basis that she stands for something she knows little about, being ordinary. She leads no ordinary life, and deals with no ordinary problems. STOP PRETENDING MS. PALIN!!! She is slightly cute, but the ugliness of her soul kind of destroys that for me.

-I'm not looking for guidance (except for Biden!!) or a debate on my views; I do not discuss politics with anyone, because people only truly listen to their own side, and prepare to rebuke their opponent's points.
