Re: Do We Have Free Will?

Kathrin: "Determined" in this instance means your actions have already been set to occur and will not change. It is the root of Determanism, which states that all actions occur only one way, and we have no free will. A stance I actually take and fleshed out earlier in the thread. Mr_Doomed...

Re: Do We Have Free Will?

I can't wait for you guys to tear my theory apart. Here it comes then :P Instead of eating because you are hungry, you would eat because you logiced (you like my new word?) that it was an appropriate time to eat. The only way to logically do this however would be if you understood every last detail...

Re: Vampires With Hard-Ons?

Presumably there is blood in the veins, or some similar fluid (else they'd look shrivelled), so all you really need to do, is get the fluid into the erectile tissues and then close off the valve with a muscular contraction (which they can do). Even orgasm is simply a reflex contraction. So the real ...

Re: Are Video Games an Art?

Art as a medium to capture the senses and provoke thought, defines video games nicely.

Re: Do We Have Free Will?

There is much difference between determined action and being convinced. When you make a choice you balance out what consiquences go with each action. If the consiquences are say; prison, and prison is not a desireable outcome, then I would make a choice by which I would not go to prison. There is st...

Re: Do We Have Free Will?

My preferred way of dealing with it is to go about acting as if I had free will, even if I know philosophically that I do not.

Re: Animals or Human? Who Has the Right to Earth?

For those of you interested in a read, something I was inspired to write recently: For those of you not interested, we can move asteroids. Nature is running out of ways to kill us :) Life is a thin film on the thin skin of a small ball of rock. 65 Million years ago, a 6 mile wide asteroid wiped out ...

Re: Do We Have Free Will?

Ethics and morality are human constructs which we run our particular stimulus through in order to get an action. If someone kills someone, it's wrong because everyone's reaction to that is that it is wrong. You lock this person up because it is reasonable to assume they will continue to kill (and be...

Re: The Second Amendment

To quote a gang member I heard once "If you make AK's illegal I can still go down the street to my buddy and buy one." Making something illegal doesn't solve an issue of criminals doing something. They're criminals, they'll do it regardless of the law. I think that everyone having a gun is...

Re: Auto-Tune: Music or Not?

As a DJ and hobby producer I know that. But the overuse of Auto-Tune is a horrible thing. Look at Berber music for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=II8RWE8tkKU&feature=related Now you're not talking about music. You're talking about money and personality. People like the kid, and buy the ...

Re: Israel - Palestine

Who should have the authority to do this? Why? Authority is simply someone who is given permission from a larger body to do something. Why would we wait for permission to end a violent struggle? I think anyone with the means to do something should do something. To Lukisod: It's not called the Holy ...

Re: Israel - Palestine

I'm personally of the mind that no one should have it. The whole stretch of land should be sunk into the sea and be done with. It would do wonders for regional stability were Israel not there and if there were no more holy places to fight over. People are violent. It's not something you can just say...

Re: Auto-Tune: Music or Not?

The end result is the same. It's a sound wave that his your ear. The talent of the artist is in creating that perfect sound which causes you to enjoy the music. Auto-tune is just another tool, much as any instrument is, or mixer, or studio. The effect the tool produces is what you enjoy. Auto-Tune i...

Re: The censorship act?

Green Peace is a terrorist group though.... They have ties to radical groups who blow stuff up and fire bomb buildings. Same with PETA.

Re: Is there a Problem with Democracy?

Not to put you down Edwinfirefox, but that's a horrible reason to believe in anything. Believe in something for it's merits. Not because some aggrandized historical figures did. If you think it's a good idea. And you've weighed some of the options and still found it acceptable, then that is a much b...

A Rock

A rock is strong. It stands alone where others may be washed away to the seas. It provides those around it a handhold, an anchor for when they struggle to stay afloat. A rock shelters everyone from the elements of the world. A rock holds their foundations while other rebuild themselves after all the...

Re: Fun Facts!

I collect computer files. I've kept every patch, mod, little game and quite a few pictures and musics from as far back as a decade. All have been copied over to the next hard drive and so on and so forth until this very day.

Re: Why Anime!? Why!?

Thanks for the detailed description for the purpose. My question though had much less depth than that. I meant, physically why I see the drawing as normal and reasonably attractive and the real life version so abnormal as to be repulsive? Is the difference really in the context in which your mind pl...
