Moderator or someone who can help please. ( )

Postby Keikeiya on Sat Feb 06, 2010 11:51 am

I want to do play by post. Period. I love that method, and I have already set up an OOC for a Roleplay I'm doing. I can NOT stand the new roleplay system RPG has employed, but I didn't mind so long as I still had the ability to do my roleplays the way I wanted.

So why is it when I am now trying to post the IC for my OOC, it redirects me to the new roleplay system menu. I am furious. 2 Years now I have been a menber or rpg, and never before have I been so angry.

Give me a thread, anything, that I can post this IC in. From what I've seen written I should still be able to create a new topic in the fantasy forums.

I agree. I'm starting a new game right now and I was attempting to use the same method that I've been using for over a year. Post an OOC/Sign-up thread, get enough characters, create and post an IC thread. Now, I'm going to have to redo all of this because of this new system that doesn't seem to help anyone with anything.

This is bull!!!

[Also, hey Kei! Long time.]

I HATE the new system. Hated it from the get-go.

I said to Rem himself that I didn't want to be forced to use it, because I hated it. He replied with saying basically, "well, you do something better and show me."

RAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe this. I've been here since early 2009 and now I'm being forced to go somewhere else.

God damnit.

They need to change the site's motto from,

Roleplay YOUR way,

to

Roleplay OUR way.
And on the first day Man created God in his own image.

They aren't really going to force us use the new system are they?

Why dosen't RPG just allow both?

I supposed the real question we should be asking is this:

What was wrong with the old system?

This new thing was played up as the "long-awaited" revolution to Gateway. Last I checked, we weren't clamoring for change or demanding that something be done. Unless I'm completely out of the loop, everything was working really well prior to this addition.

I know that I'm speaking solely out of frustration, but it just upsets me because Gateway is such an awesome resource that I hate to contemplate leaving. Still, the site is continually making it harder and harder to create and maintain a good RP because of all the changes that make it more difficult for writers to find and join a game.

Because Rem and the rest of the staff are control freaks.

But seriously. I think he's just worked on it for too long and he's all "look at my shiny toy!!!"

If they don't let me decide which way I want to RP, I am leaving the site.

Edit:

I agree with everything just said above.

I never saw any problems with the site, other than the occasional server error and those pissed everyone off, but not to this extent. I haven't gotten one of those errors in a while, so they must be doing something right.

I'll quote the phrase "don't fix what ain't broken!"

I agree. I don't see why RPG can't create maybe a seperate forum topic for those of us who still want to use the old system. I too am considering leaving rpg and that thought kills me. I loved this site for the entire time I've been here.

But why force us to use it? If we like it we should be using it on our own. Is it that if we are not forced to use it this new system would not be doing as well?

I'm not trying to attack Rem or the rest of the people that run Gateway. I don't have the personal experience (having never spoken to any of them) that you do and I really appreciate the resource they have created for RPers, but this just complicates things.

At the moment, it's hard enough to get your game out with the right timing and appeal so that writers can find it and join. Exposure and ease of location are two of the biggest things that can make or break a game on this site and we all know how fickle writers can be and how quickly they will bolt from a game at the first sign of trouble or inactivity.

I just feel like this new system complicates thing to the point that the casual writer is going to his/her hands up in the air and give up because it's not so simply to join a game and enjoy what the rest of the community has to offer.

Honestly I've never been frustrated with this site. I love the people here, and the forums, and all the moves to improve it further. The moderators and other players have never given me trouble. Its been peaceful and fun.

But if it were possible I would love to have a vote on the new system, run by admin maybe? I am more curious to see how the majority of RPG feels about this new "revolution". Naturally I am sure there are people who enjoy it, but I would assume that there is also a large number who dosen't feel the same way.

"If it ain't broke don't fix et."

Edit: I am not suggesting, however, we scrap the new system entirely. I'm sure the members of RPG worked hard on it. I just wish that if we don't want to use it, then we shouldn't be forced to. If the forums are there, why can we not use them?

Edit 2: "If you create your new roleplays there instead of on the forums, you will get...."
Why is that written and implied if we dont have a choice? Its on 'The Roleplay Tab'

You can still post forums the old way you guys. You don't have to use the old way. Just don't use the new way if it upsets you.

That is the problem, we can't. Try posting a new thread or topic in the fantasy forum, or fiction, or futuristic. It redirects to the New System. I can't post my IC thread because of this.

Try it again. Hit new topic under one of these forums: Fantasy, Realistic, Futuristic, and Fiction specifically. I don't know what changed in the past day.

I just did, I see what you are saying. I'm not sure why it was changed, maybe it's more efficient? Who knows. The next time I want to create an rp I'll just have to deal with it though is my opinion.

First off: Everyone chill out. Just because a new toy is confusing doesn't mean you need to bang your head against the wall and rage against the person who gave it to you.

Secondly: The new system is full of cool features that I believe anyone could have a great deal of fun with if they only tried it on for size. Play with it a little, see how far you can take the creation of your new worlds, invite your friends in to test the waters.

If you absolutely OH EM GEE cannot stand the new system which months and months of work has been put into, then write a single, polite, calm, diplomatic PM to Remaeus and explain to him what exactly you don't like, what you would like instead, and a brief explanation as to why. Remaeus works very hard to keep this site up, running, and cutting edge.

And none of us even have to pay to use it.

So quit with the tantrums and make with the elbow grease, if you really want to see some wheels turning in the direction you're aiming at.

Try dealing with it.

The system is horrid.

I tried to make one through it and I nearly died. Not really. But I nearly did! Not really. But still!

edit: This is what I mean.

Jade we already said what we we want and why, here it is again in case you didn't pick it up:

- WE DONT LIKE THE NEW SYSTEM.

- IT'S NOT AN IMPROVEMENT, IT'S AN ANNOYANCE, FOR US ANYWAY.

- WE DIDN'T NEED A NEW SYSTEM.

- WE DONT WANT TO BE FORCED TO USE IT.

- WE DONT MIND THAT SOME WANT TO USE IT, WE DONT.

- HAPPY NOW?

god damnit.

@ Jadeling Hawkins: The last thing that I'm doing is raging. If anything, I've tried to be submissive to the powers that be and give them every benefit of the doubt in this process. As I said before, I'm grateful for all the hard work and the product that is created through this site.

My frustration isn't with my own ability or inability to use the new feature, it's a concern for how it will affect the average Gateway writer. Let's face it, often we aren't dealing with the most patient and kind people on this site. They want their stories to be accessed easily and move with little difficulty. I agree that this new feature adds some great functions and, in reality, is probably a true improvement.

My concern is that the average writer here will not take the time to learn how to use the system and will, as a result, not find the games we are seeking to fill.

@ Jade

I am most certainly not throwing a tantrum. Like I've stated I appreciate the work RPG staff and Remaeus have put into the site. I've toyed with the system, but decided it isn't my thing. This thread would be nonexistant if we simply weren't being forced to use this new tool.

All I want is to be able to create new topics in the In Character forums. Im not asking for the entire stie to be undone and the new system thrown out entirely and for all hell to break loose. We were able to do it yesterday. (I've seen IC threads created just yesterday). So why can we not do that today? I am not attacking anyone, I am reaching out to the community and anyone in charge to atleast hear me out.

Well maybe you two aren't throwing fits and trying to get your reasonable arguments heard by the boss but I must point to MoonMan's posts, as evidence to back Jade's statement. If more members follow his example, this thread will turn into nothing more then a flame war and get locked.

OT: I'm not overly pleased with the new layout myself but I'll give it a few tries before I condemn it to roleplay hell

Anyways, still nothing is being said about why we're being forced to use the new system.

Thanks mods.
