The sun shone on my freckled face, and I could not resist a smile to feel the warmth tingle on my fair skin. The salty breeze whipped my long, golden-brown hair about my shoulders, and I breathed in the fresh scent of the sea. The letter I had received seemed too good to be true, but this was a once and a lifetime chance, and I leaned over the railing eagerly as the ship sailed towards the island. I hoisted my large duffel bag higher onto my thin shoulders as the ship pulled in closer to my destination, and my eyes shone like the sun on the sea below as I shivered with excitement.
The ship drifted into the dock, and for a moment I was torn between the adventure on shore and the calling of the sea. I was never very good at socializing, and the water suddenly seemed far more inviting and friendly than the unknown that lurked behind the large doors of the hotel. But I was here, so I had best get in and at least try to meet someone. I shifted the bag on my shoulders again, trying to even out the heavy weight, and stepped through the sliding doors.
I gasped as I entered, and I marveled at how huge the lobby was. The architecture was beautiful with the sloping arches and intricate details, yet it had a clean, modern look that was very welcoming. I walked up to the front desk and smiled at the man seated there, and he looked up at me and returned the smile automatically.
"Welcome," he said. "Name?"
"Patricia," I replied, a sense of confidence in my voice in spite of my slight nervousness. "Patricia Bujard...B-U-J-A-R-D." The man nodded as he typed into the computer.
"Age?"
"19..."
"Username?"
"Kunoichi26..." I said slowly, making sure to pronounce every syllable clearly. He typed a few more notes into the computer and then gave me the key to my room. It had my name and other information typed onto it, and I held it tightly in my hand so I didn't lose track of it.
"Room 267 on the third floor," The attendant said, and he pointed to his right. "The elevators are just over there." I thanked him for his help and walked to the elevator, passing a small group of people that stood around the middle of the room. I debated on whether I should take the stairs or the elevator, but the strap digging into my shoulder decided that for me, and I walked reluctantly into the small compartment.
"Second floor please," I told the elevator operator, and I watched the silver doors close warily as I held onto the rails that lined the back wall. My stomach lurched as the elevator started moving, and I took deep, relaxing breaths as I watched the small glowing numbers above the door. First floor...second floor...I'm okay, almost there...third floor.
I didn't even thank the man as I rushed out of the barely opened doors, and I breathed a sigh of relief for escaping the horrible confinements of the elevator. I walked down the hall and quickly found my room, where I set down my things and opened my laptop to check for internet access. Yes! Internet was alive and well, and I grinned as I checked Roleplay Gateway. A thread had already been started about the trip, and I quickly wrote a reply.
I'm having a lot of fun so far, it's a really nice place.
But I've been wondering, does anyone know why they're doing it? Is there a special occasion of some kind? I left my laptop plugged in and walked back down to the lobby to see if I could get acquainted with the group. I stalked around the outside of their little circle, wondering if I should join in, but hey, what's the worst that could happen? I gathered up my courage and walked up to the group.
"Hello, my name is Patricia, do you mind if I join you?"
