Jake looked down as Tilly refused his help. It wasn't like he expected her to say yes, but he was hoping she would. He wouldn't have thought any less of her or anything, if anything he would have felt like it was more like the good ol days. Before he made what was probably the biggest mistake of his life.
When they made it to the board room, Tilly had replied to his wondering. He slowly shook his head. "Nah, that's the wrong answer Tilly. Don't think it'll happen because we did this perfectly. Not because he likes me." He said with a smile. As they began to hook everything up, the boss walked into the room.
"Tilly and Jake. I've heard you were both working pretty hard this week. I hope it'll all pay off. I don't need to tell you how much this would mean to the company to get. This will put the company up in the big times. Good luck to you guys. Knock this one out of the park and you'll become some of my favorite employees." The Boss said with a smile, before walking out.
Jake stood there, and listened but just watched as the boss left before anyone could get a word in edgewise, as usual. "Man.... He never sits long enough for you to say anything, does he?"
After the boss had left, there was an eerily short gap in time before the Corporate Big Wigs from Salamander Shoes started to come in. They had got everything set up just fine, but before they even really had a chance to go over everything one last time, the opportunity to do so had already slipped away from them. Jake stood in the corner with Tilly waiting to be introduced by their boss. He could try to lay it off as he wasn't nervous, but the sudden pit in his stomach was obvious with the way the beads of sweat poured down his face.
After a short introduction it was their time to shine. Jake gave a glance at Tilly and a smile as he went to go start things off, whispering "Just like we practiced" in Tilly's ear as he walked over to the area where they would present it.
It was weird, almost as quick as they started they were finished, although that was just how it seemed. They both had practiced it so much, that it was almost second nature and came off with ease, despite the nerves in the room. They definitely pulled it off great, and if they didn't get the job he had no idea what the Salamander Shoes executives wanted. They had a near flawless presentation, and a kick ass one in his opinion as well. If they didn't get this, then the executives had to be insane.
The waiting was probably the worst part. They didn't seem to hate it, though they didn't seem in love with it either. Maybe it was just the way they act until they discuss it together, as to not get the hopes of the ad designers up too high in case some don't like it. The boss walked with them outside as they told him that they would contact him with the decision later in the day. Leaving Jake and Tilly once again alone in that board room, Jake just let out a breath of relief, glad to be able to finally calm his nerves. At least a little, he still wanted to hear the decision asap.
