Clutching her notebook to her chest, Brielle arrived at the new school. Her father was weary of leaving her their, and alone, but she held out her pinky, which was her way of getting him to pinky promise that she would be fine. With a smile, she walked into the building. It was in the middle of a class, so she just went to the office, glad not to have to weave through a million people.

After getting her schedule, and a map to be able to find everything, Bri just sat in the office, waiting for the bell to ring for her to leave and have to find her class. The girl really wasn't looking forward to yet another first day of school. Thankfully though, this should be one of the last days of this.

Finally, the bell rang. She brushed her blonde, curly hair behind her ear, took a deep breath, and walked out of the office. Looking around, she sighed, not sure where to go. People were piling into the hallways, talking to their friends, stopping in the middle of the hallway to gossip and catch up, and crowding the bathrooms and other places. It wasn't long until someone bumped into her, sending her into the wall, and sliding down on the floor. That was when she finally gave up. Brielle didn't want to be there-not at all.

As Ian turned the corner to get to his locker, he almost tripped over a girl, slumped on the floor. He sighed, irritated, and gave her a weird look and continued over to his locker which wasn't far off. Ian wasn't in a good mood, he had a rough start this morning. Maybe I should see what's wrong and apologize.
Before he can go back to the girl, a couple of other girls dragged him away. Asking him questions and taking pictures. These girls were just so obsessed and he really didn't like it. It actually kind of scared him.

Wynn was beaming as she walked through the school hallways. Her lips curled up into a sincere smile as friends passed her by, waving and saying congrats. Why were they saying congrats? Well, she had gotten the female lead in the school play, again. This year they were doing the tragedy Romeo and Juliet, one of her favorites. The male lead hadn't been casted yet, no guys really wanted to tryout so it would probably end up going to a girl. Wynn sighed, why did the male lead always end up being a girl? Oh well, that didn't matter right now, she had nailed that audition! As she walked towards her classroom Wynn spotted an unfamiliar girl on the floor, she must have been new. Feeling pity for the poor girl, she bent down to gather her books for her, which had scattered across the hallway floor. "Hey, you shouldn't sit around in the halls like that.. because I can guarantee you someone is going to step on you.." Wynn said with a friendly smile, offering the girl a hand and her books. "You're new, right?" She dared to ask, shyness in her voice.

Brielle whimpered when some guy stepped on her. However, the only thing she did was sink down farther on the floor, not caring if she got stepped on at the moment; it would only give her yet another reason to beg to be home schooled.

After that, it was a shock when some other girl came over to help her. She smiled appreciatively to the girl who had helped her as she got up. Taking her stuff, she nodded at the question. Opening her little notebook, she wrote a few words.
'Thanks, I'm Brielle Connor.'
Then showed it to the other girl, her handwriting neat and slightly slanted in the cursive, already guessing that the questions would start.

Ian walked to his English class and sat down in his assigned seat, which was in the far back. "Mr. Amherst." the teacher, Mr. Winton said while nodding, acknowledging Ian's presence. Ian took out his notebook and binder. He was always eager for the start of his AP English class, after all, that was his best and favorite subject. Sitting quietly, he watched as students strode in and took their seat. His eyes wandered over to the clock. There was about one more minute till the bell rang.

Wynn smiled back at the new girl and raised her eyebrows slightly when she wrote down her name instead of speaking it allowed. It dawned on her quickly that this girl must be a mute. Not wanting to embarrass her or single her out, Wynn read the message in silence. "Brielle.. that's a very pretty name." She commented. "So you're new.." Wynn stated. "The kids can be rough around here.. but I guarantee you that you'll get used to it after sometime. Do you need any help finding your first class?" Wynn asked, looking down at one of the papers she had picked up for her, it was her class schedule. She felt a bit uncomfortable asking her so many questions when it was obviously hard for her to answer.. but she was just trying to help.

Brielle grinned apprecialtively. She underlined the Bri in her name, hoping the girl would get it as her nickname; since that was what it was. Most people called her Bri. That way, it was easier to write, and also easier since most people couldn't pronounce her name properly, and she couldn't help.
'English'
She wrote down.
'And thanks...for helping me."
Bri wrote rather fast, since if she was slow, then most people just ignored her and walked away. Well, it wasn't like it was hard for her to write fast, she always wrote so it made for a lot of practice.

Claire walked through the hallway of her school to her next class, her face hidden behind her curly black hair and her binder and book held closely to her chest. She gazed around, and saw a girl who looked new writing in a notebook with Wynn. Claire wanted to go over and meet the new girl, but she didn't want to be late for English. Claire walked past, and pushed her way into the English classroom. She took her usual spot at the back of the classroom. "Ms. Gruesson," Came a voice. Mr. Winton's voice. Claire's head jerked up, her eyes wide and her hair covering over half of her face. When she realized he was just welcoming her to the class, again, Claire nodded and gave a small smile to Mr. Winton. This was the only class she was able to get away with reading, since she was in the very back, and she would still pass the tests with decent grades. She pulled her thick book toward her, and started to read. She was immediately immersed in it, and it should have been a well-known fact by then that when she was into a book, she wouldn't stop unless it was extremely important.
She wonders "Why?" Does anyone ever hear her when she cries? This is the dark before the dawn. The storm before the peace. Don't be afraid, the seasons change.

Wynn wrote once again what Brielle had written down on the paper and nodded. "It's not a problem, you looked like you could use some help.." She stated. "Lets hurry to class now or you'll be late on your first day Bri." Wynn said, smiling. She was surprised by how easily she could talk with this new girl. Usually, Wynn was the quiet, shy type who stared curiously at new kids from a distance.. but there was something about Bri which made her easy to talk to, maybe it's because she couldn't talk back. Questions burned at the back of Wynn's throat. Where had this girl come from? Why couldn't she speak, or why didn't she speak? But, those questions seemed rude so she kindly pushed them aside and began to walk down the hallway towards Mr. Winton's English class, only glancing behind her to see if Bri was following.

Once more, Bri was so thankful for this girl. After she got her books to where she would be able to walk and follow Wynn without all of them sprawling to the floor, she followed. As she walked, the girl made sure to keep up with her savior, and also underlined the thank you. Brielle was very thankful for this girl, who had helped her without any need or reason to.
When they got to the class, she showed her notebook to Wynn, then hurried into the class so that she wouldn't be late, cause the girl to be late, or have too many eyes on her as the new girl. She walked up to Mr. Winton and showed him the paper that the lady at the office had given her, which told him that she would be in his class the remainder of the year, and told him her condition and all.
After that was done, Bri was sent to the back of the classroom, since there was only one empty seat, and sat next to some guy, whom she recognized as the one to step on her. On the other side of her was a girl with black hair, just as curly as her own, emerged in a book. Sighing, she opened her notebook and pulled it in front of her, looking at the book the teacher had given her.

Wynn smiled, it felt good to help people out. Helping Bri gave her the same warm feeling inside that she got when she volunteered at the local hospital after school. She was grinning widely as she entered Mr. Winton's classroom after her. "Ms. Kullin, glad to see you're in a good mood today." The teacher noted as she made her way to her seat. Wynn smiled shyly at the teacher, a bit embarrassed to be singled out. "Good morning Mr. Winton." She said quietly and then continued walking, taking her seat in the second to last row where she always sat and turning to see that Bri was seated right behind her. Normally, this class was for upperclassmen only, but English was Wynn's best subject and like always, she was taking the double excellerated class this year.

When Claire finished the chapter, she looked up. There sat a new girl next to her. Claire silently debated whether to talk to her. Would this girl like Claire? Claire shook that though from her head. She looked at the girl nervously, then opened her mouth. "Hey. I'm Claire," Claire said in a small, shaky voice. Her voice came out sounding more nervous than she had expected, or wanted, it to. She didn't like introducing herself to new people, and she was sure they didn't like it just as much as her. But she felt she should do this. She thought this girl seemed different. Different in a good way. Claire felt the corners of her lips curl upwards in a small smile.

Hearing someone talking to her, Bri looked up, noticing it to be the girl with the curly, black hair. She smiled and waved as acknolewdgement before turning to her notebook.
'Hi, I'm Brielle'
The girl wrote, underlining the Bri, hoping the girl would pick up on that, and once more waiting for the questioning to start. Actually, she was shocked that Wynn didn't ask her any questions, usually it was like a 'new girl who can't talk' spotlight on her.
Smiling, she tore the piece of paper out of her notebook and showed it to the girl, Claire, smile still on her face.

Claire nodded after reading the note. "Nice to meet you Bri," Claire said, smiling. She wanted to ask why Bri didn't just tell her, and why she had to write it down. She made up her mind, deciding to ask. "Why did you write it down?" Claire asked. She reached her manicured hand up and twirled a curl around her finger nervously.

Sighing, Bri took the piece of paper down. Laying it on the desk, she started writing again.
'I've been mute ever since I was little.'
That was the shortest way for her to put it, and Brielle usually just left it at that. The girl didn't really know anything more to tell.
Giving it back to Claire, Bri watched her reaction, wondering what other questions she should prepare to answer.

Wynn smiled without turning around. Bri and Claire were talking, or rather Claire was talking and Bri was writing. She thought it was good that Bri was making friends so quickly, maybe she wouldn't have such a hard time fitting in. The bell rung and Mr. Winton didn't delay to start his lecture. Wynn copied her notes in silence, trying to keep up with what the teacher was saying. She was having a rather hard time focusing, she was still deeply curious about the new girl but more than that she wondered who would be playing the male lead in the school play. Everyone knows Romeo and Juliet has a 'kissing scene' and Wynn found herself worrying about who she would end up kissing. She turned her head slightly to see Ian Amherst sitting three rows in front of her and found herself smiling like an idiot. He's really cute.. she thought to herself. Wynn, like many other girls in the school, had a crush on Ian. It was just unavoidable. But she did realize that a guy needs his personal space, so she barely spoke to him. She was way too scared anyway. Plus, she was in 10th grade, and he was in 11th grade, what would he possibly see in her?

"Ms. Kullin, would you mind explaining to the class what a Socratic Seminar is?" Asked Mr. Winton, who had obviously caught Wynn daydreaming. Wynn turned bright red and lowered her head. "It's a discussion group in which people give their views and opinions on a controversial topic, it was created by the Greek philosopher Socrates." She answered, breathless. "..Very good." Mr. Winton said, hesitating before realizing she had actually given a right answer.

Ian watched as Wynn walked in and was surprised to see the girl he accidentally stepped on, following behind. When the new girl sat down, he was about to go over and apologize, but decided against it as Claire introduced herself. It's really good that she's already becoming friends with people. In that case, I don't want to go over and ruin her moment. I'll just apologize later. Thinking about his first day when he arrived, Ian closed his eyes and smiled. That day was quite interesting. Practically every girl wanted to get to know him, which caused such disturbance in classes and the already popular kids became very pugnacious. Soon though, he was accepted by them. He had earned his place and he was very happy that he had.

Looking back again, Ian could see that the new girl and Claire were exchanging a notebook. Is she mute..? One could tell that Ian was very observant. His attention was back at the front of the room when Mr. Winton began speaking. This was the part of English that he didn't like, even so, he reluctantly took down notes as everyone else did. Just then, Wynn was called on by Mr. Winton. Hearing Wynn answer, he smiled a bit. Wow, that was a nice save.

Wynn sighed with relief when she realized she had answered the question right, thus avoiding making a complete fool of herself. I wonder if he noticed me looking at him.. She thought, her cheeks still flushed red. That would be so embarrassing.. She bit her lip and forced herself to focus for the remainder of the class. She scribbled notes quickly, flipping pages more often than not in her marble notebook. She loved English, but she much preferred free writing, lectures were so boring. She smiled to herself, at least she had chorus class next. Ms. Shonfeld, the chorus teacher, was one of Wynn's favorite teachers in the school. She was fun, easygoing and just strict enough to be a good educator.

As the bell rang, and the teacher started, well, teaching, Bri turned forward paying attention. She really didn't feel like getting called out on her first day, thus drawing even more attention to herself. Also, she didn't know the teachers here. Yes, her being mute helped her in not usually having to answer questions out loud in class, though some of her previous teachers had made her write down the answer for someone else to read if they didn't think she was paying attention. So, Brielle just made sure to pay attention, taking notes, though drawing and doodling a lot in the margins more than anything. She had already gone over parts of this stuff in her last school, so it was mostly just review for her.
