New Sherlock Holmes Movie ( )

Postby Eisenhorn on Sun Jan 03, 2010 2:38 am

Alright, for those who have seen it, let's hear what everyone thought. Try to avoid spoilers please, for those who have yet to see it.

Alright, I thought it was a, if not must see, then definitely a worth while thing to see. I liked how they portrayed Holmes and Watson, being different from other movies that portray Watson as short and fat, and Holmes as tall and handsome. The story was interesting, and all the stunts pulled by the villains were explanable later on, after the fact when Holmes and Watson actually gave thought to as how the villains went about their business. It wasn't one long detective thing, with a good amount of action and actual footwork, as well as interesting Holmes moments as he walks, step by step, how he does something. Very short summery, avoiding spoilers though, but I found it an excellent movie.

Heh everybody likes this movie. Holmes is very clever but also quite mad - more mad than is portrayed in various other versions and he doesn't play the violin quite so elequently. Watson is absolutely gorgeous and I do think there is some unspoken er... something between them which I think anyone writing fanfic might run away with - know what I mean?

I liked it. I thought that the characterization of Holmes and Watson was probably the strongest suit of the film, especially the relationship between them (heh). Downey was spectacular, and Law was if anything even better in his role. My problem was with the plot, which while at least not going as hokey as it might have done (if you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about), was still a little higher on the cheesiness ladder than I might have hoped for. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a dreadful offering, I just found myself thinking that if it wasn't a Holmes movie, and had had poorer actors--in short, if the plot was all there was to go on--I would have come out of it rolling my eyes a bit.

Fortunately, it was a Holmes flick, the actors were spectacular, and color me enthused for the sequel.
Then spake the damosel in a voice atremble, "Thou mayst swing upon thine own swingset, noble sir, but 'tis said by such folk as art wise that woe betide the saucy varlet that ventureth his lyfe upon yonder swingset, for such doth belong indeed to the Knight of the Swingset, and wroth is he with any that swing thereon but those of his company." -- Le Faux D'Arthur

I saw it twice and loved it both times.
My only problem with it was that.
It wasn't Holmes.
Sherlock Holmes is a man who smokes his pipe and ponders the answer to seemingly unexplainable things.
Not a boxer/sailor/hero that gets away with everything.
I think there was too much action involving Holmes seeing as he is a man who hardly ever does his own stunts.

I dont feel that there is enough credit for Moran.
I mean, he manages to kill people with so much skill (For want of a better phrase, but, yeah, spoilers)
He's completely badass, and not bad to look at either. Personally, I prefer the Moran/Moriarty pairing over the Holmes/Watson. Though...they are both extremely cute in their own ways.

The film was fantastic! I have never loved a film more, beside X-Men first class. The characters were amazing, the setting was spot on. Everything about the film drew me in.

I thought the movie was okay. Just okay. It's not bad, but it never got really good. I was never enthralled by the plot, I barely cared for what was going on, and in reality I didn't feel there was much detective work going on. I had the same feeling after watching the first movie, and I can honestly say that even if someone offered me these movies for free, I wouldn't want them.

Not because they're bad or poorly acted or low-budget, simply because I find them boring, and I find Downey to be a spectacularly unappealing man in general. I guess I'm just not a fan.

Endlich kriechst du mir entgegen
Halt mich fest für immer
Immer dann, wenn du einsam bist
Wird dich mein Herz befreien
Immer, wenn dich der Wahnsinn küsst
Werd ich tief in dir sein
