| New York University |
Another turning point a fork stuck in the road
time grabs you by the wrist directs you where to go
So make the best of this test and don't ask why
its not a question but a lesson learned in time

“A tradition of excellence. A legacy of innovation.” New York University is by far one of the most distinguished and notable institutions of higher learning in the United States. Centered right in the heart of New York City, Greenwich Village, studying at New York University does not just pit you in the hands of the school, but of the entire city itself.

Students of New York University don’t just prepare for life during their four year stay, they embark on a new journey the second they step foot on the expansive campus. Vibrant and lively, NYU is constantly changing, constantly evolving, and naturally it encourages its students to do the same. Consisting of a total of fourteen colleges and Universities, NYU offers something for everyone and it’s wide variety of majors draws in people from all over the world.

While our story centers around the students involved vigorously in their studies at NYU, it’s main focus is their lives, and how both the school and the city weave their ways in and out of their lives. When you live in the city that never sleeps and you study at one of the finest and most reputable of institutions in the world, life never stands still, and more importantly, the people never stand still.

This story is about the relationships and the connections formed during college. It’s about the keg parties and the greek system. It’s about the classes and the professors. It’s about friends, and lovers, and adversaries. It’s about the ups and the downs, the heartaches, the challenges, and the changes. It’s about the good and the bad, the right and the wrong, the mistakes and the opportune chances sometimes taken and sometimes not.

Most importantly, it’s about life. So, how are you going to live yours?

Its something unpredictable
but in the end is right
I hope you have the time of your life

Charlie clicked "Send" on the little blue box that connected him to the rest of the world...or at least to some of the people he liked spending his free time with. He sent out an invitation for a 'back to campus' party that night, even though his place was about a block away. It wasn't the first party he'd had there, and surely wouldn't be the last. After sending out the mass e-mail invite, he went through a mental checklist of his tasks for the day: hit up the recording studio to finish up some projects, class, and then off to the store to pick up "supplies" for the evening's festivities.

He grabbed a bagel from his kitchen, even though at 11am it was a little late for breakfast, and headed out the door in a short sleeved navy polo shirt and dark tan shorts that just went past his knees. Dark brown, worn-out flip flops carried his feet where ever he needed to go, as he preferred walking to campus when the weather was nice the few months out of the year in New York. Class would have to come first, for once. It was his last year of college -- and his last chance to get his grades up and hopefully use the degree to get ahead in the music production industry. The next Timbaland? Maybe not. But hopefully his creativity and love for life would give him an edge above the competition in his field.

PRO AUDIO 343
Charlie walked into the room, one of his last production classes he'd ever have to take. There were never many people in the classes, but he liked it better that way. Grabbing a seat near the middle, he tapped his fingers lightly against the desk he chose. The first day was always a wash -- an introduction of everyone and a handout of what the semester would hold.
Hey, dream dreamer. When you gonna come with me? I've been dreaming about your company. There's no sense living life with your eyes held closed so tight. You can put your hand in mine, don't you know you're all I dream?

"Where are my fucking socks?" Rachel spat out as she fumbled around through her bags and suitcase. She had to be at the media building in fifteen minutes, and it was clear across campus. Her dorm room was a completely disaster. Clothes were thrown around everywhere, empty boxes and bags all over the floor. But then again, it didn't look any different than it did throughout the school year. Rachel was not afraid to admit that she was a mess. She was too busy with anything else to worry about cleaning or organizing. Luckily, her roommate was used to it by now and could put up with her. If she couldn't, they might have a bit of a problem.

Feeling both frustrated and anxious, Rachel settled for a pair of flip flops instead of shoes and bolted out the door. Damn. Flip flops were not running shoes, so getting to class on time was just not mean to be today, it seemed. If you really wanted to call it 'class', anyway. While she did have her required classes to fulfill her degree, this was a more advance class for the radio station on campus. She felt honored just to be a part of it, as she knew almost the whole damn campus and those in the area listened to their station. She knew the professor today would do the same thing as last year; go over objectives and assignments. The more advanced students would be assigned a shift, and their duties. Rachel just hopped her shift would be at night this time. Getting up early in the morning? Not her thing, and she had no energy for that.

After Rachel made her way across campus in a hurry, she'd carefully slide into the room with quiet footsteps, seeing that the professor had his back turned to the door. She was a little out of breath, panting a little as she lowered herself into a chair and used that time now to catch her breath. Her BlackBerry went off though, drawing a little bit of attention to her. Groaning in annoyance, Rachel rolled her eyes at herself. But of course, she checked her alert message anyway. It was an e-mail invite to a party at Charlie's. She knew it wouldn't take long for someone to get one going. This was already an interesting start for the first day of school. But it wouldn't be long until the sun went down, and the student body could let loose and really start the school year off with a bang.

((Side note..if anyone wants to be her roommate, she's up for grabs.))

Tony had just barely awaken at 11:15am, after his alarm had been going off for about 30 minutes. Why... He groaned to himself, he was still not fully awake, getting to his feet. He glanced at his clock, looked at his feet, and quickly looked back. He mumbled a few words to himself, irritated, he only had 10 minutes to get ready if he wanted to be on time to his first class as a college freshman. He quickly threw on black undershirt, along with a blue button up shirt. His pants not being out of the ordinary were black skinny jeans, also the color of his converse. He grabbed his green folder, and rushed out his dorm, pushing a few unsuspecting students along the way. He creeped into his class oh so quietly. I so made it..aha, he thought to himself. Falling out of his chair moments after.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On time as usual, Araceli was in the back of the class starring out into space as if nothing could phase her. "Boy.. the professors just get more boring every year...", she said out loud not realizing. The teacher now starring at directly at her."Mrs.Borland please excuse yourself from the class", the teacher had said. Araceli grabbed her bag, and headed out the classroom. She sighed to herself and said, " Smart... real smart.." She pulled out a cigarette and lit it as she watched the trees sway back and forth.
So here's the truth, you were right all along, they were never my friends, and I was living a lie. You figured me out, like a leaf in the wind. I try to find who I am, but end up lost in the end. Sometimes it's hard to know what's real when your not.

A perfectly pointless way to start the year. An hour and fifteen minutes of full on lecture about how to set up a mic screen. Waste of my life... Charlie kept repeating in his head as the professor droned on through the class, actually attempting to use the first day to do something productive. Fat chance. When the clock signaled the time to dismiss, Charlie was the first gone -- it was all he could do not to skip out of the place like a 6-year old.

Fresh air never smelled so good as he went out into the bright sun of the afternoon. Music was on his mind as he called a few more people who he'd forgotten to send the initial e-mail too, informing them about his party tonight and asking if they could bring some refreshments of their own. He was always up for sharing the love, but his budget was a little bit more than tight lately.

The walk back to his apartment was short, as he decided to put off work for the day -- his brain had been filled to the brim with recording equipment information. The last thing he wanted was to deal with it right now. Instead, alcohol was on his mind. Tortilla chips, strangely enough, were also on his mind. 4:00am chips and salsa after a party were always ecstasy. He whistled while he moved around, grabbing his keys from the kitchen counter top and his wallet from his room. There were people he hadn't seen in nearly 4 months who he was certainly excited to catch up with, hang out with, and pretty much not remember anything with after a night of debauchery.

Shutting and locking the door to the place, Charlie made his way to his '97 navy jeep. It was a wonder the thing was still running, but it got him from A to B. Today, "A" happened to be his apartment and "B" happened to be the liquor store a few blocks down the road.

Sebastian O'Conner, also known as Bastian to a few of his closer friends, had only finished one class and already he was ready to call it a day. Maybe it was just a case of 'senioritis'. It was his last year of college, he just needed to keep his head straight and survive this. It wasn't that he lacked the intelligence, Bastian just didn't have the motivation. Professors really had to work hard with him to just let go and reach his full potential. But since this was his last year, he was just ready. Ready to graduate and move on with his life. And what he would actually be doing after college...he didn't have a fucking clue. Some people went straight to work. He was thinking something more along the lines of long vacation. He deserved it, and needed it.

Bastian was just leaving math class. Not your typical class when Journalism was your major. But those general classes were required to graduate anyway, and he was saving them for last. He hadn't had the time to check his e-mail, but he overhead a few people in class talking about a party just off campus. When they mentioned it was at Charlie's, that definitely perked his attention. He wasn't exactly best friends with the guy, but he knew him well enough. They had both been Freshman together and shared a few classes. And this wouldn't be the first time he had a party, either. NYU had a very large campus and fairly large student population, but some students stood out more than others. Pulling out his cell phone from the back pocket of his loose jeans, Bastian flipped it open and dialed Charlie's number. "Hey, it's Bastian. I just heard about your party, you need anything?" He asked after Charlie answered, knowing that it wouldn't be long until word got out. And his apartment would be packed with students, there was no way he could supply the alcohol all by himself.

The bell was finally sounding off after hours it had seemed to Tony. He trudged out of the classroom, standing tall. He sighed, Did I honestly think college would be more entertaining than high school was?, he asked himself and rubbed his arm. He watched all the chatting students adore the on they called Charlie. He smirked, What's so special about him anyway..", he said almost irritated. He starred at the ground and decided to confront Sebastian. " Ay, my name is Tony. I'm new around here, mind telling me why everyone is so chatting about this Charlie guy? "

He kept his hand in his pockets the whole time, rocking back and forth on his heels, waiting for a response; As if he was growing impatient.

Charlie felt his phone vibrating in his pocket as he drove -- he wouldn't have noticed it otherwise, as the music playing in his car was anything but quiet. Glancing down at the name that came up on his caller ID, he grinned a little. He'd known Bastian for a couple years, and he was a decent guy. Not in his closest circle of friends, but a great guy to hang out with and someone to always count on. "Hey, Bastian, how are ya?"

After a few minutes of exchanging the details of their summer and how bummed they were that classes had picked up again, Charlie nodded to no one but himself as Bastian asked if he needed anything for the party. "Actually, I'm headed to the store right now to pick up some stuff, but anything you could bring would really help me out. Maybe a couple cases of beer? I'm grabbing some hard liquor too, so really anything you want to pitch in with would be great. Thanks a lot, man. I really appreciate it." A few 'goodbye' exchanges were given, and Charlie slid his phone back into his pocket just in time to pull into the parking lot of University Beverage . The name never failed to make him laugh.

Hopping out of the car, he made his way inside, browsed the isles knowing exactly what he was getting, and left with a couple bags full of what would surely make an entertaining evening.

Sebastian was standing in the courtyard on campus, a hand at his side while the other was holding the phone to his ear. His conversation was distracted from Charlie though when some guy came up to him. Who the hell was this, and why was he asking him? Raising an eyebrow at the guy, Bastian just put his hand up to motion for him to hold on a second. He didn't know who Charlie was? Bastian couldn't help but smirk a little to himself...this stranger had 'freshman' written all over his face. If Tony was too impatient to wait for the phone call to the end, then he'd never find out, would he?

"Sounds good, I'll see what I can do. See ya tonight." Bastian closed his phone shut again and let out an annoyed sigh at Tony. He really didn't have that many close friends. He had a lot of friends, sure. But no one he was particularly close to. What was the point? People drifted away after college, just like they did in high school, right?

"He's a student. If you're new here, I wouldn't expect you to know him." He tried his best not to give the guy attitude, but unfortunately, this was just the way he acted around freshman. He had the same done to him when he first started college, so there seemed to be a pattern here. Actually, he didn't see the harm in giving this kid an invite. There was nothing more fun at college parties than initiating in the freshman. Forcing them to drink until they passed out, or threw it up. It was disgusting, yes. But this was college! "He's throwing a party just down the street here from campus, that's probably why you're hearing his name. If you're not too busy writing home to mom and dad, you should come." There was that smirk on his lips again, trying to lighten up his sarcasm a bit.

Tony nodded unsurely and headed back to his dorm.College party.. means college girls.., he chuckled to himself. Easy bimbos everywhere, maybe college won't be such a blow...

He wondered if he would have a dorm mate, he finally took notice that he had awaken alone that morning. His stomach began to growl, he'd skipped breakfast. He decided to walk to the burger king that was about 2 blocks away from campus, to get a filling meal.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Araceli couldn't help but over hear Bastian's conversation with Tony. A party huh.. she said with a bored voice, .. and it's Charlie's party. He always knew how to throw a good one, I guess it won't hurt to poke in and catch up with him. She giggled, something about Charlie always tickled her in the stomach. She headed down the the liquor store in her 04' Toyota Celica. She brought it upon herself to get a few cases of beers, and a few bags of chips. She quickly paid for the items, and put them in her car, opening one of the beers to take a sip. This is going to be a hell of a year, she shouted out her car window and headed back to campus.

Charlie got back to his apartment and "set everything up", although there wasn't much to do. He set a few stacks of plastic cups on the counter, put the hard liquor next to them and put the beer on ice. The end. He admired his handy-work for a moment with a slight smirk before loading a playlist from his computer to a pair of large speakers. Sometimes working in a recording studio did have its perks. And luckily, his neighbors were pretty easy-going about loud music and loud people. Not to say Charlie's parties hadn't been busted once or twice....but it never seemed to stop him.

With still a few hours of daylight left, and undoubtedly a long night ahead, Charlie took advantage of the down time by catching up on some e-mails and some orders for the studio. A nap was definitely in order -- and the couch had never looked so tempting. He plopped down on the black sofa, waiting for his phone to buzz or for his door to get a knock. The perfect alarm clock.

"...so make sure that you get over to the Quad Thursday night for the rally, should be the biggest crowd they've had in...well, since I've been going to school here," the young man said, leaning into the screened mic in the small studio that had begun to feel like home over the last few years. Calvin Patrick had landed a gig first as the late-night DJ for campus radio, then moving on to co-host and run the live show that had surprisingly good ratings for the area. Maybe it was just the prestige of NYU, but more than just students were listening in these days and the station was competing with some of the local frequencies more than in had in a decade.

"And what, that's like...six years?" The co-host joked from across the table, throwing a pencil at Calvin as they spoke. There was a laid-back atmosphere to the show today, rolling through a number of events they were announcing before delving into the day's topics. The show could get a little racy at times, campus radio on a liberal campus giving them the opportunity to push the boundaries of what they could talk about -- from ranking their female professors to bring in students to cap their weekend festivities all the horrible detail that came with it.

As the show came to an end and the music outros rolled with the promise of recorded programming to follow, Cal stepped out of the studio with a deep sigh. He loved being on the air and always experienced something of a loss when each show was over, knowing that every day he signed off, he was one step closer to never been on the air at the station ever again. Sure, there would be bigger and better things around the bend, but there was something special about the show he'd helped to build from the ground up.

He spotted a dark-haired girl making her own down the other end of the hall. "Rachel!" He waved over a few passing bodies to get her attention, dodging around a student before bringing himself to stand next to him. "When are you gonna get on the air with us? Or did you land your internship and suddenly get too big for us campus slackers?" A smirk began to play on his lips.

Once assignments were given out in the classroom, everything else in class was just a blur. The professor went on about on-air ettitquette, and what not to say. Stuff like that. None of the students, at least Rachel, really went by those rules. If they were restricted from what they could and couldn't say, the station wouldn't be getting the ratings that it did. She was a bit disappointed to see that she wasn't assigned the late shift. So, it would be a bit of a challenge for her to come in earlier. The head professor wanted to see who worked well together, who had chemistry. He already learned early on that Rachel was not the best person to run the advice segment.

After everyone was dismissed, she was making her way down the crowded hall to her next class when she heard someone calling out her name. Her name was pretty common, but her head perked up a bit anyway until her green eyes stopped at Cal. Smiling brightly, she waved back until the two sort of met each other half way. Rolling her eyes with a laugh, Rachel pulled out a yellow sheet of paper from one of her books and held it out in front of him. "Oh please, you can't get rid of me that easily. I'll be doing a run through tomorrow, and after that...I'll be on air with you guys. Aren't you excited?" She teased with a wider smile this time. She felt it was best to leave out the fact that she hadn't landed an internship yet. At least one that was respectable. Some of the stations had a few openings here and there, but she didn't plan on being anyone's coffee and bagel maid. She'd wait and hold out for the better one, and in the meantime, get her experience in at the station on campus.

Aya walked into her new surroundings, a bit bewildered at all the life the place held. People were rushing in and out of the classes, phones bleeped and people talked. She felt a bit out of place, her Asian heritage seeming obscure in this big school. She was a stranger to New York, and this university just made her more intimidated.

Araceli was just pulling up to the dorm rooms, as she saw what seemed to be a scared asian girl. What a cutie .. she laughed to herself. She thought she'd introduce herself, you could never have to many friends anyways. She quickly grabbed up her bags and paced towards the young lady. She put her bags down and placed a hand on the girls shoulder. " Hey honey, you look a little lost... Looked like you could you a friend about now", she said with such charm. She smiled at the girl, " By the way darlin', what is your name? ". Her smile still held, without waiting for the woman to respond she uttered, " My name is Araceli.. Araceli Michelle.. "

She had just stopped to think she had a load of bags to haul, and the party would start soon enough. Ever been to college part before, hun? , the questions just kept spilling from her mouth. Most would think she had an attention disorder of some sort. She picked up her bags and grabbed then young ladies' hand and pulled her towards her dorm. Well, in anycase.. you'll be attending your first party of the year! . She laughed and smiled as she pulled the unsuspecting girl more.

Cavlin liked Rachel. She had a personality that translated over the air almost as well as it did in person. It was hard to not to look at the girl and smile. She was just a little younger than he was but all of them had learned very early on that little Freeman could hold her own with the worst of time, bring her own style and trouble with her wherever she went.

"Great, it's about time somebody classed up the joint and Nathan is moving to the late hour to make up for his class schedule, trying not to drop out of the program," he said, stuffing hands into the pockets of his jeans. Cal was a senior with little in the way of classes left, most of his college hours filled by worked at the station and racking up all the "practical" hours that were required for his degree. Most everyone knew that Cal was only getting the degree to save himself from the wrath of his parents, the ones that had paid to send him all the way to NYU and keep him there. A couple job offers were already on the table for him, most of them back West where he'd been born and raised.

"Anyway, I heard that Charlie Foster is throwing up some deal tonight, guaranteed to end with someone getting their heart broken and somebody else getting arrested. You in?" The crew that worked at the campus station acted along the lines of a big family, members drifting in and out like fish in a bowl. To invite one member of the staff was, in essence, like inviting them all. Having switched over from the nightside DJ spot, Cal was happy to be back in the social circles.

"Shit, shit, shit!" Kate mumbled, darting around her room in search of something to wear. This sort of thing happened to her all the time, and she was utterly sick of it. Somehow, her clothes always managed to disappear when she needed them most, and it was hardly ever the plot of a mischievous roommate - more so a conspiracy spun by the articles of clothing themselves to spite her.
"Well, this is just wonderful. Un-freaking-believable."
She had gotten a bit smarter since last semester and hadn't signed up for any morning classes - something Kate was profoundly grateful for.
"Aha! Gotcha." she exclaimed triumphantly as she upended a nest chair and colorful pieces of fabric tumbled out of it. Perhaps today would be her day, after all...a day to make an impression, a lasting impression, to make sure that everyone knew that Kate Ruiz had arrived, bitches.

She remembered where she had put her shoes and other things - luckily enough, she had never been one of the crazy party girls that New York City was teeming with, though she had been told she looked the part. Kate, with her long legs, smooth skin and short, choppy, platinum blonde hair, had assumed that the remark had been a compliment, and her looks had gotten her out of a few too many tight spots.

Kate glanced at the clock, her dark blue eyes widening. "Oh, god." She refused to be late to her first advanced graphics class. She absolutely would not have it. She...was wasting time on pointless declarations to a pigeon outside the window.
She threw on a necklace and ballet flats with a bright red tee shirt dress, hoping she would be mistaken for a dance student or something, eager to join the social circles of this year. She had mostly hung around with seniors last semester, seniors who had graduated, now. But if there was one thing Kate had always been good at, it was calling attention to herself without actually doing anything, and though she had sworn to try to be less imposing this year...some rules are meant to be broken...and Kate had never been big on abiding by anyone's rules. Her own, it seemed, were no exception.

As she darted across the busy streets and onto the campus, avoiding cars and cyclists as she did so, Kate had a thought. Maybe a better goal would have been to listen to herself, once in a while.

Nathan. So, that explained why Rachel couldn't hold the late shift, he freaking snagged it. Damn seniors always cutting in their first. But she couldn't complain much, at least not now that she knew she'd be working with Cal. She loved hanging out with him, there was never a dull moment. So, working with him would just be that much more of a breeze. Radio never turned out well when you had two people that couldn't stand to work together, even as entertaining as that sounded. "Lucky bastard took my spot. Guess you really are stuck with me then." With a wide smirk she nudged him playfully with her elbow before motioning for him to walk with her down the hall and out of the building.

It seemed it wouldn't have been too long before one of them mentioned Charlie's party. The whole damn campus was talking about it. And there really was no good excuse not to go. This was only the first day of school, there were no important papers to write so early in the ear. "Of course I'm in. Minus the heartbreak and getting arrested." She laughed softly and shook her head at the thought. She was only a few months away from turning twenty-one, but that never stopped her. With lots of alcohol, something interesting was sure to go down at the party. There was always something the whole campus was talking about the next day. Whether it be who hooked up with who, who jumped off the apartment building into the pool, and whatnot. She preferred not to be one of those stories, but it was fun as hell being there when it happened.

Stopping just outside the building but out of the way so people could pass, Rachel tilted her head back just a little to look up at him. "I've go to head back to my dorm. I've just got some unpacking to do, and then I'll be getting ready to head out there. I guess I'll, uh, see you there?"

"Er, Hi..." She said quietly, as a bubbly blonde came up to her. "I'm Ayana, but most people call me Aya." She smiled, before the girl grabbed her hand, pulling her along the student filled corridors. She quickly picked up her bags as Araceli started dragging her away. "I guess a party could be fun." she grinned.

Pretty name, for a pretty girl , Araceli laughed. By now they were in her dorm. "Small, and cramped.. but this is where I reside for the moment" . Araceli put down her bags on a small table in the corner of the dorm. "Do you know where your dorm is yet, or do you have an apartment off campus?"
She was still wondering if she had a room mate or not. She threw the beers in her small fridge, and offered one to the lady. She glanced at Aya for a moment,"I never asked, what year are you, Aya?

Not really waiting for an answer she grabbed her cell phone and started to text Sebastian. When is the party starting Bastian? I'm bringing a friend along tell Charlie boy for me! Araceli sat on her bed, waiting for a response from Aya. She leaned back staring at the young lady, she was quite petite, as was she.
