newbie looking for a battle mentor ( )

Postby Skyra on Wed Jul 06, 2011 2:10 am

Hello,

I've never tried role-play battle before, but I'm very interested in starting now. I have a vague idea of how it roughly works, but I'd love to have someone to guide and tutor me and give me some advice/ personal experience.

I have done normal rps though, so I'm not a complete newbie at role-playing itself.

If anyone is interested in teaching me, please reply here :)

Thanks for reading,

sure. If you're actively seeking to learn then feel free to send me a pm with your questions. Take the initiative. That's my only condition :)

Okay, Skyra, before you just jump at the first mentor to come along, I suggest you read a few fights, pick someone whose writing style you like (even if their success in the ring leaves something to be desired) and go from there. I'd rather you learned from someone who loses while knowing what they're doing than someone who bullshits their way to victory.

I'll give you a few lessons if you'll have me, but in the end it's your call.
How long will he keep on fighting? How long will his pain last? Maybe only the X-Buster on his hand knows for sure...

haha, even while trying to bad mouth someone I see you are trying to keep it under moderation. Good job qb.

To be honest, I have no particular qualms if Skyra chooses someone else as her mentor. I simply offered out of good will and, like you said, it is her decision in the end. If you truly are a better mentor then it might be best for her to choose you instead. Although... I really can't say how good you are since I haven't seen you teach. After all, good coaches are not necessarily good athletes; and vice versa.

And Skyra, my condition still stands. If you want to learn, then take the initiative. If you want to find someone else, don't worry and you don't need to feel guilty about it :) I respect your decision.

If this is some long time war that's going on between you, I don't want to be involved in it, nor do I want to be the one picking sides.

However, I have to say Souloe was the one who posted first (yes, out of good will), and I'm willing to give Souloe a chance to show me what he knows. Don't think that I'm making hasty decisions or I don't know what I'm doing. It's true that I'm new to this whole battle thing, but I think I would know if I have a terrible mentor.

So qbsuperstar03, thanks for your offer. But as I said, I want to give Souloe a chance as my mentor first. Maybe we can do some battles in the future together and you can also teach me things- if you wouldn't mind of course. Knowledge shouldn't be gained only from one perspective anyway, right? :)

Thanks for understanding.

Click here for what is arguably the most comprehensive T1 guide on the internet right now. This is the rule set for combat roleplaying that most everyone follows to some degree, so learning what this guide has to offer will be a big step forward.

Practice makes perfect. Let me know if you have any questions.

I can't say that my record shows that I'm one of the best.

I cannot tell you that I never lose.

I certainly can't tell you that my style will be the best for you to learn from, because god knows there are alot of people on this site that have worked harder than me to get where they are. So if you don't select me for the task, it is understandable and probably wise.

What I can do, however, is make you the promise that I can teach you to use a sword better than alot of the roleplayin population today. So I'll answer any question you may have, but as far as the way of the blade goes, I'm confident in my skills to teach you.
