A scream in the distance caused Annabelle's head to rise. She sprinted foward following the sound of a young girl. The screams led her down a forgotten alleyway but instead of running down the alleyway, Annabelle hid behind a building and peered over curiously. There was a young girl with long flowing blonde hair and large frightened blue eyes being held up against a building. Holding her was a male with dirty blonde hair and piercing red eyes. Newborn Annabelle thought instantly. Within seconds she was sprinting towards the two of them, raising her foot and karate kicking the newborn in the head. She then proceeded to stand over the dazed man with the heel of her shoe going into his chest. "You leave this young woman alone. I don't care if you need to feed, it's not going to be from her." She drove her heel into his chest until he let out a yelp and then she kicked him aside. Annabelle glanced at the girl for a moment. She didn't seem injured, just frightened. "Well, go on.. run. I'm not going to help you again." Annabelle mumbled and the girl nodded, still wide-eyed, and ran off. Annabelle took a small leather bag off her back and removed a vial full of red liquid from it. She tossed it at the newborn who was still on the ground. "Here." Was all she said, and then she was gone.

A scream in the distance provided Derek with a nice distraction from the scent of blood. He jumped up from his leaning position, and dashed down a few blocks, and into an alley, where another vampire girl had a newborn under her boot. She handed him a phial and turned to walk away. Derek followed her, keeping an eye out to make sure the newborn didn't come back.

The other vampire girl walked away quickly, and if she hadn't left behind a scent, Derek would have lost her. He followed her to make sure she wasn't dangerous for the humans or the newborns, or his own coven for that matter.

Annabelle's overly developed senses told her she was being followed. She whipped her head around and her curls bounced in her face."Who follows?" She mumbled without much emotion. She closed her eyes and sighed. The only reason she would be followed would be because someone thought she was dangerous, no one ever followed her to cause her danger, they knew better. "I mean no harm to you or your people." She said smoothly. Without waiting for a response, she turned back around and continued walking towards a nearby park.

Derek blinked, a little surprised the girl hadn't stopped. What was the matter with her anyway? It wasn't in his nature to let someone that upset stay upset, so he continued to follow her, but this time, he fell into step beside her. He whistled casually, a tune he himself had written and usually played on the piano. He glanced over at her, and stopped whistling.

"Why did you let that newborn back there go?" He asked, as if this was normal daily talk. It sounded like he was just asking about the weather.

Why was this man following her? She had already told him he wasn't in danger, so for what reason did he pester her? She decided the best way to get rid of him was to answer his question. "Killing without need is not something I do." She said loudly enough so that he could hear her but not so loud that anyone would overhear. Annabelle stuffed her hands back into her leather jacket pockets and sighed to herself. The weather was changing, getting colder every night, but she hardly seemed to notice these things anymore. "Is.. there something you wanted by any chance?" She mumbled, sounding a little bit rude. Annabelle wasn't in the mood to make small talk with another vampire, she had more important things to do.

"No." Derek said flatly, though he continued to follow her. "I agree with you on the killing part by the way, but we could have helped the poor guy..." he glanced behind him, until a human passed the two vampires. The smell of the girl's blood was almost overwhelming, and Derek had to hold his breath. He watched her walk by them, his eyes darkening, and his fangs lengthening. He could control himself, but this was his body's natural reaction.

He turned to the other vampire, "Besides, other vampires don't make want to bite them." He said casually. He looked over at her and grinned, "I'm Derek." He told her, holding out his hand casually as they walked.

"Hm." Annabelle said outloud, staring down at his hand with her golden eyes, they appeared to glow in the moonlight. She looked up at him with a funny, confused look. "Annabelle." She said flatly, ignoring his hand. The back of her throat tingled as a human passed by but she hardly reacted otherwise. After so many years, Annabelle had grown a incredibly strong resistance to human blood. "And if you help the newborns they will never learn to be independent." She added defensively.

Derek lowered his hand, unfazed by her reaction. "Annabelle." He stored the name away in his memory. "That may be so, but if we don't help them, they might not ever figure out there is another way. Some are searching for help. And we save countless human lives by helping the newborns that are out of control." He added gently. He noted her tone, and decided to ease up. "So, what brings you here?" He asked, looking straight ahead, his nearly black eyes reflecting the moonlight. He needed to feed soon.

"Perhaps." She shrugged. "But it's really not in my business to get involved with the lives of newborns. No one helped me out, so I figure they can make it on their own or find someone else willing to help them." They were at the park enterance and Annabelle swung the gate open and walked inside, settling herself down under a tree. "What brings me here?" She sighed and looked up at the moon. "I really don't know." Her lips curled up slightly but the smile was more of a smirk.

Kiana frowned slightly as a rather loud noise sounded a bit away and the man she was talking to scampered away. She sniffed the air. Huh. She caught a faint whiff of yet another newborn and adult vampire. Her frown deepened. Why were so many vampires gathered today? She shook her head to herself. They were going to get exposed like this. Staying on that train of thought, she turned back to the little group she had been watching earlier. She decided now would be a great time to intervene.

As she strode over, she paused by the coffee shop window, looking at something that had caught her eyes. There was a girl in the coffee shop, giving her a harsh look. She blinked in surprise and tried to remember if she had ever met this girl before. Nope. Never. She tried to ignore the unease in her stomach as she walked away again.

She leaned against the wall, close to the group. The girl was still snapping at the over vampire. She rolled her eyes, speaking softly. "You realize you're going to end up exposing us like this, right?"

Derek frowned. That the kind of philosophy that he refused to live by. Just because someone wronged you, didn't give you the right to wrong someone else. He kept the thought to himself though.

He didn't sit, instead, he leaned up against the trunk of the tree, crossing his arms over his chest in a completely relaxed position. He was glad there were no humans in this area. "So you mean, you don't have any friends, or a coven or anything?" He asked. The idea almost frightened Derek. Ever since he'd been changed he'd had at least Somebody to turn to.

Annabelle nodded but didn't turn her head to look at Derek. "I'm a loner." Was all she said. She pulled a small flower from the ground between her legs and started to pluck the petals from it boredly. Each loosened petal slowly drifted away in the wind. Why was she telling this man so much? He seemed friendly.. but.. she just.. wasn't. That's all. Annabelle was a mean, cold person and no one had ever really talked to her this much.. not one wanted to talk to her. What made him so different? She glanced over at Derek for a moment. He was handsome and mature looking. For a moment he reminded her of her Daniel but she shook the thought out of her head and turned back to the moon. I won't let my mind wander like that again.

Derek couldn't imagine trying to do this on his own. "So, do you have a hard time resisting the urge to drink human blood?" He himself didn't now, just because of his gentle nature, but when he was a newborn... He didn't want to think about that. He looked down at Annabelle, feeling a little sorry for her. "Do you enjoy being alone?" He asked her, a little unsure how anyone could enjoy being alone.

Annabelle knew what she wanted to say. She wanted to tell this stranger it was none of his business to be asking her such personal questions. She wanted to snap at him, but she was naturally calm. She spoke as if she was an elder this time. "I have been a vampire for 493 years, bloodlust is a thing of my past." She sighed, remembering the passion human blood used to bring her as a newborn. The memory was clear and sharp even after so many years. Then she shrugged. She had already told this man too much, what was the harm in going a little further? "I haven't always enjoyed being alone." Her lips curled up again as she thought of her lover. "But that was a long time ago."

Derek looked at the girl, feeling sorry for her. He didn't know what to say, and felt there really wasn't anything he could say to that. Instead, he just pulled his arms tighter and rested his chin on his chest, taking a deep breath. That was a mistake. There were a couple of humans on the other side of the wall and their scent was carried by the slight breeze. Derek tensed up a little, his fangs sprouting. He held his breath, and forced himself to calm down.

Annabelle's throat tingled a bit and she knew humans were near. She didn't even look up at them though, they weren't any interest to her. She cleared her throat. "I came here to hunt, so if you don't mind.." She rose from under the tree. Annabelle closed her eyes and took a deep breathe. She became one with the ground she stood on. She could sense any movements, smell any smell... Not far off she smelled a large male deer. "Mm... that'll do I suppose." She said emotionlessly. Annabelle flew foward with inhuman speed, her hair flying behind her violently. She flung herself ontop of the deer and sunk her fangs into its neck, draining it of all it had. She didn't like what she had to do, but if she was going to kill.. she would not waste it. Licking her lips she stood up and carefully dragged the deer under a tree. She looked down at her hand, the whole time she had been clenching the half-plucked flower. She placed the flower down gently ontop of the deer. For just a moment Annabelle looked gentle and kind and then her hardened expression returned. She made her way back over to "her" tree and sat back down as if nothing had just happened.

The smell of blood coming from Annabelle was almost too much for Derek. He inhaled sharply and his fangs grew to their full length. "I need to do the same..." He said uneasily. He dashed into the forest, using his heightened senses to find any animal he could. His nose kept pointing him toward the human population, but he ignored it, instead focusing in on a nearby rabbit. The rabbit would be enough to sustain him for at least tonight. He caught the quick creature with ease, and bit down into its throat, completely draining it. His eyes instantly took on their usual light gray color, and he felt much more relaxed. He was careful to wipe his face clean before returning to the spot where he and Annabelle had been talking. This time, he sat across from her in the grass.
