Not an emo monster RP ( )

Postby Jadeling Hawkins on Wed Jun 25, 2008 10:17 pm

Title not permanent...just wanted to point that out.

So, it's been a while since I've started a new game, and all of mine are getting very slow, and I am getting slightly antsy in the ole noggin'. And for whatever reason, I have begun to return to my old love of monsters and stuff. You know...vampires, werewolves, that kind of thing. So I would like to start a new game along these lines.

There are a few very strict rules that would be in place, however.

1. No emo characters. The monsters are not going to be dwindling in eternal damnation or abandoned by all humanity because they wah wah wah, just no.
2. The monsters in this particular game would differ slightly from the traditional aspects. They would be more like races alongside humans than deviant mindless neck and flesh nomming brutes. Sort of like this: if humans evolved from apes, then vampires evolved from bats and werewolves evolved from wolves. Or...something.
3. Being a monster doesn't give you an outrageous sex drive, sorry.
4. NO EMO.

And that would be pretty much it. And, like in most of my games, I would like at least five to seven sentence posts, and decent grammar. *shrug* Sorry, that's just who I am!

I have a few ideas for plot and the like. But first I would like to know if there are any biters on the idea at all. If anyone is curious, let me know and I will post more about the specifics of the various monsters and the world and the game and so on and so forth.

I'm in for for a few different races if they make the list. Werewolf, Fomorian, Centaur, Dwarf, Jötunn, Cu Sìth or maybe Underwater panther/Gichi-anami'e-bizhiw'copper cat

This sounds good, especially the non-emo part. I'm in, and I'd like a list of the races to see what I would pick in this case. And yeah, plotline would be nice to have.

Hmmm monstahs? Whats the setting Jadester? Modern, Medieval, Future? Oh yeah what about angel/demon/werewolf/vampire animie style stupid nonsensical inbred monstahs who logically have no way to breed with two hundred pound katanas of slaying and one wing and a tail and red eyes? Because you know it could happen...

Haha, Skall, you are such a punk XD

Well, here are the basics of what I was thinking. Certain things, like the setting and location, are still just very rough. I would easily consider a medieval/fantasy world instead, but I think the one I have set up would be an interesting change.

Setting: Modern...ish. (The basics of modern day earth, though details about government and businesses and the like would not likely be the same, if only for the sake of creativity).

Location: Starting out in America

Most common playable races:
Human
Vampire
Werestuff
Centaur
Witch/Warlock
There will obviously be some openness to other races, but if someone wants to play a specific kind of race other than those listed, it would have to be approved by me.

Specifics about the races:
Human: Dur. Average lifespan is 110 years.

Vampire: Not the emo neck nibblers whose souls are damned. In this situation, a vampire is a being who can (CAN, not MUST) sustain themselves off of the blood of other creatures. However, they can also live off of regular nutrition that humans survive off of. They do not melt in sunlight. However, what with their preference for the nightlife (as a result of their blood-loving ways) vampires frequently sport pale skin and a certain light-sensitivity. Average life-span is 200 years. Vampires have the ability to shift shape for a limited time (longer than an hour without changing back often causes great pain or difficulty in changing back), usually just into a humanoid bat-form, bat form, and a mist form to allow for quick travel. Particularly talented vampires can take on the form of a favored animal. Vampires also tend to prefer a more aristocratic lifestyle, perhaps due to their extended lives.

Werestuff: The most common is the werewolf, but a few other varieties exist (such as werepanthers, werejaguars etc.). Werefolk most often walk around in a normal-looking human form, but are said to look a bit shaggier than regular people. Their hair and nails grow about twice as fast as that of a normal human, and they have a preference for barely cooked meats. There are two forms, aside from their human one, that they have the ability to take on. Their animal-like form is humanoid, and generally quite powerful. They have the ability to change into their animal-like forms at any time, except for the full moon, when they take on the natural animal form of their were-selves. While in their animal and animal-like form, werecreatures maintain their normal personalities and thoughts, along with the gift of speech. Their cultures are usually open, small communities, with children being raised communally and all belongings being placed into a pool to support the society as a whole. Average lifespan is 120 years.

Witch/Warlock: An otherwise normal human who is gifted with a talent for magic. This often requires years of study, both with incantations and proper potion brewing techniques. Some have mastered longevity brews, but these are extremely difficulty and ridiculously expensive for their rarity. Average lifespan is 110 years.

Centaur: Some sort of horse from the waist down, human from the waist up. Finding it difficult to reside indoors, they are generally not seen alongside the other races. Average lifespan is 150 years.

Any thoughts?

LOL I think you could actually make an argument for those...a very desperate, grasping-at-straws argument. I considered putting trolls or ogres or something on the list, but for whatever reason I didn't. Meh. Maybe if someone desperately wants to be one.

Well, in my humble opinion, Witches/Warlocks are usually seen as people who have natural magic abilities from making pacts with demons/devils. Wizards and Sorcerors are more along the lines of what you described - unless you simply want to change stereotypical semantic for your game. I also think that natural ability makes for more interesting roleplay than the study element, but having both would be useful and add variance.

That is a valid point, and indeed there are many differences between the traditional, classical methods of becoming/identifying one of these monsters and the ones used in this game. The thing is, there are so many differences in the original versions themselves that I decided to just null most of them an crank out my own to be a basis for the entire game to avoid confusion. And yes, natural ability can be very interesting, but I do prefer a combination of natural ability and study. It makes for more character growth, in my opinion.

What about a human that is a monster hunter?
It's not always that easy to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. Sinners can surprise you
and the same is true for saints. Why do we try to define people as simply good or simply evil? Because
no one wants to admit that compassion and cruelty can live side by side in one heart.
And that anyone is capable of anything.

Commies? They're commies? I always though of werewolves as more an elective monarchy, I mean with their hierarchical pack structure and all.

Also, could we have fishmen? Y'ha N'thlei is deeper than you know. And we Atlantic fishmen are at war with the Pacific fishmen...
