Okay.... ( )

Postby missa_wiccan_chick on Thu Jul 24, 2008 4:37 pm

I need some help getting the introductions of Role plays started. No one seems interested. I try to make them as elaborate as possible, but when it's all said and done, they usually die after a few days.
I don't know if it's me or if i just don't have the best rp ideas.
Help!!!
Some one!!! Please!!!
thank you.

I like brainstorming....what kind of themes do you like?

Sometimes making things elaborate isn't as important as making things clear. You want people to roleplay WITH you, not just um under you. In order to be able to do that they need to understand the world you're putting them in.

Hehe yea...I usually don't go for any fiction-based rp. Too much pressure to keep to the book or w.e.

Well your first description of the rp post shouldn't be too long. You can always make an info thread, or add stuff later. Give them enough information so they know how to post (species, powers, rules, general world description, how to apply...) but not too much so their afraid to ask stupid questions. If your whole post doesn't fit on your screen, and they're aren't any pictures, then it's probably too long. Splitting it up into a few posts or using the code formatting thing can help break it up if it has to be longer.

Formatting it nicely helps attract people because it shows immediately how much work you did in making the rp. Find an example on the forums if you're not sure how to format things like bullets or something. For that matter it might be useful to look for an rp that IS successful and see how they set it up.

Also it's good to post it when a lot of people are on so they see it under "New Topics." It's probably not a good idea to put one up at noon or something.

That's all I have for now....I need to sleep....good night ^^.

Um, about the length thing, I'm afraid you can be severely wrong there ... Really, the main thing is luck and fate. If you happen to post it at a good time, when there are loads of people on, then great. As for the length, it really depends on what you are writing about, and if its actually needed. For example, an RP I recently started had at least a page's worth of description, plot-line, rules and character skeleton, by the next day I already had four members ! Of course, it was a popular type of RP (Pirates ...), so it's not utterly surprising.

But you're here to RP, if you feel like writing, write, just make sure it has a point. Depicting how the god of weasel fertility looks for example, isn't exactly needed, so you can skip that. Now, another thing, is to make it gripping, and as perfect as you can. That means writing at your best, and making the least number of faults possible. Remember, the opening post is what people remember most, don't give them a bad impression from the start.

I suggest never starting your RP with stuff like, "Im new, this is a small RP and stuff, i'm not looking for much, but just be nice with me and join. It'l be fun." Trying to be cute and cuddly from the start, without even explaining what you're talking about won't get you anywhere. Another thing is the title. Gods, the title ! It's gotta be clear, perfectly written, typos and errors are NOT allowed, and gripping. Whenever you can, try to get a title from word go, rather than "RP idea, NEEDS PEOPLE !!!" ... To me, that's just desperate and incompetent, a bit harsh, but again, it's a first impression which doesn't leave a good image.

Now, the OP has to contain everything you need, and as I stated, PERFECT ! As little typos and stuff as possible, and nice sentences. Proof read, as many times as needed, and also make it reasonably long. That's all that really springs to mind. Hope it's helped, and all, and feel free to ask more questions.

It does take just a tiny bit of luck. Normally make sure you post your awesome ideas when a lot of people are on.

I tend to start off posting in the OOC forum, get people interested first. That way they can give you more ideas, and interact more with the creative side of the role play. After that it's just setting things up.

When you create, there are a few things you want to remember.

Hook them in. (Quotes tend to work well)
Fill them in. (Just a small amount of information)
Reel them in. (Now that you've got them hooked, and baited, make sure they can't go away by providing some story something compelling that makes them want to read what else happens; or what they can do.)

If you want to do a mock beginning, you have several options. Either ask for a teacher at the Role Play Academy, post that to him/her and he/she will tell you what's good and bad, just post it in this thread and get opinions from the whole community, or post it to someone who's already answered. Just choose and write.
