Path of Atonement (OOC) ( )

Postby Protoman X on Sun Sep 07, 2008 11:13 pm

One year has passed since Marrik's great duel against Lancelot du Lac. He saw his mother slain, and left the battle in a fit of rage. He went to the castle of Iweret, and angrily mourned his mother's death while destroying the enchanted mirrors that had been set up in the foyer. Then, the ghost of Iweret appeared, revealing to Marrik that he was his father. Iweret warned Marrik to atone for his many sins, lest he suffer eternity in Hell's fires like his father and mother before him. When the spirit left, Marrik was left stunned, he began reading the bible. He decided to take his father's advice and atone for his sins. He threw away his evil sword called Regalia, and took up a new greatsword he named Redemption, and has since been trying to do as much good as possible. He remodled the castle to be a refuge, replacing the dungeons with storage rooms. But is even this enough to atone for his many sins? The fact is, it will be impossible for Marrik, at least if he is to do it alone.

This is an RP that takes place one year after the events of the thread titled "Under the Lake", started by daughterofdon. The story tells of Marrik, once Lancelot's greatest rival, trying to atone for his evil deeds after witnessing the death of his mother, and his father's ghost warning him of Hell. This doesn't necessarily center Marrik alone, but all the friends he can come to make along the way as well. He may even run into his old rival Lancelot, but how will Marrik be able to face the one he once lived to kill?

That in mind, this is an Arthurian-based roleplay, so we're looking at a time period of 12th century according to the legends.

Credit for the story and the characters go to my dear friends: daughterofdon, Jadeling Hawkings, Kohannaninja, Applepoisoneer, and aikiwarrior. Thanks guys, and I hope you join!

If you wanna join, just post a profile similar to mine. When I think we have enough people, I'll start the IC thread.

~My Characters~

Name: Marrik
Title/role: None
Age: 19 ( Was 18 in "Under the Lake")
Gender: Male
Race: Half-Fey
Appearance
Image
He wears these clothes, minus the katana.
Abilities: An excellent swordsman. He has trained with various types of swords including the greatsword, falchion, war sword, and his favorite, the longsword. He has the power to change his appearance thanks to the Changeling Cloak he wears, and can summon his old sword at will, but refuses to do so.
History: He was concieved when Mab had an affair with Iweret the Black Knight. His existence was kept secret and he was trained to rival Lancelot. He committed many evil deeds in his time. Once, in a fit of impatience, he slaughtered a defenseless farming village. When the time came for him to battle Lancelot, Marrik found he also had to face a woman with Lancelot named Alanna. Fierce as he was, he still lost, barely escaping with his life just after watching Lady Vivienne's son Mabuz kill his mother. He swore vengence, but when his father's ghost came to him, warning him to repent or burn in hell, Marrik took back his vow of vengance, now vowing to atone for his sins, no matter the cost.

Posessions
1. Greatsword called Redemption: It was found in Iweret's armory. Marrik called the sword Redemption, for he hopes that his redemption will be gained through that sword.
Image

2. Longsword called Regalia: It was created solely for Mab's champion in her domain. It has two main enchantments. The first enchantment is it's power to cut even dragon's hide. The second allows the weapon to reappear in its master's hand should he be disarmed. He no longer carries the weapon but can summon it at any time, but he refuses to ever use it again. Oddly enough, if he holds Regalia, his old Devil's Eyes returns to him, but only while he has this sword. The reason for this is a complete mystery, for the Devil's Eyes was an enhantment on Marrik's eyes, not Regalia.
Image

3. Changling Cloak: A cloak from Mab that allows the wearer to appear as anyone they've seen with their eyes.

...

Name: Semya
Title/role: None
Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Race: Unknown
Appearance: Sandy brown hair covered his head and his cheeks. That same fur covered his arms, legs, neck, back, and tail. The only bare parts of his body are his chest, palms, and the soles of his feet. He wore a half-length, open vest of a red color. He wore pants whose legs were somewhat puffed out and stopped just above his ankles. Apparantly, a white sash was used a belt. He wore no shoes, because his feet were oddly shaped like hands and thus would fit into any shoes. His only apparant weapon was an ornate rod that appeared to be red with golden tips.
Abilities: A master shapeshifter, Semya can transform himself into almost any form. He can even pluck his own hairs from his body and transform them into various things, such as people or even copies of himself. He is extremely agile and has a near perfect ability to remain balanced while standing on his feet or his hands. His most combat-oriented skill his rod's ability to extend or shorten its length at its master's word. While he does seem potentially formiddable as a combatant, he actually dislikes fighting, preferring to play games and tricks, and even treats battles with such manners.

Trickster he may be, Semya is far from evil. His tricks and pranks tend to be childish, meant primarily to make people laugh. According to Semya, laughter is the ultimate medicine. His very odd goal is to bring humor and laughter to everyone in the world, and he can be very persistant if someone proves difficult to make laugh.

I want to be a part of this; most definitely! You've got a good summary of what happened with Marrik before, but I still think it might not contain enough information for newcomers. Everyone should know that this is Arthurian-based, time period is 6th century in history, but 12th century in fashion/tradition (weird I know, but that's how a lot of Arthurian fiction turned out).

Also, do you have any idea of what you want Marrik to go through? I would love to be Elaine, but I realize that he probably won't meet her this early. But perhaps I can be a character that shows up at his refuge. I'll ponder on it while I'm at school.

Ok, DoD, I added in the time period like you suggested. And if you want to be Elaine, then that's ok, but as you said, we won't be able to bring her in right away.

Well, being Elaine would be cool... but perhaps I'd rather have someone else do it, if I'm going to write for both Elaine and Lancelot. It's kind of like Aiki's qualms about playing both Tristan and Isolde.

I'm too busy to produce a profile right now, but I still want to be in this. I wonder how you might get other people to join... Hmmm...

You can be whomever you wish. Althought a friar would make more sense as priests tend to run churches.

Do you plan on having Marrik travel at all, or is this mostly going to take place at the castle he inherited from Iweret?

Speaking of Iweret, I could bring his ghost back if you wanted... And I can have Dame Brisen come back as well. Oh! And perhaps I could bring in Elaine after all... maybe she could have discovered Brisen's mirror linked to the castle and sneak in??

Woah! I could totally reinvent Elaine's character. Maybe she doesn't love Lancelot after all--but she is being pressured to hook up with him by her father, because he wants to the the grandfather of the Grail hero! Holy cow-- I think this would be great! Okay. I must write for Elaine...

Here's a profile for Elaine. Let me know if you approve!

Name: Elaine of Corbenic
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Race: Human

Appearance: She has mousy brown hair, pencil-straight, and grown down to her waist. She has not quite grown out of the pudginess of her adolescence, although she is pleasant in her plumpness. She has a pretty moon face, with a small mouth, small nose and bright blue eyes. Her clothes are typical of a twelfth century lady. She wears a rose-colored bliaut and a simple veil.

Background: She is the daughter of King Pelles, of the castle Corbenic. She has grown up, secretly knowing the prophesy that she is to bear the son of Sir Lancelot, who will be the knight who finds the Grail. Her father is very proud of the fact that his family is descended from Joseph of Arimathea, and he believes that his House is meant to join with the House of Lancelot, from which both lines Galahad the pure knight will be descended. Or so the prophesy claims.

Elaine’s mother died when she was young, and so she has been reared mostly by her nurse, Dame Brisen. Although she does not know the extent of her nurse’s powers…

EDIT: I want to make Elaine a couple years younger, so I have changed her age.

Dame Brisen became a nurse, huh? Not what I expected from her, but everything looks good.

Dame Brisen's always been a nurse (or handmaid--you know, a lady who cares for a young noble girl). She has those different disguises and all...

Perhaps you should advertise this in the advertisements thread, or the "roleplayers wanted" forum. And let people know the different types of characters available. For example:

--Knights
--Soldiers
--Kings, Queens, Princesses, Princes, Lords, Barons, etc.
--Mercenaries
--Ladies
--Friars
--Orphans/Beggars/People in need of refuge
--Fairies/Half-fairies
--Enchanters/Enchantresses
--Giants
--Demons
--Monkey dudes
--Dragon dudes

Etc, etc. But a list should be helpful.

Name: Avetane Brumont
Age: 37
Class: Friar/Preacher
Gender: Male
Race: Human

Appearance:
Friar Brumont is a man of medium height, standing 5'5, and no strong build. Nay he is a pudgy man, a man who, in his own opinion, has been graced with the blessing of a soft, embracing exterior. That is how he would word it. He is a fat man. Not extraordinarily fat, but he has many to many pounds on him to be considered healthy, and he is in no way fit. The top of his head is a mess of brown, poorly cut short hair, and he is beginning to bald on his hairline. He keeps his round face relatively clean shaven, though he shows it with numerous cuts on his face from shaving.

He wears on him a ragged brown wrap with brown pants of the same tinge, looking more like a toga or gown than a shirt and pants, for he has a hard time finding clothes that fit him, and so he has learned to make clothes himself; a feat normally done by women, but as he is not effected by those kinds of prejudices, he does not care who makes what.

Around his neck is a necklace of deer skin, bearing on it a small sign of god, a cross. This is obviously his most valuable possession, as the cross is made out of a solid pearl. He never removes this garment, thinking himself naked without it and the blessing of god that it carries wit it.

He always walks with a walking stick. Had the man be fit, one could assume the stick is a staff suitable for combat it is of such fine craftsmanship, but Avetane is in no way fit, and he could only hope to dream of using his walking stick as a staff. Its true purpose is to help carry his weight across the solid earth.

Background:
Avetane was born in northern France, and he speaks the language fluently, though he has resided in Britain long enough to lose the french tinge to his speaking voice. His mother was a humble peasant, and his father a mighty priest in a very prominent Christian church.

Because of his father's position, he was tought well in the ways and laws of christianity, and though his parents made fierce attempts to force him to condemn those that do not fall under the one true god, Avetane was far too impressed by god's endless love for all to obsess over misgivings and wring doings long enough to hate people for them, in stead he would try and convert any unchristian behaviour from people to see his point of view, and so growing up people always believed he had a great patience and tolerance, but his parents saw this as weakness to condemn those against god.

Avetain was always a very jolly, friendly, and forgiving person, and he loved god with all his heart, and always tried to find the good in everyone, no matter how hopeless or dark they seemed to be, and despite his constant lack of wind from being terribly unfit, he was always able to talk at great lengths and with fierce passion about the holy Christ, God, and his Christian ways.

Avetain would constantly get into trouble from his parents and other priests for trying to help people not entirely Christian in their views, for he believed all were equal under god, no matter their station, position, religion, or beliefs, he just wanted to help people and pevent them from burning in eternal damnation. One day, he aided a female accused of heresy and witchcraft, and helped her escape the village from prosecution, for in his heart he truly believed she was innocent, and because of this he was run out of the village, despite his parents protests, and hunted. With his parents aid, he was able to escape on a ship to Britain, ware he pledged to spread the word of god. He also changed his surname to that of a British surname in an attempt to disguise himself from anyone who meant him ill will from France.

He was 7 at this point in his life, and he spent many a year traveling throught the small towns of Brittainy preaching the holy goodness of god to the common man, and aiding those in dire circumstances however he could. Never being wealthy enough to create a permanent station, and lacking the skills and knowledge to build one himself, he took to the road, preaching at every opportunity. He made little money, as he believed the word of god was free, and to exploit people for monetary profit in trade for his word was treason against god's will.

Avetain attempted many a time to gain approval into a church, but all found some flaw or another within him. Many refused him for his stern belief of not receiving money in turn for preaching, a belief in which he always tried to convert people to seeing, which many a preist did not approve of, and he was always to stubborn to see it their way. Some denied him for aiding anyone, including those condemned as blasphemers or sacrilegious. For one reason or another, he was always turned down from becoming a part of churches, and so he stuck topreaching to the poor and truly needy, something he considered much more virtuous.

Eventually during his travels, he encountered a man by the name of Marrik, who seemed to be looking for Christian preachers to aid him in his cause, so more than willing to help, Avetane Brumont sided himself to Marrik's cause, and aided him in spreading the faith of Christianity to any in need of help.

(hope that last part is ok with you Mozenwrath, couldn't think of any other reason to be there, lol. Ill change it if you want.)

Ok so here are the characters we have at the moment.

Marrik
Semya
Elaine
Dame Brisen (I think)
Friar Brumont

Think that's enough to start the IC or should we wait?

I think that would be enough. I'm just concerned that perhaps there will come a time when you have to write about Marrik as he is in this story, and as he is a year after (for the second thread). But, then again, you can choose to withold him entering the second thread. So yeah, that shouldn't be a problem.

Name: Stefan Harrenhal
Title/role: Mercenary for hire
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: Picture Attatched

Background:

Born in Britain, Stefan was soon thrown into the harships of a poor family. Though that woould all soon change. At the age of ten, Stefan had begun fencing, pretending to be a knight along with his friends. Only then did his father realize his talent in the art of swordsmanship.

His father saw this as a chance to gain profit, to end the suffering from hunger each and every long night. His father kept this a secret to himself until Stefan was 16. It was then that his father confronted him, presenting him with a sword that his father lied and said had found.

Stefan and his father soon became a source of entertainment, fencing with each other in populated places, such as inns, and street corners. Soon Stefan and his father were no longer poor, and could finally purchase enough food to fill their bellies.

But Stefan's joy quickly ended. As one night, his father was murdered, and all of their posessions were taken, all but the sword.

Four years later, Stefan still hunts the bandits that killed his father. He swears that one day, he will slay them with his father's sword.
