Phantom Core (Mecha/Elemental) Interest Check

Thinking about starting a roleplay, but don't have the idea completely finished? Post it here, not in the main OOC forum!
Hello and welcome to the Phantom Core interest check topic. Please enjoy your stay.

First let us discuss what will be basic mechanics of this roleplay. As the title implies, yes this is a elemental/mecha roleplay. The basic fighting unit is the Phantom Core, a type of Elemental Mobil Suit, or E-Mech for short, which can Bend. What is Bending you ask? Frankly the manipulation of the elements. The Phantom Cores; however are of course made of metal, but please no metal Bending. That would lead to auto hitting. Each Phantom Core has what is known as a Stalker Mode. The Stalker Mode allows the Phantom Core to become invisible to the naked eye and becomes undetectable by heat sensors. If two or more Phantom Cores enter Stalker Mode, each pilot can see each other’s Elemental Mobil Suit. Not only does Stalker Mode provide invisibility, but enhances the pilots Blood Lust. Sometimes this can lead to insanity.

There would be at most five Factions. Each Faction would have its own element along with its own unique parts and parts they specialize in. Pending on how heavy the firepower is on each weapon and the amount of protection that the Phantom Core’s armor would provide would determine how fast they move. Extra limbs would also affect how they maneuver and how heavy they are. Remember that Phantom Cores vary in a plethora of ways.

But what would they be fighting for? Well this will be open to you the roleplayers. I am very interested in your opinions as well. If you have any further recommendations or comments either PM me or post 'em here on this thread.

P.S: This is optional and I will leave this to a vote: Would you rather have Specters which are basically ancient Elemental Mobil Suits, very similar to the Phantom Cores, or just leave this portion out? Note: You CANNOT start out with a Specter, but rather earn them. I will PM you during the Roleplay that you may accept a mission to discover a Specter. Remember though Specters cannot be repaired as they are LIVING CREATURES FROM ANOTHER PLANET. Well in a sense, I guess. They feel pain and can speak telekinetically with their host. They pack more fire power and speed then a regular Phantom Core; however they can’t be repaired. And because you are Linked to your Specter the more damage it takes so does your character, the pilot.

Please take not I will NOT accept roleplayers who do not take the time and effort to make a worthwhile post. Make sure you use imagery and provide as much detail to the best of your ability. I will give one warning through PM. That's it. So any comments? Suggestions? I'm listening.

So how will the United Soviet Alliance take the war to mechs? Will they be the good or bad guys of this roleplay? If you have any ideas let me know. After all there are no such thing as stupid questions, just stupid answers. :P

What do you think. Sterotypically, commies are baddd. I dunno why, but yes, they are bad. And In every RP, the USA has never used mechs.

Yeah, this sounds pretty cool. Mech RPs are probably way overdone, but this one is actually unique.

First of all, about the Specters, before I cast my vote I would like to know more in-depth information about them. I.E., how they related to Phantom Cores, In what respects they are living creatures, etc.

Second, would there be any restrictions or regulations in the design of our characters' PCs? I imagine that in terms of power there would be rules, but how about form?

By the way, Vacilli, I'm still not stalking you.

I'm in. I don't know what else this is about, but you hooked me at 'mecha' and 'this appears to have something of a plot. That said, I too would like to know more about the Specters, although at the moment I say yes, include them: They'd be an incentive to RP better, and would go to those not likely to abuse them during gameplay.

And, since we appear able to suggest factions:

Faction Name: VERTEX
Faction Origin: International
Faction Backing: United States government, private financiers, Hollywood
Background: VERTEX began as a low-budget branch of the US military, working in tandem with private hobbyists and investors to create an actual war-machine. This expanded across border lines, and following a protected battle with US Homeland Security VERTEX was declared a special organization to itself. Due to its erratic makeup of scientists and talented geeks and mechaphiles, the fledgling group's first creations were for use in movies and games, eventually leading to the wildly popular mecha-game Heavy Metal League: Imagine paintball, but in giant robots in special enclosures. Using the tried-and-true American method of profiting off the common peoples' need for entertainment, VERTEX surpassed many of the long-standing Fortune 500 companies to become a mega-company in and of itself. Today VERTEX properly refers to the organization and its many interests; the combat branch still works with the American military, and is known as ANGELS. Certain members of ANGELS are genuine celebrities, complete with product endorsements and spots on TV.
Mecha Hallmarks: All mecha bear the VERTEX logo somewhere on their frames, the logo being an inverted V with an over-arching five stars. The mecha tend to be fast and hardy, with a reliance on big guns and no melee weapons, excepting a few pilots who modified their mecha for actual punching and kicking in combat. The mecha's designations generally follow the 'angelic name' pattern.
Preferred Weapons: Anti-Material Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher; Grenades (secondary)
Mecha Elements: Typically Fire and Wind.

* Edited to include Preferred Weapons.

Roleplaying Rules To Live By

1. Friends come and go. Enemies accumulate.
2. Always put your weapons where you can find them in the dark.
3. It's almost always a better day to live.
4. You can justify anything with a little effort.
5. No-one in life has unselfish reasons. This should include you.
6. Spend the extra cash/points to waterproof your gear.
7. Diplomacy boils down to saying "Nice doggy" while looking for a bigger stick.

I'll try to answer your question tomorrow or Saturday. I have some stuff to take care of right now. By the time I am finished it will be time for me to hit the bag. If I'm lucky I'll try to get some more info typed up by today.

Awesome, take your time. In the meantime, though, since everyone is liking them, I'm going to go ahead and vote for their inclusion. I'd hate to be a party-pooper. And they sound interesting enough already.

Since there are only five factions, I'd better get my idea in before all the slots are taken up.

The Chromium Orden Corporation
An international organization funded by control of various PMCs and subsidiaries. The company itself specializes in weapons research and development and supplies not only its own private military groups but also national armies worldwide. A prominent and especially wealthy subsidiary of the Orden is Hermann Technologie, which specializes in cryogenics and rail technology. The Orden's prime PMC is a cell known as Sphere, which is reputed for training some of the world's most deadly soldiers.

When I saw this I was all like "This looks like it could be fun." Then I read your post and the other eople's posts and was all like "This WILL be fun." I'd love to join this RP, can't wait for it to get started.

So, are we gonna do this? :D

It looks four people are willing to make a character, and more could possibly join if the idea is posted in RPers Wanted, so I'd say there's enough. But take your time, JD, a good roleplay always takes a little time.

I'll have the Combat Roles posted up soon. And as for your question Fiend: I will PM you with your consent concerning how the Specters are related to Phantom Cores, in what respects they are living creatures, and etc. The reason why I am PMing you upon request and why I'm not going to post it in this thread is simply as follows: There may be a variety of roleplayers who may later join who will want a sense of suspense. I like to keep my roleplayers at the edge of their seats with the usage of irony and foreshadowing. I'm afraid that a large portion of this roleplay may suffer if I give away bits and pieces of this information.

I don't mean to be cruel about what I have just posted nor do I intend to sound like it. I just want my fellow roleplayers to have an enjoyable experience. If anyone else would like this information concerning the Specters or the Phantom Cores contact me through PM. I warn you; however that this may lower your enjoyment value as the rp as it continues.

If hiding the information was your intent for the sake of the RP, farbeit from me to stop you! I'm happy not knowing anything more, if that's what it supposed to be all about. Thanks for considering me anyway, though.

I'd like some more common info, along the lines of the scale of the PCs. Are they like Gundams? What type of weapons can they use? Are weapons between Specters and PCs interchangable? Things along those lines, I think those questions are exactly game breaking. Make sure to post the link when your ready!

Very good question Hunter. I was thinking something simular to that of Gundams. Weapons will consist of lasers technology and explosives. As for weapons and other forms of technology be reasonable with your gear. I do NOT want to see weapons of mass destruction, anything that can auto hit, godmode, or powerplay. PC weapons and their equipment can be installed onto a Specter; however most gear already attached to a Specter once you claim it cannot be exchanged. To avoid confusion anything installed from a PC onto a Specter can be removed from the Specter and back onto any Phantom Core or another Specter.

This just came to mind: As for Combat Roles, I am debating either or not to have a chart for Custom Classes. You may mix and match different Combat Branches, each with their own numerical values with their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, let's say I were to mix the Sniper Class (4+ Points) and a Close Quarters Combat Class (2+ Points) This would create a Hybrid and I will allow you the roleplayers to name that Hybrid to your likening. The maximum amount of points, which anyone can have at one time, for right now would be 10. Point values are currently imminent as of right now.

The reason why I am implementing these Custom Classes and the Combat Branch (Titles pending) was to promote creativity and to balance out the future roleplay. I've seen some mech rps were just one mobil suit had every weapon under the sun and some mechs were unrealistically powerful. And on the plus side I think it will be very interesting to see what my fellow roleplayers can come up with.

So please vote and post any suggestions as usual. Your opinions count! I shall remain neutral in the vote as usual.

How about melee? I was kind of thinking of of a speedy mech that used a buster sword as a main weapon.

I was thinking about that too. Brawler Class sound good? In addition, could you possibly explain what a buster sword is in your words? What my definition may be different from your own. What I'm thinking of is Cloud's from Final Fantasy.

Buster Sword: A large sword, too large to be considered a claymore. However, it does not have the width to be considered a zweihander. Many times it is around three-fourths the size of the user, and requires both hands. While most strokes are broad and slow, speacilized training can increase swing speeds.

Very grand description. I approve.

I'll try to be on later tonight. There's about to be a storm were live pretty soon and I'd rather not run the risk of injury.
