Yoho, yoho, a pirate's life for me

Indeed, the pirates are still roaming our seas. They come with different weapons, new tactics and new meanings for their lives. They hunt down our ships and try to ruin the normal way of the human society. Most of the time they just stay out at sea. We don't know where they sail to, or what they are looking for but they are out there.

News of a new pirate attack is spreading fast. The prime minister of England's daughter has been seized by these bloody creatures and taken aboard one of their ships. We shall fight and may the sea soon be ours.

This is where your story starts. Maybe you are a pirate, living the life of sword fights and whiskey, pirate songs and laughter. Maybe you're a British solider. You're out to save the princess and return her to her beloved father. Or perhaps you are the pirate captain, maybe even the kidnapped daughter yourself.

But whatever role you take in this story, may the sea be yours.

--

Captain Nicholas Evans was standing on the deck. His callous, large hands were on his hips as he stared out at the serene, deep blue water of the ocean. The sun had rose only a few hours ago meaning it was probably seven in the morning but the time never really mattered.

He moved swiftly as he jumped down the stairs and onto the lower level of the ship. The kitchen was dark and there was no longer a cook working there. Somehow Nicholas had gotten a bit angered a few days ago when there was no more rum left and he had sent one of the men to toss the chef overboard. Now he was starting to regret it. There still was tons of food but Nick didn't know how the hell to cook and so he usually sent Keira or Sunday to do the cooking. Especially now that they had one new girl on board, there needed to be more food prepared. That girl. It reminded him that he should probably be letting the girl out of the cage now. He had left the girl inside of a barred box that was around six feet tall and four feet wide.

The air was cool as he moved down to the sleeping quarters. In the wide hallway was the cage and a dark smile fell upon the captain's slim face as he eyed the girl. The shiny, silver key slid into the key hole and the rickety door swung open. "Come on, my love. Morning is here and I'd like to introduce you to the crew."

They had kidnapped the girl yesterday while they raided a major English village. The English military wasn't ready for the pirate's strong tactics and when Nick had snuck into the palace it was too late for them to stop the kidnapping. It was only hours ago that they had brought the girl on board and Nick was going straight to his quarters after locking the girl up.

"Oh, and what is your name, dear?"

Deck of the Spirit of Fire

*Akram Raja, Bosun of the Spirit of Fire, stood on the deck overlooking his men. They were a stalwart bunch, the few dissenters that were on board were either scared into submission or killed off by now. Raja stood tall, his skin shining in the morning sun. The massive man cast a shadow over the new man he had scrubbing the deck, the man who a day earlier had tried to cop a feel on one of the female crew. The man was lucky Raja did not shoot him on the spot, but it was an honest mistake, and if he did not learn his lesson soon then he would die regardless. Raja shot the man a cold, deathly stare and watched the man jump and begin to work harder. The Bosun laughed to himself and took out his pipe and a bag of tobacco. He filled his pipe and lit a match, lighting the pipe and puffing on it to get it going. He smoked and laughed, writing down the morning's status report on a bit of parchment, surveying the deck until the captain returned.
Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand. I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me.

The eleven year old, Sunday, was running around the deck. She'd start off at one end, peering out at the deep water and then bound to the other side, knocking throught the crowd of angry, tired men until she had reached the other end. It was her form of entertainment and it took a lot of the bundles of energy out of the girl. She was now sprinting down to the far end of the Spirit of Fire when she rammed into Raja. The huge man didn't move an inch as the petite child slammed into him but Sunday didn't expect him to. He was so large, so strong, that she was sure a bullet could bounce off the guy.

"S'ry sir!" She said as she ran past him gripped the edge of the boat in delight. She stared out at the endless sea before turning back around. Most of the crew were out waiting for orders from the captain or one of the highest ranking men and Sunday could make out some of their anxious, excited expressions. There was word that a girl had been kidnapped and was on board. A girl that was English royalty and it was driving those dirty men insane. It brought a grin to Sunday's face, though, because she knew once any of them touched the girl they'd have their throat cut by Raja, Aiden or the captain himself.

"Sir, is there really an English lady aboard?" She asked as she jumped back over to the towering man, her eyes staying on the man scrubbing instead. Sunday didn't really feel bad for the guy because most likely he deserved it. Unlike the men and the other crew members, Sunday wasn't punished often, mainly because she was much younger than the others and because the Captain did owe his life to her father. But the young girl did easily piss people off and on most of the accounts she'd be pushed around behind the captain's back.

A mischievous chuckle erupted from Aiden's throat as he watched one of the large brutes on board took a gulp of alcohol laying around deck, knowing the reaction that he would have. The man was smiling madly as he chugged and chugged it down for several seconds then finally, you could see the visible recognition of exactly what he was drinking. A disgusted expression coated his face and finally, he spit the liquid he hadn't already swallowed on the wood beneath him.

"In hell?" he hollered angrily "Which bilge-sucking scally-wag thinks it funny ta' put fish paste in the grog?" He then swivelled his body around in several directions looking at as many faces as he could in order to find a suspicious looking one. When no one responded he screamed, even louder an award-worthy "Hey!"

After watching the scene unfold, Aiden grinned like a dog and searched for the Bosun, Raja, knowing that he'd seem less suspicious if he surrounded himself with the people who would punish him. What kind of fool would stay around an individual who had permission to pop you one outside the head if you misbehaved, directly after misbehaving? 'A clever one.' he answered himself inwardly. He smirked and approached the angry looking man, noticing that the little lass, Sunday , was conversing with him.

"Ello, my hearties!" he chimed without listening to the conversation that had previously been holding.

*Raja had noticed the little girl running about the deck, harassing the crew and having what seemed to be a good time. He liked her, she was a free spirit, something this ship needed. As she bumped into her, he paid little heed, instead concentrating on the ruckus the First Mate was causing. Not that it mattered, a little harmless fun was perfectly alright, as long as it did not harm the ship, and surely, that little exchange would not. Raja came out of his thoughts when he heard Sunday chirp up at him.*

(In a very deep voice and thick Indian accent:) "English Lady aboard? No, I don't know anythin' 'bout that Miss Sunday."

*Raja placed the finished status report parchment through his belt and put one of his massive hands on the girl's head, patting her gently.*

"But I wouldn't worry 'bout it. The Captain has never steered us wrong 'fore, and he won't do so now."

*Raja slightly ruffled Sunday's hair as Aiden spoke.*

"Mornin' to you Sir. How is our First Mate today?"

Aiden smiled at the kind words the older mate used. It always seemed odd to him that Raja could be so cruel to every one but himself, Sunday, and the Captain. Well, he was required to respect Cap'n Nick, but still. He sighed contently and leaned back, propping his elbows on the man who was scrubbing the deck's shoulder, as if building up the suspense to his simple reply.

"I'm perfectly dandy this morn. How 'bout ya'self?" He cooed, closing his eyes and lifting his face towards the heat of the blistering sun. It wasn't as soothing as he would have liked considering he was stabling himself on a man who was repeating the same large motions over and over again, causing him to bob like a float on a fishing pole.

"Wait, 'fore ya' answer that question, lemme ask another. The pretty lil' english lady, where'd Nick stow her away?" Aiden perked up in curiousity and couldn't help but notice Sunday's eyes gleam at those words. He thought back on his phrasing and wondered what he said that would excite her so.

Bowen entered behind the captain.

"Her name is Abigail Sir." William brought in the tray of food for the girl. He placed it down and exchanged a glance with her. A slight smile could be mestaken on both faces if anyone looked hard enough.

Bowen had been put in charge of looking after the girl. She was beautiful.

"Sir, would it be possible to leave the cage open now? I know she is to be kept a secret for the time being, but she has promised me she wouldn't leave the room. I will keep extra watch. I feel it would be better to be more acomidating and show your true graces." Bowen knew that the Captain could be a good man. Bowen also hated to see the girl locked in the cage. He had tried to be as accomidating as possible while she was there, but only the captain had the key, or else Bowen would have let her out earlier, while no one was around.

*Raja half-smiled at the First Mate.*

"Like I told Miss Sunday, I don't know anythin' 'bout no English Lady. As for myself, I would be better if lubbers like this didn't think they had free roam!"

*Raja shouted the last half of that sentence at the man scrubbing the deck, and gave him a swift kick to the ribs, sending the man to the deck hard. Raja laughed and shouted to a short, round man watching over the deck below.*

"Mr. Walls, put this worthless dandy ta' work, something awful."

*A raspy "Aye, aye" came from the bearded man, and he quickly dragged the other man down into the ship's hold. Raja patted Sunday on the head again and turned back to Aiden.*

"Sorry 'bout that Sir. But like I said, I feel just fine."

*Raja smoked his pipe and smiled...*

When the man Aiden had been resting on was kicked and skedaddled away, he was left trying his best to stabilize himself, doing the body motions a surfer does when he is in the tube of a wave. A few ‘woah’ s later , and he was back to his original, cocky composure. He looked around for a couple of seconds before glancing at Sunday, shrugging, and then doing the same to her that he had been doing to the man who was probably having a bad day.

“Eh, no worries, mate. I jus’ thought you , of all people on this deck, besides Cap’n Nick himself , would be the one with the answers, yeah?” he states , waving one of his hands in the air nonchalantly as he did. “Well, then. Do you know if we’ll be gettin’ any excitement t’day , or am I goin’ to have to provide my own again? “ He inquired further.

Keira was waiting on board when she caught Sunday doing her normal sprints up and down the ship. She watched as the little girl banged into Hawk and Keira rolled her eyes quickly. That kid was going to get into trouble some day. But Keira knew that Raja wasn't a bad man, atleast not to Sunday.

She walked towards Sunday and Hawk, then seeing that Aiden had joined in on the conversation. She ran her hand through her wavy brown hair as she neared them, putting on a small smile. "Mornin' mates," She said as she looked around at them. "We got anythin' goin' on this mornin'?" She asked, then remembering the exciting raid that had taken place the night before. They had basically looted an entire English village and word on the boat was that the captain had managed to kidnap some form of royalty.

"Why, my dear Keira, tis 'sactly what I was jus' asking 'bout." Aiden gushed while correspondingly wrapping an arm around her shoulder slyly and freeing Sunday of his weight. "I guess compatible minds think alike, yeah?" he added just for the affect.

Was this the safest thing to do? No, Aiden would give you that. But surely he'd say that no real pirate would ever take the safe way out if the dangerous one could give you fun, loot, alcohol , thrill , or women. We swung his head over to look at her and batted his eye lashes, dramatics ensued.

*Raja tipped his hat to Keira as she approached, he had always enjoyed her company on the ship, the beautiful young woman was a nice distraction from the occasional troubles that came from a life of piracy.*

"Mornin' to you Miss Keira, pleased to see you're doin' well."

*He replied to Aiden and Keira's questions in one sentence while she smoked his pipe.*

"No, I can't rightly say I know what's goin' on today. Right now jus' a' waitin' on the Captain, same as every mornin'.

*Raja watched as Aiden moved to Keira. Now, normally the Indian would have broken a lesser man for that, but the members of the "main crew" of the Spirit of Fire, were a tight group, almost like a family, so he knew that it was all in good fun. As such, Raja let it go and smoked his pipe, exhaling rings of smoke into the air...*

Sunday only kept her attention on the men while they spoke of the new girl who had been captured. She attempted to shove Aiden off of her but no later he had lifted himself off because Keira had arrived. Aiden spoke to her in a flirting manner and Sunday knew that he did it to all the older women on board. He was such a player. Hawk followed along but in a cleaner, more formal manner.

"Don't let 'em dirty bastards trick ya, Keira. They only want you for your body!" She said, knowing Keira would probably get angry at her for talking like that or interrupting her time with Aiden but Sunday didn't really care. It wasn't like Keira was in charge of her.

Aiden immediately dropped his arm from Keira after Sunday's comment had sunk in. He gave her a look that could imply the words "Did you really just do that?" just as well as saying them could. He then slapped his forehead and let his hand drag all the way down his face, stretching the skin and making his face look temporarily deformed.

"Aw, Sunday! Why ya' gotta ruin my chances with everyone like that? You wreck the mood, ya know." he complained pathetically, clearly exasperated. He then took the liberty of ruffling the young girl's pretty hair with his rough, calloused hands. After he was done, the hair aligned perfectly again causing Aiden to scowl.

Keira meerly rolled her eyes as she tried to push the approaching grin off of her tanned face. It was easier to do so once the little brat, Sunday, had began to speak about how the men were only talking to her for her body. Keira knew most men, especially pirates, were like this and Aiden and Hawk most likely were too but she trusted them just a bit more. Her chocolate colored eyes glared down at the kid and she waited until Aiden had finished ruffling her hair before Keira lightly kicked the child in the knee. She did love Sunday like a younger sister but sometimes she just went a bit too far with her comments.

"Sunday, Capain wants ya to head down to the kitchen and wash somethin'," She said lightly, her gaze turning into more of a serious one. Of course the captain hadn't said this but she needed to get the kid away. Keira then turned, looking out at the ocean. "Beautiful mornin' ain't it?"

Aiden nodded towards Raja, signally that he had heard him and understood. Then, as quickly as he had jerked his hand down from Keira, he put it back- in its rightful spot. Always one for flattery he supplied the corny line of "Not nearly as beautiful as yerself, me dear." before resting his head gingerly on her shoulder, the long dreadlocks in his pony tail spilling onto her back.

He fluttered his eyes closed for a second and reopened them only to see a large, angry man who had his grog contaminated with fish stalking towards him with a furious look of rage on his face. His eyes widened three times their normal selves and he jumped back, retreating from Keira and drawing his blades at the same time.

"Now , now, mate. What's got ya' so angry?" he inquired, a fake curious look on his face. The man did not give him the wonders of a sentence and instead settled for an almighty "ARGH!" in the midst of him charging for Aiden. He laughed heartily as he jumped around, practically dancing circles around the sluggish brute. "I'm afraid I don't know what that means, mate!" he said in between fits of loud chuckles."Keira, do ya' speak his tongue? How 'bout you, Raja?"

Deep breaths, deep breaths. Inhale...exhale...inhale...exhale...

Sam, not able to resist any longer, allowed her eyes to flicker open. She had been half hoping that she'd find herself safe in her bed chambers, with Hattie and Alissa hovering about with such delicious familiarity, and that this whole thing was some sort of crazy hallucination. Of course, she was wrong, but Sam couldn't help but feel a faint twinge of disappoint meant as she was met with the same dank and dreary walls of her little prison that had been there two hours ago.

Now, being kidnapped from her own room she could deal with. Heck, being locked up in a cage just big enough for her to fit into she could deal with. But what she could not deal with was the fact that the cage was on a huge boat, currently sailing through the ocean to God knows where. The ocean. The dark, bottomless ocean, with it's merciless foamy waves, threatening to engulf her...

Sam suddenly found herself struggling to breath in that tiny little cage, and the rocking of the boat, a constant reminder that she was not on dry, safe land, did not help. Curling up into a tight little ball-which proved slightly difficult, considering the ridiculously excessive, emerald green skirts of her gown-she squeezed her eyes shut again. I'm not here, I'm not here, I'm not here...

Her little chant was interrupted by the door to her cell being flung open. Sam squinted against the sudden intensity of the light, pouring in from the upper deck. She could hear the faint cry of seagulls, and the insistent sound of the waves, battering at the boat's wooden flanks...

No. She couldn't think like that, not if she was working on a no-vomiting strategy. Inhaling deeply, Sam forced herself to focus on the towering silhouette that took up most of the door. As her eyes adjusted to the light, she could make out a slightly smug smile spread across the man's burly features, and a mischievous glint in his eye. Typical pirate's expression, as she'd learned.

With a huge amount of effort, Sam managed a defiant smile, hoping that this man, whom she guessed to be running things, didn't notice her shaking limbs as she sat up. "Samantha. Samantha Marcuse." She was pleased to find that her voice didn't waver, despite the fact that her insides felt like goo.

*Raja had watched the light exchange between Aiden, Sunday, and Keira, but paid the charade little heed. Again it was all in good fun. What he did not pay little heed to was the drunken sailor that had gone for the First Mate. Immediately, Raja's face changed from a thoughtful one to that of absolute rage, and he hoisted the man over his head, tossing him over the deck railing and into the waves.*

"Mr. Walls! Ready a line! We've another poor sod to haul on board."

*Raja headed to the railing and watched the man splash about in the open sea. Raja couldn't make his face out, but he was sure the man was sober now, and laughed at his misfortune, smoking his pipe with bliss...*

Jack hung above everyone's head on a hanging rope like a rat.
"'Ello mates!" She called down, obviously in a good mood today-a very rare thing for her. Hanging upside-down expertly she spat on Aiden's head and laughed, almost falling off of the rope.
"S'ry Aiden! C'oun't 'elp meself!" Aplogizing, her Irish accent was easy to catch. She laughed again and swung back onto the rope. Standing on the rope barefoot, Jack walked up and down the rope, jumping also and landing masterfully back on the rope with ease.
