Connecting to the IRC Chat:You may frequently hear of talk about the "IRC chat" in this website's chat. It refers to our rooms in the SurrealChat network. That is the usual location for most roleplaying regarding the Terra plotline; that is to say, one large part of the Multiverse, the all-encompassing roleplay linking all types and forms of roleplaying together.
A few warnings before you proceed further:
+This chat is NOT affiliated with RPGateway. It was at one time, but has since been unaffiliated, and simply remains the hangout of the regulars.
+This chat often contains mature content. If you or your parent/guardian cannot handle your viewing of this, do not bother coming.
+This chat does not operate under the standard rules of RPGateway. There is often flaming and the like -- this chat is ruled by Administrator/Moderator (known as Operators in there) discretion, and a moderator may remove you from the chat at any time, for any reason, and may punish the same offense in many different ways, or not at all.. Generally, we're accepting, but stupidity is rarely tolerated. That's not to say stupid conversations, we find ourselves in those often, but true stupidity -- which is again, at our discretion -- is usually frowned upon. And when I say frowned upon, I mean the user is usually ridiculed, flamed, and banned.
I hope these warnings haven't scared you off, it's truely an enjoyable place. If you have common sense and a level head, you should get along just fine. That said, here are the steps for connecting:
(If you already have a chat client and are familiar with connecting, than the information is: Host: irc.surrealchat.net Rooms: #GWing, #GWingOOC)
Step 1. Download mIRCNOTE:Optionally, pick up
XChat, but if you do this, I can't really help you -- I have no experience with it, so you'll have to read what I write here and try to apply it there.
NOTE 2: It says you have a 30-day trial and then you must pay, but in actuality, when your time is up, it merely flashes a screen at you for about ten seconds to register your copy, then goes away and everything's normal.
Step 2. Open and install the client.
Step 3. Click "Continue" on the first window that comes up.
Step 4. A window should pop up, fill out the information on the front however you want. Neither a real name or email is required. The nickname is the username you wish to use (Alphanumeric only, no spaces, no funky symbols), and the alternative is the name to be used if your first is already in use.
DO NOT CLICK "OK" WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH THIS STEP.Step 5. On the left side of the form you just filled out should be a series of options. Click on the "Servers" option. Click the "Add" button.
Description: Whatever you want, something like RPGateway, GWing, etc.
IRC Server: irc.surrealchat.net
Ignore the rest, click "Add," then "Connect To Server."
NOTE: There are a few things with "quotes" and <brackets> around them. Do NOT include the quatation marks or brackets when you type these in.
Step 6. Once all the messages finish flashing by, one of two things should happen.
A. Within 30 or so seconds, you receive one or more messages asking you to identiy or change your nickname. This means your chosen nickname has been taken, and you need to pick a new one. Type "/nick <your new nickname>" Once you have a nickname that isn't taken, proceed to step B.
B. Nothing occurs after 30 or so seconds, in which case, you want to register your nickname. Type "/ns register <whatever password you want> <your real email address>"
Step 7. Type in "/join #GWing" and "/join #GWingOOC"
That's it, for the most part. After this, when you open the mIRC client again, you need only click the "connect" icon up top (furthest on the left, looks like a lightning bolt) and, once the messages finish flashing by, type in "/ns identify <your previously chosen password>" There are a couple more additional steps you may wish to take, the first of which I HIGHLY recommend.
Optional Step 1. Click on your Options icon. It's the 2nd from the left up top, looks like a hammer next to a folder. Once the window pops up, click the "Options" option (why they have an Options group in the Options menu, I do not know, but click it). Click "Perform..." and, in the window that pops up, check "Enable Perform On Connect." In the blank box just below it, type the following:
/ns identify <the password you chose earlier>
/join #GWing
/join #GWingOOC
Click "OK" on that screen and "OK" on the Options menu behind it. What you've just done is set the program to automatically identify you and send you into our two usual hotspots. Remember this step, for you can add more to it when you are more familiar with the program and its commands.
Optional Step 2. This one is short and sweet. To change the colors in mIRC (I personally like a black background with green text and yellow actions), simply click the Colors icon, which is the 8th from the left, and looks like a bunch of differently colored crayons. Click the specific text you want to change the color of, then click the color you want from the list of them below it.
And that's the whole shebang! Enjoy.
