Pokemon: The Broken World

Plot:

The world of Pokémon was once a peaceful world full of peace and recreation. Humans were Pokémon trainers and they would compete in arenas to test their skills or show off how well they raised their Pokémon in front of large audiences.

These days are long over.

Humans and pokemon alike now live in fear of a threat no one thought possible. A weird plague has been spreading throughout the world. Those weak of mind succumb to it, the defiled. The Defiled is an unknown entity that turns pokemon and human alike into hideous monstrosities. If things go unchecked the world will be reduced to nothing. Pokemon trainers and the legendary pokemon have fought back but it seems their efforts are ineffective and the defiled grow stronger with each passing day. The populations of both humans and pokemon have dropped significantly as the world is slowly destroyed. The once vibrant world is now a wasteland full of darkness and a struggle for survival.

Hope isn’t lost yet. 40 years after the Defiled entered the world humans have been born with a special mark on their bodies. This special mark allows them to merge their souls with pokemon born with the same mark on their bodies. This special link allows both human and pokemon to bond as one allowing humans to obtain pokemon powers and allowing pokemon the power to communicate with humans.

Yet is there any hope left? Can humans and pokemon survive?

Mechanics:

You are one of these chosen humans who must fight the Defiled in order to save all life from destruction. You and your pokemon must fight together if you want to survive this harsh world. To increase you chances of survival you must find others who are like you and join forces.

Bonded pokemon can not be placed into poke balls since the pokemon refuses to keep their partner out of sight.

Humans have resorted to living in isolated barricaded cities, trying to preserve as many pokemon and human as possible. Traveling is made tough by the number of monsters created by the Defiled so most people never leave the city. Leaving a city is considered taboo.

It is only possible to fight these monsters if you are with you bonded pokemon and vice versa. Separation makes you temporally lose your powers and long term separation once you bonded causes death to both the human and pokemon.

The Defiled are the cause of all the chaos, they can take many forms but are mostly seen as a large black figure with multiple red eyes all over its body. If you are touched by one and do not have a bond with a pokemon you will instantly turn into a monster. If you have a bond it would take longer to turn into a monster and this process can be stopped by killing the defiled.

The Cursed Ones: These are what the monsters both humans and pokemon who have been corrupted by the defiled. They don’t have a set form but they slightly resemble what they once were. They only exist to kill and live on to kill any who aren’t cursed.

Birthmarks for Humans:
Birthmarks grant the human a special power once they bonded. They can be located anywhere on the body. The mark type must match the pokemon type.

A bonded pokemon can be understood by any human and their power increases faster than an average pokemon. Bonded pokemon cannot evolve normally, only under special circumstances. Birthmarks when used by pokemon let them use a move outside their move pool. For starting out, you can pick one ATTACK move of same type.

Name: Hideo Sonoma

Personality: Hideo is fairly talkative…to plants anyway; to humans he is somewhat shy or doesn’t really know what to talk about. Since talking to plants naturally helps them grow he gets into the habit of talking to the ones in his family’s farm. He needs to get to know a human or pokemon for a while before he can open up. His knowledge is about average, but his knowledge in botany is really high compared to others. He isn’t afraid to take charge and is tired of living his life in fear. Hideo is a coward at heart but tires to put on a brave front. The boy is afraid of fighting and about losing his own life or the life of his pokemon. When he is alone with his partner pokemon he is more carefree and open about himself.

History: Hideo was born into a world devoid of life, where people and pokemon feared for their lives. He was always told to be careful and always abided by the rules set by the city to keep the defiled away. Despite this he tried to make the most out of his childhood by taking care of the gardens that somehow brighten up the desolate city. His family had a small farm with helped grow food vital for the survival of the humans and pokemon so it was natural for him to be around plants.

When he turned 16, he met Turtwig who wondered into the town after being chased away from his home by the defiled. He befriended the Turtwig but in doing so he created a bond with the pokemon. The Tree birthmark glowed on his right hand while the Turwig’s Libra birthmark glowed on the backside of its shell. Suddenly the Turtwig could talk and be understood by humans. Hideo later found out that there were others like him that had similar powers and that they could be the key to restoring the world to normal. He vows to bring these special humans and pokemon together to destroy the defiled and bring back the once lush and green world

Personality: Synth is a very talkative pokemon unlike his partner and seems to do most of the talking. He only wanted to live a happy life so he vows to fight even if he would lose his life. He’d rather die trying than live on like a coward. This pokemon is very weary and doesn’t trust anyone except his partner, thus when he is alone with his partner he can smile and enjoy himself.

History: Turtwig used to live in a secret area beneath a forest hiding in fear of the Defiled with his family. When a Defiled raided their special area, he tried to fight but was shielded by his parents who scarified their lives and became cursed. He ran away with other pokemon promising to stick together no matter what, but when they were spotted by a defiled he wanted to stand and fight and avenge his family. These other pokemon did not agree and abandoned him, breaking their promise. Heartbroken and alone he ran away until he found a human city where he met his partner.

Name: Peregrine Roche, Lord Roche. Usually called Perry, by his friends.

Age: 19

Birthday: 21st November

Birthmark: The Eye, on the inner thigh of his right leg.

Weapon: An elaborately-chased eightball knurl, civilised, powerful and easily concealed. At short range, very little can escape the sheer stopping power of this snub-barrelled weapon. It has an ebony stock and gold chasework, and is a top-of-the-range custom model – aristocratic and quite, quite suited to Peregrine Roche.

Personality: Peregrine Roche is worldly, and appears at first meeting to be arrogant – he is sure of his place in the world and of his family’s money and influence. He has a tendency to be rather patronizing to those below him – not always intentionally, but he is a product of his environment and there are some things he takes for granted that others do not. He is courteous and kind, however, to those he considers worthy of respect and affection and treats his Pokemon very well indeed.

He is generous to those he likes, and will not hesitate to use his family connections and money to ease the way. He is also intelligent – his idea of light reading is Waveform Collapse in Evolution, a thousand-page seminal work on Pokemon evolution, and his sense of humour can best be described as sarcastic

History: Perry Roche was raised in the largest of the barricaded cities, to an old and powerful family who’d maintained their fortune and influence despite the creeping corruption. The grounds of his palatial family home contain one of the very few forests that have escaped being defiled, and as a child Perry could generally be found playing in these precious trees, and caring for them.

He has seen his bonded Ralts here for most of his life, the shy and reclusive Pokemon recognizing his love for the forest and the service his family has done by keeping it free – even in a city where space is at a premium. He has always loved Pokemon, devoting his time to caring for the impressive collection of rare Pokemon he and his parents rescued from the wilds.

When he turned ten, instead of seeing the local Pokemon Professor for his first, his Ralts appeared in front of him and took him along, seeming to regard Perry as someone to protect. Their relationship has since evolved somewhat – Celestis will obey him for much of the time, but will not hesitate to disagree, though the two have an exceptionally close relationship.

Perry looks like an aristocrat, and dresses in the finest fashions he can find. He favours dark, imperial purples and golds which offset exceptionally-pale skin (he routinely wears factor 60 sunblock in hot areas) and his very dark hair. His eyes are a pale, almost luminous brown colour, very striking – indeed, they are often one of the first features people notice about him.
He is quite slender and delicate, and is slightly touchy about his diminutive stature, which often has him mistaken for someone far younger than he actually is.

His hair is normally held back with an elaborate gold clasp, but Celestis’ favourite pastime is stealing this and hiding it; Perry is often resigned to having his hair wash around his face. Celestis also likes to hide in his hair if ever she feels threatened.
He has an eye-shaped birthmark on the inner thigh of his right leg.

Personality: Celestis is quite shy, initially, often hiding in Perry’s hair at new encounters and shyly peeping out to check the newcomer. She likes to either ride on his shoulder or curl close to him, and can rarely be tempted to wander far from him – Celestis will often try to drag Perry towards a bush laden with her favourite berries rather than leave him to go and forage.

Celestis is, however, mercurial, a playful and mischievous Pokemon when the mood strikes her, and so she frequently uses her psychic abilities to play tricks and put on shows. Celestis rarely speaks to others, preferring Perry to do the talking if at all possible. When she does deign to communicate with others, she is aloof and aristocratic, much like her partner, possessed of a reserved grace and a measured mode of thought.

History: Celestis is a Ralts that has appeared with increasing frequency in the forest the Roche family protect on their lands, as one of the last uncorrupted forests on the planet. She often suns herself in the secluded glades of the Roche grounds, and loves to play tricks with her psychic ability, or put on a show with a hundred displaced images of herself.

She often watched a young Peregrine Roche as he cared for the Pokemon of his family’s collection and as he played in the forest, and as time went on, occasionally emerged to play with him – Perry was fascinated by its appearance and clear, bell-like voice that, unlike the other Pokemon, he could understand perfectly.

She is most unusual in that she chose Perry, and took herself along to the Pokemon Professor with him in lieu of a starter Pokemon. Celestis dislikes her Poke Ball as a place to rest and sleep, preferring to nestle in Perry’s hair or a sort of nest made from leaves, but will use it if severely injured and unable to protect herself, knowing it is the safest place to be.

Celestis is rather smaller than most Ralts, though this has not affected her abilities, rather affording her a multiplicity of hiding places.

Personality: Loretta, who seems sweet and innocent to the stranger, is quite the personality around those she knows. Though she is very outgoing and friendly around those she trusts, she become ice-cold when faced with death or the death of her friends. She can be stubborn, difficult, and angry at the worst of times. She's also prone to rapid mood shifts. Though she'll talk to anyone, she almost never tells people about her past or her beliefs, only sharing such intimate details with a very close friend.

History: Loretta grew up in a big city, which acted as a big fortress against the Defiled. She always adored Pokemon trainers, but feared their fate, since they were the ones fighting and being cursed and dying. So instead she aspired to become a musician, teaching herself how to play the guitar and the piano, although she never was very good at either. Despite this, she kept playing, loving the way the sound made her feel.

At age 14, she watched as a resiliant Vulpix resisted its capture by a kind trainer. So she tried to help, but instead she realizes the Pisces birthmark on its forepaw was glowing when she accidentally brushed its skin. And then it could talk, letting out an immediate stream of profanities. So she kept it.

However, once someone gets inside her narrow ring of trust, she is the most loyal and dangerous Pokemon that you can find.

History: Foxy grew up in a clan of warrior Pokemon, running on open plains and openly attacking the Defiled that dared to come near. But then the Defiled attacked the clan in its sleep, and so Speed and a few of the other fire Pokemon managed to escape in the dead of night.

Birthmark: The Moon, which is located on the outside of her right shoulder.
Weapon: A long, jet black whip that she has cinched on one side of her waist.
Personality: Laid back, just like her pokemon. Usually has her nose stuck in a book, or is messing with her black, acoustic guitar, which she always has slung over her back. Very musically gifted and doesn't say a whole lot, believing that actions and music speak louder than words ever could. In battle, she is normally calm and collected, never fearing anything even if she knows she is in danger. Her attitude can range anywhere from dark to sugar-sweet, depending on her mood and the circumstances into which she is placed.
History: She refuses to speak about any of her past and hates when people ask about it.

Weapon: A bo-staff
Personality: Dark and mysterious, his Pokemon is the only one that is close to him. He barely talks and laughs, but his face is straight and serious. He is always thinking of songs and singing them, so if he starts singing, it's normal. He has always been dark and mysterious and no one knows just what caused him to be this way.
History: Jake watched his parents murdered and since then, he's been dark and mysterious. He grew up surrounded by others, but never spoke. Even going to school was a hassle for the staff because he would never talk. His only friend was a Dratini that walked in on him and rubbed up against him, the Fang symbol on his chest glowing and the Dratini's Libra symbol glowing white. Ever since then, the two have been together since.

Personality: Melody is the opposite of Jake. Energetic and active, she runs around and talks a lot, which can drive Jake mad, but he loves Melody to death. She is very protective and protects Jake as if her life depended on it. They learned to trust each other and work together, so they have been like that since then.
History: Melody hid out from the Defiled for a bit and then ran into a small town where she met with Jake, her partner. They hide nothing from each other and share everything with one another. They are each other's best friends and no one can take that from them.
Appearance:

Everyone is accepted except the following people need to make changes. Once you make these changes you can start.

Kaida - Where is your birthmark located?
Marinus - I kind of wanted everyone to start out with first evolution pokemon, so please change your pokemon to another psychic type (Ex: Abra, Ralts, etc...)
shadowman55 - I changed things a little if you are still using info from the interest check, so your birthmark must match the type of your pokemon so please pick any dragon type 1st evolution or the 1st evolution of a pokemon that becomes a dragon (Ex: Swablu, Trapinch, Horsea etc...)

A quick notice on moves:

I noticed a lot of people put powerful small pp moves in their pokemon, which is alright but that means the move will run out faster also.
You wouldn't want to waste all your moves fighting an onslaught of weak enemies and have little pp for a tough fight. Please be strategic about this, even picking moves that just cause status effects are worthwhile to consider. You have up until you leave the city to change any moves, then you can only change moves during a chapter transition. So think strategically and be ready for anything in this post-apocalyptic world!

Personality: Cocky and sarcastic are the best two words to describe him. Or is he just optimistic with a light-hearted sense of humor, either way.. He has absolute confidence in his and his pokemon's abilities. He is always looking to better himself as a pokemon trainer, in and out of battle. He loves a good challenge and is very competitive but is not completely disappointed with a lose if he knows he gave it everything and he might even be happy about it if he learns something new.
History: Growing up with a constantly moving family, going from town to town, seeing the plagues effects everywhere he went. Age 10 they came to a stop in one of the surviving cities that seemed almost safe from the defiled. It was then he decided he would learn how to fight away the defiled and save the world. His mind was made up and he began, all he owned was his toy Yo-yo, so he trained with that, and he got good. When he was about 16 years old, he was walking through one of the parks he stopped for a rest by a tree and fell asleep, waking up to find a Spinarak asleep in his hat. "Wake up you little Creep, I need that back" he lifted the Spinarak out of his cap, as he touched it the birthmark on his neck heated up, and a small Leo sign on the pokemons stomach began to glow. The spinarak yawned and woke up and began talking "I waasss quite comfortable, you know" and began to walk away, Hiro was shocked "You just spoke" he said open mouthed. The spinarak turned "and you understand me..?" and from then on they were best friends.

Loves a good practical joke, he has a sense of humor to match Hiro. His favorite thing in the world is to sit on Hiros face when he falls asleep and wait for him to wake up.. He screams every time.
History: Running from the defiled he found a safe enough city.. the only downside, it had people in it too. But it was safe so he couldnt really complain. He was sleeping in a tall tree when he fell out, not being bothered to climb back up he fell straight back to sleep in a hat somebody had left on the ground for him only to be rudely awaken by a human who could talk to him.. how odd.

Name: Vincent DuValle a.k.a. 'Frost"
Age: 21
Sex: Male
Birthmark: An eight-pointed snowflake takes up the entirety of his back.

Weapon: Dual ice picks that he carries on his waist.

Personality: The title "Frost" doesn't have anything to do with his interpersonal demeanor. To be honest, he's a rather fiery individual who's a natural thrill seeker. A few years of military school has given him the ability to be calm when necessary, but often times he's fixated on being the brawn of any given situation. The alias "Frost" was given to him by fellow military brats, due to his highly rational train of thought. Vincent is not a dreamer, and instead sets realistic goals for himself and highly respects the limit of another person's capabilities.

History: Vincent grew up as a troubled child. Not because he was bad or anything, but because he chose to react to any threat with violence. "Take out the enemy before he chooses to do the same to you." Was a motto embedded into the framework of his mind due to his Dad's influence. His mother on the other hand, was not so fond of the idea. This would explain the reason his parents divorced, and the reason why Vincent was shipped off to military school as soon as he was of age. Once there, he was told that they would "break" him, but that was a task that never really got accomplished. Instead, Vincent learned how to effectively contain his urge to bust open the Lieutenant's face, but that didn't mean he still didn't want to do it. After proving himself capable of being a positive influence in society, Vincent returned home to a "Welcome Home!" party and his very first Pokemon. A mental bond was easily crafted between the two, as if they had known each other in a former life. It was as if they understood each others situation without speaking.

Hoping to not tarnish his own name and get sent back to the military, Vincent decided to leave home in an attempt to run away from supervision. Besides, he was grown now, but who knew that would be the last time he saw his mother or his home. The event occurred, and that is where Vincent's new story begins.

Appearance: Vincent stands at 5'11, and weighs about 180 lbs. He's built like a true militant, but only because of the harsh physical training he had to endure while in school. His eyes are of a dark auburn tint, matching the strands of his close cut hair. A black and turquoise bandanna is wrapped around his forehead, with the color scheme trailing down to his all black combat boots. Black and white is the theme for both his shirt and pants that are designed in camouflage. Vincent also carries a backpack filled with snacks, or "rations" as he refers to them as, and a first aid kit. On his waist Vincent also carries two Pokeballs. One for his own Pokemon, if an event arises where using it would be necessary, and one in case there was a normal Pokemon left in the world.

Personality:Crys is a pure tactician. Calculating and very analytical, she focuses more on the possible outcomes of an attack or given order from Vincent. If she feels the end results are not favorable, she has been known to not follow orders. Unlike her trainer, Crys is more relaxed and laid back. When dealing with other people or Pokemon, she can be friendly. Unfortunately, this is purely out of courtesy. Crys can only endure the company of Vincent alone, and the larger the group the easier it is for her to become irritable.

History: Before Vincent's mother had attained the wild Sneasel, Crys was just your average Pokemon living its life. She had no immediate family, as they either abandoned her or were caught, so she fended for herself from day one. Crys defended the small territory she called home, and cared for the Pokemon that lived there in harmony with her. She became a skilled forager, as well as a veteran fighter whenever a stray trainer decided that he was taking someone away from her care. One day, Vincent's father had traveled through the forest in search of new Pokemon. He came across a Stantler, idly munching on berries from a bush, and decided to challenge it. Before his own Pokemon could attack, Sneasel interfered and accepted the battle in Stantler's stead. The fight was fierce, but in the end Crys was defeated. Vincent's father was very interested in Crys, and approached her after the fight was finished. After a short conversation, Crys agreed to let Vincent's father capture her.

A few days later, Crys was transferred from Vincent's dad's PC, to his mother's, and then to Vincent's. It was then that she received the name "Crys" and became Vincent's best friend. As a result of the current events, she is now more cautious than ever, and twice as fierce in the heat of battle.

I have decided to slow my posts down so that more people have time. I will work on my posts by parts, so that when I do post, I'm answering in response to all posts. I save them in a word document so that they are all set. I will post less often, but still often enough to be active.

Personality: A happy-go-lucky girl Carla is always believing in the best of things, even at the most hopeless situtations. Sometimes she can be a bit of a brat, being use to the rich life that she lost. Deep down though, she's feels very unloved, attaching to the first person to show any kindness to her. A strong willed yet weak hearted girl, Carla is up for any challenge.
History: Carla is the heir to the Lane fortune, a family of old money and old values. At the age of 5, she spent about a 1/3 of her savings her parents set up for her. Feeling like she can afford anything, Carla began to keep tabs on all the things she buys, knowing her daddy will pay it off. At 12, her family had enough with her constant spending, freezing her money and kicking her out the house so she can understand that the world doesnt involve around her. Disowned and poor, Carla began to travel the world accepting odds. All she really wants in life is to go back home to her family and make her daddy proud of her.

Personality: Assertive and brave, Cutter is Carla's common sense. He doesnt believe in risks, rather knowing he can win a fight before the duel. Cutter is very protective of Carla, sometimes putting his protectiveness over the best interest of Carla.
History: Cutter was used as a circus pidgey, till the circus went out of the business. The ringmaster put Cutter in the pound, being unable to afford him anymore. For three years, Cutter stayed in the pound in a cage stuffed with other bird type of pokemon. He knew there was something he was meant to do, not just die at a pound. Cutter waited for the best opportunity to escape, feeding time for them. He attacked the feeder, barely managing to escape the pound from all the nets that chased after him. Cutter flew around the town, till he saw a bright white light. Attracted to it, he flew down and landed on a shoulder of a young girl juggling for money. They look at each other for a long while, till Cutter flys around the young juggler attracting an audience.

Okay first there are some things I want to go over with all of you but first things first.

1) For those of you who haven't made your first posts (Kaida, Traziel) please make your first post soon. If you are having trouble with it I'll happily help. If you can't post please leave a short message in the OOC.

2) AlgoMusical, I don't know if you are finished or not with your CS, but the way it looks now it is lacking. Write more about your characters and provide more detail. Please look at the CS other people have made as a reference.

And now for the basics about combat:

I will control enemies for the whole rp for either teams or when everyone is together. There will be two types of enemies: Weak and Strong. Weak refer to most of the enemies you will face where are Strong are certain types of cursed enemies and the Defiled. Weak enemies go down easily and I will let you all control how and when they die. But follow these rules:

Weak enemy rules:

1) Weak enemies must be hit with at least 2 pokemon moves and a weapon hit. The weapon hit can be exchanged for another pokemon move.

2) All weak enemies must be defeated before you can enter the next room.

3) At least 2 different players must kill off an enemy. Don't kill all the enemies by yourself; it's a waste of a team effort and power points.

For strong cursed enemies and Defiled I will take full control over them.

Also at the end of your post after or during a fight, post how much PP you moves have left following this example:

Let's say turtwig used tackle and razor leaf on an enemy.

At the end of your post it you look like this:
1st move: Tackle, 34/ 35PP
2nd move: Withdraw, 40PP
3rd move: Absorb, 25 PP
4th move: Razor Leaf, 24/ 25PP
Birthmark move: Fire Spin, 5PP

That pretty much covers the special rules on combat. Please ask me any questions on anything you don't understand.
