He watched this very professional woman walk into the room, looking at him from behind the cat eye glasses. “My name is Damien, I am afraid that is all I know at the present.” He chuckled softly knowing that sounded so lame. “I was found the other day in the woods, my head had gotten quite friendly with a rock.”

He hoped that information would jar her memory, and give him some insight of what she knew about him. Perhaps something to go on to find his house, family or a crazy aunt or uncle. He wasn’t picky at the moment, he needed some connection to his past. For his brain didn’t want to give anything up at the moment. He waved the load of paper, at her. “I was just released from the hospital with a clean bill of health. Well, sort of. I have this nasty thirst that is driving me crazy.”

Giving a small grin he let go of Damien's hand, turning to see Sue enter the room, he responded as his name was brought up with a polite, formal smile.

"I'll be through in a moment Mrs. Sidal..." turning his gaze as he trailed off back to Damien, he gave a encouraging smile as he spoke in a rather relaxed tone, "I hope you have luck with those appointments, they're a lot of help I hear, infact i'm going to be doing them for a few people, perhaps we can have a chat when we're both done here?"

Leaving the question hanging for a moment, he turned his back and walked slowly towards Sue's office, giving a backwards glance to Damien, with another of his grins, he entered the office, inside the office he stood to one side, allowing Sue room to move back in easily, turning to her he asked politely,

"Mind if I take a seat?", gesturing to the empty seat in front of her desk with a tap of his hand.

Hannu got lost in some other business, and sadly did not get to his appointment on time. The recent murder made him feel on edge too, as for the fact that he was not at the appointment, he was once in the SOS, and it was the murder of a vampire woman, everything pointed to him. He walked around all night, signs on almost every door said "No Monsters". The only place he was allowed in was an old dirty strip club. He went in and drank himself near to death, ignoring the women, he never was the perverted type. He paid a girl to give him some of her blood under the table. It was aweful that he enjoyed it, he'd much rather go without it really. He wanted to commit some murders though, really badly. He sat at his table, nursing his throbbing head and drinking a cup of coffee. The cup read "Toivola, a town of hope". Maybe he needed some toivo right now, but maybe his sisu would get him through the day.

He continued to think about his two boys back home, and the whatever it was on the way. He was hoping that John had not yet gotten to his wife, maybe he would kill some humans instead, whatever it took, he needed to do it. He sat back in his chair and thought for a while, closing his eyes. Sad thing, but there are ways to end your misery, his suicidal hate voice continued to tell him. "Shut the fuck up man, never better dead." he told the evil voice in his head over and over again. He needed to get in contact with that psychiatrist, the feds would be on his doorstep soon.

Knock Knock Knock, someone was at the door. He walked over to it, a recently lit cigarette hung from his lips and his robe opened up. He didn't care, it was his apartment, and he had nothing to be ashamed of, that was for sure. He opened to door and poked his head out, to find Kyle, a rival hunter from the old days. "Hey, you miserable fucker!" he said, while hitting his face with a crowbar. Hannu fell to the ground in agony, his coffee spilled all over the floor, and mixed with a bit of his blood. "Take him guys, and clean this shit up!" he said. His partners from the SOS, Todd and Tucker did the honors immediately. Kyle got down low and hissed into Han's face "You my friend, are going for a ride. And this time, we are not going to mess it up!" he screamed at the two goons with soft names. They laughed and slapped one another. Han needed to get out of there, but he was already dead, he knew. Kyle hit him another time with the bar, knocking him out cold.

He woke up in the trunk of a car...

“That is very kind of you Joseph. I would indeed like to speak to you all is done.” Damien stated, using the more formal part of the offered name. Using his last name would have been a slap in the face since he had allowed Joe as an alterative. He just didn’t feel right using the shorten name, he never did actually.

The thought nearly floored him, he let out a gasp at the slight glimmer of his formal self poked through. Hoping more would come, he tried to coax some more information out. The barrier held his personal information tight with in its grasp. His shoulders fell slightly as he glared at the floor, this enemy was getting the better of his overwhelming patience.

**Marie**

Sue smiled. "Mr. Damian, Marie will get your appoinment set up. I do remember reading the file brought in on you. And, Marie will also get you something to drink. The second fridge, if you will, Marie."

Marie took a second to realize what was said. "The second...? Oh! Right!" The second fridge was where Sue kept containers of donated blood for new Strigoi. Not everyone took their blood like they were supposed to. If Damian was feeling hunger now, Marie was worried that he'd either go into convulsions or attack.

"I'll be right back," Marie said. Sue nodded and walked back to her office with Fox. In a few seconds, Marie came back with a tall glass of blood. "Here you go, Mr. Damian."

She then sat down and pulled out the appointment book. "We can pencil you in after lunch today, if that's all right. If it's too soon, we have a slot free in two days."

**Sue**

"Mind if I take a seat," asked Fox.

"Please do," Sue said. She sat in the wing chair by the couch. Her office was much like her, professional looking and boring. A large desk and chair sat against one wall with two comfortable chairs in front. The couch sat against the opposit wall with the wing chair at a kiddy-corner. Her degrees were on the wall, along with the official seal from the government and the Strigoi Court. A few plastic plants dotted the room.

Looking woefully out of place on one wall was a handful of childish drawings. Some were of happy families, some of sad kids, and some of strange monsters. All of them looked like they belonged on the refridgerator of some proud parent and not the stoic office of a therapist.

"Again, thank you for coming, Mr. Fox," Sue started. "I have the files on the cases I'm handing over to you. They have all completed their general therapy sessions and are ready to be more integrated in society. They have come to terms with the curse."

**Luke**

Father Luke Romeo felt that the day was a blessing from God. The sun was shining, birds were singing and he had a mission to perform. At the moment, his mission was to sweep out the steps of the church. Yes, life was good.

As he started to go back in the church, he noticed a lone care in the parking lot. Curious, he walked over to it, thinking someone might need his help.

Joseph's eyes wandered the room as he turned one of the chairs by the desk towards Sue; he was always one to keep a level of... 'formal distance' when it came to these discussions, placing himself in the chair he continued to gaze at the number of degree's, pictures and general nick nacks around the room, turning his attention after these few moments to Sue, he took a moment to articulate himself.

"You’re welcome and I'm more than happy to come and lend a hand, I know I'm new to this whole field of... counselling? Therapy? Mentoring? I'm sure I'll do most of that, I appreciate you helping me with the cases, I doubt I'd be able to manage gathering the information solely on my own ability, I'd probably botch that up; regardless..." Joseph paused, hearing the opening and closing of the fridge unit, the sound of liquid in a glass being poured; Strigoi eh? He mused, seems like a nice lad that Damien, He'd heard of some losing their memory and what not, too bad for him Joseph sighed.

Realizing his moment of silence had been noticed, since it had been nearly a minute since he stopped talking, he gave an apologetic smile.

"Regardless" he continued "I'd rather like to hear about Charity, the town that is, what’s the Fair usually like? How many of well, my kind are here? It may not be relevant but if I'm going to be here long-term I'd like to know what I'm getting into in this town."

**Sue**

Sue nodded, crossing her ankles demurely. "Well, as you've seen, Charity isn't really big. We're just in the middle of a boom. More businesses coming in, land going out. We have just a few hundred people in all. However, there was a mysterious outbreak among the local highschools with the 'thrope curse. We still don't know how a bunch of teens got their hands on the curse documents, but they did. After that, every time someone broke up with thier boyfriend or girlfriend, or talked behind someone's back, or was just not popular, we ended up with a new 'thrope as that whiney teenager took his or her revenge. Being teens, they'll get out of prison in a few years."

She smiled. "The cursers, not the cursees. Those we have coming in here for therapy. And that's not counting the many cases of the Strigoi gene activating or generationally cursed 'thropes. I think human is the minority here in Charity."

"As a mentor, you will take the cases of newly cursed. They must first go through me as a therapist. I make sure they are mentally stable and understand what has happened to them. When they are ready, I pass them to you. You work with them, kind of like a big brother or father figure. I've had mentors in the past who helped the new ones prepare for job interviews, dating and how to handle it when faced with prejudice.

"As for the fair, it's a very nice affair. We have the traditional rides and games, plus guest speakers. We also host a series of baseball games. 'Thropes, Strigoi, Fae and humans make up four teams and we have a very quick play off to see who wins. Winners get a trophey that's a little bigger then the others, but everyone really wins," she said. "Last year, the Fae team won, but we have very few Fae. Just barely enough to make a decent baseball team."

She shuffled through the files, adding, "We can always use another person on the commity. Setting up the fair, taking it down, helping serve food and work the games."

Damien took the glass of blood, staring at it for a long while. His thirst grew, even though he just had a helping in the hospital. He downed it like a starving man all in one slow graceful arch of the glass. His tongue tip caught a bit that had tried to escape at the corner of his mouth. He wanted more than these little tastes they keep offering, he wanted to feel the warmth pouring from the veins. The heartbeat under the flesh, the life that the crimson liquid promised.

Marie’s words snapped him out of the dangerous line of thoughts, his eyes rested upon the glass in his hand. He was almost tempted to lick it clean, instead he sat it down backing away like it might bite. “I don’t know.” He whispered, his voice taking on a childlike quality.

His eyes flared with anger, mostly with himself for showing so much weakness. His body shook slightly in effort not to lash out at this woman before him. Her blood pounded under her flesh, teasing and pleading with him to free it from the confines of her veins. How could he deny such a request?

**Marie**

"You don't know if today is too soon?" Marie asked. "Mr. Damien, may I ask what you have planned for today. According to the papers you gave us..." she flipped through them as she spoke, "you are staying at a safe house down the street. No identification, no memory, no job. It is important that you meet with Ms. Sidal as soon as possible."

She started to write something down on the paperwork. "I'll put you in at one today. Ms. Sidal can also help you find a job. Don't worry about the fees for the office, the government pays her."

Getting up, Marie took the glass from Damien. "We'll also set you up with some donors. I remember when my cousin found out he was a Strigoi. His body craved blood more often during that first week or so as it adjusted. It's important to just take it from glasses until your body is regulated."

Damien grabbed her pulling her to him, his fingers held her with the force of iron. Her words were meaningless nonsense, and he dismissed them as quickly as they had flowed from her mouth. “My little beauty.” He whispered, the hunger grew stronger thundering all else from his mind. Since there was so little it did not take long. “I just want a taste.”

It was his right, he needed it to survive. The glass of blood was like a cheerio against his raging hunger. He was not a toddler that could be pacified so easily, he was a man with a large hunger. His mouth inched toward her neck and the blood that haunted him so wickedly.

Everything stopped, even the world stopped spinning as a glimmer of memory danced in his brain. A face, it was blurry but it was there. He dropped his hold on Marie his mind focused solely on the face.

**Marie**

At first, she was too stunned to do anything. She had been grabbed and held by a hungry vampire! She was too scared to scream. She felt his breath on her neck and she trembled with fear.

Then, it stopped. He didn't bite her, but merely hovered by her neck. Taking a chance, she screamed.

Sue came rushing out of her office. When she saw the predicament that her secretary was in, she dashed forward.

"That is enough, Mr. Damien," Sue said, forcing her hands between them. "Let her go! This is uncivilized behavior!"

Sue’s words cut through his concentration, the image faded back into the darkness leaving him once again to grasp at nothing.

His eyes finally took in the place he lingered and he backed away nearly tripping over his own feet as he did so. His back slammed against the far wall which stopped his escape, his legs gave out and he slid down until his bottom met with the floor.

It wasn’t fair he almost had it, almost unlocked some clue to his past. Different emotions swirled through him, most he would never admit to. “I am sorry.” He stated, shaking his head. “I am so sorry, Miss Marie. I don’t want to hurt you, it was…” Not knowing how to end that sentence, unsure what ‘it’ was.

Damien used the wall to regain his footing, he straightened his clothes and smoothed back his locks. He cleared his throat to show he was fully in control of himself, he moved to gather his papers in a hurried fashion. He planned to leave and not return, not sure why he took the time to gather the papers.

Sue put her hand on his arm. "It's all right. Trust me, you're not the first go to a bit nuts in here. You won't be the last, either. You just need to learn control."

Marie added in a shakey voice, "He's penciled in at one."

"That's good. Listen, come back then and we can get you settled out." She kept her voice calm and even, the way she spoke to new Strigoi and spooked 'thropes. Or frightened animals.

"We'll get you another glass before you go. That should help get the edge off your hunger," Sue said warmly. "I know how frustrating this is for you, but it will all work out."

Marie rushed from the room to get another glass of blood, but she handed it to Sue instead. Sue shrugged and handed the glass to Damien. "So, shall I see you at one?"

Damien just stared at the glass of blood like some men do to a beautiful woman, Sue’s reassuring words sliced at his brain. His gaze shifted to her face, ignoring his want and desperate need for the contents of that glass. He could control it, he had to.

“How do you know?” he whispered darkly. “Have you woke up in the middle of a forest blood ever where strangers pointing weapons at you? Nothing in your mind except for a name. Which you hope to what ever gods believe in that name is yours?”

He moved to the door frustrated by all the events that lead him to this spot, he opened the door. “I’ll see you at one.” He stated before disappearing through the opening.

After Damien left, Marie started to shake. "I have to leave. I can't stay. I know that this is just part of the job, but I just can't. I need the day off."

Sue nodded. "Go on. I can handle things for the rest of the day."

Marie didn't wait for her to change her mind. She grabbed her purse and ran. Sue sighed and slumped in one of the waiting room chairs. Her back and neck sloped low as she fought back her frustration. Her hands cradled the back of her head, messing up her bun.

"Another day, another ulser," she muttered. Lord, she could use some more help in here.

Joseph stood at the office doorway, watching the events slowly unfold, when he had heard the initial scream he had bolted out of his seat but Sue seemed to of raced ahead of him with practiced ease, A common occurrence? he mumbled to himself, it was clear the lad was new to the whole world of being, well, being a vampire in laymen’s terms, Strigoi for the correctness, one obviously can't help it when you've got a new sudden urge for blood of any kind, Joseph thought back to the days of his first change, he'd stayed out in the wilds for several days living off of the animals he caught between his wolfish jaws, ashamed and invigorated he did something like that, it was all part of the process of adapting.

Stepping forward he rested his hand on Sue's shoulder, leaning forward slightly he spoke in a relatively calm voice, hoping it might help.

"I could go out and talk to him if you want, before you have to see him again that is; I know he’s Strigoi and I’m not but I had to adapt to the changes, so would he and that’s what I think he is struggling with right now."

Joseph looked from Sue to the door, half ajar, not being closed properly; he could see Damien walking off down the street through the open space.

"Plus anyway, it might save you trouble and it might help me understand what being a mentor is all about." he added, hoping that extra bit, if he hadn't first persuaded her, might do just that.

Damien found his way to the repulsive government housing, after a rather demeaning conversation with the person in charge he is armed with a key.

The apartment itself is small and lacked much, the rustic orange and yellow of the sixties were still quite alive in this space. The second hand furniture was sturdy and worn, only to fulfill the necessary needs of the occupant. Which, unfortunately, happened to be him. He tossed the papers on the table letting them land as they wish, frowning at the tiny bedroom and the double size bed.

Stepping into the equally small bathroom, one thing he did fight for was a bath tub. Turning on the facet, plugging the drain he left it to fill. Going around the three windows to shut as much light from outside as he could. The blinds were a joke giving him little shade from the sun’s rays. After checking on the water level he read a few of the papers with a frown.

Once the bath tub was filled to a reasonable level, Damien shut the bathroom door plunging the tiny space into darkness. He sighed with relief, undressed and slipped into the water. Sue’s words pounded against his skull, her manner had been right in the moment. He would not have taken a bite out of Marie, it was the control he felt with her in his arms. He closed his eyes shutting off the facet with his toes, he allowed his shoulders to sink under the warmth. “Control.” He whispered, he knew he needed some. He relaxed his body, soaking up the heat from the water.

Like the slow drip from the facet his mind started releasing some information.

“You are a fool, Razmar.” Damien stated with complete calm despite the wild chaos around them. “I will not let you do it.”

“You are the fool, Damien.” Razmar hissed, his face half hidden by his blond hair. “Why can’t you see reason?”

Without another word, the two were locked into a battle to the death, both holding fast to what they believed in. They are both equally matched, Razmar cheated and called for help.

A noise beyond the bathroom pulled him from the sketchy memory, he listened for a moment before dismissing it completely. He let his head sink under the water as the battle played out in his head once again. The betrayal of his brother beating against him like a very large hammer.

**Sue**

Sue shook her head, placing a hand on top of Joseph's. "No, it's all right. Strigoi mentors work with the new Strigoi. You're a 'thrope mentor. I have far too many cases for you to deal with then for you to worry about this."

She stood up, straightening her clothes. "I am sorry you had to witness that. It's just hard for some to adjust to their new lives. For the Strigoi, the hunger can be overwhelming. I've handled this before."

She smiled and patted his shoulder. "I am grateful for all that you are doing, and for your eagerness to help. Thank you."

Joseph gave a mental shrug, he was used to seeing these kind of things he guessed, he had done similar in a manner, and so had countless others he'd known, he knew the Strigoi had their thirst, he knew the 'Thropes had personality changes and others dependent on their 'other' selves appearance, Joseph's own general senses, ranging from his sense of smell, sight, hearing and to a degree, taste had all altered as his changes become more deep rooted in him, never again would he eat fast food after knowing exactly what it really tastes like.

Looking back to Sue, he gave an understanding smile; taking his hand from her shoulder he gave her a "don't worry about it" look before speaking.

"Its no worries, I've seen it before and I'm used to it, Strigoi aren’t the only ones that can handle the change in such a way... and you’re welcome anyway, I took the position when it was offered because I wanted to help, if I didn't want to help I'd still be up in the north’s doing god knows what."

Looking to his side, at Marie's desk he let out a quiet sigh to himself, thinking, Who knows how much that woman has to put up with daily, from crazy Strigoi to kids sprouting fur everywhere, surprised she managed to stay so calm about it all.

"Anyway...” Joseph started again, "Mind if I grab those folders with the information in? I think I need to sort a few things around town before I can get started really..." A grumbling sound raises in the room, interrupting him mid-sentence, the sound clearly came from his somewhat aggravated belly, screaming Feeeeeeeeed me "Ehm... that was going to be one of them, appears out of nervousness I haven’t eaten since I got on the train to come here."
