Kuno walked with the rest of the group into the now dim house, the sun had now fully sank behind the tree line. The house was dank and smelly, and pieces of it were falling apart. The plaster on the walls was coming off, revealing the wires and clapboards (is that what they call them?) underneath. Some electrical wiring was even visible.
Hmmmmm... electrical wiring...
Kuno knew what could be done with that. Could you shock a ghost? She didn't know much about paranormal investigation, she had only ever read about it in newspapers and magazines, and heard about it from her aunt. So she wasn't quite sure what she ought to be doing. She knew how to deal with odd and perhaps malicious teenagers; were odd and malicious spirits the same way? You had to come in with a gentle but firm attitude. Be nice, but not buddy-buddy. You're not their friend, you're their aid. You're going to help them move on. Not from this particular phase of teenage angst, but this stage in their life.
Fascinating.
Once again, the sound of gunfire filled Kuno's ears.
Oh, no, not you again...
Kuno ducked under the hearth, pulling Mike, who happened to be closest to her, under with her, because she had pictures of burned up or collapsed houses, and the chimney always seemed not to cave in. She brought Mike because hey, why not try to save the next guy too.
The house did not collapse.
"Sorry about that, Mike," Kuno said, brushing soot off of him, "I thought the roof might fall in..."
