Zara stood on the over-crowded bus full of rather sweaty looking people.
The heat was stifling, but the sun was dazzling and that's all Zara cared about.
It was just a pity she wouldn't catch a tan.
The bus jolted to a sudden hault that sent Zara hurtling forward into a man standing nearer the front.
"OhMYGODI'MSOSOSOSORRY!" Zara apologised in a babbling burble of speech.
And then she froze.
"Joseph...?" She breathed, or rather didn't, it couldn't be...but it was
"JOEY!!!!!" She squealed, throwing her arms around him (and having to jump to do so might she add).
W.O.W. He was tall.
Joseph chuckled, his eyes bright as he grinned at his friend, returning the hug," Hey Zara, missed you hon."
His voice, had it always been that...husky? Deep? Zara didn't know.
They were starting to attract attention now, people were staring.
Zara cringed and turned bright red.
The two friends continued to talk quietly, awkwardly, seeing as they were being stared at so much.
Finally their stop came and they both got off and looked out across the sandy white beach, and the shimmering azure ocean waves.
Joseph whistled and then chuckled slightly," Well...here we are..." He said, taking Zara's moon-pale hand in his own deep tanned one and beginning to walk down toward the sand.
"Oh wait!" Zara said hurriedly, as she bent down and kicked off her sneakers, smiling sheepishly.
"It's been a while..." She explained.
But how could she explain? How could she explain the way the soft, hot sand felt between her danity toes or how the ocean breeze felt when it brushed her face and made her smile or how it smelt of sweet ice-cream asnd sun-tan lotion?
Zara just smiled and Joseph nodded, understanding the meaning behind those words.
He looked at Zara for a moment, and she looked at him, and the friends smiled, studying eachother as they walked down closer toward the middle of the beach on the hot sand.
Joseph watched Zara...she was...different, very different, she was still pale as always- the only one who could never catch a tan out of all of them, the shy, awkward girl.
Now she seemed different, age had complim, ented her face, defining her striking features and accentuating her figure.
She was a woman now, and Joseph ahd to admit that scared him a little.
