Glory was going to go for a roundhouse kick and combo it into a back kick. As her leg came around from the roundhouse, she bent her knee and brought her right leg up close to her body and tucked it in close to her left leg. This would have been the set up for the back kick, but he fell for the bait and attacked before she could complete the final motion of kicking her leg back out. While her leg was still up near her body, he was now going for a kick to her pelvis. She quickly released the stored electric energy in a wave that jumped outwards. Glory could create plasma shields to protect herself from damage and attacks. As soon as she saw him start to move into his crouch she activated the shield. All the flickering static energy that was around her body jumped off of her right leg and into the air and converted into an opaque orb of blue plasma.
If his leg continued to move forward then it would pass through the shield and would disintegrate into small particles of ash. Glory had a lot of time to think this plan through, which meant that the orb wasn't meant for herself...

The plasma orb shot off of her leg like a sideways tornado. The 'eye' was the small hole where her right leg was located and was about one foot in diameter, growing in size as it moved outwards. The 'eye' was just big enough so that she didn't burn her own leg off while the static converted into plasma. the wave shot off towards Kane and around him like a bubble, closing in to connect at his sides, back, and over the top of his head. If he tried to jump back while it shut off then he would risk losing his other arm and the top of his head as the orb closed. The front 'eye' part of the bubble closed shut as soon as the bubble was just a bit passed her right foot.
In other words, her leg shot off an electric web to trap Kane inside. It was about seven feet in diameter, just big enough for him to sit inside without burning. It sizzled with plasma energy. She used her left leg to hop backwards a few feet and landed in a crouch on the ground.

Glory had complete control of the small little photons within her electric attacks. Even if the energy was no longer in her body, she could still manipulate the photons in the air and around her to her will. She focused a bit harder to keep the energy in place to make sure it didn't disperse as she moved away from it.
She now watched to see what the caged animal would do to escape from the searing hot orb...

At the request of Lightcaster and Sheoul, I have been asked to judge this fight by the rules of the GrassRoots tournament.

Lightcaster (Glory) Vs Sheoul (Kane)

Fighting Ability:
Damage (45%): 28 v 5
Tactics & Strategy (25%): 10 v 20
Creativity (5%): 2 v 4

Writing Ability:
IC Ability (15%): 9 v 11
Imagery and Prose (10%): 6 v 5

Flat scores: 55 v 45
Bias offset: 0 v 0

Deductions: -20 v -4

TOTAL SCORE: 35 v 41

Lightcaster: You fought well, but you made a lot of T1 violations, and contradictions of yourself over the course of this fight, which eventually cost you the match. I'll go over them in detail a bit below. I really enjoyed reading your intro and the following few posts. They were alive with the rioting city, and they included the stage fairly well. You started lacking imagery during your exchanges with Kane however, and it made for dull predictable reading. Your first exchange can be summed up with I'm trying to get my prep to connect. I enjoyed the mid-fight exchange between the characters, but your actions afterward were unnecessary. Why were you prodding his defenses after you already successfully blew off one of his arms? Defense prodding is an opening gambit, not a mid game one.

The deductions were as follows:
-8: Failure to acknowledge a connection:
When Kane made for the grab and headbutt move, Glory saw only opportunity. She was so focused on connecting with her sphere of static electricity that she missed everything else during that post. Glory brought the energy punch up to block and destroy the grab arm. Kane was playing for this, knowing his character was an pseudo-andriod and capable of surviving the attack. He baited you into hitting his arm with the orb, which you took. What you missed was the headbutt part of the attack. Since Glory didn't respond to this action during her post, Kane was awarded a connect which he took. You can not as a player negate the connection. It already took place.

-5(x2): Misreading attacks:
(1)The very first move of the fight is Kane extending his arm in a "punch like" fashion at Glory's face. Several times you call it a "right to left swipe". This is not the motion he performed, and you granted your character additional time that she did not have because of the motion you "created" for Kane. Kane made for a punch (more like a face grab), and halfway or less to you he transformed the punch into a grounded sweep with his left leg. He didn't need to readjust his footing, he completed the step with his right and followed the sweep with his left.

(2) The very last move Kane makes is a kick to Glory's pelvis as she performs a roundhouse kick. The problem comes from your character's response. Kane's attack is timed to hit just as Glory's leg sweeps over him from the initial kick. Glory's leg would still be extended at this moment in time, Glory is forced to respond right as the attack is made. Instead she takes the time to complete the initial roundhouse kick, bringing her leg close to her body before retaliating/blocking.

Too late at this post

The result would be a crushed pelvis.

-2: Contradictions:
Consistency is a big part of RP battling. People need to know what they're up against, and note subtle changes in attacks and defenses. Your writing lacked consistency. Ex.
Post 1: "She kept the static ball in her left hand and slowly fed it more power."
Post 2: "But Glory had infused her hand with static electricity, and if the open palm blow were to connect she would send a small pulse of energy through her hand and convert the static flickers into plasma"

Note, the static ball effect is gone in this post. If her hand connects, she would send an energy pule through it

Post 3: The electrical charge fused around Glory's hand

It's back to being a ball again.

Sheoul:
I liked the grit your character displayed over the course of the fight. Tough, unfeeling, doesn't care about damage because his parts are replaceable. Your tactics were wonderful to read, and slightly surprising. They really portrayed the character well. The first exchange really did feel like a game of chess, and Kane made glory take the pieces he was willing to sacrifice, while dishing out pain.

I didn't really have many issues with your posts other then some minor things. Deductions were as follows.

-4: What happened to the sweep kick?
In the second post, Kane performs a sweep kick which disappears over the next few posts. The momentum from that kick and the spinning motion would remove a headbutt from the viable attacking motions towards glory.

Total Scores:

Lightcaster (Glory): 35
Sheoul (Kane): 41

I have no problem with your judgement, but I would like to explain some of my actions a bit.
I'll first congratulate Sheoul on his win...
Good job.

It might come off as ranting, but I wanted to clarify why I wrote the way that I did.
For the misreading the posts for his eagle's claw strike:
This was done in tandem with a rotation of Kane's upperbody. Both to create more momentum for his hand's swing and to better position himself for his foot's slide.

When he said "swing" and "rotation", I thought it was a... well, swing. Like a baseball bat because he "rotated his hips" for more force. It would be hard to rotate his hips for more force while striking downwards. Which hinted that the motion was slightly more horizontal and not vertical, and also not a standard straight palm strike.

As for the last kicking move, I will accept that.
At that point I was just lazy and didn't really put much effort into posting.

As for the ball of energy around her hand, take a look at her bio. It is a orb infused around her hand. I say that in my post
She raised her hand and let a large orb filled with static flicker wildly around it. The static would be a useless shock if it touched him, but the sound and appearance of the orb gave off the appropriate response as it sparked and sizzled.

and then I later say that
if the open palm blow were to connect she would send a small pulse of energy through her hand and convert the static flickers into plasma

The static energy shot off of her hand and turned into plasma as she shot it off for her attack. I thought it was clear, but I'll work on that for future posts.

The only real MAJOR thing that bothers me is the palm strike. You say I ignore the damage, but what about post 8? Shouldn't that post have been when her hand hit him?
At this point he is moving in bullet time. I bombarded him with PMs, but we didn't really get anywhere.
So I changed attacks to make her blow his arm off instead of going for the palm strike...

The second problem I had was his arm getting blown off.
(Jump to 2:05) Look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDVVAuz1 ... jw&index=9

In the video above, even though he is a robot he still flinches and stumbles from the blow. Kane's bio makes no mention of how much his body can withstand, but seeing how her plasma DID blow his arm off, it should have made him stumble back. If he reacted anywhere near the video, which any humanoid form should because of balance, robot or not. His Headbutt shouldn't have ever taken place because he should have had to move his left foot back to compensate for his arm's swing from the blast. He should have been spinning left from getting hit by all of that force.

Notice how in the video his entire body moves and jerks back from the force? And that isn't even at close range.
I thought I made it clear the effects were like a shotgun at pointblank range...
How can his head keep moving forward while his arm is getting blown off?
What happen to Glory's uppercut? He makes it take place after his headbutt, but I clearly say in my post that she wastes no time to let him recover. Hmm...
I played along and moved the fight ahead anyways.

You ask what happened to his sweep, but that kind of effects everything in the fight. Doesn't it?
If he never ended his sweep, does that mean that he now was standing for his grabbing move?
Or was he still crouched?
If he took the time to stand, shouldn't Glory's palm be hitting him? With which hand is he grabbing if he put one hand down to balance to perform this sweep?
You say I need to be consistent with my posts, but that kind of goes both ways... Don't you think?

Just something to think about...

Alright.

I hope once my homelife is sorted out Lightcaster and I can have a proper fight. I'm sure Kane would want a rematch, too :P

Because the fight proceeded to the point that it did I can't take the match completely apart, because it would invalidate every motion afterward. I can only grade on the breaks in battle flow and logic. Of which Sheoul only caused one and you caused several.

Lightcaster, You suffer from the same problem a lot of decent players suffer from. You want your opponents to acknowledge your hit. Instead of just connecting the palm strike in post 6, you inch it closer to Kane. This is what caused the "moving bullet in time" problem.

If Glory was really capable of hitting Kane before the sweep arrived to knock her off her feet, you should have done so and taken the damage from the following sweep, or left it open for him to connect if he could follow through. Instead you stretch the simple motion of her "punching" him over 3 or 4 posts.

You stretched the attack out because of your desire to have him acknowledge the hit. This allowed him to get in an additional turn of action in which you- instead of connecting - changed targets to his arm, giving him the time he needed to connect his headbutt. Which would never have been an issue if you had connected your punch a turn ago.

The other things are minor. You must understand battle flow and T1 better to improve as a fighter.

Alright... I think I see.
But I don't think I fully understand T1 as much as I had originally thought. This will be my last post for this topic, but I do have a few questions. I grabbed this stuff from the T1 rules page: type-turn-based-combat-eden-era-t4212.html

1.
The defender must be consistent with the position they were in before the attack took place. For instance, if our defender [Crispian_Nohamar] was standing directly in front of Elario_Chinglove with his hands behind his back and his eyes on the ground when Elario swung his staff, that is the stance he must attempt to defend from. However, before he defends he must be seen to somehow acknowledge the attack. After all, he wouldn’t know to defend if he didn’t know of the threat to begin with.

Which was why I had the problem with his leg sweep. Because he changes actions for post 8 he was no longer in the same stance as the previous post. This was why I called for a judge in the first place.
So does the above rules not apply for this fight? This one problem here was the only main thing that bothered me. So when I lost points for consistency that kinda confused me as well because I tried to be clear with her footing and arm movements and tried prepping defensive stances at all times so that you knew her stance and what she was going for (except for the last kick).

2. (This is the one that confuses me most in the rules page)
It is very important not to ‘auto’ in a connection. Although you can state where the blow landed based on the information offered in the preceding attack and defense moves, you cannot state the exact amount of damage dealt upon another character.

So with this one it says I can't auto a hit. Which I took as "I inch my hand closer and wait for him to acknowledge". I only started doing RP battles maybe about two months ago, so both RP fights and T1 are new to me. If he does not acknowledge the hit does that mean I can do a force hit and say it connects anyways even though the rules say not to "auto" a connection? Does that mean the force hit will be allowed, as long as I don't tell the damage it does...?
I'm really confused with who tells that the attack connects. Is it the defender or the attacker?

Most battles I have done were on paper, and normally planned out in advance for which direction it would go in (like cooperative story telling). Answering the above questions will help me a lot for future writing. Thanks in advance.

(Sorry again if my posts and PMs came across as ranting.)

Light, as this is no longer part of the judgment of this battle, I'll respond to your additional queries Via PM.
