I sniffed the air, smelling cig smoke over air freshener. "Sofa, were you smoking?" I asked her, grimacing.

"No," I said, lying through my teeth. I had been about to...But that didn't count, right?

"No, it was me," Kurse said. He pulled out his still hot cigarette. "I smoke all the time, if you don't like it, I can smoke outside," He said and pocketed his cigarette. "No biggie,"

"Well, I'm not the one living here," I said, sitting down on Sophia's bed.

"And nope, you don't! So why don't you just scurry on down the hall, I'll call you later?" I asked, widening my eyes under my heavy eyeliner. It always worked on him, every time.


"I guess." I walked out, kissing Sophia on the cheek quickly before going out.

"Could I still have that cig?" I asked, standing up.

Kurse watched James walk and pulled his cigarette out. He turned to Sophia and passed her a fresh one. He lit his up and pulled out a small flask of rum. "Don't worry, I don't drink enough to get drunk, I just like the taste," He took a swig with his cigarette still in.

"Thanks," I said, lighting the cig and walking over to the window. I leaned against the windsill, and opened the window enough to be able to sit in the windowsill. I winced as he pulled out the rum, remembering the nights her dad would get drunk and beat her, her mom, and brother. Blowing a puff of smoke out, I shook the thoughts out of my head.

Kurse pocketed the rum after he noticed the slight flinch. He walked over to the window and leaned against the wall, blowing smoke away from Sophia, but into the window. "Don't like alchohol do you?" He asked. "If it's personal, don't tell me,"

"Bad childhood experiances," I said simply, shrugging.

((Sophia and I have like, the same experiances, only mine is different. My mom, (lighter than me) used to drink almost a whole bottle by herself. One night, we actually got in a fist fight cos I was trying to call my dad about her drinking. So I ended up kneeing her in the gut so I got the phone. Then, not too long ago, she fell down 14 steps. *shudder* So, yeah, there you have it.))

((That's kinda like me and my sister, she doesn't drink, she's just a bitch, we got into a fist fight in the middle of the street, well, it's not really the same, but I thought since you told me a horrible life story, I might as well share something))
"Ahh," Kurse said, puffing on his cigarette. "Never had any of those, but I hate when it does happen to others, it makes me mad,"

((Aww. My big bro and I are too close to do anything like that...But he is older than me, and very mature. XD))

I put out my cig as the my phone rang. "Eurgh." I stood up to answer it, seeing it was my friend. "Hello?" I knew it would be a long conversation, so I climbed out the window and started to walk around outside campus.

Kurse watched Sophi leave. "All right then," He muttered and finished unpacking. He heard a bleep on his laptop and went to check.

I came back a few minutes later, my eyeliner down my face. "Sorry about that," I mumbled, walking over to my bed and laying down on it. I sighed, tears coming again. I pulled a pillow over my face, letting my tears and eyeliner stain the pillow. My chest heaved with sobs and heavy breaths, and I forgot Kurse was in the room still.

Kurse walked over to her bed. "Are you okay," He asked, feeling dumb. He wasn't sure what to do so he sat down on her bed and patted her shoulder a little. "What happened?"

I took the pillow off my face, wiping a tear away from my cheek. "My best friend...beat to death by her dad," I said, turning my head to look at him. I probably looked horrible right now, not that I cared.

Kurse kiijed at her and looked down. "I don't know what to say," He said, feeling a tear form in his eye. He blinked it away.

"It's fine," I said, sitting up. "Aw, you're about to cry. Please don't make me cry again." I looked at him from under my long eyelashes, once again wondering how bad I probably looked right now.

"I'm not about to cry, it's just that your life is so bad, and mine is fine, it makes me sad and angry," Kurse said. He scratched the side of his head. "And don't worry, I won't make you cry," He half-heartedly smiled.

I smiled back at him, and stood up. "Excuse me, I'm going to go re-do my make up. I'll be back." I walked into the bathroom. I came out a few minutes later, the black lines off of my face.

"Alright," Kurse said, walking over to his bed, he sat down and fiddled around on his laptop. He wolf-whistled when Sophi came out. "No, I'm kidding," He smiled.

I playfully walked over to him and flicked him in the head gently, before grabbing my phone. I texted James with the news, knowing he would be upset.


I heard my phone ding, a text. I gasped when I read it, my knees buckling under me. I ran down the hall to her dorm, knocking quickly.

"Come in."

((Ah, man, I hafta go to sleep, sorry, FOOTBALL GAME TOMORRA))
Kurse smiled at her, he put his computer to the side. "I'm just gonna take a quick nap so you two can have your privacy," He half smiled before he dozed off.
