Roleplay Online with RolePlayGateway

As I'm sure most of you are aware, there was roughly two days of unexpected downtime that happened at probably the most inconvenient of times. Eric was out of town and so was I and I didn't learn about the down time till last night. This morning, with Eric's phone battery dying we managed to work through the problem and got the server back online. I am still unclear as to what the root cause of the problem was, but from the looks of it it seems the memory on the server was being chewed up for some unknown reason. It was to the point where the server would no longer accept requests of any kind resulting in the MySQL general error most of you all had seen.

I'm back in town now and I think Eric is coming back home soon too so things should run more smoothly now. I am terribly sorry for all the inconvenience, but I can assure you that we're working hard to find the cause of this problem.

heh well that's good thanks for the news ^^, do you think that it could've been some kind of virus? or that there wasn't enougn memory in the server?

Not really.

But at least were back now, and I can RP again. I feel much more happier now.

I wanted to rp soo bad. I was ripping my hair out lol. I saw no general error today and nearly passed out. I hope it doesn't happen again and thanks for fixing it.

I had turned to The Sims 2 to ease the pain of not being able to RP. XD
The errors sound like this kind of bug I got on Mac a few weeks back. Had to get new memory.

Do you think that the server memory problem could be caused by the fact that inactive roleplays still take up memory? Perhaps if that is the case you should make it so that if a rp isn't active for however-long, that it is deleted. This sight is loaded with stuff, so I could easily understand that a memory problem would be possible.

Part of the beauty of our site is that we never delete any of the hard work put in by our roleplayers, so that's not really an option.

Typically, extra content takes up storage (hard drive space) not memory (RAM). The amount of content on the site is not related to the server issues we're working on right now.
