Introduction
Joffrey was in truth not the son of Robert Baratheon, but the son of Queen Cersei and her twin borther Jaime Lannister. Few knew of this horrific fact, but those few included the Hand of the King, the highest leader in all Westeros save the King himself. Lord Jon Arryn was the Hand in those days, together he and Stannis Baratheon, Rober's younger brother, discovered that Joffrey was not the son of Robert Baratheon. Before Jon Arryn could reveal it to the King, he was murdered by poison.
Lord Eddard Stark, the old friend of King Robert was then named Hand. He came to the capital of King's Landing from the mighty fortress of the Starks in the north, Winterfell. There he discovered for himself what young Prince Joffrey was, and prepared to take it to the King, but before he could King Robert was slain in a tragic hunting accident. Joffrey quickly ascended the throne, but Eddard Stark tried to stop it. He and Petyr Baelish, the Master of Coin and a brilliant politician gathered the loyalty of the Gold Cloaks, the King's Landing city guard, and marched to the Iron Throne in the Red Keep.
Petyr, however, betrayed Lord Stark, and Eddard was taken prisoner. Cersei planned to send him into exile as one of the guards of the great ice Wall in the north, which would have stripped him of all his power as Lord of Winterfell, but Joffrey disobeyed his mother and grandfather, Lord Tywin Lannister of Casterly Rock, and had Eddard executed. This enraged Eddard's oldest son, Robb Stark, into taking Lordship of Winterfell as quickly as possible and calling his Lords Bannermen, lesser lords who owed their allegiance to House Stark. One of those lords suggested he reclaim the thrown and crown his ancestors and given up, and young Robb was crowned the King in the North.
At the same time further south in an area called the Riverlands, two of the major houses of Westeros, the Lannisters and the Tullys, fought. Lord Edmure Tully, the brother of King Robb's mother, Catelyn, fought against Lord Tywin Lannister and Ser Jaime Lannister, but he began to lose the war. King Robb marched south to aid Lord Edmure in his fortress of Riverrun, and they drove the Lannisters away. After some time of fighting Robb was killed, ending hope for northern independence, for his two younger brothers were believed dead and his sisters were missing.
Half a century later, despite the death of King Robb, this war still rages. Fight for your chosen house, or perhaps even rule them, and vie for control of the Iron Throne of Westeros.
