Introduction

Several years have passed since the time of the Elric brothers, the famous sibling alchemists who saved the country of Amestris countless times. Their tales have been written down in history books, their heroic deeds turned into legends, and the Homonculi they once fought have become nothing more than the things of nightmares for young children. Yes, over the years peace has fallen on the land, save for the endless conflicts with the neighboring nations, but that is to be expected. And what has happened to the brothers?
During their last adventure they passed through the Gate and emerged on the otherside, in a new world that was quite the opposite of their own. Alchemy as they knew it did not exist their, but they where whole, and together, and that was all that mattered. Their fates after crossing, however, are unknown. In our own world, however, Roy Mustang has taken up the position of Fuhrer, and though his experiences with the Elric brothers he has been slowly using the military to bring peace to the land, rather than conflict, as was often the case before. Winrey is now funded by the military, however is still completely independent of their workings, except that now if a solider ever looses a limb they get an automail replacement for free. Other than that she ownes the country's best automail shop.
But, over the last few years, strange reports have reached Mustang's desk. Reports of odd lights, mysterious deaths and dissapearances, and other such things. At first he thought nothing of it, but as more and more reports came in, some of them showing signs that alchemy may have been involved, he begins sending out special investigation units. These are usually cells of three to five people, most or all of them being State Alchemists, who go out on location, make a formal, first hand report, and do whatever they can to prevent further acts from occuring. Afterwards they return to Central Command, though so far little has been turned up. It seems that if an alchemist, or a group of them, are responsable for these events, they are very good and covering their tracks.
All of this changes one day with the dissaperance of one of the highly ranked State Alchemist, known as the Forecast Alchemist, who had the abilities to change the weather in the area for a time. The man had just returned from an inventigation of a small farming village in the West Area and was making out another, follow up report, more thorogh than his first, as he was not so pressed. This partialy finished report was found on his desk, but there was something odd about it. It seems that alchemy was used to erase parts of the report, and more importantly on an area near the bottom, where he may have tried to write something just before whatever it was happened to him. All that could be understood from the information on the paper was that alchemic symbols were found etched into the rafters of a barn, seemingly randomly. It is suspected that prehaps he was onto something and those behind the mysterious events had to silence him.
While Mustang believes the man is dead, he is still gathering a new group of State Alchemists together to investigate the West Area more thoroghly. Incidentally, it is also time for the annual State Alchemist Entrance Exams.
-=-=-=-
So, several years have passed by rather peacefully since Ed and Al crossed over into the parallel world. Roy Mustang as taken control of the military, and up until recently things have begun to calm down quite a lot without the Homunculi around. But now a new evil has emerged in the land of Amestris, but anyone who might know why has begun to dissapear, as have the clues. Now the new Fuhrer, Mustang, is gathering alchemists to investigate, while also having to deal with the entrance exams and new alchemists wishing to join the military.
You can choose from a few different roles-

Regular Alchemist: just an ordinary person who can use alchemy, but is somehow involved in the events
Soldier: a normal, none alchemy using person who works in the military
Homunculi: a souless being created through human transmutation

Central was a large place. After the last time it had been destroyed by one of the Elric brother's battles it had been rebuilt a bit larger, to accomidate new people in an attempt to make the military more flexable. It was Mustang's hopes that with more people they could better tackle the problems of the people. But none of that mattered to Issac, who stood before the front doorway of the building, looking almost like a statue, safe for his hair, which was blowing in a slight breeze.
"Um...excuse me sir, but, are you lost?" A man in a military uniform was speaking to Issac. "You know this is Central Command, right? If you're tying to get to the train station it's-"
"Sorry, my name is Issac Kain. I'm here to take the entrance exams and become a State Alchemist." Issac says, giving the man a warm smile, shifting his weight from one foot to the other and allowing his cane to lean lazily to one side. "And I'm not lost, I was just looking it all over. I'm an earth alchemist, so I can tell how strong structues are by looking them over closely, and this has to be one of the most well built buildings I've seen in a long while."
"Why, thank you. Lieutenant Armstrong helped in it's construction, which is amazing, seeing as how, well, his image isn't all over the walls." The man said with a laugh, which Issac joined in. It seemed that Mustang was doing a fine job of running this military. After a few more words the man leads Issac to a large, rather empty room, filled with desks and with bookshelves along the walls. There were a few others sitting in desks here and there, and if Issac had to guess, they were probably all alchemists. "Just wait here. Mustang should be here shortly to begin the exams. You do know how the exams go right."
"I think so," Issac says with a slightly nervous laugh. "Let's see...first there's the written exams, right? We get a piece of paper and a pencil...and then after that it's a demonstration of our abilities? And I've been told there was a third part, but never what it was."
"Right so far. There is a third part, but it's a suprise. even I don't know what it might be, and I'm not even sure Mustang himself knows." The man says with a laugh, however this time Issac does not join him, not because it doesn't seem funny, but because Mustang is standing right behind him.
(Mustang will be an NPC, as will other characters from the series, but no one will really be rping as them, if you guys are ready you can have him call the exams to a begining, or i will next post or so)

Tali Vistreia stood leaning against the wall, beside the doorway of the great, majestic building in which the applicants to become state alchemists would be taking their entrance exams. Her vaguely almond-shaped eyes, cold dark brown irises, scanned over the people walking past; some, seeming to notice her lounging under the shadow of the building, glanced at her, the 'Fading Alchemist' as some said, before hurriedly looking away and going about on their business. Did it annoy her that people seemed to consider her at best, strange, and at worst, a freak? Initially, it had irritated and saddened her greatly, but to her own surprise it was becoming less noticeable--though she still wished she could throw a look of irritation at those people. The most she could do was turn her seemingly empty eyes on them, and that was more likely to simply unnerve them even more.
Returning her eyes to the area before her, Tali acknowledged to herself that a good portion of some of these people were here to take the test to become state alchemists. Given that Tali did not have a mission at the moment, and she had no business to take care of on the part of the military, she would be assisting in managing and administering the test and evaluation--she would be present at the first part of the test, if only to observe the potential alchemists, but in the second part, the actual demonstration, she would be judging the candidates. And then there was the third part--but hopefully, Tali thought, she would have little to do with that, whatever it was.
After a moment, she realised that she had caught sight of Roy Mustang, standing beside a military officer and a young man dressed in civilian clothes--perhaps a candidate for the state alchemists. Remembering that Mustang would soon be announcing the beginning to the exams, Tali found it strange that he would be out mixing with the crowd--especially considering Mustang's personality; at least, as far as Tali knew; they were by no means friends, and their relationship did not go beyond military business. With a fluid movement, Tali pushed herself from the wall and began to make her way towards Mustang and the two with whom Tali was not familiar. As she approached them, she raised a hand in a half-hearted military salute and nodded in greeting. "Fuhrer," she greeted Mustang. Her voice was monotone and without any apparent feeling to it; it irked Tali just as much being unable to at least express herself in words as it did to be unable to express herself physically.

Kross walked through the doors to central and started walking around looking for where the exams were to take place. "Damn this place is too big..." He whispered under his breath as he rounded a corner and saw the Fuhrer himself standing next to another man.
"Hey, Fuhr'." Kross said loud enough to be heard as he walked towards them waving a hand, "When do we start the exams? i wanna be home in time for dinner!" He flipped his arm behind his head as he reached the two.
I can't believe I'm standing here next to him... He thought as he remained calm on the outside, his large smile present.

Mustang sighs and smacks the man in the back of the head. "Johnson, I thought I had asked you to head into town and speak with Miss Rockbell about her newest shipment of supplies?" He says as the man lowers his shoulders and turns to face the Fuhrer. "You should have been halfway there by now. Prehaps a demotion is in order, I've heard the janitors need some help..." And with that Johnson was gone, and in the distance a door could be heard opening and closing. "Now, you're here for the exams, right? Go on in and have a seat."
"Yes sir..." Issac says, a little more nervous now. He is just about to turn and find a seat when a woman walks up, saluting Mustang, but with no obviously friendlyness to it, or anythign else for that matter.
"Ah, hello Vistreia, glad to see you looking so excited about the exams." Mustang says with a small smile. "Were you hoping to sit in while the new potential recruits take the exams? If so you're just in time." Mustang wasn't one to poke fun at a preson for no reason. Hew knew more about Tali's situation than she thought he did, such as the entire reasons behind it, but he thought she was brave, and so treated her as he would anyone else. Looking past her, however, he sees a young man walking up. "And good day to you..." he says to the new person. "Please don't call me that. Now, both of you take a seat so we can begin..."
Issac had paused at the doorway only long enough to see what the name of this stoic looking woman was, after that he entered the classroom and looked around. The front most seats were mostly empty, probably because no one wanted to sit so close to the Fuhrer, but that didn't bother Issac, and so he chose to sit down directly in front of the large oak desk in the front of the room, where he assumed Mustang would be seated for the duration of the exams. Soon after he had taken his seat he watched as the Fuhrer, looking a bit annoyed, walked in and took his seat, then waited for the others to enter. Once everyone was in the room the door was closed and a man in a military uniform began passing out the test.
"Now, this is a standard test, and every State Alchemist employed by myself and the military, are familiar with the information held within. There are several types of questions, everything from what elements make up certain substances, to situational questions." Mustang says, once everyone has a test before them. "However, these tests will not be graded until after the second and third parts of the exams. Now, when you are ready, begin." As he spoke the Fuhrer took out his State Alchemist silver pocketwatch, and when he had finished speaking he looked at it to mark the time.

Kross sat at the back of the room, not because he was afraid of the Fuhrer but because he preferred to be closer to the door so he could be the first out after the exams began. As the test hit his desk he quickly wrote his name on it and looked at the Fuhrer.

I hate these written tests...where I excel is in combat not paperwork. Kross thought to himself as he read the first question on his paper.
List the three rules a state alchemist must obey in any order. To which Kross wrote- Obey the military, Do no create gold, Do not create humans.
Easy... He thought to himself as he read the second question.
You enter a building where the populace is being held hostage by a known high level alchemist. Explain how you would rescue the hostages and dispatch the enemy alchemist without any casualties. Kross responded- I sneak in among the people being held hostage and wait for the alchemist to walk past me. As he does ambush him and dispatch of him with a swift sword strike.
maybe this won't be as bad as I thought, Kross thought to himself as he worked through the rest of the test.

Hmm...You find yourself in a building that is collapsing due, not to alchemy, but a naturally occuring earthquake, and you have no idea how long it may last. How would you survive? Well, that's a bit of an easy one I guess... Issac thinks as he reads the next question, then answers by saying he would use his skills in earth alchemy to stablize the structure so as to make it less likely for anything to crumble or fall, and simply wait out the earthquake. Good thing I had some useful skills before... Issac forces his thoughts to stop. Had he gone on thinking of that dark day he might have crushed the pencil in his hand like a toothpick. So far no one here knew anything about him, including his automail hands, and he intended to keep it that way until as late in the game as possible. Normally, as far as he knew, they didn't accept people into the military if they'd preformed 'one of the three unspeakable acts of alchemy,' as his father had called them.
After another, maybe fine minutes, Issac laid down his pencil turned over his test paper, and folded his hands before him on the desk. Looking around it seemed that many others were still at work. Would some of them dislike him because he was the first done, because he'd studied so much? He didn't care either way. What he did care about was not allowing any of the men and women in this room who did not become State Alchemists to know of his secret.
"Alright everyone, half an hour has passed since the test began, and quite frankly...I'm tired of waiting." Mustang says, closing his watch with a sigh and standing. "Most of you are done anyway, right? If not, too bad, be quicker next year. Now, everyone, please follow Lieutenant Wilhelm to the stage for the second part of the exams. I'll see you all there shortly, after I see to a few things."
As he spoke a man with short black hair, pale blue eyes, and a scar across the bridge of his nose walked through the room, collecting papers. When Mustang mentioned his name, he walked up, handed him the papers, then turned his attention to the class from the doorway. "I am Henry Wilhelm, but you will call me Lieutenant, understood?" The man spoke darkly, as one might after seeing too many horrible things, but he didn't yell, only seemed angry with the group. "Now, follow me. It will take some turns to get to the second area, so don't get lost of I'll find...and you don't want to be found by the Viper Alchemist..."
He is called the Viper Alchemist for his unusual skills in turning nearly any liquid into some type of poison, venom, or general toxin, and because he was a tattoo of a viper winding up his left arm, though it cannot be seen in his uniform, which he is now wearing. The man salutes Mustang, whom salutes in return, then turns and leads the class out. Issac falls in line somewhere near the middle of the group, which move single file through the halls of Central, some actually marching...

The darkness was something she was used to by now. After seven years of it, one actually tends to find comfort in no light. For now though, Darna could see the circles, the intertwining energies of the little examinees as they entered the door into the rather airy arena. This would be the setting for the second part of the exam. Their energies, like neon smoke in a dark room, came towards her, Wilhelm at the front. Darna stood tall, wearing her uniform and gripping her very thin cane in both hands. It was not something she leaned on, for there was nothing wrong with her legs. When the young students walked closer, they would notice the whites of her eyes and nothing else. Darna Shaelladh was the Seeing Alchemist. The blind alchemist who could transmute most anything just by feeling its energy. Easy enough? Absolutely not. It took a lot of practice and discipline for it to come to naturally to the State Alchemist.
Wilhelm walked up beside her and whispered into her ear. "These are your examinees, Colonel." He spat out. There was a small hint of disgust in his tone and Darna turned her face in his direction, but not being able to see his face, she looked a little to the left of him.
She laughed, "Something bothering you, Lieutenant? I sense a bit of hostility. Afraid they're going to do better than you did when you took the exams?" She knew he was pissed and laughed a little louder at his grunt of disapproval. What was he going to say to her though? Nothing. Her rank was nice, Darna thought. Turning away from the bitter militant, Darna left the smile on her face and spoke loudly.
"Welcome to the second part of the State Alchemists' exam. I am Colonel Darna Shaelladh and you will do as I tell you." It felt so good having this kind of power. Stepping carefully, her cane out, Darna made her way to the crowd and began walking back and forth, examining their auras. Everyone was excited, nervous, and proud. One was in a hurry and she turned in his direction.
"In a hurry to get out, sir?" She lifted her eyebrow, her white eyes lifeless, but the rest of her face rather animated. "I hope you take your time here, because fast action can be your death." Nodding she continued on her study of the students and stopped when she felt a dark familiarity in one. He was as tall as she, for she could feel his eyes looking at her own. Her brows furrowed and she brought her face very close to his.
"I see you've seen it then." Sighing, Darna shook her head and stood back, still speaking softly. If only she'd been smarter, if only she'd been taught the taboos and the right way. If only she'd had the strength to say no. He would be thinking those same things in some years. This one would pass, she already knew. Would she tell the Fuhrer? Perhaps not. He would see it for himself sooner or later. Darna would rather not be a tattle tale anyway. As she turned and walked away, Darna wondered what kind of monster he'd created. The memory of screaming entered her head and she stopped walking. She was going to have a migraine before this was all over. Maybe she'd have Wilhelm do this part? No, that would be a grave mistake. Sighing, Darna turned around and lifted her walking cane to rest on her shoulder.
"This part of the exam you will fight me. I will attack you once, you will counter once. If you try to attack me more than that, you have failed. This is going to test your ability to think on your feet and in the heat of battle. This is the military and as much as the Fuhrer wishes for peace, it is obvious we still have hostile parties among us." Had anyone else spoke so openly of the Fuhrer? Especially in the manner Darna had? Probably not, but she didn't care much. He would scold her later, she would get in a lot of trouble, but she'd be back. It was not something she took for granted, but rather something she cherished. Darna felt like the Fuhrer was a disgruntled parent to her, much like Taven was.
"Now," placing the cane back down, Darna smiled. "Who will go first?" They would misjudge her. She was blind, that much was obvious. But if they were smart, they would remember that she was a Colonel in the military and a State Alchemist. There was something about her that made her powerful. But still, some of these nitwits would underestimate her.
Wilhelm walked up beside her and whispered into her ear. "These are your examinees, Colonel." He spat out. There was a small hint of disgust in his tone and Darna turned her face in his direction, but not being able to see his face, she looked a little to the left of him.

"In a hurry to get out, Sir? I hope you take your time here, because fast action can be your death." Kross watched as the blind woman continued past him and looked at the other state alchemist hopefuls. All I know is fast action lady... He thought as he squeezed both automail hands into fists and flexed all of his toes on both of his automail feet. As a small child he had been in an accident and his arms and legs had been crushed beyond repair, so he now had top of the line automail for all of his appendages.

"Now, Who will go first?" Darna asked and no one appeared to be stepping forward.
"I might as well..." Kross said walking out of the mass and positioning himself in front of her in his ready stance, "All I have to do is counterattack, right?"

Tali raised a hand to scrape her chin. She had not been told that she would be working with another alchemist to supervise the second evaluation. At least this alchemist could have informed Tali that this would be happening--it annoyed her somewhat. It was not like Roy Mustang to spring these kinds of surprises--he normally would have dropped by her a notice informing her that she would be working with another state alchemist for the second evaluation.
She walked up standing alongside Wilhelm at the front of the group, and there her eyes, with no indication of feeling behind them, swept over the group of them once more. She was already getting something of a feel as to their capabilities, their strengths and weaknesses. Her own ability allowed her only a faint indication of exactly what exactly each alchemist could do, but it was enough to give her an edge in battle--not that she would be fighting any of these students in her portion of the test.
"I am Lieutenant General Tali Visneia," her lips barely moved, and the flat, monotone voice droned out. "I will oversee the second portion of this section of the evaluation. That portion will test not your combat capabilities, but your psychological and mental prowess." She paused for a moment, as if waiting to see if anyone would chuckle, thinking that this didn't seem too difficult. And then: "I have had to save potential alchemists from this portion of the test in the past." With that, she leaned back against the wall, and began watching the alchemists in the first portion of the evaluation.

Issac stood in line with the others, watching the blind woman as she passed by them a few times. Oddly enough, he felt that she could somehow see them, not physically of course, but all the same, she could see them. And his feelings were confirmed as she mentioned they had seen the same thing. She hadn't said it like that exactly, but from the look of her eyes so closely, with no sign of an iris or pupil at all, he could tell, and a chill ran through him. Prehaps my secret will not stay so for long. She could tell the Fuhrer at any time she liked... He thought grimly, shaking his head.
But the time for thinking was over. He needed to begin listening once more to what the instructor had to say, but to his suprise, a moment later another woman walked up, announcing a second part to the test. So, first a simple physical challange, you attack, I counter...but what would this mental and psychological portion be all about? Issac wonders, always more curious about the mental than the physical, which is ironic due to his gift. Anyway, he grips his cane a little tighter, feeling stupid for having it when there is a blind woman there, and he doesn't actually need it.
Then the man from before, outside the classroom, with the automail hands volunteers for the first go with the instructor. With all the other candidates, issac takes a big step back, so as to give them room. After all, there is no telling what type of attack this woman might throw at him. "Be careful," Issac says quietly to him, "Do not underestimate her, even if...no, especially if she's blind. I've got a feeling about her..." Why he says this is a mystery. He knows nothing about this woman, but, then again, maybe he knows too much.

Darna let the Lieutenant General, one whom she'd never met, say her piece, not looking at her, but listening carefully. She'd known about this "other portion" but was unsure, like most everyone else, about what it was. It sounded like it would be quite the sight. Too bad she wouldn't see a lick of it. Smiling widely, showing straight, white teeth, Darna handed her cane off to Wilhelm as the first examinee approached.
"You know, I had a strong feeling you'd be the first one." His energy was still excited and anxious. The other student she had spoken to before whispered a warning to the opponent. He must have thought she couldn't hear him. It was funny that people thought of her as nothing but a handicap.
Standing straight, Darna stared ahead, seeing nothing but the flow of alchemy in the person opposite her. He was ready for anything, so she'd have to corner him. A trap would be her best bet. The Colonel couldn't make this easy, but her instinct to help these poor kids was flitting around in her mind. They were all so eager and young, but less than a quarter of them would pass.
Sighing, releasing all the tension in her muscles, Darna knelt on one knee and clapped her hands together in a fast, swift movement. White lightning filled the room and enormous spikes of the arena floor came up from behind and on both sides of the examinee. They moved quickly, threatening to block him in. They were huge and made of the granite stones tiled on the ground. Her ability to skip the circles made her movements much faster than a typical alchemist.
But just as they got a few feet from the fighter, the stones began to twist and intertwine, making the fighter have to think even faster about his move. Darna knelt down, her hands clasped together, a smile on her lips.

Kross saw the spikes coming at him and smiled to himself. Any kind of stone is no match for my blades, He thought as he slid his right arm up his left sleeve and, touching the transmutation circle there, pulled a longsword out of it. But it was no normal longsword, Kross had changed the elements of the metal and it was now harder than anything known to man, and sharp as hell too.
Kross readied himself and when the pillars combined into a cage and he was out of site, he made his move. Spinning in a circle with the blade outstretched he sliced through all of the pillars and using his automail legs to their full potential shot out at the Colonel with speed faster than the normal human was capable of. His sword pointed straight at her throat but just as he was about to stab in he stopped, the tip resting against her neck.
"How's that for a counterattack?" He asked as he grinned widely at the Colonel.

She heard the attack, watched as her transmutation was wrecked by his alchemy, and it sounded like his automail. The point of his weapon was glancing on the skin of her neck and Darna's lips opened in a toothy grin. She laughed and pushed it away, finding it to be a blade when she touched it.
"You are a cocky little brat, aren't you?" Her voice was loud and she clapped her hands. "Not bad for someone with fake arms and legs." Waving him off, her smile and laughter faded. "Now get back to the group. I'll let you all know who's passed once everyone's gone."
It felt good fighting the little ones. A few more went, Darna hurt one of them and he was sent off to the Infirmary. See you next exam. A few more tried to personally pick a fight with her. They called her names, thinking it would hurt or feelings or something like that. Taven would have laughed right in their faces. That's what Darna did.
After knocking down a few more examinees, and also finding a few good opponents, Darna sighed. Not one hair on her head was misplaced.
"Okay, next." She wiped her hands off on each other, making a low clapping noise as she did. Her head was beginning to hurt so she wanted to get this over with. There were just a few more examinees left to fight, and then she'd would let the judges decide who passed this portion. The excitement was dissipating in Darna. All she wanted now was a smoke and a highball.
"Come on! Let's get a move on! I don't have all day!" She yelled out impatiently.

Kross was confident he had passed this portion of the exam as he walked back into line. At least I was successful with a counterattack, I think I passed this portion, he thought as he walked back into the lineup of hopefuls. The exams continued and he watched as some of the others succeeded as he had but others just failed miserably. They even had the gall to try and shake the Colonel by making fun of her blindness. People that that made him want to kick them in the face as hard as his automail would allow. He watched as one was even sent to the infirmary.
"Better luck never with skills like that..." He whispered under his breath as the injured man was moved past him. Kross continued watching patiently waiting for the second part of this exam.

Tali watched the first portion of the exam, appearing to regard the entire matter with apathy and indifference, though she was truly greatly interested to see how well this latest group of testers would do. Judging by their physical combat test, one would think they were rather mediocre--but Tali knew that physical prowess wasn't the most important thing at all. A state alchemist had to have the psychological strength that would allow them to withstand situations in which the minds of others might have simply broken. No matter how fast or strong one was in combat, if they couldn't operate calmly and efficiently in painful, personal, mind-testing scenarios, then they were useless to the military and to the government.
As the first part of the exam came to an end, Tali made her way to the front of the room, before all the testers who had passed the first exam. Without a word, she motioned for them to follow her, and she made her way through a door into a long, bland hallway with several doors on either side--if someone counted, they would find that there was one for every tester. The testers stared at the young woman somewhat nervously, at the emotionless face and unfeeling eyes.
"As said, I am Lieutenant General Tali Visneia," she began flatly, with no fanfare whatsoever in her toneless voice. "This is the second part of the exam--a test of psychological and mental strength. This will not be a mere game. What you are about to experience has destroyed any hope of many a potential alchemist from becoming a state alchemist. And," she added. "most of the failures--those that make it out--make it out rather...broken." She paused, as if to let this sink in. Though none of it registered on the blank slate that was her face, she felt a bit of sadistic fun in frightening the new alchemists with that--many of them were looking somewhat anxious, while one or two looked quite confident, as if she had been exaggerating. She had not--at all. "That said, each of you will enter one of these rooms. What happens from there...is to be seen."
The alchemists began to shuffle into each room. As they entered, the door shut behind them, leaving them in total darkness.
And then...
((So basically, in this test each character will face their worst fear, or, if they have had a traumatising event in the past, their worst memory. I'm hoping no one will go 'oh my character is afraid of spiders so a spider fell on their arm, they killed it, and left'. This would be something that would cause significant pain to the testers, something real enough that they no longer recognise it as part of the test.))

Issac watched quietly, wincing a little whenever one of the sudents took their lumps, smiling and tapping his cane whenever one of them did well. As one of them was sent off to the infermary he grimaced, wanting to go and help him, but he knew there was no point. If he were to allow his true abilities to be discovered so easily there'd be no point in having hid them for so long, and besides, this was the military. They had some of the best medics in the country under their employ. Looking more closely at the woman, Darna, if he recalled correctly, for he was never good at remembering names, he could tell she had a headache. Was it simply from exerting herself so much, or a possible side effect of her...condition?
"I believe I am the last one, miss." Issac says, stepping up with a smile. He called her miss because she looked too young, to him at least to have a husband or children, and because he couldn't remember her ranking. Even though she couldn't see it, he gave her a small bow, then rose with another small smile. "To be honest, I'm not much of a fighter, so could you please take it easy on me? I'm more of a defencive type, and besides, I could never harm a lady."
This was true enough. Although his unique talent was in that of healing, his mainstreem abilities were in earthen alchemy, which he used mainly as shields, or to cause people to halt, and so on. He had never started a fight in his life, and never planned on it really, and his skills would reflect that. However, the other was true as well. He simply refused to fight a woman unless he absolutely had to, and if that were ever the case, such as now, he would not harm her if it could be helped, and would instead fufill the task as simply as possible. He would counter, and nothing more.

Laughing softly, Darna nodded to Wilhelm, not knowing exactly where he'd moved to. When she felt him next to her, she put her hand out for the cane and tapped the black tip on the ground.
"Thank you, Lieutenant." He moved away. Leaving the smile on her face she turned back to the last examinee.
"A gentleman, I see. Well, you won't be laying any hands on me." Taking the cane in both hands, she stepped closer to him, leaving only a few feet between them. "If you lay hands on me I'll have your head on a platter." The smile stayed in place, but something in her voice told of power. She wasn't one to be crossed. Obviously, the Colonel would not be taking his actual head, but he would never be allowed to set foot on these grounds again if harm came to Darna. The point of these tests were to test quickness of thought in a fight. Darna could hurt whomever she wanted, without killing them, but she wasn't to be touched.
"So, with that out of the way. Let's see what you can do." Winking her blind eye at him, she tucked the cane under her arm. Rubbing her palms together slowly, she smiled and lowered her head. Grabbing up the cane, it turned into a long, thin chain and she flung it forward, wrapping tight around him. When it came to the last inches, Darna sped forward, faster than most men or women could move, and clapped her hands again, sealing the end of the chain. It was an endless, metal rope now, tying his arms down. Darna winced for a moment, looking away from the group. Her headache was at the last stages and would be turning into a migraine now.
"There we go. Your turn." She grunted and began walking back toward Wilhelm, holding a hand out for him to take. She couldn't been falling on her face now.

Issac kept the calm smile on his face all the time as he watched and listened to Darna. Yes, it was quite clear now, she had a horrible headache and it was getting worse, which made him feel bad. When she was ready he stood, tencing his body as she transmuted her cane into a metal chain and wrapped it around him, then turned it into metal rope and sealed it. His smile never faultered, because of his tencing up he left himself just enough room to move and touch his hands together, and after that he simply touched the rope and it turned to sand, then fell around him in a circle. Once he was free he knelt down and drew a quick circle in the sand, for show mostly, and transmuted it back into a cane.
"Here, Miss Darna, your cane." Issac says as he walks over to her, placing the handle of the cane in her hand with one of his, then touching her back with his other. Something passes between them, something from Issac into her, and her headache clears away. "You look tired, you should lie down and take it easy for a little while." He says quietly, his voice filled with the same type of nameless power as her own had held moments ago. "Excuse me."
And with that he moved back into line, before Wilhelm could do anything about it. With a snort in Issac's direction Wilhelm takes Darna's hand and leads her off. "Are you alright? Don't worry, I'll have him carried off right after the exams." He says protectively to her, glancing back and glaring at the boy. He knows her well enough to know she doesn't actually need help, and that the idea of her not being touched during the exams was not only her own but that of the Fuhrer, and while the boy was seemingly kind, it was still a violation of the rules, and he would have fun dragging him away never to return.

Darna didn't have to watch the boy to know what would happen. Any typical alchemist wouldn't have been able to get out of it, whether they'd made themselves just a little smaller or not. But she knew he'd seen it, she knew he'd get out. But she couldn't think of anything much trickier for him to get out of. What she hadn't expected was her cane returning to her nor the spark he gave her when he encased her hand with his. The headache floated away after his touch and she stopped, wishing she could look into his eyes and see what he was doing. He was sweet, or at least, what he said to her was sweet. Darna took pride in the fact that she was pretty good at hiding her ailments, but he saw and he helped her. So, he'd could do more than what she thought. Seeing the Gate was one thing, but alkahestry was a completely different story.
"Observant, that one," Darna whispered to herself as Wilhelm came up and took her hand. It was nice playing the part of the handicapped blind woman and she patted his hand as he walked with her.
"Don't worry about him. I think Fuhrer Mustang will take a particular interest in that one." Sighing, she folded her cane up and stretched her arms.
"They're all yours Lieutenant General! I'm going to go get some rest now." Looking back toward the pack of up and coming State Alchemists, for the first time in seven years, Darna wished she could see. Mostly because she'd been struck by at least two of the young men, and because she just wanted to see the hope in their eyes. Feeling it was nice, but actually seeing it must have been inspiring.

OOC Notes
Darna entered her small military apartment, kicking the door shut lightly behind her and setting her things on the table just inside. Everything was where it had always been and would always be. Five steps forward, three steps to the right, there was the refrigerator. Two more steps to the right, the little bar she'd made for herself. It was essentially just a little cabinet with a few bottles of liquor and her favorite drinking glass. Placing her middle finger inside, she poured until she felt the liquid slosh up to the tip and she re-corked the bottle and put it back. Five steps to the left and ten steps forward she was in the middle of the apartment. Eight steps to the right and she was beside the sofa and soon sitting down in it. Kicking her boots off, she took her military jacket off and placed it over the back of the sofa.
This was her basic routine whenever she entered her home. It was simple, dark, and quiet. After her first drink, she would get up and in her room she'd find the rather large humidor that housed her favorite cigars and start smoking.
Her thoughts ran slowly around this time. The boy had been right about one thing, she needed to rest. Large groups were always so nice, but the migraines she would get weren't always worth it. This particular migraine had been, however. That young man, whatever his name was, had a very special gift, aside from the similarity they had in seeing the Gate.
Once he became a State Alchemist, she felt it would be her task to find out what he knows, how he knows it, and learn it herself. Her ability to transmutate without a circle was impressive, and she was capable of helping anyone she felt deserved it. But to heal people would be phenomenal. It would not be a gift she took lightly. Darna would be able to help more people. She would even give up the military if it meant the power to heal.
Sighing, these thoughts of the future quickly turned to thoughts of her past. If she'd known alkahestry seven years ago things would be different for her. Darna reached into her pocket and withdrew the thick paper there. Running her fingers over the wrinkled, worn out surface she imagined the photograph of the three of them. Her father was smiling proudly, his big white teeth shining in the sun. Mother was reaching out, trying to grab a young Darna, but only gripping the hem of her dress as she ran toward the photographer. She looked irritated, but there was a light of happiness about her that shown through.
It was the only thing Taven had ever described for her. Someone had hidden the photo in her bags right before the village had thrown her out and her parents had disowned her. Darna imagined it had been her mother. But the truth was, the woman had been disgusted with what her daughter had tried to do. She hadn't spoken to Darna as they pushed her from the house forcefully.
Blowing a long breath through her lips, Darna stood to get that cigar and another long swig of brandy. It wasn't even evening yet, but she wouldn't be needed again for a while.

OOC Notes
When the time came Issac followed Lieutenant General Tali Visneia, or simply Miss Tali as he would call her from now on, away from the first area of the second part of the exam. As he walked he looked around and listened to the others. Some of them thought the first part had been too easy, others thought it had been too hard, but none of them seemed to be able to agree about this part. He was sure someone had said something about having a terrible fear a spiders, which made him laugh, but soon enough they were paired off with a room. Entering his own room there was a rush of slightly stale air as the door closed tight behind him. It was utterly dark and smelled a bit musty, slightly of mold and mildew, but then something odd struck him.
"This is how our basment back home smelled in the spring..." Issac says quietly, letting out a nervous laugh. Why did he even remember such a thing? Was it the test or did he actually remember that day so well? The day he tried to bring his father back to life with that forbidden alchemy. Shaking his head, trying to clear the thoughts, he closes his eyes for a moment, and suddenly is terrified to open them again. Eventually when he does open them he finds himself in his basement once more, and the smell of the place is now combined with fresh earth, pine wood, and decomposing flesh. Issac nearly gags as he back up, reaching for the door knob only to find it curiously missing.
Holding a hand up to his mouth to try and fight off the stench he looks around, looking for any way that he might be able to escape what he is sure is about to happen. And he knows exactly what is about to happen. On the floor at the center of the room a transmutation circle begins to glow, and at it's center there lies Issac's father, dressed in his finest clothes, just as he was the last time anyone every saw him, save for the mud and dirt on him from being dug up and moved around so much.
"No...no, not this again..." Issac cries out, quietly but distressfully through his metalic fingers. "No...."
The lights glow brighter, and then the gate appears, just as it did then, however it isn't really there. This is all just an illusion, something tells him, because there's no way someone can bring out the Gate without preforming a real human transmutation. It just doesn't work like that. The Gate opens and the dark little arms and faces reach out towards the body and drag it into the darkness, and then they reach out once more, towards where Issac was that night. There is a blidning white light, and the entire room of the second exam area shakes as the Gate closes up and what is left behind is a monster.
Slowly, emotionlessly it seems, Issac steps forward, over the upturned casket, over the dent in the floor where he would have found himself all those years ago, and as he reaches the grouling, repulsive demon that lays before him, he raises his father's cane over his head and bring it down in one quick stabbing motion. But as it would pierce the skull of the demon, the lights come on and the door opens, and Issac stands there, alone once more.

Kross walked into the door confident like always. As the door shuts on him he suddenly isn't in the small room anymore, it is the field where his house used to be before the rock slide. As he gets near he see's the rocks start to crumble from the top of the cliff and there is nothing he can do about. He runs at the house but doesn't make it before the rocks hit it, smashing it flat. He reaches the rubble and starts to tear through the wreckage, slowing as he nears where his knows his parents smashed bodies will be. but he is on a mission and keeps going, facing the fear of seeing their bodies; mutilated beyond all recognition.
He pulls the board off of what should be his fathers face and reels back at the sight. Fighting his fear of seeing them like this he works both of his parents out and using alchemy forms a small hole to bury them both in. As he throws the last shovel of dirt in the room turns back to normal and he opens the door, walking back out into the true world.

Tali glanced at the pocketwatch of the State Alchemists just as the test ended. As Kross and Isaac left their respective rooms, they would notice that they were now the only ones left; some of the other doors were left ajar, others were shut, but they were the only two left. No evidence was laid on Tali's ever-blank face to suggest what had happened to them as she leaned against the wall, her arms crossed across her chest in a pose that had long since become known as her 'trademark'. She looked over the two, and felt some disappointment--these were the only two to come out? Then again, there were times when only one alchemist even made it through--Tali's exam had been one of those very rare and few occassions.
"It appears you two are the only ones who managed to pass," she spoke. "I had to get most of the others out rather quickly, and there were one or two who are...no longer present. You have performed at the expected level." She said it less like a compliment and more like a mere observation. "Mustang should be here soon for the conclusion of this exam."

OOC Notes
As Issac stepped out of the room he was a bit more pale then at the begining of the exams. He was dusting himself off, though there really wasn't anything to dust off, and he seemed in a daze. It took a moment before he realized that Miss Tali was there, or that she was speaking to them. Once he shook his head and heard what she was saying he looked around, and indeed it seemed that he and the man a door or two down from him were the only ones left. Hard to believe that many could suffer through such an event, but then again, few would have to face anything like what he had in that room.
"That...was some interesting alchemy. I've never heard of anything like that being done before..." Issac says, as calmly as he can. He moves away from the room and turns towards her, placing both hands on the handle of his cane. He takes this oppertunity to look the woman over more closely, despite the distance between them. There is something...off, about her, something he can't place. It is similar to what he saw in Darna, but not exactly the same, so he makes the guess that she has been involved in some sort of dark alchemy as well.
"And then there were two..." Mustang says with a sigh, walking up behind Tali though the back door. "Well, I suppose this will have to do. Remind me to speak to you later about your methods, alright Visneia?" He gives the woman a look, then turns, waving for the two wannabe alchemists to follow him. "This is the final exam, after this you will be sent to the mess hall to get a little rest and refuel, and then, once I am ready, I will come to you and if you pass you get a watch, if not you get a train ticket back home."
Mustang leads them out the door and into a large, open courtyard with high walls. The center is bare, hard packed earth in a large square, and near the center rests two large cages. From within some rather frightening noises can be heard, roars and snarls and cries, though not from any normal animal. "These are chimera, confescated, though I won't say where from." He says, stopping between the two cages and turning to look at the two alchemists, signaling them to stop on the other side of the square. "Chimera are crimes against humanity, and normally they must be killed on sight, however, I believe these will prove as a fitting final test. Up until now you've been tested mental, psychologically, and on your reflexes. Now I will test your resolve and moral integrety."

Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
i know, i really liked this rp as well...i may repost it in a little while, and we can just pick up where we left off
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
Effing A. What a crap too. I super liked this idea... and my character, not to sound conceited or anything. But she held a special place in my heart. :/
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
i hate to say it, but i think this rp is dead...we were the only two posting...
Re: [OOC] Plot Thread
okay, so, i think it's time we move on. in my post i'm going to speed things up to the next morning, so we can meet with Mustang, he can tell us the details (some of them at least), and we can get on with the plot. we'll head from Central to the train station, where, while en route to the East, a Homunculus (i'll be making a character sheet soon), will attack the train, stopping it on the tracks
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
I am so sorry but school is getting very chaotic with Drama everyday after school and jazz band at the same time. I'm going to have to drop out of this, even though I don't really want to. Again sorry
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
yep, things are finally moving along, and we may have another guy joining us. it's sort of my fault that it's going slow, i tend to always try and wait on everyone else to post before me...but anyway, i'm gonna wrap things up with the chimera and all, then get onto the investigation group stuff
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
OKay so finally the plot moved! Yay! I've been gone since finals for the end of first term sorry! So might as well post something...or wait til I find a place to fit in.
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
it's fine, i figured there was a reason. we just needed to move it along a little
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
sorry that was my bad I was rather busy, what with Jazz band and drama after school and all. I will post more diligently from now on.
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
well, i was hoping Frost would have posted something by now...but it looks like it will be a while, so imma move things along a little...make another Mustang post at least
sorry about the wait...it seems this is happening in all my rps...
sorry about the wait...it seems this is happening in all my rps...
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
sorry about that, i'll try and have something happen soon, just had to get the whole exams out of the way first
Re: [OOC] A Tale of Transmutation (FMA RP)
Dunno if there's much Tali could do...so I'm going to wait, I guess, until Mustang approaches her or something.

Hey guys! I'll be out for the weekend! Back Tuesday night!
