Mechanical Alchemist
Adam is generally friendly to everyone he meets, but he isn't naive; he knows when someone when someone doesn't like him. He likes to try diplomacy before entering a fight, but will attack if there are no other options. He dislikes killing, but understands that it's sometimes necessary. Adam is highly altruistic and empathetic, and as such won't leave someone in need. He likes exploring and building things, often allowing himself to get carried away in both fields. The quickest way to gain his interest is to show him a piece of technology that he's never seen before. Adam usually smiles, even if only a little bit.
Due to the fact that he has largely been traveling alone for the past eight years, Adam's manners have somewhat declined. While he is almost always polite to others, his social skills are near non-existent; he is often straight to the point in his conversation and doesn't think before he speaks. He also has little sense of privacy or personal space. He won't intentionally watch a woman while she bathes, but he will most likely stare if he stumbles upon her by accident. On a similar note, he has no qualms whatsoever about rifling through someone's belongings if they appeal to his curiosity; he has simply grabbed something out of someone's hand on more than one occasion. This social awkwardness has gotten him in trouble many times.
When working on a new creation, Adam enters a trance-like state in which he mutters loudly to himself and is almost completely unaware of the world around him. What's more, he will transmute almost anything within about twenty feet of his work for parts. He does, however, avoid transmuting a few things: living beings, anything made of or containing paper, clothing, and other mechanical devices. Anything else is fair game; he once transmuted an entire shed in designing his "assistant". He can remain in this state for days on end until he collapses of thirst, hunger, or exhaustion. The only known method of successfully snapping him out of this trance before he has completed his work is some sort of intense physical action, such as slapping him or pouring water on his head.
- Several wrenches, screw drivers, and other tools required for maintaining mechanical devices
- Several small sketchbooks and journals filled with notes and designs. He uses these to aid with his alchemy
- A pocket watch that doubles as a small automaton, which can carry out several simple tasks
- A duffel bag containing a change of clothes, food and water, several tools and gadgets, and spare bullets for his gun
- His right arm is completely mechanical and serves as his primary weapon. His arm, while a potent weapon on its own, contains a retractable blade just above the wrist and also conceals a pistol of his own design in a spring-loaded compartment. It also has twenty alchemical symbols etched on the forearm (two rows of ten), each of which are useful in his work as well as combat. Many of the symbols on his arm are of his own creation (how he learned to make new symbols must be discovered in-game).
Adam has had it hard for most of his life. He and his older brother, Daniel were orphaned at a young age and spent most of their lives traveling. Daniel took it upon himself to protect his little brother, who was basically useless in a fight.
At the age of sixteen, Adam became an alchemist. At first, this helped the brothers get by: Adam would make simple devices and they were able to live comfortably for a while from the extra money. This only went on for a month, though until they were nearly lynched in a small village. The two were separated in the ensuing chaos, but had set up a meeting point in case things went bad. Adam returned to this meeting point and waited for an entire week. His brother never showed up.
Adam spent the ensuing eight years looking for his brother to no avail. He refuses to believe that Daniel is dead, since Daniel is one of the best swordsmen in the country, and will not rest until he finds his brother. Unfortunately, Adam is also easily sidetracked by seeing others in need. Recently, he has come up with a new way to find his brother: Adam wants to make a name for himself so that his brother will know where to find him.
