Introduction

A B O U T
The Roleplay
The Guild of Adventure has sent adventurers near the village of Gheldon a message, alerting them of the peril the village is in due to dangerous giant insects harassing its villagers. The message is pretty terse in stating the task is basically to rid the town of insects. Because giant insects are fairly common, the messages have only been sent to novice adventurers who, should they accept, will be only experiencing their first or second actual adventure. Hopefully these adventurers have studied their handbooks and won't have too much difficulty in ridding the town of its pestilent pests.

The Guild of Adventure
Adventure Odyssey takes place in the world of Takaria and evolves around a influential guild known as "The Guild of Adventure." The Guild sends messages via hawk, messenger, or by some form of magic to adventurers all over Takaria. No matter how good or bad, moral or immoral the task may be, it is up to the adventurer to decide rather they wish to perform the task or not. Many tasks generally bring together random adventurers who suddenly find themselves having to work together to achieve a common goal before they part-ways. Some adventurers prefer to travel alone, others travel in groups. The difficulty of the task generally depends on the rank of the adventurer and the area they are currently traveling in. The guild keeps track of its members due to a magical bracelet.

The Hulven Race
The primary race of the planet Takaria are a people known as the Hulven. A common trait amongst Hulven is their small pointy ears, and their varying values of tan skin. Hulven are scattered throughout Takaria in small villages and towns, they utilize and replenish the habitat they live in by means of magic and physical labor. Other Hulven prefer a patterned nomadic lifestyle visiting one location, using its resources and then moving on to allow it to naturally replenish itself before they return (which is generally after the passing of four seasons).

Creating Your Character
Every adventurer plays a important role within a group, making it even more important that their characteristics can be differentiated. Here are some things to keep in mind when selecting particular attributes for your character.

If your tall then you naturally have a longer reach, and can cover more ground due to your lengthy limbs. Making it easy for your to out-run shorter creatures or characters especially if you have the agility attribute. However, shorter individuals will be able to perform more complex and faster motions than you making avoiding them difficult especially if they have the agility or speed attribute. However, your long limbs also make you increasingly clumsy, your more likely to trip or fall if not agile.

If your heavy you are naturally going to be stronger and more durable than lighter creatures or characters. If you have the strength attribute you are a forced to be reckoned with. If you have the agility attribute you can use body weight shifting movements to emit great amounts of force also then again you are already going to be hard enough to knock down because of your weight. Keep in mind that lighter creatures and characters will naturally be faster and more agile because of all that weight you have to heave about.

Character Profile
Name: -

Gender: - (Choose Male or Female)

Height: - (Choose Short, Average, or Tall.)
Weight: - (Choose Light, Average, or Heavy.)

Physical Attributes:- (Choose two attributes below.)

- Perception: Your senses are keener than average, you can hear, see, taste and smell better than most. The benefit of this is It doesn't take you long to become in tune with your environment and you are generally the one to notice things first, making it difficult to surprise you. You have better accuracy and timing than most individuals, but are more susceptible to sensory targeted elements, like loud noises, potent smells, or dizzying illusions.

- Resilence: Your in excellent health and have a lot of energy. You recover quickly when injured or suffering from illness and have more stamina than most, allowing you to outlast many when it comes to performing physical activity. Your excellent health in turn grants you a healthy mind, making you less prone to be influenced by mind altering substances or magic. This primarily comes from having a healthy diet as a child and having powerful lungs to suck in enough oxygen to feed to your muscles when they are starved, meaning you can also hold your breath underwater for long periods of time.

- Agility: You have great control of your body. Your flexible, have great balance, and can take advantage of complex movements to make yourself cover more ground, hit harder, move lighter or avoid hazardous situations. However each agile act you perform requires a lot of stamina, meaning you could become fatigued quickly if not careful.

- Speed: Your quicker than average, meaning you can move your limbs from point "A" to point "B" swiftly. This can help in many ways when utilized appropriately. Covering more ground when running, grabbing objects quicker than others. However, moving quickly takes concentration and dulls your senses if your not careful you could be moving to fast to prevent hazardous injury or well timed retaliations.

- Mentaility: Do to intellect gained from studies or just natural interest your mind is more developed than most allowing you to understand and utilize magic at your disposal. You are able to focus and afterwards cast enchantments, spells, or hex's. At your current level of mentality you can only focus for up to three turns. Focusing determines how powerful your spells are and how long your enchantments and hex's last (if you focus for three turns, it lasts for three turns). If you have the speed attribute you can think twice as fast, allowing you to instantly cast minor spells without focusing limiting you to only having to focus for two turns instead of three.

OOC Notes

# Takaria, 2010-12-02 13:55:13, as written by Playswright
A hawk soars the vivid skys its flame tinted wings possessing a magical hue that grows brighter and brighter, in time the hawk set off like a shooting star amongst the clouds, a streak of fire gracing its former path. Upon its back was a cylindrical casing with the seal of adventurers engraved upon it's surface. The hawk appeared to headed in the direction of Guild of Adventure but leaving area's surrounding the village of Gheldon. A closer look would reveal the individuals in which the hawk had recently departed, leaving them with branded letter instructing them of their next task at hand. The letter reads...

_______________________________________

Dear Adventurer,

While we understand you are rather new to the world of adventuring we have an important task in which requires your assistance. The village of Gheldon has been besieged by savage insects. We would have you know that these are no normal insects as they are much larger than one would anticipate. Do take caution in dealing with the situation as certain insects are known for there uncanny ability to release or inject toxins into their victims.

One of the villagers will be waiting for you at the entrance of the village holding a parchment with our seal marked upon it. He will be accompanied by a veteran adventurer who for the time being is insuring his safety before the moves on to his next assignment. He will not be helping you in this endeavor and is limited on how long he wait until your arrival.

Please do make haste..

Sincerely,

The Guild of Adventure!

(ooc: Your character has just received the letter (via magic hawk) from the Guild of Adventure. Read the letter and make your way to the entrance of the village. All characters are not far from the entrance of Gheldon, where and what your character is doing outside of Gheldon is up to you.)

Re: [OOC] Adventure Odyssey I - Infestation

By utilizing character development, Moderated Storyline with summary, and regular advertising to its fullest potential.

Character Development
Throughout the roleplay characters will have many opportunities to develop, learn new abilities, spells, gain new equipment and etc. Characters attributes and abilities will also play a major role in effecting the direction of the storyline, which has been loosely mapped out prior to the creation of the roleplay. When other roleplayers look over existing characters and read the summary they will see the impact particular players have had on the thread and in turn want to impact it as well. This factor reveals the thread truly does evolve around the characters and others may see ways they in-turn may effect the thread.

Moderated Storyline with summary
The storyline is heavily moderated, meaning players do not have to consistently worry about coming up with what to do next. A scenario is always presented for characters to react to. When roleplayers witness a moderated situation in which the environment responds to them rather than them coming up with how it responds, it accelerates the element of variety which is key to a progressive roleplay. In addition as the adventure unfolds there will be a summarized entry of the progression of the thread on the introduction of the homepage. Meaning those interested in joining will not have to read through numerous posts to determine what is going on and can pick a opportune time when they feel would be ideal for them to bring in there character.

Advertising
Once the first narrative post is up advertising will commence. Sequentially the summary of whats going on in the thread will be posted in the roleplayers wanted area. In addition with brief summaries of the suggested types of characters that the roleplay could use. For instance, if the roleplay possesses a large number of individuals with similar attributes, abilities and personalities. It will be suggested what types of characters, drastically different from the existing, would make interesting additions.

Very thoughtful question! I appreciate these types of questions as the often bring about elements I may have not included or thought of when creating the roleplay, I save these sort of questions so that they can serve as a foundation for future roleplays.

Re: [OOC] Adventure Odyssey I - Infestation

How do you plan to keep the thread popular enough to find other roleplayers who like the idea?
