Quail Porter

A young storm Dracora raised under unusual conditions with dreams of grandeur as a powerful dragon, dreams that are considerably... bigger than her.

0 · 1,439 views · located in Arma Torrel

a character in “Adventures in a Fantasy World”, as played by MartinVole

Description

Name: Quail Porter

Alias/Nicknames: Whelp (technically true, but she hates it), Lizard ("I'M NOT A LIZARD!"), Gale ("Relevant and rhymes, I like it!")

Age: 10

Hair Color: Purple

Eye Color: Blue

Scale Color: Light blue

Species: Dracora

Physical Specs: By racial heritage she has great physical strength, even at this stage of development, and already mastered the art of flight and control while airborne. To add upon this, she uses Mana Circulation instinctively, especially when pressured or driven, but it is untrained and she doesn't seem to acknowledge it. She is an unexpectedly good swimmer, despite it being outside her element.

Magical Specs: Though still green, she has a strong affinity in Storm/Wind Magic, ranging from enhancing her flight, to summoning a sudden gust of wind. Her full talents, are however, yet to shine, being as she is still early in exploring her Dracora abilities. Even her transformations tend to go awry.

Known/Popularly Used Magic Spells:
Wind Shout: Focusing her magic through her mouth, she lets loose a powerful blast of pure air pressure. This pressure being powerful enough to fling even a large man off his feet.
Zephyr: By focusing her magic around her, she is able to fly at higher speeds than normal through the air, with great control, yet at the same time minimalizing turbulence.
Storm Breath: An early development magical discharge, by focusing energy through her throat she is able to manifest it as electrical energy... unfortunately, it seems to be connected to the act of... sneezing.

History: Like her brother, Quail was not born to the Porters, but adopted, at the time, as an egg. They, a couple of adventurers who had seen and done as much as they could in the world and decided to settle down in a quiet and peaceful village. They were not quite sure at the time what kind of Dracora egg they had, but upon hatching, they named the infant dragon Quail for the spurt of hair that hung down over her face, a feature that would remain as she grew older. She grew not knowing much about Dracora, other than through stories, and in passing, her views skewed by the grandeurs of stories.

Being raised under the same conditions as any other child, she did not attain quite as much the fears of other races that would normally develop, and as such, but instead has attained a curiosity of the world. With her brother, she never quite learned differences outside of the obvious physical, and as such, to her, she is the same blood.

At an early age she started developing innate magical talents, like that of flight and to focus her elements over wind to produce gales of wind, over time enhancing it as her magic matured. Amusingly, before this point, she thought she was a fire dragon, somewhat disappointed at first before accepting wind was pretty neat too.

Growing stronger, maturing her innate skills, as well as refining her element, she grew up with magic as a part of her nature, but with the overflow, control became another issue, especially when lightning magic developed while sneezing! It grew into a desire to become a great dragon one day, one that will also be written of in stories, preferably in a more positive light.

Her growing desire to become a great dragon, however, is secondary to family, she will not intentionally act in a way that will cause distress for her brother or parents, outside of squabbles typical of any child. She has an unbroken loyalty, that surpasses her free spirit, but only for them. As such, even if a bit spoiled, she lived a peaceful life with her brother Corro.

And then, after Quail turned ten, everything would change...

Personality: Quail is rather energetic and spirited, as well as known to be sassy, at times too much to handle. Her mouth can get ahead of her brain, being boastful and proud! This is as to be expected of one who has come to realize she's of a rather powerful race. She is not dumb, however, just tends to rush ahead of herself. Mischief comes to her rather easily, and can play a bit rough, but despite her behavior has a warmth to her that is shown more prominently to her brother and parents.

She tends to pretend to be bigger than she is, hating to be referred to as "small" or "little" despite being only around 4 feet in height, and can get a bit of a temper when taunted over her diminutive stature. She obviously doesn't like being little, desiring greatly to rival even the great dragons of legend. Even with her disappointment in size, she tends to pride in her dragon form, sometimes posing in front of a mirror searching for the most dramatic effect.

She also has a rather hefty appetite, ranging from meat to fruits, she's none too picky as long as she can get a fill and tastes good. It actually made her rather easy to please!

Like Corro, she will push herself to defend those she cares about.

So begins...

#, as written by Davien
Kodans ears perked up as he looked around, figuring out the whispering was coming from Darius.

"Yes..." He said warily as he was asked his name. As he heard paperwork, he grew a bit anxious as he was
never allowed to learn to read or write. It was one of the many failed ways to keep him docile and
controllable. But as he listened on, it seemed the urgency of the situation would save him from that for
now. He looked back to see Telkaus following them, and his ears instinctually pinned back for a split second
before he diverted his attention elsewhere.

As he looked around for a distraction, Bella caught his eye as she waved at him. He smiled and waved back,
still not entirely sure what exactly was going on and what process of signing up they were on. He heard
Quail, the small dragon child, confirm that they would all take the test. He nodded along with the words,
walking up and standing behind Bella. Kodan stood at attention but was letting his mind wander a bit,
missing the "flesh weaving" comment Bella had made.

As bella dissapeared into her fur coat Kodans attention slowly came back to the current events, becoming
quite alarmed as she turned into the giant ferret monster wrapping around the desk. He had never seen much
magic at all until very recently, and he was not expecting his only friend to turn into a monstrosity like that.
Personally, it terrified him. But he was able to keep his composure, still staring wide eyed and mouth agape
however. A look of utter confusion remained on his face as he slowly raised his hand to wave back at Bella.

Ah...Paperwork?...Such a livley group doing such livley things. What strange concepts and meanings...What unknown things they spoke about...It was quite orderly in her way, normally she would be caught up in a massive brawl at this moment but everything seemed to settle down from a man as he hurried things along to stop things from escalating.

Paperwork? What was that anyways? While everyone was entering the building she stood outside staring. The man asked her to come along...Should she? Hmmmm...What a peculiar situation. She wondered how this world operated, she missed her fellow strange traited humans. She was...so lost really...Maybe she should find someone to adopt her...She no longer had parents right now. How cruel...To be suck without guidance, it was strange...

Huh...She should follow the group. They were doing things, maybe she can learn more. As such she followed behind the group.

And now, the moment they were led into the guild, after only a moment the group that this was relevant for would be quickly ushered into the back area of the adventurers guild. One could consider it a back lot or a back yard, but many knew it simple as the training yard. It was large, it was vast, and there were a large number of cages with growling and dangerous noises that erupted from inside. There was also notably several others nearby, who had also planned on joining the Adventurer's Guild today.

Actually, Darius seemed to be especially assisting Kodan and Karoline on the matter. Indeed, he seemed to have an exceptional tolerance towards all species, but due to the discrimination Animans and Demon Race faced, helped them along more then usual. However, his slip of the tongue earlier...

Well, Corro also took note of that after Quail shouted and glared at him a little.

"Hey hey! I did not mean it in an offensive way! Its just...they were super strong you know! TO the point of being ridiculous! Like, they are truly amazing people for sure, but I was honestly really scared every time I worked with them that if they slipped just a little bit, I would get wiped out of existence!"

Darius gave praise, and some worry, to the parents of Corro and Quail. And then, as for the Guildmaster.

"Oh, in case you were wondering, I noticed it from the stance the boy took just a moment ago. It is a very specific stance after all, unique to the sword style created by that man, Eric Porter. I saw it quite a few times when he was taking out several ogres with a single swing".

"Well, I suppose it should be expected that there will be those types after all. Since there are no fat adventurers really".

Corro looked at Darius' words with confusion, his mind brought off track by curiosity.

"No fat adventurers?"

"Yes. All adventurers, at the very least when they start out, have to pass four tests to register. The tests you are about to do now. The first test is a running test. You have to be in shape to pass it, so its impossible for someone who has not taken care of themselves to be it. And of course, when people become an adventurers they have reasons like money or adventurers. There are quite a number of adventurers who do it for the money and to make a living doing dangerous work like hunting Demon Beasts, but there are also a number of adventurers who do it for fun or other reasons. Your parents are the latter, the pinnacle of Adventurers. Stories are told about them to children who want to aspire for greatness even!"

And then, with all the conversation before they could reply to much else (although Liro actually just had nothing to add at the moment to what Bella said to Kastor), and decided to oversee everything with them.

However, he did notice that Bella seemed to be playing around of sorts. Although no one else could really understand it, he had the experience to.

"By the way, Bella is it? You know, most of the people here right now are either Receptionists immune to such antics, drunk adventurers drinking at the bar we have over there inside the Adventurers Guild, or those who are on their off days and feel like relaxing. And since Adventurers tend to be the wary sort, its extremely unlikely anyone will understand what you are trying to do. Especially those who have taste for your type. What you need to find is someone who will really appreciate your personality though, yes yes, someone like that will suit you best".

"What are you doing you idiot who has failed at love several times, you two get over here so we can begin?"

With that, Darius scolded Bella and Liro, and asked them both to just follow the others into the training yard in the back.

"Now, the first test will be to run from this side to the other side...in under twenty seconds!"

If one were to look, the field was quite large. Although not impossible to run that far in under twenty seconds, it meant people would have to accelerate quickly and give it there all. Of course, this also had another meaning. This was to confirm they had the ability to run away from danger too tough for them, the physical ability to fight and take on, or at least dodge, a Demon Beast, and the like.

However, on that note, there was one vital thing he did not say. He never said that the applicants were not allowed to use magic or special abilities.

"And go!"

ANd so Corro, who enhanced his body with mana circulation and Physical Boost magic, ran across the field. But, he was not running on two legs, but he had moved to all fours and ran as such. This caused his speed to increase massively and made him able to cover more ground.

And meanwhile, he had Darius go back over to the Dwarf while looking up records on what he suspected this Red Beast might be...to gather information, so they could deal with it properly.

Ignored.

Fucking. Ignored.

Telekhus was being quite compliant and, well, certainly not too rude. While he was being quite, well, not too nice, he wasn’t being a gigantic douchebag. He made those inflammatory remarks about the two kids, and the wolfman, but those were observations. If he said the fucking truth, what was so bad about it? If they couldn’t handle a random jerkoff, then they wouldn’t be able to take what so many actual prejudiced folk would say. Most were civilians as well, and what fucking hero would threaten civilians?

Telekhus sighed, looking at the pup run fast as fuck across the field. His eyes focused on the Guildmaster, and finally realized what he was doing. “Why the hell am I here?” he whispered to himself.

Telekhus Kastor, the Hero. What a joke.

Telekhus was a bad, bad man. He had captured runaway slaves, he had hurt innocent people. He killed and murdered and was otherwise a terrible person.

What were heroes? They had glory, they had honor. They were naive. They didn’t understand how the world worked. Heroes died against beasts and monsters normal folk couldn’t handle. They died, then they let the bad people, the people who aren’t afraid to take what they want however they please, win. It was simple as that.

The sellswords gaze lingered on the pup and the lizard (The Wolf and the Dragon, Telekhus was sure, would make a name for themselves, but just not now, or anytime soon), and thought. They were good kids. Reminded him of the princess. While he couldn’t save her, or help her, or get rid of that damn tumour inside of her, he could at least warn them. Or, warn the woman who was going to look after them.

The Last Kastor slowly ambled towards Beau, standing at her side. The pup finished the course, obviously. Kid was fast. “Hey, Lady Beau,” Telekhus said, his tone serious, devoid of any mockery or joke, “you better tell those kids about the Underworld. You can get more information from the Guildmaster, or even Wolfie. He would know, afterall. He’s obviously been a witness to some of it.”

Telekhus fell silent for a second. “Anyway, those kids are going to be in for a damned rude awakening if they come across anything they aren’t ready for. Again, Wolfie, or the Guildmaster for information. Unless y’all want to pay me for the information, then I could tell a grand tale, but completely true, of course. Up to you, really. I’ll be in town for a couple more days, either way, staying at the Corsair Inn. Bard will tell you if I’m in or not.”

With his good deed done for the day, Telekhus started a slow walk towards the exit of the Guild. He needed to think about all his contacts in Arma Torrel. The sellsword would probably have to go to Vlandervaus Bar, and get into the back room to get a job. Would it be murder, or slaving? Oh, maybe a nice kidnapping. Those were always easy.

People bound in a dark world, thrive in it, revel in it, profit from it. Predators. That is what they are, in lack of any better terms. No, worse than predators, far too respectable a name for the kind... parasites... or perhaps a disease is more appropriate... in the depths a spark rekindled and an old desire ignites. What worth is a life that values not? It is better to be erased.

Bellatroix stood silent as Telekhus left them, though a smile still on her maw, there was a flicker, a glimmer of something else in her mind, her pupils fluttering for a moment. He spoke of the underbelly of society, a matter she is quite acquainted with, in fact. It was clear this man was a type that held value in very little other than coin. He was right, though, children should be aware of dangers... but if they were erased...

Bellatroix snapped from her daze as Liro spoke to her. "Oh my, whatever do you mean? Taste for my type? I'm simply playing! A good laugh is all, harmless, it is good for the soul! Being grim would do me no favors anyways," she says, with a giggle, slapping her paws on her cheeks with a wide grin. "Though, I suppose in a way I could be everyone's type, given my talents and knowledge... but... if I were to be serious, I think, I would... hm... not sure, I've never been quite in that situation before... in fact, I've spent more time caring for orphans than really... hm..."

She then heard someone call Liro an idiot, causing her eyes to twitch. "Idiot... failure..? Heh, now-now, rude," She then silently shrugged and followed to the track, she watched as Corro sped through, on all fours. Followed after by the flighty Quail, also impressive in her intense speed, augmented by her wind magic.

After a moment, she shifted again, shrouded by her clothes, her body taking on a more catlike form, still gray with stripes and barbs, and protruding sharp teeth along her maw. Fierce, akin to a large mountain lion, but certainly not an ugly thing. She positioned herself on the starting point, and, after a moment, she crouched down, shaking her rear, readying for the pounce as cats do, her muscles tightening, augmented by her magic. The weird part, however, was her tail, striped as it were, pressing against the floor, the ground creaking slightly from the push of pressure, before, like a spring, releasing energy in a snap and force, as she sprinted across the track, a blur at first with the initial momentum, before her front legs hit the track, shaking the floor some with each impact. It was clear this high momentum, along with her mass would make stopping difficult, for a normal being, at least, but as she reached the end, swinging her tail around, the barbs snapped out like a switchblade, snagging onto the flooring, and with an acrobatic stunt flipped herself around and onto her feet with a loud resounding thud and a forceful rush of air, bringing herself to an abrupt halt.

Without even bragging about her finesse, she simply waited to see the results of the others, tail swaying, ears twitching, a maintained regal posture, with a softness of good cheer... even though a grin like that on such a cat-like beast looks rather... alarming.

A test? Oh dear she was a little distracted with all the sights around her. The many, many conversations happening at once. Everything was of course new for her after all, she was not from this world originally...And why was she under such discrimination as a 'demon' anyways? It was quite rude to demons in general really. To accuse her, a simple human with abnormal features as a non-human...It was quite rude in her opinion. Although...Many of her kind call themselves demons...But of course it was simply simple. Some people could call themselves the slayer of millions yet only have killed small little roaches or the very tiny germs.

Indeed, it was just a fancy name to make yourself more pleasant or even awe inspiring. But Karolin was just Karolin. A female human that likes to dress in this suit. Oh...What was she doing now?...Something about a race? Right, 20 seconds to run from the start to the other side. She wondered why she needed to participate...She could have strolled across it but she could not make it to the other side if she walked...What a problem. Well she could run, the man said to run. Well she would try...

As The race began, the boy zoomed off far faster than she could possibly run, and then there was both the strange dragon and strange woman...Oh wait, she transformed into some sort of felenid creature. Oh dear...They were all running far faster than her...Nothing she could do, she was no highly quick runner. Quite a hard test, the others must be...Oh! Did she spot a strange bug around?

As the demon ran at a decently steady pace, she suddenly stopped and look at her arm. Oh, there was a strange little bug on it. Hello strange little bug. She suddenly sat down and began to examine the bug almost forgetting about the race, even if she was not even close to a quarter of the way through with everyone else reaching the finish line with very little trouble. "Hello strange little thing who got on my arm. How did you get on my arm? You must be quick like the others." She began to talk to the small bug on her arm before it suddenly flew off into the air. Oh...What a disappointment...It flew away...That was disheartening, such a strange creature flew away from her.

Tea...Indeed, there was still no place to make some tea. She really could go for some tea right about now, that calming drink in hand that can soothe her thirst...Oh, there was a race right? Oh dear, she slowly sat up and began to run forward...Even though the time had either run out while she was busy being distracted by the bug and her thoughts or she had no time to run all the way to the end.

Oh dear...She hoped she could make it in time. It cant have been too long to talk to that strange creature on her arm...Was that another creature flying about? No...Nevermind, it was just the dust.

Morigan sighed as she looked at the field in front of her. She was not a runner... Sure she could dodge but running a field in 20 seconds? No not in Morigan's skill set....

Morigan watched the others and saw for the most part they where using powers of some kind. that gave Morigan an idea... she pulled out one of her master's old tomes and paged though it till she found the page labeled Death Gate..

Morigan read the page...

Death Gate

By taking the life of one of your minions or the life of an enemy you can use their lifeforce to open a portal to anywhere within a mile by uttering the words Synis Mortis Portilis as you stab them in the heart.

If done correctly your dark magic should drain into the victim causing them to explode into a shadowy portal. This done simply picture the place you wish to travel as you step into the gate.

Note: you can bring others with you but it is not recommended as their thoughts may hinder the portal from opening in the right place.

Morigan drew her dagger and stabbed one of her undead Guards as she shouted "Synis Mortis Portilis!"

The undead groaned in pain as he burst into a portal. Morigan stepped into the portal and both her and the portal vanished...

Two seconds later the portal reappeared on the other side of the the field and Morigan stepped out unharmed.

"Well that was a trip..." Morigan stated as her remaing two guards came over to join her the undead knowing their place and not saying a word about what just happened.
