A female dark elf who dances as part of the traveling troupe "Lovely Nightfall".
Viconia, a female dark elf appearing about 24, appears dangerous in her rather vicious beauty. A dancer, she possesses a curvy and muscular body, with rather large... assets. She is of average height for her species at 5' 7", about half of which is in her legs. Of course, her skin is ebony in color. As for her facial features, Viconia has rather full lips and hawklike white eyebrows, which frame tumultuous turquoise eyes. Her hair is white and silky smooth.
For clothing, this talented dancer is forced to wear extravagant attire. For her costume, she dresses in a gold leather outfit, which covers everything between her clavicle and her knees. Rather provocative for the time, but she doesn't mind. After all, no one knows her name. When not performing, she covers herself with a gold-colored silken robe, often hooding herself. No one ever sees either of her two weapons beneath this.
Viconia, a rather serious girl, is down-to-earth and respectful. She tries to put out the tough-girl attitude, but pretty much everyone can see that she is pretty much a damsel in distress, since she's almost completely helpless in a fight or verbal conflict. She doesn't react well if someone mocks her or tries to tease her, unless she knows the person fairly well. She also hates competitions and conflict.
She can be rather greedy at times. Living in the troupe has taught her quite a bit about the lower classes of life, and she knows that there are... many... ways to earn cash if she's truly desperate. However, she is hardworking and would much rather find an honest line of work than use her skills in that way. That said, she finds it difficult to be deceptive and can barely hide her true emotions.
She's terrified of many things, including the end of the world, dying, her family dying, becoming a slave, and being raped.
Viconia doesn't have much beyond the clothes on her back. She carries a short hunting knife in her boot and a longer dagger in a leg sheath beneath her outer robe. She removes this weapon for dancing.
Lovely Nightfall. A small carnival troupe, composed of dark elves, with their ebony skin. However, it was created to be more than that. It was created to be an escape.
The group was created by Hanna Gras and Yurn Shiri, two dark elves from Bastion. While the two loved their place of origin, tensions were growing high among their families, and they were in love. Yurn, who was a muscular male, wed Hanna in secret. She was a seer. And between the two of them, they managed to find other young dark elves, willing to flee the torment of everyday life. They managed to pull together some acrobats, some dancers, some musicians, and before they knew it, they had a troupe of 17 elves. They left in the dead of night, leaving notes of affection for their families.
Viconia Shiri, the child of Hanna and Yurn, was born on the road in the dead of winter. Her parents couldn't give her much besides the clothes on her back, since the troupe was not a successful one. They were plagued by incidents with raiders and others who hated the dark elves with vengeance. Yurn fell victim to such hatred before Viconia was three; during a raid, he disappeared, and upon investigation, the rest of the troupe found his clothing. He was presumed dead.
Even though Hanna was in mourning, she continued to love her child, the only reminder of her true love. She taught her the little that she knew about the world and the races that lived in it. And, more, Viconia learned about the gods. According to Hanna, each of the stars in the sky was a different person who had died, and the moon was the god who protected the dead. It wasn't terribly hurtful to die, since it meant that you would see all of your loved ones, and you would be safe.
Still, Hanna knew little about the politics of the people who lived in the lands. So Viconia learned nothing of history.
By the time Viconia was eighteen, which meant she had the developmental level of a human five-year-old, Hanna learned that she was a seer also. This was a bit of a surprise, since the ability was not passed down genetically. She received her visions in the form of dreams, and vivid ones. Never good dreams. Always bad. And they were rare, only occurring when something major was about to happen.
The first dream she had, when Hanna determined her ability, was of the death of a member. The troupe was booed off the stage in their next city, and one of the acrobats was killed in the chaos.
The second dream, when Viconia was about to turn 36, or thirteen in human estimates, foresaw the end of the world. Or, at least, what she presumed was the end. She woke up shaking, and her mother had great difficulty convincing the young dark elf that it meant nothing, since she didn't believe it herself.
As Viconia grew and traveled more, turning roughly 57 (fifteen human age), she was induced fully into the troupe as a dancer. Her dreams, which came more frequently, became less horrible. Instead of predicting the death of a friend, she saw someone stubbing their toe, or breaking one of the tires, or being burnt while cooking dinner. While the dreams weren't pleasant, they were tolerable - and completely useless.
Especially since she couldn't stop the dreams from happening.
The final dream took place three days before our story starts. In it, Viconia saw the wagon that the troupe used for transport burning; the canvas cover was slashed. There were no survivors.
