Introduction

Italy: April 1866

The grand country of Italia had seen much prosperity within it's recent years. Science, literature, theater, and numerous other forms of discovery have made their mark on the various cultures that scatter the small patch of land. Well, small would be a little vague, seeing as how Italy is a country. Nonetheless, it's a small country, yet it harbors some of the greatest minds known to mankind. Leonardo Da Vinci, for example. Or Michael Angelo. However, despite these famous names, there have been several infamous names that are rarely heard. They are the whispers that only thieves dare to speak. The names of a handful of men, who have sworn their allegiance to no one. These prowlers stalk the night, hunting down the prey which they seek, taking extra care to draw no attention. They are masters of the sword, legendary thieves, and overall, fierce combatants. They are...

Assassins

In the month of April, around Mid Day, two men are walking through the streets of Venice. The sounds of soft music and bustling merchants fill the air, easing the city into a sense of glorious wonder. However, grave news is about to strike the city, along with the rest of the country of Italy. DeMario Esposito, an Italian nobleman, known throughout the country, has just been declared Pope. Something like this has never been heard of. In fact, it's impossible for a nobleman to be crowned such a holy title. Of course the people know this, but no one dares to question the actions of the Vatican. However, there's always those who shall stand out in the crowd. Those who will shout back when told to keep quiet. In our case, these people are the Order of Assassins. They know Esposito had planned this somehow. What's worse the elders of the Order fear the man may have some doing in the recent passing of the former Pope.

Image

Afraid of what the new holy ruler would do to Italy, the elders have instructed two men of the order to carry out their will. These men are among the top in their society. Each skilled all around, yet each specializes in one specific thing; whether it be assassination, interrogation, swordplay, or a number of other things. These men are asked to journey to Rome, the capital of Italy, and home to the Vatican. There, they are to investigate the suspicious rising of DeMario Esposito to the position of Pope and his ring of followers ranging from military officials to other noblemen. They are also instructed to look into the dissaperances of a pair of sisters, who may somehow be linked to Esposito's rise to power. But, when confronted by these women, the assassins must make a choice. Do they continue on with their mission, disregarding the sisters, or do they give in to their emotions?

Rome is the center of the great country of Italy. Stretching farther then any other city, it sits in the heart of the country. Within the crowds of people, going about their daily business, one man stalks his victim. He cuts through the hoards of persons as if he were invisible, drawing no attention. Inching closer to his prey, a glint of steel flashed from the rays of the sunlight. In a split second, a nobleman turning into a brothel fell to the ground, a pair of throwing knives imbedded into his chest. A small group of people screamed, people ran, and the guards were called almost immediatley. Did anyone see the culprit?! Anyone at all?? There was no response, because the murderer was never caught. But what he did was neccesary. The nobleman lieing dead had took a bribe from the local bandits, and allowed them to ransack a small area in Florence. Twenty-four people were killed, including women and children. Homes were burned, people were robbed, and women raped.

A message was sent to a secret order of killers. They have hidden in the shadows for centuries, never revealing themselves. The townsfolk praised them, criminals envied them, crooked noblemen feared them. The Assassins had left their mark on Italy, but were far from done. As long as the selfish and greedy remained in power, the Assassins would continue to work their ways. This particular assassin had traveled from Florence, following the nobleman who allowed such bloodshed. The man had eluded the killer for several weeks, before finally lowering his guard for a brief moment. But a moment was all Alexander needed. With a quick flick of his wrists, his knives had flown through the air and connected with his target. It was a clean job, and the pay would be worth it. Before the guards had arrived, the assassin had climbed to the roof of the brothel and jumped from building to building, easily avoiding any possible threats. He climbed down the back of a series of homes, now a good half a mile away from the commotion.

He looked to be an ordinary man, nothing more. Just a merchant of some kind. But that was the point. Alexander ditched the disguise, slipping back into his normal attire. A pair of loose fitting black pants with a fitted shirt. Underneath was a chainmail shirt that shielded him from any blade, for a few seconds at least. The scar that had remained on his arm for so long was wrapped in a red cloth, hiding it from the rest of the world. A second red cloth, his scarf, was fastened around his neck. Alexander fastened his belt, making sure he had plenty of knives. A short sword rested on his back in a custom sheath. Pulling the scarf over his lower face, the assassin turned into the street and walked among the people as if he were one of them. He had completed his first task, and now was to meet with another assassin. Together, they would start a second task, one much more difficult then any he'd previously done. But the challenge would be entertaining for him, and Alexander looked forward to it.

Valentine looked around, clad in full armour. He walked through the alleyways, avoiding other people to reduce attention paid to him. Not that anyone would be willing to mess with him anyway; his demonic-looking armour had become associated with inhuman massacre over the years. Those days were past him, but his reputation was not. His sword was gripped casually in one hand; in the other, were several long chains, one end of which curled around his chest, the other of which clinked softly along the ground.

He searched around, and saw a man wearing light assassin's clothing, with several close-quarters weapons on him.

"I assume that you are Alexander Romero?" He asked in perfect Italian.

Alexander darted through the crowds, taking a few spare florins here and there. Nothing that will be missed, of course. He only took what he would need. Rounding a corner into an alleyway, he soon came across a man clad in demonic looking armor. I assume that you are Alexander Romero? He was silent for a moment, studying the being before him. "Depends.. Who's asking?" A hand moved to his side, gripping his belt as if he were resting his arm. But, his fingers curled around one of the many knives that lined his belt. If this person was another bounty hunter or some hired help from his recent kill, then Alexander would have to put him down. But the heavy armor and sword would make things difficult. Then again, he could be the second assassin the Order sent. But why would an assassin dress like that? He can be seen as clear as day. There's nothing relitive to stealth in his attire. But, maybe he's more hands on. It certainly looked that way.

"My name is Sir Valentine Phantomhive, son of Sir Sebastian Phantomhive of Her Majesty's Royal Guard." Valentine stated, while calmly observing Alexander. The man was lightly armoured, although he would most likely have some chainmail underneath; Valentine figured that it would be easy enough to cut through with his sword if he had room to build up a full-strength strike. If it came to a fight, this would be difficult, if Alexander's reputation was anything to go by. "If you are indeed Alexander Romero, then I have been assigned by the Order to come and team up with you in our mission." He tightened his grip on his sword, and smirked beneath his helmet. "If you are not... then you're as good as dead."

"I am indeed Alexander Romero, the last of the name. My parents are dead, as are my relatives. I hunt those who wrongly attained power or misuse the privilege.." Alexander loosened his grip on the belt. He'd heard of the Phantomhive name. They were very loyal individuals, or so he'd heard. They also had a reputation for cutting down large numbers quickly. The Phantomhive would be a much needed asset for the mission. "You can relax my friend. We're on the same side." He noted to the man's tightened grip over his blade's handle. "Now that we've both been properly introduced. I'll get down to the main point.." Glancing around, Alexander paused for a while. There were a few guards stationed here and there, but they were too close. "I think we should continue this conversation in private. I don't trust the soldiers around here.." He spoke in a hushed tone, motioning for his new companion to follow him as he walked down the alleyways to a nearby brothel.

The day was a warm one, and very nice at that. Therefore, Alessandra decided to dress in her favorite attire. Her white, slightly heeled boots clicked along the pavement as she walked. She caught several stares directed at her, most likely due to the amount of skin she was exposing. She was offten told that a young woman, should not bear her body to so much exposure, but Alessandra usually blew off the advice. She did what she felt comfortable doing, no matter what anyone said. Alessandra let out a quiet sigh as she walked along the street, she'd been in Rome for a little over a day, and was still questioning why she'd even bothered to come. Cause they said it was for your father, you goof. She thought to herself, shaking her head just a bit.

At the thought of her father, a small saddened smile slid across her lips. She missed her parents dearly. Even if it had been 8 years, the pain never seemed to ease. Sighing once more, the young woman quickly shook her head attempting to rid herself of her thoughts. Her long braid flopped around behind her, before landing over her shoulder. When Alessandra went to move her hair, back into it's propper place she caught sight of a rather tall man, seeming to be clad in armor of some kind. Alessandra blinked, tilting her head a bit. Armor?? That's a little odd..Hmm. She thought to herself, seeing a second man just infront of the armor clad one. Huh..Thats curious.. Shrugging her shoulders a bit, Alessandra brushed it aside, while continuing her walk.

(Wait, they're going into a brothel? I lol'd.)

Valentine nodded, following Alexander. "I hope that you're not considering acquiring their services in there. We're here to do a job, and I have little time for women." He stated evenly, sheathing his sword. He stepped into the brothel, ducking slightly into the doorway to avoid banging his head. As he looked outside, he glimpsed a woman walking along; not that it mattered.

He looked around; nobody was there. Evidently the receptionist was having a break, and all the girls were probably on the job. He leaned against a wall, ignoring the foul atmosphere in there. "Both my parents are dead too, Alexander. So we're alike in that respect." He sighed. "So then, have you been briefed on our target? If I'm correct, it's the new Pope."

He considered adding the man who killed my parents, but didn't. Better to not reveal his personal interest in this operation.

Alexander snorted a quiet laugh. "A brothel is the safest place to discuss...Our lines of business. The guards come in here for one reason. They won't bother two men having a discussion in a place like this.." He grabbed a chair, pulling it over to where Valentine stood, and took a seat. So then, have you been briefed on our target? If I'm correct, it's the new Pope. Alexander nodded slowly, staying quiet for a second. "The Order thinks his sudden jump to the position was staged. And frankly I agree with them. Esposito was never apart of the Vatican, and he's far to young to be Pope. How the church went along with it... There's most likely a few crooked monks there." Feeling a bit more relaxed, Alexander leaned back in the chair. "At the moment, we are to merely confirm these accusations. If we find he did use criminal actions to reach his position, we are to eliminate Esposito, along with anyone on his payroll.." A sudden chill flew down his spine. The assassin suddenly had the feeling they were being watched. His gaze darted around the room before he shrugged the feeling off.

Valentine nodded. "That's a bit of a problem. I share the looks of my family. Let's just say that me and him have a bit of history; thus, he may recognise me if he sees me. If that happens, I can guarantee you that he'll go underground. We'll never find him then, not with his connections." He looked around the room briefly, double-checking the potential exits to the building, an unconscious gesture come from years of fighting, killing, running and hiding. "I was also informed that we are to look for two young women who are in Rome, but the Order has given me no further information on them. Have you been briefed on that?"

Alexander nodded, standing quickly at the sound of shattering glass. One of the few customers was drunk and had knocked over his drink. He relaxed, taking a seat once more. "The things that get me worked up nowadays..." He laughed a little, mostly to himself. "The girls are apparently tied to Esposito somehow..Though I'm not sure in what way. But I'm sure we'll find out in time.. Until then." He stood, this time making his way to the door. "We can start our investigations by scouting out the church. If we can try and route out the criminals, then our job will be much easier then simply bashing our way through the gates." Alexander stepped out of the brothel, glancing around the area. A few guards had taken an interest in the oddly dressed duo. Alexander recognized them as the group that walked by before they went into the brothel. "How good are you with that sword?" He whispered as two of the guards began walking over to them.

Valentine laughed. "Remember who you're talking to." He said. "I am Valentine Phantomhive, son of Britain's greatest knight, trained for many years to kill without question or reason. I have faced dozens of men and survived without a scratch." He drew his sword and smirked. "Try to keep up."

He charged forward, and before the guards could react, impaled one on his blade, before spinning around and throwing the man onto a second guard. He flicked out his chains, and they wrapped around a third guard's neck; he yanked it tight, and the sicking crunh of the man's neck snapping echoed through the alleyway. The remaining guards drew their weapons.

"Alexander!" Valentine called. "Let's see what you can do."

"No need to brag!" Alexander shouted as Valentine darted off. He followed closely behind the larger male, jumping over him and landing in the middle of two guards. With a quick series of hand movements, they fell, deep gashes lining their torsos. The assassin gave little time for the remaining men to react, throwing several knives their way. Two of the four he'd thrown hit their target in the upper chest. The other two struck the guards in the lower abdomen. "Damn. Off by a few inches." What soldiers remained ran off in fear for their lives, and no doubt to get reinforcements. The few people who had been passing by screamed in terror, which did little in helping the two slip away. "Alright, so you can fight. But how fast can you run?" He chuckled, dashing off down the street, weaving in and out of the growing number of on lookers. "If we lose each other, we'll meet in front of the Church in half an hour!" He shouted, jumping and grabbing ahold of the top of a low wall.

Alexander pulled himself over, and landed quietly into someone's personal garden. Luckily, no one was there, so he easily jumped the second wall. He'd now landed in the middle of a nearly deserted section of the street. There were merchants on either side, where most of the road's occupants had diverted too. He stood out as a second group of guards pushed their ways through the shoppers. Alexander drew his sword as the first of the four men advanced on him, dodging the sweep of a sword and running his own into the man's torso. With a hard tug, his blade slid out of the body and it's handle smacked a second guard in the chin. The assassin spun, sending a clean slice down his newest opponent's body. The other two hesitated at first, but decided to charge him together. Alexander could kill them, but he was going to just lose time. Instead, he sheathed his blade and kicked the first into the second. He used the surrounding crowds to lose his pursuers, and once he was sure he'd lost them, made his way to the Church that stood off in the distance.

Valentine ran through the back streets, ignoring the strange looks people gave him. Running along walls wasn't necessary; he just charged straight through the streets. Everyone got out of his way, which he anticipated; standing your ground against an enormous, heavily armoured figure wielding a large sword was typically inadvisable. Guards chased after him, but were easily dispatched with a few strokes of his sword, or a lash of his chains.

It was several minutes of fighting and running until he'd lost or killed all of the guards. He ran towards the church in the distance, and made it there within a few minutes. As he was running through the gates, he noticed Alexander standing right beside him. They stopped on the steps of the church, and Valentine pulled off his helmet, wiping sweat from his brow.

Valentine held out his hand for Alexander to shake. "Impressive, Mr Romero." He said. "You seem to be good at what you do."

Alexander ran up to Valentine just as the two entered the gates of the large church. Impressive, Mr Romero. You seem to be good at what you do. He shook his companion's hand, laughing slightly. "As do you. Now then. While I love bashing skulls, I believe a more silent approach will be needed if we're going to learn anything about Esposito and his men." The assassin slowed to a stop, quickly glancing around before darting off to the side and jumping up to a nearby wall. "If you wish, I could use a distraction or two!" He shouted, pulling himself higher, soon reaching the first outer level of the church. There were few guards at the moment, so taking them out wasn't much of a hassle. Alexander creeped into a suitable position. Peering over one of the statues that dotted the church, he was able to spot the courtyard. Esposito was having a small banquet, no doubt celebrating his sudden jump to power. He didn't want to kill the man this moment, because he would most likely be swarmed by armed men in a matter of seconds. While having a walking giant as your companion has it's up side, Alexander decided against causing a scene. Even if Valentine could fight off the whole of the Pope's guard, there was still the dilemma of them being branded traitors against the church. They'd have no where to run, and would have to leave the country.

So, Alexander thought up a plan. The two would investigate Esposito and try to find some sort of evidence that proved he cut his way to the top. Once it's surfaced, then they'll jump in for the kill. But, in order to do that, the two assassins would have to hunt down his conspirators and allies. The man must not have any sort of help in the matter, or Alexander's plan could back fire. But hunting down each individual would take time. Sadly he couldn't think of a safer way, so until he talked with Valentine again, that would be the plan. Now, the first thing he wanted to see was what would happen if there was a possible threat. Alexander wanted to test Esposito's security, and see how paranoid he really was.

Belladonna reached Alessandra, matching her sister's stride with ease. Her outfit was somewhat more conservative. It was a long, plain, dark green dress with a wide brown belt which had a dagger stuck into it. On her back she had her quiver of arrows strapped, and her bow was in her hand. "Rome is an interesting, place, don' you think?" she asked her sister as she looked around. It was almost impossible not to look, really. She repressed the urge to hit a man who was openly leering at Alessandra, and kept walking.

They were in Rome, and her mind was whirring behind the calm, patient face. What did the pope want with them? What did her father have to do with anything? She remained silent, however, as was her way.

Alessandra let a smile stretch across her lips as her sister began walking alongside her. Titlting her head just a bit she looked to her younger sister, shrugging her shoulders. "It's interesting, yes...But the people here are a little weird. I saw one man dressed in some..really odd looking armor earlier. I think he and his friend, got into something with a few guards. They went running off that way." Alessandra shrugged her shoulders, waving off to her left as she gazed around. The young woman let out a quiet sigh as she glanced around. Though she quickly casted a glare in several men's directions as she heard someone call out. You know, the local brothel is that way!

Alessandra turned to face the man, a scowl of annoyance darkening her features. "Why don't you come over here and say that to my face?" She called out to him, as she tilted her head to the side. Her hands came up resting on her hips, a sign that the girls temper was begining to spark up a bit. The man laughed with one of his friends, before he pushed away from the wall walking towards the girl. By now half the street was begining to stare, but Alessandra could care less. All she really wanted to do was smack the man infront of her. Once he was about 3 feet from her he stopped. I said, the local brothel is that way. Might wanna get back to your job darl-.. Before he could even finish his sentence, Alessandra smacked the man across the face her eyes narrowed. He stared at her shocked for a moment, before Alessandra turned away, walking back to her sisters side. "Sorry about that, now what were you saying Bella?" She questioned as she resumed walking down the street, the man shouting insults at her back. Most of which Alessandra simply ignored.

Valentine nodded. "I'll give you a distraction. Give me a minute..." He said, unslinging his bag off his back. He searched through it until he pulled out a large, five-kilo bag. He walked off towards the wall, and tapped it a few times while pressing his ear against it. Soon, he heard a slight echo as he tapped a certain section. "Gotcha." He muttered. Many old buildings had a weak, hollowed-out point (the fault of lazy peasant builders), and this one was no exception. It was still thicker than most, but he was prepared for that. He pulled out a long piece of string, stuffed one end into the bag, lit the string with a match and ran, slamming on his helmet.

A few seconds later, a deep, almighty crack resounded through the church. Valentine turned around and, through the curling smoke, saw that the section of wall had been demolished, leaving a ten-foot-by-ten-foot hole. Additionally, several of the church's stained-glass windows had shattered from the shockwave.

Valentine grinned. "Knew that gunpowder would come in handy." He said cheerfully to himself, unsheathing his sword. He watched as guards began to run towards him, and his expression hardened. "Whatever you're doing, Alexander, do it quick..."

(Sorry. Couldn't resist. Also, Valentine seems like the type to keep some gunpowder in his bag, no?)

Ares quickly looked up as she heard an explosion. She cursed under her breath, the war hood she was wearing muffling the words just enough. She placed her fork down, standing up and excusing herself. She started fast walking to the site of the explosion, mumbling angrily. "Great. I get back from a battle and is finally able to get a decent bite to eat, but then some guy just has to make trouble. Wonderful day." She kept grumbling, increasing her speed to a run and finally coming upon the hole in the wall. She spotted a man being charged at and sighed. "Figures my legion would be the first to get to him." She put a hand up, making all of the guards come to a stand still and look at her. "Leave him be. He just may prove useful." She kept walking towards the guy, stepping through the hole in the wall. "So, sir, what brings you to the neighborhood? Did you perhaps do this on purpose so that I wouldn't be able to eat my first decent meal in weeks? Or is it that you've come to just cause me displeasure in general?" She chuckled darkly as she saw a few of her legion fidget. She waved a hand. "You may leave." She watched as they all left as quickly as they possibly could. She then turned back to the man. "Listen, I'm trying to be civil right now. Could you tell me why you're here? That's your only option besides leave." She smirked under her cloak, awaiting Valentine's answer.

Valentine laughed, but readied for a fight. This person was obviously insane, stupid, or extroadinarily skilled. Possibly some combination of the three. If it were the third, he could be in trouble.

"It's a bit of a long story." He said, putting on a Scottish accent to disguise the fact that he was a member of the British nobility. He struggled up a lie, and or lack of anything better to do, he decided to say something so insane that no-one would believe him. "I'm trying to kill the Pope, y'see. He took the last seat at a restaurant, and to me, that's inexcusable. So, I'm tryin' to kill him."

He hoped that his rough accent and manner of speaking would prevent his opponent from guessing his background. "And I ain't leavin' 'till he's dead."

Belladonna smiled fondly at her sister. "Ally, you recall I told you about keeping your temper?" she teased lightly, but the smile flew from her face when the man ran up to them, and grabbed her by the hair, pulling her head back viciously. "You should keep your companion on a tighter leash." he snarled in her ear, spittle flying from his lips. She had been reacting aver since he had laid hands upon her. With a smooth, sleek movement, the knife was out of her belt and plunged deep into the man's crotch. She heard a whimper, and then he fell. she turned, then noticed her skirt. "Damnit." she looked at Alessandra. 2I got blood on my dress." she frowned, then smiled, taking her sister's arm and continuing their walk.

Once over there he seen the girl walk away with her sister. He looked at the man on the ground, and smiled. "You got yourself into some trouble. To bad your going to die you Cazzo.." He g grabbed the man by the neck, as he clinched his windpipe tighting his grip. Theo then heard the snap as the man slipped into the cloak of death. Ares sighed and scratched her head through the hood. "Really? I hate having to fight in the church. The pope hates it when the church is even slightly destroyed, and no doubt a battle would only increase the damage you caused." She pulled her daggers from their scabbards. "But if you won't leave otherwise, I guess I have no choice. To think I just came back from a war, too." She slowly walked towards Valentine. "Could I know your name? I'd hate to give you a gravestone without a name, because that's just plain boring. I mean, who wouldn't want to know who's buried under the ground?" She tilted her head, lifting her hood just enough to show a sadistic smile.

"My name is of no consequence to you," said Valentine. "No-one will visit my grave. No-one will remember who I was," he continued, his voice cold. "I'll give you two chances to leave. This is the first." He moved the sword in his right hand into a fighting position. The chains in his off hand clinked on the ground, and his chainmail made a sound like metallic rain. He analysed his opponent; based on her build, she would be fast, but he had the advantage of strength and armour over her. This would be a difficult fight, but he was confident that he could win. He smirked. "You really have no idea who you're dealing with here."

Ares chuckled darkly. "Interesting. The armor adds an amazing effect to intimidation. My cape is kinda used for that, but it doesn't do as much of that as your armor. But to me, armor is just a weigh down." She un-clipped her cape's neck buckle, letting it drop off. She then undid the braids in her hair and sighed. "There we go. It's always a relief to take that off. It too is a weigh down, but I still get most of my speed." She smirked and spun her daggers. "Ready when you are." Her eyes held a glint in them, her hair flowing slightly in the wind that flowed through the hole in the wall. "I still want to know you're name. I'd just love to know my opponent's name."

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

Shizballs. Forgive my french, my computer is having problems too. >.< I can't re-load pages without them shutting back off and it is pissing the hell out of me. DAMN IT. Ok, well anyway, I had the most awesome picture for the bad guy, then lost it because of my evil comp. I need a picture...

Also, if anyone is interested there is a Rp that needs just ONE more male character.

roleplay/lets-talk-nerdy/

Its a real-life one. Be friends with my character :) . Thought I would put that little invite here because there are lots of males, and we have been waiting forever for someone to take the spot, and its late. I have to get to sleep now...

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

My apologies for not posting, everybody, multiple complications arose with my life recently. Should be all resolved now, so...

How can I jump back in?

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

That's not true, I tried to have something done but I had two posts I had to reply too. >< Sorry bout that.

Anyways, Arek hasn't been able to get on cause his harddrive crashed so he has no computer at the moment. Hopefully he'll have something sometime this week, buuut that's why he hasn't posted.

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

I love it how my post was ignored. Theo was fight right in front of the two girls. I guess what ever i type is only going to be thrown to the side.

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

Hey guys, Im probably not going to be able to post until this weekend; my internet is failing me, and for some reason RPGateway keeps showing up as "closed for maintenance." It's a wonder I got on.

Urrgg. The Universe is conspiring against me.

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

Yay, she's accepted. Just so you guys know, she's the cheerful and childish person who can brighten everyone's day, since this RP didn't seem to have one already. :D

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

Should I go make an advertisment thread in 'Roleplayers Wanted'?

It'll hopefully speed up the process somewhat.

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

Haha yeah I know..Damn I just realized that xD.

Re: [OOC] An Assassin's Vow

Cool, let me just get a picture for him and he should be up.
