"Heeey, slow down a little. You don't have my luck."
Name: Horatio Surge
Age: 28
Sex: Male
Height: 6"2
Weight: 210lbs
Eye colour: Auburn
Mark: A thorny vine along the length of the spine, ending in a rose bloom on the back of the neck.
Physical Description: Dang nabbit, looking for character pictures isn't my strong suit, but here we go:
Of a relatively standard height and body shape, Horatio has medium length brown hair framing his face, which is notable for its spectacled brown eyes and plentiful stubble. None of his facial features are particularly harsh or angular, giving him an air of kindness and consideration. He wears a black jacket with a white trim, fashionable but practical, under a white and green scarf he has been known to wrap around his head in adverse conditions. He also wears brown leather gloves. Army style boots are worn over the tails of a pair of practical grey trousers which are topped by a leather belt, holstered knife attached.
Personality: Kind and warm, and seen as an older brother to many of the new "recruits" due to his consolation and understanding of their plight. Although he once felt trapped by his circumstances, his years of service have caused him to accept his situation and alongside his realisation adopt a posiitive attitude towards it. After all, he gets a free bed and meals for doing a job he's not only good at but was made to be good at. Exceptionally cautious and wary, it's mainly his uncanny sense to predict the unpredictable, not to mention outstanding luck, which has seen him survive twelve years in his forced employment. Furthermore, he is constantly nagging his less paitent colleagues to tread lightly and slowly, as he has already seen many friends wounded and even killed alongside him. He is generally seen by his employers as a reliable arm who is a perfect foil for teaching new recruits the ropes, although despite his exceptional survival rate, his superiors believe his positive demeanor and lack of killer instinct will hold him back from being trusted with a senior position.
Special abilities: Horatio has exceptional luck and with it an innate ability to make good decisions based on his cautious instinct, not to mention often managing to get out of a tough situation better off than others. Unfortunately, often his instincts will tell him to be careful too often, meaning that although he gets home safely, he misses out on potentially lucrative oppourtunities, such as ambushes, or bonuses.
Family: An unwanted child, he was left to an orphanage at birth. His movement from orphanage to orphanage taught him that although family is to be cherished, it, as all things are, is temporary. His adopted parents are in a prison, unsurprisingly sponsored by a certain drugs company.
History: Born to a teenage drug addict mother, Horatio was never wanted, and spent a childhood in transit, constantly having to fit in over and over again as he was often the unfortunate boy who was moved to make room for another damned child. However, rather than causing Horatio to become introverted, he grew intergrity and charisma, and no matter where he went he was loved. Finally at the age of twelve, it seemed he had found a home, when a kindly aging couple welcomed him into their life. At long last, his life had constants. Now in a school he knew would not be a temporary measures, friends flocked to him like sheep and he was growing into an exceptional athlete. However, before long his chesnut eyes adopted a reddish glow, and a vine began creeping up his spine. When finally one day, on his sixteenth birthday a rose bloomed on the back of his neck, Horatio was seized, his parents locked away for crimes they didn't commit. Once more, a life of stability had evaded the young charismatic man.
Horatio at first was doubtful that he would have a use in a military force, sceptical that any man could be made into a weapon, but he soon realised that his athletic ability, his magnetic personality and incredible will existed through all he had endured not simply out of sheer luck, but because of a code imprinted inside him. Accepting his new life's truths, Horatio developed into an exceptional marksman, loyal to his comrades, who, as the troop got more experienced, slowly fall by the wayside, through life changing injuries, whether physical or mental, or even death itself. As time passed, Horatio realised that he was the only one of his orginal team to have survived what he had gone through. He realised his caution had been proven right and this made him even more cautious, advising those who would seek his advice to tread carefully, saving lives in the process of tutoring younger recruits. However, what really made Horatio exceptional was his luck, and he knew it. So many near miss ricochets, dud explosives and generally being the right guy in the right place had kept him alive. Now, as he has seen yet another couple of recruits flourish alongside him, he prepares to meet some more newbies, well aware of what he is being used for, but seeing little beyond it.
